Salve Pet. Caecilius est in horto. Metella est in triclinium. Happy birthday for yesterday just pretend that was in Latin

Boo to AF (whether pretend or not) Wants

Boo to Biscuits still coughing

Wants3 · 09/07/2012 12:05

waits for DS1 to come home to translate Jens post
D has put on.....1 whole oz! Hv suggested offering a few ozs of formula after bf. :( I have his 6 week check booked for next monday when he will be 8 weeks, just 2 days before his first jabs.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/07/2012 12:14

Yay for Jaggy being off steroids, but Brooking for iron levels to rise!

I am totally incapable of translating either Pet or Jen's posts. Help, someone!

Wants, I take it you don't want to resort to formula from your sad face. Have you thought about expressing to top up? That would be just as good as topping up with formula - better, in fact, because it would keep your supply up. Topping up via syringe is easy after the first couple of attempts and takes no effort on the baby's part. I could post you the syringes the MW gave me for M if you PM me your address. Sounds like he's sleeping really well, so he surely can't be hungry. Maybe he's just a baby who gains weight slowly. Confused

pommedechocolat · 09/07/2012 12:20

I did GCSE Latin and speak Italian and I got Grumio is in the kitchen and then Hello Pet, Caecilius is in the (garden). Metella is in (the hall)????

I agree with Too wants - I'd try ebm first as a top up if you're feeling down about formula.

He IS gaining still.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/07/2012 12:38

Meant to say Happy Birthday, Pet!

Have just rubbed baby oil into M's head as she had dry flaky skin. Her little pale fluff looks all bedraggled! Not sure whether the dry skin is a reaction to being in the hot car for ages yesterday - the air con doesn't work, so the air was hot and dry.

DreamingOfPeace · 09/07/2012 12:38

I agree pomme, though I didn't know what kitchen is! I did Latin until age 14 as I was rubbish, back then I just didn't see the point in a 'dead' language Spanish and French to gcse level but I can barely remember any

Seb has a temp now too :(

pommedechocolat · 09/07/2012 12:39

Oh no dream, brooking for quick recoveries - that's all you need.

scarletfingernail · 09/07/2012 13:19

Oh no Dream brooking little S is ok. How's DD today?

Wants I know how you feel about offering formula. I do some small formula top ups now with DD. I was very upset that she's not EBF any more, but I'm over it now and it is a relief to know that she's not losing any more weight. She switches from one to the other just fine and is much more settled. I'm not at all saying I think you should do the same, just saying don't beat yourself up if you end up deciding to do it. I think all of us on here agree that EBF is the ideal, but not all of us have found it easy and these babies do need to be fed somehow!

DD has now decided she doesn't want to sleep in the day. She sleeps in the car for the 30 minutes in total collecting DS from nursery, maybe has 10 minutes or so at the end of each BF and that is it! Her little eyes are so red from tiredness by 7pm but she won't give in! The plus side is that once she is asleep she's not been waking until 6ish the next morning Shock We had 2 nights of that but then last night I woke her at 11 for a feed as I was worried about my supply drying up and her going too long without food whilst she still needs to catch up with some weight gain. But she wasn't that fussed about it so I think I'll leave her tonight if it happens again and try and express instead.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/07/2012 13:54

Brooking for all the Dreamy children to recover quickly. Poor little S.

Scarlet, the night sleeps sound good! I would love M to sleep in the evenings. She's been staying up until 10.30-12.30 for the last few nights, then waking at 3ish, 6ish and 8/9ish. Last night was better - she did 10.30 to 3.30, then slept until 8.30, and then actually went back to sleep til 11.30!

What do you dress babies in for funerals? I have to take M - will just have to sit at the back ready to take her out if she cries. I'm thinking a white corduroy dress with long sleeves - it's the most subdued item she owns. If it's a hot day she might need something cooler, though, and all her summer frocks are pink or yellow or blue and frilly. God knows what I'll wear - black, smart and bf appropriate is a hard combination!

scarletfingernail · 09/07/2012 14:00

I wouldn't worry too much about what DD's wearing Too I wouldn't buy an outfit for her specially. She's still little enough to wear a sleepsuit so just put her in a plain, understated one.

JenFraggle · 09/07/2012 14:31

Triclinium = dining room

Sending get well vibes to the Dream household

Wants I agree with the others even though I don't really have a clue. It's got to be worth trying before resorting to formula. Whatever you do, don't go beating yourself up about it or we'll all come round and slap you with a wet fish.

Wants3 · 09/07/2012 15:15

Thanks for all your encouraging words. I would love to express but the few times I have tried I have not got anything out so formula top up it has to be. I am just a bit sad about it as I had no problems feeding my other 2. I will :) as I don't want a wet fish although you are all still welcome to come around!
All those with crib dodgers, how did you get them sleeping in it again?

DreamingOfPeace · 09/07/2012 15:25

I don't think you should worry if he's content, satisfied after feeds and has wet and dirty nappies wants. Hold out a bit longer and ignore the numbers, you know your baby! If its added worry though, no shame in a formula top up. Or try fennugreek? Eating oats is meant to help milk production too.

Speaking of which, I need another 3oz for tonight, best go and do that... Expressing does just up your workload...

Mine both do days like that sometimes scarlet with a few micro naps.

I have been up since 3:15 bar another 30 min doze at 6:30 groan . Please get well children, and please sleep in your cot S. I've found on his side with brisk jiggling helps as shush pat doesn't work for him wants but it does for B. Also holding a muslin on my arm under his head so he goes down on something warm, idea stolen from jaggy :)

Biscuitsandtea · 09/07/2012 15:59

Brooking for all the poorly littlies Thanks

Wow and indeed zers Scarlet - dd is doing great at night! Just need to sort out those wee daytime naps.....

Jaggy hope the packing etc is going ok. Also brooking that Hawthers is getting on well.

I am beginning to think I may have over shopped for ds1. I've just washed out a load of 6-9 mth stuff. So far I've found 16 long sleeves t-shirts and 14 short sleeves ones.... Confused I'm not sure Paris Hilton could get through that many clothes in 3 months Hmm

I've forgotten everything else I wanted to say - I'm sure there was something......

Wants, for Iz's crib dodging I think it was just persisting that was important - and working out why she wasn't happy in it (in her case, refluxy, so going on her back = fussing, but being held = happy. Being put in on her side means she feels ok to begin with and stays asleep, and then she naturally rolls over onto her back, normally long enough after a feed to be ok).

I'd agree with what Dream says about not worrying about the weight! I've decided I probably won't weigh Iz anymore - not worth the stress while I know she's happy and healthy. The only exception may be next week, as DH is on paternity leave, and might want to go so he's had the experience!

Expressing wise, I've found being persistent is important. I can only get about half an oz during the day often, but got three yesterday morning. Could your pump be hindering you too? I have a manual Avent one, but have just ordered a second hand Medela Mini which I'm hoping may be more effective. I've found topping up with ebm has helped Iz sleep for longer - obviously getting much more than she'd get from me! I was really depressed and miserable about expressing until the other day (need to so I can attend the odd rehearsal- and need to express before then so Iz can get used to settling at night with a bottle).

If all else, Wants, a formula top up is just that - a top up. He'd still be getting all the benefits of your milk! My mother told me about how she had to do that for my brother as she couldn't keep up with his appetite, despite successfully BFing children either side - and my bro still has a ridiculously huge appetite even now!

Scarlet, daft DD - but at least you're getting the benefit at night! Last week Iz decided she wasn't sleeping in the afternoons, and was then grizzly most of the time...

Too, I wouldn't worry too much about what she wears. She's bound to be a brighter star in a darker day, regardless of what she wears.

Dream, brooking for quick recoveries all round for your brood :(

Iz only woke once last night! Shock. I woke lots as I was in Shock that she hadn't woken up. D'oh. May be something to do with the bath and then 5oz (!) of ebm she had before bed..

Biscuitsandtea · 09/07/2012 16:05

Oh Too sorry you have to attend a funeral Sad. I would put a baby in a somber-ish sleepsuit I think. Mind you it's much easier to find somber boys clothes (maybe more like difficult to find anything else!)

BF and somber is tricky too. What about a black wrapper style dress? Nice stretchy jersey material? Or if you had a dark suit you could layer a dark top and a dark vest to do the pull top up / vest down trick for feeding? In fact, wouldn't need to be a shit even, just a dark skirt?

That's it, blame your phone. We know it was you really

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/07/2012 16:45

Grin at phone on naughty step!

I can just about fit into my black pencil skirt, but the only black tops I've got are scruffy vests. I haven't any black cardigans at the moment - I've only bought maternity work clothes for the last 2 years and otherwise I either don't fit into things or else couldn't bf in them. I phoned Mum in a panic after a review of my wardrobe and she's bringing me a few things of hers to try tomorrow. She mentioned a wrap dress, so fx it fits! I tried on my smart black jacket and there was no way it was going to fasten, and I'd just feel fat and self-conscious all day in it. Can I wear a white top with a black skirt?

PetWoman · 09/07/2012 19:05

Wants hope you're feeling ok about feeding D whatever you decide to do. Using a dummy worked for us to settle DS but I'm not sure if it could have contributed to his slow weight gain?

The Latin was just small quotes from the first few lessons of the Cambridge Latin Course which seems to be the universal text book for school Latin. Happy days.

Dream hope you're all ok and B doesn't come down with it too.

I haven expressed for over a month now (got out of the habit when I took DS to my parents for a week). I need to start again but actually I kind of hate it. As Dream says it's just another chore.

Musical "brighter star" - what a lovely thing to say. :)

Too a white dress or blue would surely be fine. Or sombre sleepsuit. I'd say a black skirt and white top would also be fine but my sense of style can be lacking.

Since I started feeding him at night instead of resettling him with the dummy, DS has been sleeping less well. Am exhausted. Think I'll go to bed with him tonight.

jaggythistle · 09/07/2012 23:06

packing was a bit stressful but the car is loaded with only a few odds and ends to add in the morning.

i just can't do organised packing. also i pack way too much. my style is to get out every item of clothing we own, try to pack it all, give up then still pack loads.

lucky the boot is huge.

we're only going to frickin France, they do have shops there...

sorry to hear you have funeral to go to too we took DS1 to a funeral at 6 months old :( , he actually owned tiny navy trousers and a tiny designer smart shirt (MIL can't resist buying stuff for babies). he probably looked a bit ridiculous but did take people's mind off things a bit. no idea how i bf him in my suit Confused maybe just before we left for service and after we got back to hotel as he was a bit bigger.

jaggythistle · 10/07/2012 07:05

hello.

hopefully leaving in an hour..

i may have bought some extra internet for my phone (I'm PAYG) to keep up while I'm away from my wifi. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 10/07/2012 07:14

Have a FAB time Jaggy Family Smile
