OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Eeeew, Jaggy! Grin

Right, am trying a new approach: keep M feeding for longer before bed. I took a clock in so I could time her, and she fell fast asleep within 3 minutes of sitting down to feed. I jiggled her, patted her head, blew on her face, sang to her and kept her sucking after a fashion for 20 minutes, but she really wasn't feeding properly - very light sucks with lots of breaks. I'm not sure how much more milk she'd have taken in. Still, I tried!

scarletfingernail · 26/08/2012 22:23

Next door having a party, very loudly. Can't really moan as it's unusual for them. But they're outside in the back garden BBQing, shouting, laughing, listening to music etc. DD is restless because of it. Guess I'm just jealous because we don't get to do anything like that anymore Envy

Brooking for sleep for all of us.

PetWoman · 26/08/2012 22:47

Thanks Jaggy. I think I meant, when your DS2 is wanting to feed and feed, how long does he spend on the first side before crying for the second? I'm worried cos DS is sometimes only spending a few minutes on the first side before I have to swap, and then only a few minutes on the next side until I have to swap back again. And again. It doesn't seem right to me. Does that make sense?

RubberBullets · 27/08/2012 07:06

Nothing interesting in DD's nappies yet but if anything it will be cat hair.

I am not happy. DD is 13 weeks tomorrow and AF got me today. I bled til 6 weeks, had a few days break before bleeding for another week and now am bleeding again. That means I have been bleeding for most of the time since she was born!

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2012 08:50

Grr another bad night bang goes my nap theory!

I'm finding all daytime feeds a bit crap and all night feeds good currently too. Frustrating. I do feel like my let down takes forever in the day though and is ok at night.

Biscuitsandtea · 27/08/2012 09:04

Boo for a bad night Pomme Sad

Was it you who was seeing a CO? How did it go / is it going?

I'm in a real mix with feeding at the mo - its completely fine at home - DS is comfortable, I'm comfortable and he generally feeds well. When we're out it's a completely different story. His arms and legs are flapping about because he's uncomfortable (and this just gets worse as he gets bigger). I'm generally uncomfortable too and yet I could put up with this if he fed well but he ends up bobbing on and off and looking round and generally flapping around and not eating much at all. I so wish I could switch to formula but just when we're out. But obviously I can't have milk there just on the days I'm at home and not on the days I'm out Confused. I don't know whether to just start replacing the daytime feeds with formula Confused. I can't work out whether we're in or out more in the day iyswim to go with the majority? Pah!

DreamingOfPeace · 27/08/2012 09:23

Boo pomme, I hate the way you think something is sorted then suddenly it isn't... kind of relieved the cot napping may not be the miracle cure as I'm out a lot and would find it so restrictive B has been doing the 'colicky' crying all week, fitting in with sun and more dairy for me- in ice cream form of course. Can't decide if its a 'real' link/cmpi or I'm clutching at straws. Can i pick your brains? How long would I have to be dairy free for it to have an effect on my milk and therefore B? And equally, is it that an high intake day would affect him the next day? does dairy free mean none or just minimal? Could you have one normal chocolate bar for example, or a cup of tea with normal milk? I'm thinking I might try as he's 21 weeks on Wednesday and crying a couple of hours every evening recently. And i don't know what else to try.

And totally ewww jaggy, impressed he could swallow a hair in the first place!

DreamingOfPeace · 27/08/2012 09:29

I don't know really biscuits, feeding S is like feeding a ferret in a sack sometimes, whereever we are. B is often jerky feeding and seems less comfortable too, but ^^ as you can see there are other queries for him and he's more refluxy. Gaviscon definitely not helping though. Other than trying to go somewhere quiet and get comfy I don't know really... I think the odd ff here and there won't affect your supply too much if its not every day?? My friend is still feeding her 23 month old on demand when she's not at work so doesn't feed in the day 3 days a week but does the rest of the week and says she has loads of milk

jaggythistle · 27/08/2012 09:36

i wonder if it was on his hand when he was sucking his thumb so he ate it? it only happened once but i remember being Shock

well DS2 slept 2 hours in a row early this morning ...and DS1 was up right in the middle again. sigh. poor wee guy does have a cold i suppose. hardly ever shouts for daddy.

we don't seem to have suffered for a day off potty training. i was a bit worried he'd decide he didn't want to wear pants again! i can't wait till he gets more keen on the toilet though, emptying the potty is not an especially fun task.

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2012 10:08

biscuits - yes, I saw the co for three sessions. I think it helped and I'm glad it's done iyswim - I've eradicated any worries regarding birth and effects on her. Co reckoned she had a big twist on one side due to being breech until 34 weeks.

dream - for a the big one was chocolate and if I had masses of choc within hours a would be having a huge horrible attack. Bm is slightly 'filtered' in regards to what you eat so it's when you eat masses of dairy that it really shows. In terms of cutting it out - after two weeks a was much calmer but things seemed to get better within 4-5 days. A's cmpi is actually mild so I am eating bits of dairy again (but mainly cooked not raw things like yoghurt, ice cream etc) and she can tolerate a bit of cows milk (yogurts a disaster though which is annoying).

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 10:37

Hello all!

Slightly better night - M slept 10-2, then up 2-hourly after that until 6. Woke at 7 when DH's alarm went off, but still v sleepy so I managed to get her back to sleep at 8 and she slept til nearly 10! Bloody HV called at 9 to tell me that M doesn't have jabs today - I was like I know that! - which woke me up mid-nap, but it was still almost a lie-in. I made M feed for at least 10 mins every time she woke up which I think helped her to stay asleep for 2 hours instead of 1. Will try to make her feed for 20 mins at her first wakening tonight and see if I can get another 4-hour block out of her. The trouble is that when I'm sleepy too I just want to put her back in her cot and not mess around trying to keep her eating!

Boo for AF, Rubber! That's really unfair. How's yours today, Scream?

Pet, if M does that it usually means she's not really hungry, or is windy, or something. If you take him off the boob when he keeps switching, does he seem hungry or does he settle into playing quite happily? M will sometimes get full when she's sleepy but not realise that it's ok to let go, so she'll bob on and off and get grizzly. If she's doing that I tend to try lying her down in the cot and seeing if she drifts off - it sometimes works!

Pomme, boo for another bad night! I was hoping that you'd cracked it and therefore M wouldn't be far behind as she's only a couple of weeks younger than A. Back to the drawing board...

Biscuits, is it that E is nosey? M never feeds so well out and about because she wants to know what every little noise is or stare at people. Hmm Only when she's really tired will she feed properly in a cafe/group. I don't go out that much, though, so it doesn't affect us too much. [unhelpful] On the flip side, though, if she doesn't feed well when she's out, she does wear herself out with all the stimulation, so it doesn't seem to make much difference to her night-time sleep.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 10:38

Can you eat dark choc, Pomme? Am horrified at the thought of cutting out all chocolate!

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2012 10:41

I eat dairy free choc from sainsburys too - its not too bad either :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2012 11:49

Ewwwwwwww to all the hairs coming out of babies!! Made me laugh out loud though! Which freaked out DH!

Grin at Dream's "ferret in a sack" comment.

Sorry to hear about the dairy dilemmas. I have a related but kind of opposite fear - we'll be introducing formula to DD from the start of September (so she'll have been ebf to 18 weeks) and I'm desperately hoping she won't have any sort of reaction to her first encounter with lactose. We'll start with one bottle a day (if she lets us get away with that) and by the time I go off on my residential work training course on the 13th she'll need to be ff throughout the daytime and only having bm at night, because I'll only be able to leave enough bm with DH to cover the nighttime feeding. (I don't like the consistency of my bm after it's been defrosted, so I'm only leaving as much bm with DH as I can express in the 3 days leading up to the course). Does anyone have any tips for introducing formula? I'm assuming that mixing it with bm is a big no-no?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 11:53

Just tried Level 2 of the Shred - it is so much harder! Was rescued interrupted by M not wanting to sit in Jumperoo/lie on mat any more, so stopped two-thirds of the way through it. If I'm feeling very virtuous I might try again when DH gets home so he can distract M.

Don't know, Scream, but maybe someone else will. Good luck with it!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2012 11:54

Oh and Too AF is still horrendous over here. Second pair of pyjamas utterly destroyed. Soooooooooo gutted AF is back while I'm still ebf and still have oversupply issues!! On the plus side I'm hoping this will help when I try to smack a rat next year according to a strict timetable to maximise my maternity leave

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 27/08/2012 11:56

x-posts Too. Level 2 is HARD!! I tried it a few times before ending my diet, and it nearly killed me! Need to psyche myself back up for getting into it all over again once DD's fully ff after our hol.

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2012 12:00

My first two afs (mine came back at after 3 months despite ebf) were awful awful awful scream but the last one I had was ok. Feeling for you!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 12:22

Can I just say ewwwwwww at banana poo? It's 2 days since M ate the banana and she just produced the most horrendous poo with actual solid bits. I can cope with bm poos because they're just yellow slime, but I'm not at all keen on yellowy-black semi-solid poos. Not looking forward to this aspect of weaning at all! Less than 2 weeks to go until we're all systems go on weaning and we still don't have a high chair or a sippy cup.

pommedechocolat · 27/08/2012 15:22

Did you get the little black worms?? That scared the bejeesus out of em the first time dd1 had banana.

Food poos do not smell of sweet hay like bm poos. they smell decidedly of poo.

PetWoman · 27/08/2012 15:32

Biscuits and Dream I'm kind of relieved that it's not just my DS who's fussy on the boob sometimes. Biscuits any chance you could express before going out and then bottle feed while out? I'm finding bad feeds are so stressful that added to my worries about DS's weight I'm sort of looking forward to when he's weaned, even though I like bfing. :(

Brew and hugs for those who've had bad nights. Will you forgive an insensitive boast? DS was amazingly good last night. He did 8.15pm to 7am with a short feed at 4.30. He was in his own room for the whole night and I didn't have to get up once to put the dummy in or resettle him. I was actually happy to get up at 7 because I'd had a virtually undisturbed night, and because DS got up a bit earlier, he's had a long nap today and I've baked a marmalade cake! It's in the oven now - hope it comes out ok...

Wants3 · 27/08/2012 16:15

scream I was lucky that D took to the bottle and formula ok for his top ups.We use aptimil. I would just give it to her as if it were ebm as you already have the advantage that she is used to taking a bottle.Do you warm the expressed milk? If so maybe do the same with formula.

I have spent the morning stripping wall paper in our bedroom and I can feel my neck and arm muscles aching already:(

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 17:18

Yay, M finally, finally rolled from back to side! It's not quite there, but it's progress. She then sat unsupported holding a toy for 5 seconds (proper Mississippi seconds) before lurching sideways. The rolling and the sitting were both inspired by the same toy (stuffed kiwi PIL brought back from NZ). It's all go here! Grin

Pet, Envy. I think as punishment for boasting you should send all the rest of us marmalade cake! Mmm, marmalade cake.

PetWoman · 27/08/2012 17:27

Clever M! Yay for the kiwi toy! :)

Rubber and Scream boo to AF! Hope it buggers orf asap. Am not looking forward to mine turning up.

Scream we just gave DS a bottle of formula (Aptamil) one day and he was fine with it. He was already used to expressed bm from the fridge. I'm sure your DD will be ok.

The marmalade cake is iced but not yet tasted. If it's acceptable I'll hand round some slices for sampling, Too.

RubberBullets · 27/08/2012 17:28

Well done M! time to run Mummy ragged now

Pet glad to hear about your good night and productive day. DD went from 8:30 to 6:30 last night. She goes through the night most nights now and has done since 10 weeks. I think getting AF now is my punishment for getting sleep :)
