Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DreamingOfPeace · 17/07/2012 10:19

No, I'm just too tired to write anything worth reading too . S driving me wild. Won't sleep more than two hours at night, screams if put down in the day. I'm despairing...

Jabs today. Got to take them by myself so just dreading the part where S is put down afterwards and howls, plus poor B is getting totally ignored :(

DreamingOfPeace · 17/07/2012 10:21

Oh, and S was in with me, doesn't really work as he still wakes all the time plus gets woken when i get B to feed, hence an hour of standing by their cot picking each up in turn to stop them crying and waking DD and dh, as never got to hold either for long enough to get them settled... Gah

jaggythistle · 17/07/2012 10:51

I'm too sleepy to try French, currently passing through Yorkshire anyway. Grin Only about 5 hours to go...

holiday was great apart from all the bleeding rain. what a week we picked.

DS1 absolutely loved it though, so I'm glad DH talked me into it. it was hard work keeping a toddler happy, full and not too sleepy or bored for meltdowns. managed to take just enough wee bribes distraction presents to avert disaster. DS2 was fine, loved the new pram and was just a hungry wee monkey. think he's been fed outside every ride in the park!

looking forward to getting home!

busy day tomorrow, DS2 has 3-4 month check and 2nd jabs tomorrow.

will try to get on and catch up properly later. can't remember half of what i just read. yawn.

brooking for some rest in the dream household :(

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 17/07/2012 11:39

Oh Dream. Sad Won't there be someone else who could hold a baby there, though? Both times I took M in for her jabs there was a student nurse in the room as well as the HV/staff nurse/whoever it was doing the actual jabbing. Brooking for S to improve. Where are you on the Gaviscon/Ranitidine/whatever for him? Can you get the stuff that Pomme has? I forget what it's called.

Jaggy, hope the rest of the journey flies by! Glad you had a lovely time and DS1 enjoyed himself. Smile

Tried the no-light thing last night and it went really well. M woke up at 2.30 and I got her out of the basket in the dark and then realised I wouldn't be able to see her eyes to check she was asleep, so put the light on. Then I decided I was being stupid because if she was still and peaceful and not sucking then she would be asleep and turned it off again and sure enough, managed to get her back down without incident. Don't know if it was a coincidence, but she slept much better last night - 9.30-2.30; then not up again until 6.30. I couldn't sleep, annoyingly! And at 1am I heard a rustling from the kitchen and went through to find that the dog had knocked the bin over and spread its contents all over the floor. Angry I couldn't even shout at him loudly in case I woke M! Bloody animal. I must get better at shutting the kitchen door last thing. I do feed him, by the way!

Wants3 · 17/07/2012 15:17

I have tried to put D in the ergo a couple of times but am struggling to put it on with the newborn insert. Anyone else used this or got any tips?
D has been really sicky again today, several changes of clothes and muslins because it goes everywhere! It catches me out too as it's not always straight after he has fed!

scarletfingernail · 17/07/2012 22:09

Wants I find it easier to do the waistband up first, the lay the insert down flat to put DD in. On table at home or parcel shelf of car if out. I don't pull either of the shoulder straps up until DD is in the insert against my chest. I think the instructions advise to pull one shoulder strap up first? I then pull up the shoulder straps, but support DD with my left hand while fastening the shoulder clip with my right. If DH is around I still get him to help me because I think it's awkward to do alone. But I can manage it now after lots of practice. I have DD's legs straight downwards at the moment rather than poking out either side at the moment. She seems most comfortable like that. Hope I've helped?

Too I think the HV was concerned because it looks like DD's dropping lower down the centile, even with the formula top up. She's still on the same centile but borderline dropping iyswim.

Hope the jabs went ok Dream? I was brooking for you.

Glad your DS1 enjoyed himself Jaggy. Are you home now?

scarletfingernail · 17/07/2012 23:39

Didn't see Babies In The Office Too, was it any good? Might have a look on catch up if it's worth it?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 17/07/2012 23:48

It was interesting - basically, they got 8 parents to bring their kids into a call centre environment. There were some babies and some toddlers. The toddlers were just bored and grumpy and out of sorts and needed to be entertained all the time, so their parents' productivity was way down. Most of the babies were okay, but honestly, what would you do if the baby just cried and cried? Some businesses in America let you bring your baby in, but one place they looked at was the Department of Health, so not a call centre and probably without too many phone calls which the baby might interrupt, and they only allowed babies up to 6 months old. Toddlers were a no-no. I don't see it working, to be honest. And I know some people don't get much in the way of maternity pay or don't qualify for SMP, but I don't think this is a viable alternative. Someone over on the Telly Addicts thread about it said that it backed up the idea that motherhood isn't a job, if they can expect you to do a full-time job at the same time as look after your child.

M refusing to sleep or feed. V grumpy (her, not me!) Sleep tight, everyone, especially Dream!

jaggythistle · 18/07/2012 06:09

we got home at tea time scarlet, poor DS1 was foraging in the cupboards for food while we emptied the car! 2 loads of washing done, could be about 3 more...

i was joking about lots of sleep when DS2 figured out thumb sucking, but he did seem to want feeding more like every 3 hours than 2 last night. he is very cute but noisy when he finds a thumb!

i struggle to make a 2 minute phone call with these 2 about, let alone work! in my case i doubt I'd be allowed to take them in and put tiny lab coats on them :-D

right, better see if i can get this one back in the crib.

number of times I've had to get DH to turn over and not snore, approx.4695168721.

DreamingOfPeace · 18/07/2012 06:47

Last minute reprieve from solo jabs as a friend got back from an appointment earlier than expected. Phew.

DT2 has just slept through. 8:30pm til now, and still asleep, just stirring Shock . Shame about f*ing DT1 and his 1-2 hourly antics... Bad, bad baby. I'm fed up with him and his sleep and constant screaming if not held!!!!

I'm putting the twins in my sling with a leg out each side now, have been for a week or so though think I'm a bit early (started 13 ish weeks) but much better already n they're 15 weeks today :)

DreamingOfPeace · 18/07/2012 06:48

Yay for being home jaggy glad it was good despite rain :) :)

jaggythistle · 18/07/2012 07:45

we have jabs today too, might have to take him myself if it looks like DS1 will be asleep. also this morning we've a '3-4 month assessment'. got a letter the day before we left saying that a public health nurse (not usual HV) wanted to come to the house. can't remember it with DS1 so we'll see what it's about.

must be so frustrating with one DT sleeping so well dream! Although R slept better, a lot of it was on my knee as i fell asleep.

must try the trick again of setting a timer on my phone to wake me up and put him in his crib!

PetWoman · 18/07/2012 08:12

Welcome home Jaggy! Sounds like a good time was had by all. :)

Brilliant sleeping from Ben, Dream - well done him! Hope Seb settles into a better pattern soon...

PFB moment: DS got me a free cup of coffee at King's Cross on Monday! The girl in the cafe said it was on the house because he was so cute! :)

He's being weighed on Monday. Fingers crossed...

Biscuitsandtea · 18/07/2012 08:41

Brooking for all those with jabs - good luck Smile

Dream glad B slept well last night. S will get there too (have I got them the right way round? I get confuddled with the DT1/2 thing Blush). I know it is scarce comfort but it must be easier to only have one of them to deal with at a time? So glad your friend could get along to your jab appointment in the end! Hooray! How are the three of them doing with the HFM now? Hoping it's all gone now xx

Biscuitsandtea · 18/07/2012 08:57

Scarlet brooking for dd to at least stay steady on the centile, if not go up a bit. It may not be anything as a one off measurement because they do fluctuate around a centile normally, so next time she might have gone marginally up again (fingers crossed! Smile) but obviously it's worth the HV keeping an eye. Did the HV have any suggestions or are they just going to see what happens next time she's weighed? When will that be?

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 18/07/2012 09:26

Brooking for weighing and jabs for all.

Yay for Ben, come on Seb now :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 18/07/2012 11:01

Also No Brooking for weighing and jabs for all!

Dream I think S had a really good night a little while ago, is that right? Now B's had a good night. Soon they'll both be having good nights so regularly that the good nights will naturally start to overlap! Hang in there, this is the light at the end of the tunnel!

DD had her 12 week jabs this morning. I practically cried on the way to the GP's because I was so nervous for her, but as usual she was far braver than me! She cried, but not as stridently as last time, and she calmed down within two minutes of the second injection even without being fed Shock. By the time I was pulling her trousers up she was fine! Such a trooper she must get it from DH because I'm a total wuss with injections

Hope all the other mini No Brookers have smooth appointments today as well!

JenFraggle · 18/07/2012 12:39

I was told that I would receive an appointment in the post for DD's jabs when I had the 6 week check. Today I receive a letter telling me I need to make an appointment at the Dr. Why couldn't the Dr have told me that at the time and I would have done it then Confused

scarletfingernail · 18/07/2012 12:47

Brooking for all the jabs today. Well done to Scream's DD for being so brave Smile

I've had a lovely morning with DD. We dropped DS at pre-school then headed into town where I sat in Costa Coffee for a whole hour BFing DD, sipping a latte and reading Grazia. It was blissful! Got to go and collect DS now so chaos will soon be resumed...

On that note, wtf am I going to do with him for 6 weeks? Shock
He breaks up on Friday and it's me, him and DD for 6 weeks solid. Let's brook for some sunshine or I'm seriously stuffed.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 18/07/2012 12:56

Angry at stupid GP surgeries! You've reminded me to phone and chase M's last set of jabs - she's 18+5 today and no appt for her 16 week jabs yet. They're due at 20 weeks because the last set were so late. I got an appt for the HV to come out to the house on 1 Aug, Jaggy. Maybe that's the same assessment you're getting. except that M will be nearly 5 months by then, so if it's a 3/4 month assessment they're a bit off

Dream, yay for Ben! What a little star. Now, Bad Bat Baby Brother, you need to watch and learn! By the way, Dream, am I right in thinking that they sleep in the same cot? Does S disturb B with his nightly shenanigans? Or is S spending so much time in with you that it doesn't figure? Oh, and how do you manage to put both in the sling? Might you post a picture at some point, if it's not too much bother?

Good for A, Scream! Brave little girl. M was much braver with her second jabs than her first. I have noticed that if she hurts herself or I dunt her head off the swing seat thingy then she only cries for a minute and then calms down again. If she's crying because she's tired or hungry then it goes on for much longer!

Brooking for Scarlet's DD and Pet's DS to have done some good growing by the next time they get weighed.

Good luck today, Jaggy! Grin at tiny lab coats - sounds adorable! I could probably take M into work because I don't talk directly to the public, but I'm not sure much work would be done although nothing new there. And once she gets more mobile, forget it! Anyway, I don't want to be only giving her a little bit of attention and freaking out when she cries in case she was disturbing other people. If they brought back subsidised creches that would be brilliant, but don't think babies in the office will catch on.

M is lying in her gym squeaking happily to herself, and has been for the last hour. This is excellent progress! I have managed to get the dishwasher on and tidy up the bombsite DH made of the kitchen and bung some chicken in the microwave to defrost. This is already streets ahead of yesterday in terms of progress! I need to brave the wind and rain and take M and dog for a walk, though. Have been putting it off because it looks so miserable out there. Mmm, I think I'll make lunch first.

jaggythistle · 18/07/2012 13:50

hi all.

My wee chubster has been weighed measured and jabbed. happily following roughly the 75th centile. most of his weight is thighs i think.

i was a bit nervous for jabs, but only because the baby before R was absolutely screaming! the nurse did come out and say that she was screaming when she went in though. my poor baby got a rude awakening, as he was asleep for his jabs. they have 2 people to do both at once so it's over with quickly.

just found out that my dad was in hospital the whole time i was away. :( He already has heart probs so it was the same kind of thing, he got taken in an ambulance with chest pains. he's out now and ok on new drugs. i was totally Shock when my mum told me! just glad he seems to be better and has had lots more tests while he was in.

scarletfingernail · 18/07/2012 14:00

Oh no Jaggy Brooking for a speedy recovery for your Dad. Is he home now? I can see why no one told you though, it would have spoiled your holiday and there's nothing you could have done. My Grandma died while I was on holiday and no one told be about it until I got home. I was obviously upset when I found out, but also a bit relieved it was kept from me as I wouldn't have known what to do. I didn't miss the funeral, I'd have been very annoyed if that had been the case.

scarletfingernail · 18/07/2012 14:47

So after Biscuits kindly linked the list of authorised stockists for the Ergo, I had a major minor panic when I saw who I bought mine from wasn't on it! Although it completely matches the descrption of the genuine ones compared to a fake, obviously I wanted to check. Firstly I e-mailed the company who sold it and they sent one back aying yes it's genuine, yes they're authorised yada yada yada. They also said the'd contact Ergo and the UK distributors to get them added to the list. I was a bit Hmm about it still, so e-mailed the UK distibutors myself. It transpires that my Ergo is genuine, they are an authorised stockist but they shouldn't be trading in the UK! So I'm relieved obviously that I've not got a fake, but also very surprised that Amazon wouldn't check that out when they're actually advertising it as fulfilled by Amazon.

As if it's not been confusing enough already!

Biscuitsandtea · 18/07/2012 14:51

I thought First Signs were on the list Scarlet? Was that who you got it from? Confused
