Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

And yy to numberjacks baddies being kinda mean! Although oddly they don't frighten ds1 HmmConfused

jaggythistle · 16/08/2012 22:43

oh i forgot the exciting news that we managed SFF yesterday. well half an SFF cos DS2 woke up, but i feel a bit better that it's been attempted iyswim!

jaggythistle · 17/08/2012 02:43

I'm grumpy cos DS1 woke up at 2am and i can't get back to sleep. DS2 asleep the whole time. can hear him starting to stir a bit though.

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 02:59

I'm up too Jaggy - ds2 not sleeping well at the mo so have just fed him and now plucking up the courage to do The Transfer Confused

jaggythistle · 17/08/2012 03:23

DS2 woke up about 10 seconds after i posted! have just transferred him, sounded a bit restless but hopefully comfy now.

he was cute when he woke up, i cuddled him in as i picked him up and he was so hungry he latched on to my face. Grin

trying to get back to sleep now...hope you are too biscuits.

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 07:12

Pah! So I was trying to get back to sleep Jaggy but for some reason couldn't Hmm (How does that work?). When u finally dropped off, DS2 started wriggling etc again until we ended up feeding just after 5. DH nearly got stabbed when he rolled over and said 'maybe you should feed him' Angry. Yes, thank you, how would I get by without you reminding me I have to feed him? That suggestion at night always makes me feel stabby because it always makes me think (and my rational daytime brain knows this isn't how DH means it) he's just saying 'you're waking me up, take him away and do something that I have absolutely no input into'.

DH has said he'll get up with the toothy monster tonight though Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh and then by the time he's finally back down in his crib, it's not worth me going back to bed as I need to get up for when ds1 does Confused.

Incidentally ds2 feeds for way longer than he used to. Like 30+ mins rather than used to be 15. Weaning sign or just to be expected? Answers on a postcard.....

jaggythistle · 17/08/2012 07:49

maybe a growth spurt? DS2 still having a lot of big feeds this week, more than usual.

biscuits I'm glad I'm not the only one going mental at night with helpful comments like "jaggy, he's awake" (yes and if you wheesht and stop bloody snoring he might settle)"are you going to feed him?"(no i thought we'd go out a walk) even during the day i seethe a bit. "look at the time, DS1 should be in bed for a nap by now" this as he wanders into the house while I'm feeding DS2 or mid nappy and to me it's obvious why we're behind schedule. he's not survived more than 25 minutes with both bairns yet i don't think. just hope he gets used to it by the time I'm back to work in a few months time.

re naps for older toddlers - did yours stop napping by themselves eventually? DS1 really seems to still need a sleep, but someone has put doubt in my mind that he's just used to it. he's looking dozy and getting grumpy or hyper by 1 o'clock if he's not slept though. Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 08:02

Glad mine isn't the only helpful hubbie Grin

DS1 napped until just after he was 3 and stopped by himself. And until almost that time he used to have up to 3 hours sometimes. I'd say go with it for as long as you can. I long for nap days.....

He will sometimes still have a nap of he's fallen asleep in the car etc. we can sometimes transfer him to the bed or sofa to carry on sleeping depending on how tired he is but on a normal day he wouldn't nap.

pommedechocolat · 17/08/2012 08:40

biscuits - A is getting quicker I think. Maybe something to do with the teeth? or because he's getting near to weaning?

dd1 stopped napping at 19 months. I still 'made' her have a nap in the car until about 22 months. At 18 months she started screaming when put in cot for nap time. Then it got better, then at 19 months came back with a vengance and that was it. She does have times of being sleepy around lunch time but won't actually drop off unless in the car.

We had a slightly better night - up for feeds at 10, 2 and 5 and only max 30 mins needed for feeding and settling at each. Sleep is good! I'm not sure whether it is:

a. less omeprazole
b. the new big cot bumper so she can't see out of cot
c. the fact she has slept very little over the previous 2 nights
d. the fact i followed my mum's advice and cut naps short and endured a very grumpy baby at teatime.

Answers on a postcard please!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 09:15

The little munchkin has had a totally peaceful no-wriggling 3 hours asleep now. Now I'm not sleeping Hmm. Typical! Where was this sleeping style last night? I'm going to have to wake him up to take Ds1 to nursery.....

Wants3 · 17/08/2012 11:35

scarlet ds1 has another year of A levels but is applying to uni in Oct. It is going to be a bit stressy here next spring as ds2 will be doing GCSEs,ds1,A levels and I will have a dissertation to hand in for uni! I think DH will be entertaining the 1 year old!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 14:12

Well done to your DS1 Wants. I don't know how these new fandangled a levels work. Presumably getting good grades at the end of year 12 helps the old uni applications? What does he want to study?

Well, the teething menace is catching up on his sleep today alright for some, I'm ironing. After his big calm stint earlier he had another nap on the way home from nursery, AND let me transfer him to his crib for it. Then woke up, had a feed and went BACK to sleep Shock. And let me transfer him to the crib again. This is after a week or more of hardly getting him to nap at all and certainly transfers to bed were NOT advisable!

Ah well, it's something totally different every day with him!

Maybe his teeth are calming down? Ibdi hope so Confused

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 17/08/2012 14:12

Biscuits and Jaggy, I was also up at stupid o'clock, and then stupid o'clock plus 2 hrs, and repeat. I don't actually know how often M got up in the end, it's all a blur. It was a lot, though! The only bit I remember clearly is putting her down at 5, falling asleep, and then being woken up again and looking at the clock and it was 5.08. Grr. How do I make her sleep through, or even sleep for 4 hours at a stretch? Answers on a postcard please...

Oh, and DH sleeps through the whole thing, apart from rolling over and making the bed creak loudly when I can hear M starting to stir and am lying frozen willing her to go back to sleep. Angry Then he complains that he's tired in the morning.

I don't want to wean her until 6 months because she was 3 weeks early, but it is starting to seem very appealing! Someone talk sense into me and remind me that weaning does not equal sleep necessarily...

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 14:16

Think we're in the same boat weaning wise Too with our three week early babies. I guess they're 22 weeks but only really 19?

Maybe ask a HV whether they think a bit of weaning on top of milk would help with the sleep? Or whether they think the 3 week early thing is really an issue? I'm seeing my HV next wed hopefully so might ask her about the early thing?

hawthers · 17/08/2012 14:41

Not sure if the sleeping got better over here after starting weaning but re the early thing I was advised to wean DS1 based on his actual age rather than his corrected age. So he started solids when he was 4 months old rather than 6. Does that help?

We've had a run of sleeping finally! At the grand old age of nearly 8 months f has slept through 5 of the last 7 nights. Thank the lord. DH is being a knob though ah well it all balances out in the end right? Too numerous instances of knobitude to detail nothing serious just very irritating!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 14:43

I'm being totally thick here Hawthers but which is his actual / corrected age? I can so tell I've had no sleep!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 15:12

Ha! I'm such a sap! I'm actually missing E now that he's been asleep all day!

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 15:15

Right trying to apply my brain to what you said Hawthers (or at least the remnants of what was once a brain). E was born 3 weeks early so was born 22 weeks ago but should have only been 19 weeks ago. Actual age = 22 weeks, corrected age = 19 weeks? (not that he has a corrected age as he wasn't prem but logic-wise). So you're basically saying ignore the fact they were early?

hawthers · 17/08/2012 15:17

So actual age is according to birth date si DS1 was weaned in Feb as he was born in Aug so 6 months old. But he was due in Oct so his corrected age was only 4 months in Feb. Does that help?

hawthers · 17/08/2012 15:22

Argh confused I guess wean when he is actually 6 months don't go on his due date. Clear as mud?

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 15:28

Yep - gotcha.

I used to be quite clever once upon a time. Now my mind is dumbed down to only be able to cope with the plot of an episode of Bob the Builder Grin

pommedechocolat · 17/08/2012 15:38

I feel like that too biscuits!

weaning doesnt equal more sleep but both my dds have been really chaotic milk feeders so weaning at least was the key to getting a daytime routine going.

pommedechocolat · 17/08/2012 15:38

also doesnt 37 weeks count as term?

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 16:12

It does Pomme but only just iyswim. So they were only just cooked Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 17/08/2012 16:13

On a bad day even BTB is a bit much - some days the Zingzillas is all I can manage.....
