Mornig girls,

Jas - your breast doesn't nec have to show any signs of red/lumpiness immediately to be mastitis. Are you feeling fluey at all? If it is a sharp pain through the breast I believe that can be a sign of a blocked duct? If it is still painful at lunchtime I'd try and get in with the doc, you don't want to have another night of constant feeding but this time in pain.

Ds had a much better afternoon/night yesterday. He slept for the majority of it and went to bed at 7.30pm, he stayed awake in his cot until 8.30pm (with dh in the room) but then dropped off to sleep with no tears Smile Then he slept til 12.30am and then again until 4.30am so he is going longer between feeds at night so I think the routine is working. He did however decide not to go back to sleep after his 4.30am feed so at 5.30am I found myself layed on the sofa watching a weepy film until dh got up. I am now knackered, mainly due to the fact that I cried throughout the whole film and have worn myself out Grin

Flamesparrow · 31/03/2006 09:31

Hmmm... so two good nights in a row isn't possible then? He wasn't too bad, I have been constipated though (tmi i know), and my body decided enough was enough and I felt really ill in the middle of the night :( Ok again now.

Jas - was he hungry feeding like that last night, or was it a colic comfort thing? I remember DD being under the impression that feeding would fix her colic, and me being very very sore before I decided enough was enough, and took her for long drives in the car instead! Mine felt solid yesterday after the long time on there - I think it was just overstimulated so went into milk overdrive... much more normal today!

Jasnem · 31/03/2006 12:34

h/v thinks either mastitis or thrush.Going to dr this pm.I'm dreading him waking up now 'cos need to feed him on my bad side.

Cried when talking to a friend this am. She made me breakfast, and has taken my washing abd ironing home with her.I don't know what I'd do without friends atm!

Flamesparrow · 31/03/2006 12:37

Get him all set up with pillows so you don't have to support him much, and have a blanket or teddy in your hand ready to squeeze hell out of. Ooh, labour breathing helps too.

(Or you could try Ixel's cow method Grin)

Jasnem · 31/03/2006 16:00

Grin I mised the cow method earlier. Just read it and laughed for the first time today.I will be trying it next time though.

I got through this time withpillows and gritted teeth.

Flamesparrow · 31/03/2006 16:22

I have been tempted to try cow method just to amuse DD Grin

Finally just back with my own babies... exhausted! DS has chosen this afternoon to stop sleeping nicely... must be cuddled!

Frizbe · 31/03/2006 20:34

Ixel, electric pumping! its the only thing that drags 'owt out of my boobs.....managed a whole 1oz earlier!! but then dd2 has been attaching herself for most of the day double feeding every 2hrs, so guess she's having a spurt! in fact she's just stirring now for another go....
Jas, hope its not the dreaded mastitis for you...
Hope everyone has good weekends.

ixel · 01/04/2006 08:58

Glad my methods are amusing you all Grin
I'm feeling alot better in that department, but I really think my supply has dwindled too much. Used to be able to express 150mls or so, last night could only get 40ml out. Also, it doesn't come out so much when you squeeze with your hand, and ds2 doesn't seem satisfied. I think I left it too late to be brave and feed through the mastitis Sad
If I do have to go to 100%bottle feeding, can someone remind me... how long is a bottle of water sterile if out of the fridge? I just cant remember! Ds2 just cant handle steri bottles yet, even the slowest ones, so I'll have to take prpoer bottles and make up the formula.
Jasnem, I really hope you haven't got it. Your dh sounds about as good as mine through it; he suddenly decided he had swollen glands, so was too ill to help do anything. Funny how he's better now. To be fair, sometimes he's great.. but then he spoils it all by causing a big argument another time!

Frizbe · 01/04/2006 10:02

Ixel, think its 24 hrs from what I remember....know cold water sterilizer has a 24 hr run on it, with Milton, before it needs changing.....
Hope everyone is ok out there, we're defo on a 4 week grow thing (4 weeks today Grin) only managed a 4 hr sleep last night in a row!

Chloe55 · 01/04/2006 11:16

Morning girls,

Ixel - yeah, I think Frizbe is right it is 24 hours.

Can I just say how proud I am of ds and how impressed I am with the routine thing (I know I was slagging it off the other day!) Anyway, he was in bed for 8pm and slept right through until 2.30am and then again until 7.30am - woohoo!!!! I hope he keeps this up, I can cope with just getting up once in the night Grin

House is a mess today, why is it that although I tidy up daily that's all I seem to do - tidy?! DH did look after ds this am though so I didn't actually get out of bed until 9.30am, needed to lie-in after my 4.30am get up yesterday. Gonna stop on here for a bit and then I guess I had better do some work Sad

cuffyj1 · 01/04/2006 13:04

Morning.

Lewis is asleep and i'm bored so i've put another picture of him on, i can't believe how time is flying 7 week old already.

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=160654&stamp=060401124927\Lewis and Gizmo}

Well done for the routine chloe we haven't even attempted it yet. Gonna think about trying soon tho cos he seems to have got over his colic so it might work.

He's slept loads better last 2 nights so we might be getting somewhere (hope i haven't spoke too soon).

Have a good weekend everyone!! :)

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2006 13:33

I think I'll start thinking about nighttime routines when we hit the six week mark... at the moment it all just goes wrong every other day Grin.

Got a whole morning in bed (half of it with little man, half not) - feel soooo much more relaxed now!!! He seems to have finally sussed the bad side, supply is up, and the hurty sensation that I've been having between feeds seems to have stopped today (probably spoken too soon now).

Blush Sorry for getting excited about your feeding methods Ixel - the images were too vivid to ignore!! :( for your supply dwindling... I feel sure that there are piles of helpful suggestions for boosting it, but I get the feeling that they probably involve a lot more time and energy than the average mum of two has! If you switch to bottles, I have 6 newborn avent teats here not being used if you want them - just let me know. (Or anyone else who's interested... kept planning to see if I could return them to Boots, but can't be bothered Blush).

Jas - what did the doctor say?

I think I'm done with all my babysitting duties for a while now Grin. Now I just have my sister home for tomorrow, and then I can get back to normal (ish)!!!

Tabs · 01/04/2006 16:11

Oh dear - haven't posted in so long that this thread disappeared from my active conversations Shock.

Has been a very busy few days - DD has done LOTS of screaming. Am hoping it's just a couple of days of madness after the osteopath, as we seemed to get that last time too, before a gradual improvement over the week.

Went for baby massage yesterday - thought she might scream all the way through, but seemed reasonably happy, and although we struggled a bit to settle her initially, she then slept from 8:30 until 2:45ish, which is her longest stint yet. Expect it was just a one off, but encouraging. Will see if she is happy and awake enough for another go before bed tonight.

Ixel- if you express regularly from the problem breast will it not build your supply back up?

Right, missing out on playtime with Pippa, so best go. DH is being much more use than usual this weekend, so he is doing play at the moment.

Jasnem · 01/04/2006 16:36

Hello,
I've been feeding through the pain the last 2 days, and by the time I got to Dr last night was improving. No drugs required Smile, just keep feeding. I almost feel back to normal now.
Thanks Ixel for resurrecting that thread the other day; I read it and bought some ibuprofen...definitely helped, and wouldn't have thought to try it otherwise. Really hope you can build your supply back up. You deserve an award for persistance in the face of so many problems.

Much better night last night, too. DS settled at 8.30 and I got to have a bath before bed, and still get more sleep than usual.

No school now 'til after Easter, so I will be tested to my limits now. The girls can't grasp the idea of leaving a sleeping baby alone. He keeps getting kissed and cuddled awake (grrrr).

ixel · 01/04/2006 16:53

Really pleased you're over the worst, Jasnem Smile

Tabs...I am trying to rebuild supply, but need a plan B as I hate to be unprepared. Seems not tooo bad today actually.

Frizbe · 02/04/2006 16:42

Good stuff Ixel, you go girl! but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work, bottles aren't the end of the world.

Jas, well done for feeding thru, I know what you mean about the girls, dd1 woke dd2 again this am, grrrrrrrrr, have explained time after time that this will stop her having quality time with mum, but she still likes to say hi to her sister when she's asleep.....argh!

Hi Tabs, glad things are getting better after the osteo

Hi to everyone else, not much to report here, just our boiler bust on Friday night....argh! luckily the washing machine and dishwasher heat their own water, as does the shower, so we can just about manage.....and we have one gas fire, which we need today, as its a bit nippy! fingers x'd when I call the plumber out tomorrow they can fix it asap rather than later.....

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 16:45

Ixel, have you started a thread asking for TikTok's suggestions for your Problem Breast?

Flamesparrow · 02/04/2006 19:59

I've spent most of the day nicely floaty! Had the start of a migraine earlier, and found out that I could take syndol... great stuff Grin. My mum and sister played with DD & DS all afternoon, and I got to sit in a stoned heap apart from feeding time.

Still a bit headachey, but caught it in time to stop horrible pain (I hope... I'm a bit worried it will come back when the pills totally wear off, but I can't take any more because DS spends most nights in our bed).

Forgotten everythign I wanted to say to everyone :(

Going to doctors tomorrow to find out about getting a coil at my 6 week check, and to find out if I'm thrushy - the itchy pain has come back, and DS now has a white tongue... it doesn't sound like anyone else's descriptions of thrush, but I'm going to check.

Oh, he's still very spotty... the others with little men... when did the spots start to ease off? I've been told its to do with the girly hormones leaving their system, but not sure how long it takes.

Hoipe everyong is ok

(Typign a mess because eyes are still settling with migraine.)

Jasnem · 02/04/2006 20:28

Ds is seriously spotty now, but younger by a week, so no help here.

Late night last night...wide awake 'til midnight again. Sleeping in my arms now, but I'm sure he'll wake when I put him down. So wanted an early night.

DP is all mouth and no trousers at the moment. I've had serious talks explaining that I need him to help me. He agrees and promises the earth... then when I have a specific request he always has an excuse. He agreed to take them all out this afternoon, but when i found that the child of the house has had D&V for 2 days and said no, he didn't do anything instead.

I'm going to drink tea and eat choc biscuits til ds goes to sleep again. Just woke and screaming, so off again now.

Tabs · 03/04/2006 05:39

OMG - DD been asleep since 9:30 last night! Only up myself as have abdominal scan at 12 (to check out my poss gall bladder prob) and can't eat for 6 hrs beforehand, so thought I'd better have some early breakfast!

Gave her another massage yesterday afternoon, and taken to playing whale music all night, and guess it's working. :)

OP posts:
ixel · 03/04/2006 08:49

Jas... I totally lost it last night with dh, and gave him till 10th May to start being more civil to me, as thats the first date I can get taken home to my Mum by my Dad!!! Dh is being helpful, so I dont mean to belittle your situation, but he's just sooo begrudging, really sharp with me, and keeps pulling the 'but I have to get up for work' trick if I ask for a bit of help in the night. Some of my friends have the opininon that if you're a SAHM you should do EVERYTHING, night and day. Personally, I think the kids are my day job, like his job is his job, and then we should share when he's around. Is this wrong and naive?

Re the spots... ds2 has loads. The hv advised I see the GP last week. He said they were normal baby spots, but as there were so many of them he gave a prescription for cream, just to stop them spreading. It does work, when I remember to put it on!

Jasnem · 03/04/2006 08:50

Shock tabs you must be doing something right! Hope the scan goes ok this am.

I'm tired again. Ds up every 2.5 hrs all night. Now hes sleeping, kids are up. Last week I had to set the alarm for 8, this week they're bright and cheery from 7! Not fair.

ixel · 03/04/2006 08:50

Ooops.. should say that ds2 was 5 weeks when he saw the GP.

Jasnem · 03/04/2006 08:57

Ixel -hope your dh gets his act together. I feel bad moaning, as now hes back at work he is up early and does have a hard physical job. But yesterday he had the day off and thinks he should get to rest on his day off.I have tried asking when /I get a day off. He promised he'll take the girls this evening, so we'll see.
I know he's useless with babies, and hardly ever ask him to take him (he does cuddle and play. But gives him to me when he cries(but the girls aren't babies!
