Lots of X posts in the time it took me to get that written!

I had ignored the fact that your phone was joining in on making your day one of crapness LMF, and it did seem to excel itself last night - is it insured? Could you loose it down the toilet Grin ?

Glad to hear that Rocco was OK HLC; DS has a little bruise on his forehead atm, owing to headbutting the cot!

Still napping & he's not been fed in over an hour Hmm which brings me neatly on to all your impressive dc's routines. Do ff babies just feed less often? Or do I just have a greedy baby :) He's become very snacky & distracted during the day but has bf every hour-ish during the day (more often lately with the heat) & every hour at night unless he's not had much during the day & then he stays latched pretty much all night >_< We're bedsharing so it's not like I don't get any sleep but I do wake up feeling dehydrated. The other morning after an early night I woke feeling dreadful & said to dp that ds must've stayed latched from 8-7 & he said "is that why your boobs look like wrung out teabags" Oh the glamour ;) I envy your underwire Oi, I keep checking out the Agent Provocateur online sale but I do love bfing so pretty lacy things will have to wait for now.

Rocco's really taken to his food more this past couple of weeks; he loves cream cheese on ricecakes & spicy beanburger fingers made from a recipe I got from a friend. I was unsure as they've got lots of garlic & spices including chilli powder but he loves them & they're a great antidote to constipation ;) He's also loving anything green, spinach rocket & broccoli all go down well. I've tried lots of different things for breakfast but he just doesn't seem too bothered first thing in the morning.

I think I here him...back later

OiMissus · 29/07/2012 13:00

Catching up... honey BOi isn't too bothered about breakfast, but at any other time of the day will eat anything -especially anything off my plate. He very much enjoyed the veg from my spicy stir fry on Friday after I licked off the chilli.Hmm
northern you asked if we'd be ok financially without DH's income and with the new big mortgage... We'll manage, but a bit more frugally I think. If things get tight, I can ask my parents for some short term assistance, so I'm not going to panic or add to DH's pressure.
Thanks for the car seat info honey, maybe I'll look for a bigger rear facing seat. You don't see so many about, but I'm sure google will find something.
seven no teeth here yet either.
Opening ceremony - I enjoyed it, but wonder what in earth anyone in other countries thought about it!! We fought so hard to stay awake, we even survived all the flags and made-up countries, but we fell just before the finish when Seb Coe started. DH and I woke up when it was all over, so had to watch it on TiVo the next morning.
figgy did your friend do the IronMan here in Bolton? They ran along the top of our road, and along the canal that we can see from our balcony. Smile
kate and lmf glad your Los are feeling better. Gotta go, gotta hunt down some lunch!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 29/07/2012 13:07

Honey glad to hear Rocco is okay. yes Sky was one of the babies who fell off but is fine. Smile

Re BM & FF your GP's have no idea what they are yapping on about!

Would name check but on iPad and to hungry to focus at mo! Grin

Figgygal · 29/07/2012 14:31

Afternoon all

Oi no I think it was in Hampshire he did the triathlon he was 17th out of 100+ so was quite chuffed and we celebrated greatly last night despite the disappointment of the Road race (which was watched in the sun on a big screen) DS did amazingly at PIL last night picked him up this morning and he was all smiles and bouncing. It was very strange getting up this morning and him not being here but I hope we can do it occasionally as some time just with dh can't hurt. Also came home with a first baby slide from sil it's pink but hey he won't mind I'm sure.

He has just devoured cucumber stick, some mixed veg, a strawberry and his 1st chocolate biscotti biscuit I think he'd have kept going if I hadnt stopped him he seems to have no off switch.

Nice to hear from you Air
glad u enjoyed your hen do DSM how was wicked?
Hlc love your new carrier on the fb picture
Another vote for ignoring your dr lmf I can't believe the Stoopid things supposed health care professionals come out with

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 29/07/2012 14:34

Figgy Nice that you had time with just DH. You do need that once in a while.

Wicked was absolutely fantastic. I 'm going to take Darcie at some point. The 2 main characters had fabulous singing voices, will be Darcie one day hopefullyGrin

LittleMissFlustered · 29/07/2012 16:11

Question for folk with intolerances or allergies. How long from ingesting your trigger food to the pain/digestive pyrotechnics? One theory for the vile nappies is a reaction to something he's eating, despite eating very little. He swiped my spoon over lunchtime to gnaw on today, and about five/ten minutes later howled in pain and then produced a very disgusting nappy-filler:( Problem is my spoon had ice cream on it:( I realise it's a long shot, but thought I'd ask:/

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 29/07/2012 17:08

LMF In my experience allergies are an instant thing. Darcie couldn't have bananas early on as brought her out in hives Sad Only now do I buy the little ones from the supermarket for her to have, as her intolerance isn't as bad but tbh she's not keen on banana anyway due to knowing what it does to her. Also some babies can grow out of their intolerances/allergies as they grow.

Stay away from ice-cream and try again in about a week and if the same happens again you know it's the ice-cream Smile

LittleMissFlustered · 29/07/2012 18:10

I didn't intentionally give him it, he just snagged my spoon and it still had some on:(

GeeandTee · 29/07/2012 19:12

I'm not 100% sure but I think a true allergy shows within a few hours whereas an intolerance tends to take longer to have a reaction to? Has he had cow's milk in anything else? He is ebf isn't he? Can you cut out cow's milk (inc cheese/yoghurt etc) for a week and then reintroduce and look out for any signs?

GeeandTee · 29/07/2012 19:15

PS DD swiped a mouthful of ice-cream off DS's cone last week. DS was not impressed, but obviously DD had been unimpressed that I gave her just a cone to chew on! It made a great photo though, two little blond curly-haired children with ice-cream moustaches :)

seven77 · 29/07/2012 19:27

lmf Eva's intolerance takes around 12 hours for her to start being grizzly, and about 20 hours for her to reach the screaming stage :(. I agree just wait a few days then check again.

LittleMissFlustered · 29/07/2012 19:43

When I can get my laptop plugged in I might go ask in the health boards too.

NorthernChinchilla · 29/07/2012 20:58

DS had his first ice cream today too; looked mightily unimpressed with the coldness for a few seconds, and then see ^^^ for what happened next- Labrador eyes, raptor dance, demanding more. People were laughing as we wheeled past at the way he'd wail when he wasn't being fed it in time Confused. We were only giving him tiny bits, and he's been out of sorts because of the teething, poor thing. Calpol has been our friend...

It may just be that it's chalked up to that medical catch-all LMF, 'just one of those things'. Was it just the once or has he had more blood in his nappies? I really hope so, but worth trying to do the process of elimination though. Hope you're feeling OK about the bf too, following the unhelpful doc.

I found that DS only took 100-150 ml when bf Honey, but increased the amount when ff/bottle fed. He probably fed every hour or so during the day for the first few months, but then when he decided to nap regularly the frequency of the bf dropped (at about 12 weeks) to about seven in the day and a couple at night.

Mind you, he still gets two bf and three bottles, and then three meals, so we're still at the shovelling-nutrition-down-him-every-two-hours-stage that we were three months ago Grin!

DP has now confirmed- less than 24 hours before we go up North- that none of his friends are free on the Saturday, so we've got another free, full day to throw into the mix.
I could cheerfully throttle him

OP posts:
DeterminedandSpecialMum · 29/07/2012 21:02

Northern Hahaha about the wailing!

19 days to go Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 29/07/2012 21:16

Grin yes, he was in a bit of a state pre-nap, sore mouth, and going for the 'if food exists around me, it's mine- WHY ARE THEY NOT FEEDING IT TO ME?!'

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAIL

Nyom nyom ice cream.

Repeat.

We quickly found somewhere to sit and gave him his bottle, lest we look like the worst parents around Grin!

OP posts:
seven77 · 29/07/2012 22:18

northern you can't look like the worst parents, that's me. DD is the worlds grumpiest baby, she still spends a large part of the day whinging, crying or screaming Hmm. I'm used to the awful looks I get now.

I'm hoping Eva will sleep well tonight, she consumed vast quantities of cottage pie earlier. I even smuggled carrots into it for veggie hating DS benefit :o

LittleMissFlustered · 29/07/2012 22:19

He's got a routine appointment with his consultant tomorrow so I'll ask him for some advice. I'm also going to make an informal complaint about the peadiatric doctor on the PASSU, as his advice was very outdated.

Right, away to bed, another manic week ahead:s

BeeMyBaby · 29/07/2012 22:38

gee DD2 is suffering from separation anxiety as well, and cries like she is going to die if she looks for me and can't find me - doesn't bode well for my return to work on Wednesday...

I have to say its started to get really fun having two, yesterday they were chasing each other around the room Grin

aethelfleda · 29/07/2012 22:56

lmf, I seem to remember there are 4 different types of allergic reaction: type 1 is immediate (peanut/shellfish allergy, the anaphylaxis type) and happens 0-15 mins from exposure, there's a
Huge histamine reponse and it's v dramatic.. Type 2 is quick , and occurs within minutes- a few hours (like hives from egg/ strawberries/kiwi/banana), type 3 and 4 are delayed (like cows milk protein allergy) and occur in several hours-a few days.

A stimulus like icecream leading to a big poo is not an allergic/intolerance type picture really, but you may have activated something called the gastro-colic reflex (stuff in the top stimulates the bowel to move) and in some babies this reflex can be forceful and quite uncomfortable. Maybe that's what it was?? A similar thing occurs when you give baby a feed/bottle and then just as theybare halfway through they strain and fill their nappy with a'poosplosion... Hope Octoboy is Ok overnight.

seven77 · 29/07/2012 22:57

LMF I'm pleased you're going to make a complaint. It's only by being challenged about it that will stop them giving out incorrect 'advice'.

bee definitely separation anxiety over here too. I know what you mean about having two, they're so cute together, especially when Eva goes crawling out of the front room into the hallway and DS goes crawling after her.

aethelfleda · 29/07/2012 23:26

Ps good idea to chat to the paediatric dr tomorrow when you see them. (and def mention the ropy breastmilk comment: if nothing else the dr needs to be made aware that their viewpoint is dated so they can educate themselves about it for the future. This is politely termed a "learning need" and will do good in the long run as you'll stimulat them to plug that hole.

OiMissus · 30/07/2012 07:41

Hey Northern if you're free on saturday, I know where there's a party. The table tennis table will be up, and there'll be Olympic petanque, I can bet, and Olympic 10 pin bowling. :)
BOi loves ice cream. He had it in Somerset, off Grandad's cone, and once he'd had the taste it had to be one taste for Granddad, one for BOi, one for GD one for BOi.. if GD had 2 tastes, BOi was distraught!
LMF definitely say something.
"Gastro Colic reflex" so that's what it's called when I feed him, and he gazes into my eyes, and then his eyes get bigger, and then parpity-parp squee-eeze. Nice.
Had a great weekend at Ashworth Towers. The excitement of th'olympic ceremony, then we had friends around for a BBQ and table tennis on Saturday, and yesterday there were 4 couples and 4 babies in my lounge, the youngest was 8 weeks, and the eldest 2 1/2. It was interesting to see BOi intereact. Interact is rather a grand word for defend his toys, get jealous of another baby with his mum, and try to prize the lion-face soft shoes off the baby girl.
This morning I got into work v early , as I didn't have to get BOi ready. He stayed in bed with DH who still has no idea what's happening at work.
I have had my Rice Krispies, I now need a coffee. have a good day y'all. :)

NorthernChinchilla · 30/07/2012 07:57

Oh seven, that must be so disheartening. It's (relatively) easy parenting when they're chilled out, but if by the luck of the draw you get one who's not a happy bunny, it's so tough on everyone.

I'm sure that half the looks are the sympathetic 'been in the trenches too', and the other half should keep their ignorant beaks out.

And from what I read on the boards on MN, it seems that all offspring have a period of this, whether it's as a baby, toddler, pre-teen, teen, etc, so hopefully Eva's just getting her's out of the way early.

Now you're all mentioning it, I'm going to have to have at least one more to see them play together Grin!

Cheers Oi; my mother would have ab-dabs if we disappeared off to Manchester the day before we left and my Captain Fluffyhead would have total hair envy of BOi but we'll have to tie in a visit up North to come by Ashworth Towers!
I'm excited that I'm going to get to take DS to baby group today, and watch him interact, can't wait Grin! Then we'll have to pack up the entire house and head off....
