Nah, my method sucks Chloe. :( After 6 weeks of only having half sleep because of a little man in our bed or being attached to a nipple... I lost it last night Blush. I realised I wasn't safe in the bed with him either for sleeping too soundly, or if I lost my temper with crying. Fed him, cried hysterically, left him with DH and ran downstairs (this was about 1am)... curled up on the sofa in tears, and woke at 5.45am to hear crying from upstairs (which is pretty much impossible normally, I think my nipples heard it first and the tingling woke me) - went back up to find DH sound asleep with a hungry baby crying in his arms Shock. I guess I don't have to feel guilty for depriving DH of sleep on a work night!! He was sleeping in such a position that squishing DS would have been pretty much impossible, so I'm impressed with that - just worried how long he'd been crying for!!! Slightly miffed though.. he never sleeps that long if I'm up there!!!

I've forgotten everything else I wanted to say now Blush. I'll be back later.

ixel · 07/04/2006 09:22

Jas... you dont count re exercise as you're so lithe anyway!

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 09:24

Grin "lithe" is a much better way of saying it - I was going with "frustratingly thin" Wink

Jasnem · 07/04/2006 09:35

I will admit to being naturally slim, but that's not the same as healthy. Sorry.

Flame - sorry you had such a rubbish night.

I've decided baby in bed with us isn't helping, too. He's been in with us pretty constantly from first night feed, but I don't sleep soundly when he's there. He does though, which is why I've done it...when I move him out, he wakes in an hour at the most (usually more like ten mins).I've discovered the last two nights that if I lie him on his side he does sleep for longer. He has been on his side in our bed, as that's how he lies to feed, and we just drop off. Am I taking a big risk doing this?

Wouldn't go as far as to say I've got a routine, but now Boy is settling quicker in the night, I'm coping better. No school run is helping too. I've arranged a day out in Legoland with all 3 next week. My mate and her husband will be there too (only 1 child) so it should be ok.

Sorry, can't help with periods. Bf each time. I know the first few can be irregular/ odd, but would def mention it to doc next week.

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 10:03

lol - I've never been very healthy Blush

DS tends to sleep on his side during the day, and if I can convince him to lay on the right side in the night too (he can only be on his side where his arm is out, or he just rolls). I have a monitor with one of those alarm mat things, so I feel slightly more confident about doing it - I know they aren't a preventative, but I feel I'd be alerted to problems more quickly.

I don't know about periods either - My brain is all fried and I can't remember what happened with B.

Chloe55 · 07/04/2006 11:03

Can I ask - does everyone give their ff babies water too? It seems most of you are and I am not, wondered if I should be doing?

JuA · 07/04/2006 11:20

Feeling very frustrated with feeding my 2 - they are all over the place especially at night. I am trying to keep them to feeding at the same time but they get out of synch all the time - and I don't know why. Also am struggling with how much to give them - if I give them more at bedtime will they sleep longer?? Maybe I need to speak to my health visiter. Breast feeding dd1 was so much easier cos I could just feed her when she wanted and it didn't matter if she fed for 5 mminutes or half an hour but if 1 takes 2oz and the other 6oz they will want their next feed at completley different times. Chloe I am not giving them water to drink? Should i be?? That would be even more bottles to wash and sterilise - I thought they only needed it if the weather was hot - sorry not much help!
Flame - sorry about the rough night - am sure he won't have been crying for long and he probably slept longer cos ho couldn't smell you. Lets face it - it is much easier to wake up if you can smell breakfast. :)

cuffyj1 · 07/04/2006 11:27

Chloe - I don't give ds water very often cos he doesn't like it so i think why bother. But my mum keeps going on at me to give him it. Its cooled boiled water they're meant to have and i gave him some yesterday which was still slightly warm and he took about 2oz which is more than ever before so it was either coincidence that he took it this time or he prefers it warm.

Chloe55 · 07/04/2006 11:31

Yeah, my mum mentioned it but the hv/mw hasn't. I wondered if it was an older generation thing?

cuffyj1 · 07/04/2006 11:40

Ds had another bad night, i took him out in his pushchair at about 6pm and he went to sleep so left him then went out with him again about 7pm and he was still asleep when i got in so left him again and there he stayed til 10.30pm (slept thru 8pm feed) fed him, cuddled him, he went to sleep so put him in his cot (almost midnight by this time Angry)

1am he starts screaming, got him out and cuddled him back to sleep put him down he woke straight up, i was so tired and ended up putting him in bed with us where he slept til 4.30ish. DH fed him :o we both tried more than once to put him down but he wasn't having any of it so by 5.30 i decided to try swaddling him, he went straight down Shock and slept til 8.40. Not brilliant but am def gonna try it again from the start of bedtime.

Not tonight tho cos my mums having him :o looking forward to a good nights sleep (does that sound awful?)

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 11:44

I just want to curl up and sleep. I've just yelled at DD til I had a sore throat, and left a newborn to cry himself to sleep :( I was feeling so good this time yesterday morning, and its suddenly all gone wrong.

re Water - unless they are constipated, I think its only really needed during hot weather.

Thell · 07/04/2006 11:48

3k - would def like to meet up Smile have to build up to driving to bluewater though, as can't stop anywhere if sal cries! think i have your email from babyshow arrangements, so will let you know.

sleeping on side - my hv said it's ok, provided you put something behind to push lower shoulder slightly forwards, so babe can't roll onto face.
sally sleeps on side all the time, but i don't worry cos she only ever rolls onto her back.

Chloe55 · 07/04/2006 11:48

Do you have any family/friends you could ask to look after the kids for a few hours Flame? Sounds like you need to get your head down for an hour or two. Try not to get upset about leaving ds to cry himself to sleep - I have had to do that on occassions too as I have had times where I didn't trust myself to pick him up when I was really tired and upset. He will have forgotten about it when he wakes up Wink

ellenrose · 07/04/2006 11:49

Jua - sorry things are so awkward for you at night - no advice for the ff babies I'm afraid, bf all three of mine.
Ixel - don't worry, I am having to run at 9pm at night on our eliptical (sp?) trainer as it is the only time I have when ds 1 & 2 are in bed and dh can take dd.
Chloe55 - I am doing the Race for Life but I have registered as a "Walker" which means you are not expected to run it and as you are separated from the runners means that people take babes in prams as well - that is how it works for the one in Bristol anyway. Despite the fact I am walking, I do still need to lose a ton of weight to be let out of the house in exercise gear, hence the desperate running Grin

Jasnem · 07/04/2006 11:51

I've been worried about you all giving water now - it was me that mentioned it first. It was in relation to cuffys ds who I was suggesting may be constipated, though. flame is right - constipation or v hot weather are the only times it's useful.
Really hope I haven't given you all more to worry about. In future just remember that whatever I say it's coming from someone with no experience at all of ff.

Thell · 07/04/2006 11:52

hugs flame.

sounds like no babies like sleeping by themselves, and it's natural. not much consolation at the moment tho Sad

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 11:55

Nope :( My mum is off work, but she is recovering from a cold, and I don't want to ask her - she keeps getting really bad colds and is worrying about it, so while she has time to rest and get healthy, I want to leave her to it. My friend has 5 of her own to deal with, one recovering from tonsils coming out, and B tends to turn into a whiney child when we go there and ends up being told off lots, so I don't want to put her through it.

I will talk to DH tonight, see if I can get the saturday morning in bed again - but this time with him actually keeping DD out of the room (she woke me last week)... maybe I could lock the bedroom door, and he'll just have to yell through it if DS needs me to feed him??

Chloe55 · 07/04/2006 11:57

Thanks Ellenrose, and don't worry Jasnem - you just jogged my memory re the water - was meant to ask yesterday as mum keeps harping on about it.

hotmama · 07/04/2006 12:10

Afternoon girls. Smile

Doing a quick post whilst the dd's are napping, then ramming some food down my mouth and cleaning the bathroom before they wake - hopefully! Wink

Dd2 had her check this week now 11.2 - put on a lb in a fortnight - hurray - so now relaxed about feeding - will say I'm actually enjoying bf - can't believe it! Smile

Was getting smug about dd2's sleeping - had a feed in bed until she fell asleep then didn't have another feed until between 6 and 8 am. Today she decided to feed at 4,6 and 8 - so a bit knackered today esp as looking after both dd's.

There has been so much posting so I must catch up and have a read.

Re water - agree with the others if ff - don't need to give any additional water unless constipated or really hot - otherwise the lo's may cut down on feeds and they need the calories etc.

On a general point - ignore your mum's advice - cos it will prob be out of date esp re weaning and prob everything tbh. Wink

Got dd2's jabs booked for next week - I cried more than dd1 for her first jabs - so hopefully this time I will be harder. Grin

Re being fat and running etc. I have joined Weightwatchers this week as I want to lose the flab I gained whilst pregnant - and could have done with losing a couple of stones before I got pregnant - so hopefully will be wearing trousers before I go back to work next Jan. Thinking of doing the Race for Life in June - I did the London Marathon in 2000 - I am so fat and unfit! Sad Grin

Will now read the posts = although dd2 is now waking - lunch is going to be late then!

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 12:10

Word of advice to those with girls... always dress them in clothes that don't match - that way when they are 3 they won't throw a tantrum because they have "boo" hairbands to match their "pupple and boo" t-shirt, but have to wear pink socks because stupid mummy didn't realise that the socks have to be the same colour as the hairbands!!!! Grin

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 12:12

Oh forgot about RFL - its fine to take a pram as long as its not held on a beach like round here. I tried to apply for our one, but apparantly its already closed to applicants :( I have wanted to for years but kept being pregnant, or getting married, or whatever it was the year between... I guess i'll try again next year!

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2006 12:13

Oooh, Chloe - Stick him in the sling and do the walk - it'll be like weight training, and you'll burn off more Grin

Chloe55 · 07/04/2006 12:24

Good idea Flame!

ixel · 07/04/2006 15:09

I was too scared to do RFL this time. My pre ds1 time was 22 minutes... I did one after ds1 was born and it took me 40 minutes, so I dont want to depress myself.
hotmama... wow! Marathon! I did a half marathon in 2002, and did feel like I could've carried on, but probably not the same distance again!!

Jasnem · 07/04/2006 17:07

Boy is now officially Leon Jason. Grin
