I'm slowly working my way through a bag of mini Reeces'peanut butter cups that DH brought me home. calorie counting is a PITA but will continue for a bit longer til I get bored. Since stopping BF at least my appetite and tastebuds have gone back to normal.

Though my main peeve at the moment is the hoop-jumping needed to get a coil re-fitted. One family planning clinic only fits them every fortnight and it doesn't take any bookings apart from each Friday, the other place quoted me a minimum 2 week wait for assessment, swabs and fitting with two appointments needed. I understand the checks needed for safe fitting but this is frustrating cos I want it put back in asap, no more babies chez Aethel, please!

Never used a mai tei, sorry (though the SSC - a rose and rebellion one- is great for back carries and I have now learned to put him in myself: it looks hair-raising but feels secure and safe, thanks to youtube tutorials with the v similar bebo carrier.)

hawthers · 15/08/2012 16:55

Teething grumps, epic nasty poos and a refusal to eat anything from over here. Fun times.

I'm exhausted.

But f has slept from 8-6.30 for 4 of the last 5 nights. We've done nothing differently - oh arse I've jinxed it again haven't i?

HoneyLovesCake · 15/08/2012 17:54

thanks aethel & thanks for the finger foods book recommendation too, got one on ebay & it's fab, just what I needed to inspire me :)

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 15/08/2012 18:27

HLC You are the my baby wrap queen thanks Grin

Figgygal · 15/08/2012 20:19

hawthers we have had epic poos here too luckily after I'd gone to work but dh texted me to tell me about it as it was so bad it ruined his bodysuit and his shorts so they went in bin.

DS had his first taste of beans on toast tonight I bought the reduced sugar and salt ones god they r horribly bland!! He seemed to love them though he was screeching and gurning like a mad thing.

Seen some of the pics on fb today of babies standing, pulling themselves up Danny still happy bum shuffling though he's just gone to bed post bath and story like a very happy dude

NorthernChinchilla · 15/08/2012 20:23

Wow, not long to go DSM - are you getting nervous, or excited?

I'd say you're definitely ready to drop it Cherry, especially if he's not so interested any more. It's funny isn't it (sort of same with Kitty)- I think I'd read so much on MN about 'how to get your baby to do X' I sort of wasn't expecting them to do it themselves. And yes, seven months is great Grin!

If MiniM is up to it at the weekend, I think you should try and give yourselves a break Mopsy- is there anyone who could take her, or mind her just for a little bit, give you and DH a few hours to watch a crappy film, or sleep or something? You must be shattered, and it must be horrible trying to get all of that into a baby who funnily enough doesn't want any of it...

How're you getting on LMF, what's causing the Banbury? Is Octoboy unwell or not sleeping, or is it just the three-children-over-the-summer-holidays syndrome?

We've had a great day- it didn't rain on us (probably about the only place in the country that didn't) hurrah! Did some shopping, wildly exciting- I got a £10 black cardie for work, put a dress in to be altered, and we bought DS some new onesies for the next size up. And a massive pack of wipes as they were on offer in M'care, less than half price!

The best/worst bit of it though was lunch- we went to Pizza Express at about 3 (delayed for various reasons) and then waited a bloody hour, whilst it was quiet, whilst loads of other people got their food. DS was fine, Bob bless him, but we were disgruntled. Turns out they'd naffed up our order, so we ended up taking a 'spare' pizza home with us for free!

Lunch: pepperoni pizza
Dinner: pepperoni pizza
Grin

to be fair, it's their lighter ones (albeit with full fat mozzerella) but still.....!

NorthernChinchilla · 15/08/2012 20:25

Oh, and have you noticed that air's got one of the discussions of the day now as well?!

We plebs had better start practising our curtseys for the MN royalty on this thread Grin

seven77 · 15/08/2012 20:44

I think I have a throat infection. There's a white patch on one side and swallowing is really painful. aethel is that GP worthy or do I just need to give it a few days?

mopsytop · 15/08/2012 21:01

seven I have zero medical expertise but I swear by gargling every half hour with salt water (don't swallow it though, obviously!). It really does work in my experience. And dose yourself up with painkillers, they really are effective for sore throats. But no idea re seeing GP. Hope you feel better soon!

Minim went down for the night in her own cot (she slept in with us the past cpl of nights as she was so poorly) and she's asleep so I hope we get a better night. I'm already in bed just to get a few hours in in case she's up all night again. We don't have any rellies here unfortunately northern, and no friends I'd ask at short notice really, cos mostly they don't have kids and she's still a little small I think to be minded by someone with no baby experience (is this me being an over protective mum?) but hopefully we can catch up on sleep abc each get a lie in maybe at the weekend, fingers crossed she sleeps well tonight anyway. She's defs on the mend, she had a good deal more formula today, nowhere near as much as normal but a good bit more than Monday or Tuesday, phew!

Hope everyone gets a good night!!

NorthernChinchilla · 15/08/2012 21:13

Ah, we're the same mopsy, it's a pain isn't it? But if you can at least give each other a lie-in at the weekend then hopefully that'll help! Really hope she's on the mend.

Sounds like tonsillitis to me seven, so I'd definitely get to the Doctor's. I had it so much and so often they eventually took the buggers out, best thing that happened to me: shame they waited til I was 21.

KateM77 · 15/08/2012 21:27

seven sounds like tonsillitis as northern said. I've had it a couple of times this year. Get yourself to GP. If there is white stuff it's bacterial rather than viral, and you can get antibiotics for it. In the meantime paracetamol, salt water gargles, and rest as much as possible. Get well soon

aethelfleda · 15/08/2012 22:35

Hiya seven: poor you! Actually it's not that simple as patches = antibiotics: as some viral tonsilitis can cause white patches (exudates) and some bacterial tonsillitises don't make them. Also, especially if it's one sided, the tonsils themselves can make white gungy bits (tonsiliths) so you might be seeing one of them if it's just one or two patches.
The natural history of tonsillitis is get worse over 3 days, then improve sometime over the next 48 hours, about 12 hours sooner if antbiotics are taken (but that's because some people are taking them for a virus ie no effect). Best thing to do is a) take regular paracetamol or ibuprofen (or alternate), plenty of fluids, mild salt gargles if you can b) keep an eye on your temp, a prolongued persistant high temp that doesnt get much better with the drugs is a bit more likely bacterial, c) go to GP if you can't swallow liquids, feel like a badger's ae, or it's not turning around by day 4-5, or if you get lots of white spots all over the tonsils. Hope you get better soon!

seven77 · 15/08/2012 22:53

Thanks all. Temp was 39 for 24 hours from yesterday lunchtime but is normal again now. I felt bloody awful yesterday afternoon, weak and shaky. Will keep an eye on it and see GP on Friday/Monday if need be.

mopsy glad it sounds like MiniM is on the mend.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 16/08/2012 06:53

Seven Hope you feel better soon. Tonsillitis is the work of the devil. Suffered with it for years. Had them out when I was 20. Darcie suffered 10 times over an 18month period and I had to really push for her to have them removed. Which happened Jan 2011 at same time they removed her adenoids too. So we are both so much better now Grin

Mopsy Hope MiniM is on the mend.

2 sleeps........Grin

Northern I both nervous & excited. Pick up my dress this morning which will def make it more real Smile

Figgygal · 16/08/2012 07:04

He slept until 6.45 Grin
A cat woke me up at 5.30 Angry

Right off to work SadSad

mopsytop · 16/08/2012 07:41

Today is nursery day but minim is still asleep. (Only one wake up! Thank Bob! I really needed the sleep. I conked out at 9pm and slept like a log apart from getting up once.) That's really not normal for her,, she usually wakes at 6, so I think I'd better err on the side of caution and keep her at home today. Anyway I'd feel too guilty dumping her in nursery when she's been so unwell all week. If she is better today, I'll take her tomorrow.

V exciting re: dress DSM, I remember you have the fittings for it. Must be over a year ago now!

OiMissus · 16/08/2012 07:41

dsm 2 sleeps!!! Fantastic! It's marked on my calendar, and I will try and make the effort to have a glass of something fizzy at 3;30pm on Saturday.
seven sorry about your poorly tonsils, hope you're on the mend, alongside Minim.
Well, what do you know, BOi had a bottle at 10.30pm and then didn't have another until 6am this morning! I hope this continues. Despite having 2 - 3 meals a day now, depending on his mood, he has still been having 5 or 6 bottles a day. he didn't sleep through completely, he needed shushing and reassuring, but maybe...
he's still in with us. I'll try and start the nursery decor this weekend. He had a horrible cough so...

HoneyLovesCake · 16/08/2012 08:13

Rocco keeps pulling himself up on the telly stand so (I'm a bit late baby proofing Blush) I just went on to ebay & typed in tv straps & ended up looking at strap on boobs for transvestites Grin

OiMissus · 16/08/2012 08:52

Ha ha ha!! Whoops!
What is it with them? Ali is obsessed with the TV, even when it isn't switched on, which is most of the time when he's in. But he crawls over, pulls himself up on the stand, and then puts his hands on the screen to lean against. I say NO firmly, I say it more loudly, again, No. I clap my hands sharply to get his attention... say it's dangerous, one day it will fall on your head. I'll go over, pull him away, make him look at my face and say NO firmly. And he laughs in my face. Thinks it's hilarious.
As soon as he's old enough to grasp the concept of a naughty step, he's gonna be right on it! Little tyke. Why-yI-Yaughta!
We're going to have to have a chat about acceptable behaviour.
For example, screaming at night for milk. Not acceptable.
Crying and then crawling into mummy's bed at night and not staying in the mahoosive comfy cot. Not acceptable.
Kicking your covers off when it's cold. Not acceptable.
Whinging when you've crawled into mummy's bed and in mummy's space, when it's cold and not allowing mummy to have any covers. Not acceptable.
Rolling about when we're trying to change a pooey nappy. Not acceptable.
Putting fingers in people's nostrils and pulling. Not acceptable.
Grabbing eyeballs and lips. Not acceptable.
Putting mummy's phone or the remote control in your mouth. Not acceptable.
Beating up people who are not as strong as you (mummy and daddy) all the time (punching, head butting, etc). Not acceptable.
Then we will add "getting tattoos" and "Wearing sports wear when you are not playing sports" and "Wearing trousers that show all your bum" to the list when he gets a bit older. Hmm

seven77 · 16/08/2012 08:52

At least they were only strap on boobs Honey. Sorry, anyway ...

dsm so exciting!

mopsy glad she slept better, hopefully she's just sleeping off the last of it.

for BOi

seven77 · 16/08/2012 08:55

Can we add singing whilst drunk to that list oi? And talking in burps?

HoneyLovesCake · 16/08/2012 09:53

Oi OH has full sleeves & chest tattoo; think I'm fighting a losing battle on that one :( Don't get me wrong I like them on OH but on Rocco Shock the thought of blemishing that beautiful skin oh no no no no no!

Not in the best mood, we had agreed to go on holiday first week in September, hopefully still warm in Italy but out of school holidays. Italy has been looking pricey to travel from down here so I'd said I'd be willing to go anywhere as long as we go somewhere warm but we've still not booked as OH thought it'd be best to do it last minute. So this morning I said if we're going on holiday in 2 weeks don't you think we should book something & he said well I doubt we will be going anywhere that soon Angry I don't think he realises how badly we need this holiday; I've still not gotten over him leaving me to go to Goa & I'm not likely to if he reneges on his promise of a holiday this year Sad I said, so if we're missing the European summer are we going to the Carribean then Hmm I got no reply!

Figgygal · 16/08/2012 13:30

HLC i know how you feel on the holiday front i am desperate for one but in the same breath dont want to take DS away, he hates the he and franky i go on holiday to relax, drink the local beer and go on trips around whatever country we are in none of which suits little man.

I might send him to my parents next year for a week and DH and i us go without him. My parents, DB, SIL, SIL Parents and my niece are all off to disneyland next year i want to go but he wont remember it so DH has said no, keep debating whether can go or not but the idea of 9 hour flight chills my blood.

What is it about babies poking and pulling faces must be age for it DS is a glasses grabber and a hair puller too

BJR · 16/08/2012 14:00

Can't believe it's so close DSM hope you have a wonderful day Smile

Oi can I add to your list - standing up in the bath and trying to climb out - not acceptable oh and standing up using other children's hair to balance - also not acceptable.

mopsytop · 16/08/2012 14:11

Golly I'd say minim is months from standing. She's vaguely trying to crawl but can only go backwards a few inches.
