Survived the day with my family, although typically they ignored my wishes and got her up to overstimulate her in the afternoon!

3k - Pippa has been sick quite a lot the last couple of weeks, sometimes during a feed and sometimes after, and can be sick several times after. Not sure if it's something to be worried about or not. Am going to ask cranial osteopath tomorrow if it's something that might ease once she has worked on her colic/gut. Will let you know what she says in case you think it would be worth taking Ben for treatment.

She's still feeding every hour at the moment (though thankfully has been asleep for 1 1/4 hrs now so I've had a break!) - hoping it's just a growth spurt and not the shape of things to come, as it's quite exhausting! No wonder she's being sick so much as I'm sure her little tummy can't possibly hold the amount she is taking!

Jas - have good day at DP's mothers.

Jasnem - you're not the only one with an invaded kitchen. Ours currently contains a huge wheely toolbox, a bike, and 2 rolls of loft insulation. Apparently the shed is full.

Well, what a scare last night. After a great day out at Woburn, we got back, and changed ds2's nappy. He was on the changing mat on the floor. Ds1, who weighs 28lb now, fell backwards and landed sitting on him really hard. Bum on the baby's chest, legs on his face. We took him to A+E... luckily he's fine. But I just cant describe the feeling when it happened Shock

Apart from that, its been quite a nice few days!

Thell · 19/03/2006 18:14

ixel ! Shock
glad he is ok, but how horrific!!
for the first few days after sally was born i kept having terrifying visions of dropping her down the stairs, her pram wheeling off into the duck pond, etc - to actually see it happen to your baby must have left you feeling sick Shock

Chloe55 · 19/03/2006 18:18

OMG Ixel, that must have been a bit of a scare, glad everyone is ok though!

Had a nice weekend - I have totally stopped bf now and dh wanted me to relax and have a drink (or two) on Friday night so I had a few glasses of wine and dh offered to get up all through the night. So, had a drink and a lie in - it was bliss! Had a nice relaxing weekend too, just walked the dog and chilled out, feeling quite refreshed - lets see if it lasts Smile

Hope everyone else has had a fairly relaxed weekend (even with the in-laws!)

4blue1pink · 19/03/2006 20:06

Just a quickie as boy screaming and i need to express feed for later!
Glad you are all coping.

Boys thrush does not seem to clear i dont know what to do - he is happy and sleeps night every night! Angel king that he is -
Still nameless only a week and half to go!

Jasnem - we HAVE had a card from mil but no phone call - the card had a scribble out on it and looked like a tesco job to me but hey!!! I try not to care!

Flamesparrow · 19/03/2006 20:13

Shock Ixel

I went to tesco all by myself Grin. Its sad just how happy that made me Blush. Expressed before I left (and I was right, the left side does come out very easily!), and he was fine. He doesn't seem to take as much from a bottle though - he seems to drink til he's full, but he is hungry again after only about 1 1/2 hours... do you think it comes out too quick, so his tummy thinks its full too soon?

Bad ngiht last night - I was exhausted, and went to bed at 10pm... he refused to sleep in his cot. I was too tired to feel safe with him in with us. By 11.30 (possibly 12), I was a crying hysterical mess. Brought him down to DH (still up), sobbed that I was too tired and thrust him at him... then went to the fridge and found wine!!! Came back to the lounge, continued crying (about DH not doing enough with DD mainly), the wine kicked in, and I suddenly stopped crying and went to bed - got 2 whole hours asleep alone before feeding time, and it was what I needed - I woke much more stable!!! No idea how much time he spent in his cot in the end... he was there for a bit, but I dozed off, so have no idea if it was hours or minutes - when I woke again I was feeling able to have him back.

DH took him away after morning bed feed, left me to sleep... brought him back for next feed, then left us in bed for a couple of hours Grin... feel much more human!

Attempted to cook a proper meal instead of frozen pies etc tonight... bad move!!! I ended up having to mop the floor, clean 3 cupboards, put my whole outfit to soak, and then mop up the wine I spilt that I was pouring to make the whole fiasco seem better!!! Grin I had decided to do spag bol... with a jar. All was fine, til I decided to add a bit of wine to it, and poured it into the jar to rinse round it and get out the last of the sauce. Knocked the jar of wine & sauce off the side... all down the unit, all over the floor (luckily it didn't smash!!!) - it covered everything, including my one and only non-pregnancy pair of trousers that fit! By the time I'd cleaned it all, I decided that a small glass of wine might be a good idea - it helped me relax sooo much last night. Slipped with the wine bottle and poured half of it over the side!!!! Methinks this is why I should stick to being a mummy, not a housewife!!!

Frizbe · 19/03/2006 21:02

Oh Flame, what a fiasco Smile have you thought of setting up a hidden camera, they pay money for these things you know Grin
Don't know about your bottle theory, do you have him on the go slow teats?? I do recall a friend of mine, who bottle fed from start mentioning her ds used to need a feed every two hours, but that was formula, not breast milk, which digests quicker, so could just be he is full and then hungry again......

Ixel, what a scare Shock glad everything is ok for you all now tho, phew Smile

Tabs, hoping its a spurt for you.....

Right ladies I'm off to bed, will watch C4 tonight me thinks, am hoping dd2 behaves, as appears to have done all of her feeds today, an hour or so early, am I in for a duff night....tba!

MrsDoolittle · 19/03/2006 21:05

Oh God Ixel, I know the feeling. Dd came rushing in to greet me from nursery the other day, I was feeding Ruairi but I put him aside on the sofa to pick her up for a hug. Then behind me came this bump on the floor!! Shock Shock There was two seconds of silence before an almighty scream and me throwing dd back at dh to pick up my baby! My heart was pumping, I tell you.

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 09:06

I hear that babies bounce anyway Wink

Grrrrr, can't seem to shift ds sleep pattern. He could still go 4/5 hours between feeds in the day but he NEVER goes more than 3 hours in the night (and that's if we are lucky). I have tried waking him up every 3 hours during the day for a feed and trying to bulk him up before bedtime but it doesn't seem to work. I am so jealous when I hear of stories of babies sleeping through. Ds is 5 weeks now and is huge so I was hoping he might at least go 4/5 hours through the night by now. Oh well, guess he will go longer when he is ready.

For those formula fed babies - ds is on SMA Gold at the moment and he has 8 feeds a day ranging from 4oz - 6oz each time. Do you reckon he might be better on the SMA White (for hungrier babies) I don't necessarily think he is excessively hungry but is 8 feeds quite a bit? Maybe he might go longer through the night too if I change him over. I have heard though that putting him on this milk might mean me having to wean him earlier. Could someone tell me the reasons why weaning him earlier is an issue because I got the impression from the woman who told me this that the longer you leave them off solids the better?

Flamesparrow · 20/03/2006 09:28

If he is seeming satisfied with his feeds, then I would leave him as he is Chloe. I can't see any logical reason for needing to wean earlier because of different milk - the only thing I can think is that the woman was going with the theory that if they are hungry and needing the hungrier milk, then they need solids?? With why its best to leave weaning as long as possible - it is to give their insides a chance to finish developing properly... the longer that you wait, the more developed and strong it is, the better. The ages vary so much for each new set of studies... for DD it was 16 weeks, now its 6 months. I go with the same theory as with breastfeeding - get to 16 weeks, then every day is a bonus - plan to give solids "tomorrow". I think its probably easier to put off second/third/fourth weaning because it seems easier not to Wink

Jasnem · 20/03/2006 09:36

Morning all,

Chloe - you aren't the only one with a baby who sleeps longer in the day...Boy is much better in the day, and often goes 4 hours, but at night it's 2, or occasionally 3.
If you do a search on early weaning here you will get millions of threads telling you why not to do it. Basically the baby's gut isn't developed enought to digest food other than milk, the amount they take to start is so small, that all their nutrition is still coming from milk, the milk has much higher calory content that early foods, and there is increased risk of developing allergies.

Ixel - Grin at your kitchen.
I dropped DD2 out of the double vbuggy on an escalator when she was 6 weeks old Shock They really do bounce.
DD1 stood on her chest when she was only a few days, too... DP (who was working in the next street to us at the time) heard me scream!
She's fine.Smile Glad DS is, too.

Flame - do you do these things just to entertain us? Glad you can laugh about it after the event.
I gave up drinking at all when the DDs were small. Every time I had a glass of wine , it got knocked over before I could drink any!

My day out was ok. Spent all my time with sil while mil cooked, as usual (bil and sil and their 2 kids live with her). House was so hot that DS slept almost all the time we were there, despite me removing all his clothes. Surprisingly he wasn't too bad in the night either.

Can anyone explain/ give me a link to pictures how to do rugby hold for feeding? Tried last night, but it involved use of loads of pillows!Must be an easier way. Never had any problems at all with dds so this is all new to me. Will go to clinic and ask hv on Wed if I'm no better.

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 09:43

Thanks for your input girls, will prob leave ds off the hungrier milk until he really needs it then.

Jasnem, the midwife showed me the rugby hold when I was bf, I could never master it but I believe some people swear by it. However, I did mention to the midwife about the amount of pillows used and how inconvenient that would be when bf away from home. She said that the pillows were a necessity so it would only be a hold to use at home - not sure if there is another way to do it. I wonder whether you could use a sling to support baby as appose to pillows? Not sure if it would work or not.

Jasnem · 20/03/2006 10:29

Thanks Chloe, Didn't realise I was supposed to use all those pillows.Grin

Helen38 · 20/03/2006 11:03

rugby hold...... um V shaped pillow helps, sort of tuck baby under your arm so that they wraparound your side above your hip, holding their head in your hand I sort of clamp him in place with my elbow, then you can use your hand to guide his head to latch on. Not sure if that helps, my LO bum sticks out just past my elbow but he is quite long, you do need a cushion to support their body but when you get the hang of it not as many. Not a position I used much past the first few weeks as they get too long Grin

3k · 20/03/2006 11:19

Ixel glad your baby is ok, what a scare!!!

4blue1pink - Ben still has oral thrush too and I cant get rid of it. IT doesnt help when I give him the medicine that he heaves and then brings all his milk back up!!! Got HV coming at 12pm today so going to mention it to her as there must be something else they can give him.

Ben is doing really well at night, put him down at 11.30pm on Sat night and he slept to 6.15am!!! Only thing is it takes me so long to go to sleep now so not getting the benefits of it!! He slept for about 5.5 hours last night so is kind of getting the separating night and day thing. He still feeds every 2 hours during the day though which is tiring and then eats loads in the evenings but if he is bulking up for the night I'm not going to complain!!! Just took him upstairs and put him in his cot so I could get dressed and he is now fast asleep. Have managed to put makeup on today, get dressed and catch up on e-mails!! YAY!!!!

Flame - LOL at your kitchen fiasco the other night Grin hope the dinner tasted ok in the end!!!

Chloe55 · 20/03/2006 13:22

Just had a bath with ds (I normally bath him in his own little bath) and he absolutely loved it. He is such a grumpy looking baby most of the time and he spent the full 10mins laughing, it was lovely - I will be definitely be looking forward to bath time now Smile

Thell · 20/03/2006 15:10

dh is back at work today - and i have got nothing done! sally is having a funny day, feeding little and often and keeps waking up unsettled. i've tried to put her in the hugabub twice, which she normally likes, but she cried quite insistently! AND still waiting for my cot to arrive from mothercare Angry
oops, here she goes again,...

4blue1pink · 20/03/2006 15:13

Hi girls,

3K ...gosh that sounds just like babs...he seems to hate the medication and either spits out or spews it yellow on nice white babygros!

I am really interested what your HV suggests - i feel like going back and getting it swabbed!

MrsDoolittle · 20/03/2006 15:39

Helen - you describe the rugby hold really well Smile

Well ladies..
I have to admit to getting really down last week as after such an easy first baby I was really struggling with this one. He just seemed to cry all the time, he was colicky and windy. I never knew when to feed him or wind him.
Anyway, as I said these spots came up last week coinciding with the hv visit - she didn't know what they were either. They seemd to get worse so I arranged a GP visit.
Now I had been advised by a friendly GP I know that it could be neonatal thrush. It could be in his gut and it was now presenting all over on his body. This theory also explained the stabbing pains I had been experiencing when I was breast feeding.
I had also arranged a prescription for ds and I prior to our GP visit. By the time I saw the GP ds had had 3 doses of Nystan.
Anyway the GP had poo-pooed the thrush theory, they were baby spots and said to stop the Nystan.
Well I didn't! Basically because I didn't believe it was as harmless as baby spots, it was too angry looking and also by the evening it appeared that the heat had gone out of the rash apparently due to medication.
Now I have a different baby! His bad colciky wind seems to have stopped, he's so much happier - he's even started smiling. He stopped crying all the time, only for feeding. In fact he just seems to have settled. What's more that foul smelling wind has stopped (respiration of the yeast infection).
Now I find I am less confused about how to handle him we are all getting on better.

Having said all that, he's feeding like a mad thing now. I'm exhausted from all the feeding. I'm so tired I fall asleep with him latched on and two hours later I wake up with him still latched on!! Unsurprisingly I'm leaking all over the place in the morning and my breasts feel HUGE!! But atleast he can deal with it now Smile Smile

Jasnem · 20/03/2006 20:28

Evening - Thanks for all the help. I've been trying rugby holding, but it's not really comfortable, and doesn't seen to cause me any less pain, so may give up. Also tink Boy is already getting too long. He's getting too long for some of his 0-3 month sleepsuits already.

Am trying to buy a new buggy this evening, but started a thread asking for advice, and have now got more choices instead of less!

Argh sorry to just fly by, but thought I'd quickly check on you all and now dd2 is screaming again for more food, looks like evening is not a good mn time for me! gotta fly, but glad your all basically ok!

Jasnem · 20/03/2006 21:50

GrinGrinGrin
I've ordered a new buggy.

Bit of an impulse buy - it's not the one I had decided on months ago, but I'm quite excited that it'll be as good. Also loads cheaper, as the maclaren one I originally wanted isn't on offer any where.

GrinGrinGrin I love shopping

4blue1pink, my HV said the doc could prescribe an alternative medicine to the one he is on for his thrush so going to see him tomorrow to get something different. Perhaps you should try and get something different too. I will let you know what he gives me, at the moment he is on Nystan - is that what your bub is on?
