Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pommedechocolat · 11/07/2012 10:25

Oh dream how utterly miserable. Can you not use nurofen too?then you can alternate doses to keep them a bit happier? A gp once told me to save a dose of calpol and nurofen from the day for bedtime and give them together! not sure of the ethics but it always made dd sleep when ill

Seeing GP at 11.10. I refused the first app as it was a gp I know is crap. i seem to know them all down there now Blush. I just want someone to tell me medically if I should wean early (yes, I think now biscuits she's 19.5 weeks) to help with reflux or if they really think she's cmpi whether I should wait a bit in case of allergies. We have no allergies in the family though. Also need some drug/dosage advice.

Creaming off accounts is quite apt for the BASP plan :)

jaggythistle · 11/07/2012 11:01

mornin all.

DS1 only fell out of bed once Grin luckily it was the one time DS2 chose to sleep a bit in the cot so i was able to jump out and scoop him up. he didn't really even wake up. just looked a bit puzzled and said "oops" and let me tuck him back in.

i think DS2 spent about 2 hours total in cot. mostly because i kept falling asleep though.

breakfast a lot calmer so DH a bit chilled.

just reading up on my French a bit while driving. staying at hotel a bit south of Calais tonight. have taught DS1 to say bonjour so far...

hope GP helps pomme

brooking lots for you dream. think you need a special bug exclusion zone round your house, it's so unfair the amount your wee ones are getting!

hope you're better soon ninja, brooking for fast recovery.

have forgotten rest i wanted to say and phone almost out of charge, so general other brooking for all

scarletfingernail · 11/07/2012 11:55

Sad Dream nothing to say really. Just fed up on your behalf Sad I hope they're all over the worst and that you manage to get some rest yourself.

Jaggy I was thinking about you yesterday, imagining a National Lampoon type trip. It does seem rather an epic journey Grin Hope you have an easy day of it today.

Good luck with the GP Pomme. Sorry you had such a shite day yesterday. I yell at my DH all the time frequently and then feel terrible about it. Until the next time...

Biscuits glad you've come to a decision. I got round to calling our church this week to arrange DD's. It took 6 months to sort out DS's from when I first enquired. We went to some group sessions about Baptism at the Vicarage and had home visits from the Vicar just to be sure it was definitely what we wanted to do. Hopefully we won't have to be interrogated again go through it all again this time.

Had my GP appointment this morning and he was lovely,if a bit keen to get rid of me quickly, I barely sat down Grin. I'm being referred for some sort of therapy (hopefully CBT). He said there's quite a waiting list but that he was positive it could help me. I have to do something asap as I've got to the stage where every night I dread DS going to bed in case he wakes up puking. Ridiculous.

musicalmrs · 11/07/2012 12:25

Dream, you poor thing :( brooking that everyone in your household gets better soon - really hoping you have DH home to help you today.

Pomme, sorry you had such a rubbish day yesterday - and that paed appointment is so far away, how rubbish. Hope the GP you see today is really helpful and useful. Are you thinking of weaning early because of the reflux then? I thought Iz had gotten over hers, but she's worse again today. SHe doesn't seem to be anywhere near as bad as A though.

Too, I hope today goes as well as it can - thinking of you.

Biscuits, I'm glad you've made a decision. I'd have personally have gone the other way - but partly because I'm stubborn and wouldn't want someone else to win ;) Difficult when you've got one child already baptised though!

Jaggy and Hawthers, hope you're enjoying French France!

Ninja, you poor thing :( I hope the antibiotics are kicking in, and that things are getting better for you. Re sore nipples, have you tried icing before latching DD on? I haven't tried it myself, as it was recommended after I'd been through the worst of it, but someone suggested it to another new mum at my group last week and it made so much sense - it would have saved me a lot of tears during evening cluster feeds.

It's Day 2 of kitchen madness here. The old kitchen has been ripped out entirely, alongside all the tiling. It's incredibly noisy, and Iz will only sleep on my chest (or in the sling, as I've discovered today), and what with being confined to very few rooms (keeping her upstairs as downstairs is too noisy/dusty) and electric and water going on and off, there's not much I can do! Have actually managed to work on some music while she's been asleep this morning though, which has made a nice change!

DH is working from home tomorrow thankfully, so Iz and I can escape to greener pastures for a few hours.

She's also figured out how to flip over during the last couple of days. She can lift her head up very far during tummy time, and do the beginning of a mini press up. Yesterday she figured out that if she kicks just right, she can launch herself over, onto her side and then her back - so her favourite thing today has been to flip herself over as soon as I put her on her front, and smile and gurgle at me as if to say "I win!". Need a cunning plan..!

PetWoman · 11/07/2012 12:26

Biscuits fwiw I think you've made the right decision about the baptism. It makes your DM happy (which is kind) and doesn't hurt anyone except possibly your conscience a little bit. But I'm sure most parents making those vows do it with a pinch of salt iykwim. Plus being baptised means both DSs could be godparents in the future (if they are asked by someone whose vicar insists on it) but can also ignore it as adults if they choose.

Dream I do hope all your LOs get well soon. How can one get immunity to HF&M?

Hawthers and now Jaggy too, ca va? Hope il soleil brille and the vino flows muchly. And that Jaggy's DS1 has lots of fun! Well done for surviving the journeys.

Wants sounds good - well done all :)

Too hope your long drive has been smooth and the funeral goes as well as it can do. I'm sure M will be a delight. What did you both wear in the end? I'm still writing thank you letters - only about halfway through and DS is 14 weeks!

Oops, got to dash - taking cat to vet if I can catch him .

DreamingOfPeace · 11/07/2012 13:43

I have a wonderful image of cat chasing pet :) . Oh good, the dts are 14 weeks today and I'm about half way through too, thank you letters are such a guilt inspiring thing for me, at least everyone is similar stages writing them.

Well impressed Iz can flip over musical and a bit Envy of your new kitchen, though not the disruption and noise.. did you manage to make enough meals to freeze to see you through?

PetWoman · 11/07/2012 15:16

Back from vet. Cat was trapped and manhandled into his carry box without too much distress for me. Vet said hopefully problem was minor (blockage in tummy?) and he should be ok soon.

Pomme sorry to hear about A's distress and the slow appt. No brooking you get some useful advice in the meantime.

Ninja hello! Have a big Brew and lots of Biscuit and perhaps a small Wine . I hope you feel better soon. Excellent weight gain for your baby!

Scarlet hope you don't have to wait too long for your CBT. The anxiety sounds horrendous. :(

Musical clever Iz rolling over! DS shows no sign of that yet.

jaggythistle · 11/07/2012 21:20

bonsoir!

yay for free French hotel wifi. :)

we are in a super tiny room, but it's a friendly wee hotel and had nice dinner. which DS1 ate only a microscopic amount of because he was too tired.

he's almost asleep in his big bed, hope he doesn't fall out tonight. there's a travel cot wedged on one side due to small room though.

DS1 insisted on getting into the travel cot when he saw DS2 in it. have a nice pic of them both lying together. DS1 was saying to himself "baby R and baby M" it was v cute.

hoping to get more sleep tonight, need some energy for DLP.
unfortunately tomorrow might be the only day of half decent weather, we seem to have picked rain week. :(

scarletfingernail · 11/07/2012 21:51

Oh no Jaggy, brooking for some soleil for you. Your DS1 sounds very cute. I wonder if he has the same name as my DS (also begins with M)

jaggythistle · 12/07/2012 00:45

DS1's name is the one that is also measurement of distance scarlet. Wink

still in bed so far...

DS2 had a wee sleep in the cot there, back up to feed now. he seems to have been feeding like mad for nearly a week now.

Yuk. sounds like it's pouring rain outside.

had a wee panic earlier, thought they switched the wifi off at night but it's come back!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/07/2012 06:55

Your ds1 is called millimetre Jaggy? HmmWinkGrin

OP posts:
PetWoman · 12/07/2012 07:13

After 2 weeks of lots of night waking, DS went straight to sleep at 7.15pm and didn't stir till 4am for a feed. Then he slept again till now. That's sort of what he was doing before, so I really hope he sticks with this pattern for a bit. I did have to prod him at 3am just to check that he was alive... Blush

Jaggy DS1 sounds so cute! Hope you all slept well and get lots of sunshine today.

I too would love a new kitchen. Especially since we seem to have a slug problem in our current kitchen. I think they must live behind the cupboards or under the floor or something. We hardly ever see them to catch, but we wake up to glistening slug trails everywhere! So gross. I'm loath to put out slug pellets because it makes them die so messily, and I don't want to risk the pets eating the pellets. Any tips, anyone?!

scarletfingernail · 12/07/2012 07:28

Eeeeww Pet that's grim. We had to take a skirting board off in our kitchen a few years ago because of flying ants getting in. We found a hole in the brickwork and filled it with pva. Never had them since but we're still without skirting board!

I like that name Jaggy, I don't hear it much round these parts. My DS is a 3 letter name that starts with M and ends with X. (Giving up worrying about anonymity!)

pommedechocolat · 12/07/2012 08:06

What did you call dd then scarlet if all anonymity is gone??

No sleep and a huge leak in the living room ceiling over here!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/07/2012 08:11

Argh Pomme Shock

Oh noooooooooooo

Brooking that slugs and leaks be gone!

I have no idea how to tackle the slug problem - when we had a mouse we called the pest control at the council - might they be able to help or suggest something?

I also like Jaggy's DS1's name, but as Scarlet says you don't hear it much down here, which is a shame.

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 12/07/2012 08:50

ok,it`s a bit of a faff but ia am attempting to post from my kindle

that was kind of my criteria for dc names. a rreal name IYSWIM, but not used too often.

eek slugs!

we had no falling out of bed last night and R did a bit of sleeping in his French travel cot. a lot of panicking being done by DS1, we`re going torun out of wee toys to distract him! DH had to produce a couple of wee cars to calm him down for breakfast. awesome croissants, DS1 had biscuits and orange juice. Blush

scarletfingernail · 12/07/2012 09:11

Mmm croissants...

DD is Ava Smile

Yikes about the ceiling Pomme. Is that because of rain?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 12/07/2012 11:09

Mmm, croissants!

M rolled over! From front to back. She's done it twice this morning, but is currently on her tummy looking confused. Was v proud of her - then noticed that Musical's Iz can roll over and is much younger! M will be 17 weeks tomorrow.

Thanks for Ninja, Pomme and Dream for mastitis, reflux and h,f & m respectively. Brooking my arse off too...

Funeral went okay, as these things go. It was the first funeral I've been to since DD1's and it brought back a lot of memories. Luckily we were sitting right at the back in case M had to be taken out. I felt guilty because it wasn't DH's aunt I was crying for - I didn't know her very well. I didn't want anyone to think I was being a hypocrite, so I was glad no one could see me. M was really good and only made a few small noises, even though she was wide awake for most of it. She wore a white babygro with a little white smock covered in tiny silver stars in the end. after DH had dressed her in brown cargo trousers and a pink hoodie so she looked like a chav and I had politely pointed out the error of his ways Mum lent me a black wrapover dress from The White Company, which was perfect - knee-length and demure, and the wrap top meant I could just whip a boob out as required.

Knackered now, though - on Tues night M was up at least 5 times between 11.30pm and 7 am when we had to get up to get ready for the funeral. I heard the clock in PIL's living room strike 12, then 1, then 3, and I was up a couple more times after that as well. Then we did about 8 hours of driving yesterday, and finally got home at quarter to 1 this morning. M had slept from 9ish, then woke up once we were at home and wanted to play. Gah. I eventually got her to sleep at 2am, and then she was up at 4 and 6.45 and woke up at 9 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and clearly not going to go back to sleep. She's now feeding with her eyes shut so am hoping to get a nap.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/07/2012 12:06

Wow Too - yay for M's rolling over. No rolling here yet, although DS2 looked like he might fancy it rolling from back to front. To be honest he doesn't have much tummy time to practice front to back rolling because he's sick all the time!

Glad the funeral went ok, all things considered. But Thanks for it bringing back memories.

Aren't M and E 18 weeks old this week?

Brooking for assorted illnesses / conditions and sleeping through by all brooking babies xxx

I HAVE to go and make DS1 eat his sandwich - gah!

OP posts:
JenFraggle · 12/07/2012 12:10

Well done to M Too. Glad the funeral was bearable for you. Everyone is affected in different ways by them and you do have some memories which nobody should ever have to have.

Also brooking my huge arse off for all this illness to bugger off.

Well I was told that I had an over supply of milk at the start but DD is now feeding so much that I'm starting to run out. From having rock solid boobs that I needed to express a little before she could latch on, now I'm finding that I've got 2 deflated balloons and some feeds I'm having to offer both to be able to satisfy her. DD is 6 weeks now, is there anything I can do that avoids formula? I don't think expressing is an option as I seem to be struggling to make enough between feeds.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/07/2012 12:27

Jen I think offering both at each feed is quite common isn't it? Don't they say normally to offer one side, then wind or whatever and offer the other side and then the next time start on the side you offered second last time (iyswim). So it could just be your supply settling down if dd is 6 weeks ish?

I'm like you though in that normally ds1 only has one side at each feed normally. Unless he's having a growth spurt in which case he'll have some from both sides and then it does feel as though he doesn't have enough.

I would say though you probably don't need to worry about formula etc if she's still gaining weight and seems settled?

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 12/07/2012 13:12

Six weeks is a growth spurt time too jen and feeling like its not working is a classic growth spurt sign. Give it another few days and see if it calms down.

I love Ava scarlet and I think it's lovely that they both have three letter names. Matchy in a really stylish way!

A is 19.5 weeks and no rolling - I only have to go as if to put her on her tummy and she howls so basically we don't do tummy time... It's very unusual for a refluxer. Go m though too that's awesome!

Sorry to hear the funeral was hard for you, I would bet my life that noone there would face thought you were being hypocritical.

I am totally ignoring huge leak - dh can take that one on!

Dd1 is moving up at nursery, very relieved as she's needed to for a while now.

A calm in day which is amazing but still no sleep as she has the insomnia side effect of omeprazole... Bit rubbish!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 12/07/2012 13:59

Oops, DH has just counted and you're right, Biscuits, it is 18 weeks! Blush [bad mother emoticon] Where did I lose a week? Of course, I still keep thinking it's June, not July. That might have something to do with it.

M has only started doing tummy time properly recently with the acquisition of a play gym with light-up singing monkey. She'll watch the monkey sing on her tummy, practically nose to nose with it.

Ava and Max are lovely names, Scarlet!

Oh Pomme. Sad Brooking for A's insomnia to improve. Good for DD1 moving up! Does she get to do new stuff in the new room?

Yy to 6 week growth spurt feeling like your boobs are empty, Jen! M used to spend all evening cluster-feeding until both boobs felt completely empty and very sore. 4 hours a night Don't lose faith - you can do it!

musicalmrs · 12/07/2012 14:24

Jen, I've gone from only offering Iz one to offering her both most of the time for the same reason. She seems happy enough! I also had the cluster feeding thing up until recently Too. Odd though, I mentally moan about an hour at night, having forgotten about the every day evening five hour cluster feeds... is this nature blocking out all the bad bits to encourage us to have more children!?

Pet, Dream, scarlet and Too.. I'm not sure if it's a proper roll! More of a flip/fall? She's definitely mastered it though, whatever it is - she's successfully gotten out of each attempt at tummy time today (about 5 tries)! She can do quite an impressive sort of mini press-up too. It's all down to Dream really - as after she went on about the importance of tummy time I've been doing it lots every day - plus she loves cuddling up to us, popping her head up and looking around. I also relayed Dream's words of wisdom to my DH and he does it with her lots too. She's 8wks today scarlet.

Glad your cat's doing ok Pet. Reminds me, must book up jabs for my two. One of them came up and licked Iz's ear earlier! (I suspect I'd missed some dribbled milk...).

Too, hurrah for M :) And I'm glad the funeral and subsequent travel went as ok as it could, even if her sleep was rubbish. I remember a similar funeral, in that it was a friend's Dads, but I was mourning something else while there. Problem was I was playing the organ. Difficult to cry and play Jerusalem.. (easier to cry and play Abide With Me).

Pet, slugs - YICK!!! There are a lot of slugs where we are - counted 15 in the garden the other day! Yick yick yick. Thankfully none in the kitchen, but we did find an ants nest under a drain cover in there when trying to sort it out - horrible :S

Pomme, sorry to hear about the insomnia - you and A really need a break :(

Dream, how're your DCs doing? Hope the H, F&M is clearing up..?

Well, the kitchen people are now running behind - was meant to be completed Mon-Fri this week, they started on Tues and are looking like they'll work on Sat and Monday too. On the plus side, it's looking good so far. On the negative side, our electrics were found to be Very Illegal (DIY bodge job again!), and power's gone to half the kitchen as a result, so we're having to pay more to get that sorted :( still, best to do it right I suppose. Maybe I'll post a picture when it's done! The old kitchen was a real DIY bodge job - wonky cupboard doors, not sealed properly (horrible gaps between worksurface and tiles, and sooo not clean), teeny tiny fitted oven, broken drawers, taps that were both back to front and hot and cold feeds the wrong way round.... it's a shame, as it was probably reasonably new, but just done in a shocking way.

Still, it's getting there! Really disturbing Iz though, and after a very refluxy disturbed night last night, she's struggling today :( seems to be having short naps after each feed, and feeding lots.. on the plus side it's giving me plenty of time to do bits and bobs on the computer. Signed up for another set of baby massage classes today, so I hope one of them starts up soon and lets me on...

Does anyone have any recommendations for baby swimsuits? Hoping to do some swimming with Iz soon - only a short local course. They have a very warm pool, but some relatives have a swimming pool, so the plan is to learn the basics and be confident handling her in water, then swim lots with family :) The family's pool is lower in chlorine (good) but also lower in temperature (bad), hence the need for a swim suit. Anyone got one they'd recommend? :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 12/07/2012 14:32

Musical, M has the blue one of these. It's a bit fiddly to put on, but I assume it keeps her warmer than just a swimming costume would. I signed M up for swimming lessons too but they don't start until 6 months, so we've got a while to wait.

Hope you get your kitchen sorted soon - bet it looks lovely when it's done.

Sad at crying playing the organ.
