i think it's recommended to keep them out of the sun under 6 months, not sure if i have made that up?

hot rainy weather is annoying, i keep dressing the boys too warmly as it looks dreich (what's the translation of that Scottish Brookers? dull and damp?) outside then either it's all muggy or the sun is out by the time i get out the house Blush

think R might get too warm now as it was windy outside but we're in the hospital waiting for my weekly blood results and it's always boiling.

pommedechocolat · 06/07/2012 14:00

A has been asleep for an hour and twenty minutes!!

This is more exciting than dd1 doing a poo in the potty.

Me? Get out more? Possibly :)

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 14:02

Grin at Pomme

Poor DD Dream. We're in the same boat here. DS temp still slightly raised, not eating, awful cough and full of snot. Brooking for them both to get well soon.

WARNING - HOLIDAY RELATED INFO, PROBABLY VERY BORING IF NOT INTERESTED IN CALIFORNIA, Scream we flew to LA, hired a convertible and had 5 days or so there exploring. Loads to see, could have stayed a lot longer. We managed Malibu, Santa Monica/Venice, Long Beach, Universal Studios, Hollywood and Beverly Hills. If you get chance to do the 'tour of the stars' homes I recommend it. Very tacky thing to do I know, but it was great fun! We even saw a couple of A listers. We then drove to Las Vegas and had 5 days there. I won't bore on about that as you've not mentioned going there...
Then we drove back to California, had a really long day in the car but saw some amazing scenery through Death Valley and then spent a couple of days at Yosemite. Stunning. Then we drove on to San Francisco. Alcatraz is a must see. It was one of the highlights of the whole trip. We met up with some friends from home while there and had a fab time. Golden Gate bridge is stunning. We hired bikes and cycled across to Sausalito. We came home from San Francisco and I then spent the next 6 months with post holiday blues. Obviously I could bore on about this for ages, but I'll stop there. If there's anything you want to know just ask. The only thing we didn't do that I would love to do if we ever go again is more of the Pacific Coast Highway. It's a beautiful coastline and we didn't have enough time for it.

Interesting that some of you Brookers have lived abroad. hawthers I'd love to go to Sydney, it's number 1 on my wishlist. I have a good friend emmigrating there next month so hopefully I will get out there at some point. How long were you there for? I've only ever lived in England, but DH has lived in several other countries through work before we met.

Biscuits I've not used my Ergo in the rain yet. When it started to rain the first time I used it, it was only drizzling so I just pulled up the hood thing (not sure if it's only on the sport version) and she stayed dry. If it was really raining and I had to go out, I'd stick to using my pram/pushchair.

I wanted to ask the other sling/carrier users what you all do about carrying your stuff? I've only ever used mine when DH has been with me so he's carried the bag. But if I had to go out on my own, I'd still need all the stuff from the changing bag. What do you all do about that?

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 15:02

Sooooo.....

Ds2 fed at 9:30. We went swimming at 11:30. He fell asleep as I was putting him in the car at say 12:30 ish. He's still asleep HmmConfused. Should I wake him?

Scarlet your trip sounds AMAZING! We've done LA and SF and LV / Grand Canyon but never with a car do you can't see as much. I'd love to go to Yosemite Smile. Agree that Alcatraz was fab too and I loved SF. I could live there I think.

We've visited Sydney (and some other bits of Oz) but never lived abroad. Nor do we speak any fancy languages Smile. I love Australia too though and NZ. Could happily also live in Perth or Cristchurch. I have a friend emigrating next mth too Scarlet but she's going to Perth.

Right, what to do with this sleeping baby .....

My Ergo is here!

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 15:04

Yay!!! How is it? Huh? Huh? Spill the beans......

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 15:19

Scarlet could you use a backpack with a minimal change kit so not too heavy?

OP posts:
hawthers · 06/07/2012 15:44

Right packing nearly complete. Ironing done, about to fill the car up with diesel. Just got changing bag to pack, some pureeing to do and need to factor in extra nose blowing as I appear to have acquired a rotten cold...

JenFraggle · 06/07/2012 15:45

It's a bit fiddly getting all the straps adjusted on my own. According to the instructions, you need to be double jointed to be able to do the clip at the back once you've got the shoulder straps on Hmm

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/07/2012 15:52

My Ergo arrived too and DH tried it on and I don't think M's legs are quite long enough to use it yet, grr. Her legs seemed to be uncomfortably splayed across DH's tummy. It might work better on me - will try it out later.

Taste festival was awesome! Diet didn't last 5 mins. We spent a ridiculous amount of money on cheese and gin and smoked salmon and beer and fudge-flavour yoghurt and fancy sausages. I foolishly wore leather ankle boots and think they may never recover - stupid liquid mud.

I lived in France as a student (just outside Paris) and speak French! Well, I used to, but now I speak best when I'm drunk.

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 15:59

Sounds like there must be a trick to that Jen Smile

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 06/07/2012 16:01

i speak ok French and Spanish when drunk. bloody useless sober though.

i love learning languages, but i don't use them often enough to be any good any more.

i was supposed to spend a year abroad during my degree but i kind of chickened out. my subject was hard enough for me in English. plus i had met DH after 1 day at university

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 16:02

Too interesting what you say about the leg thing. Have you got a newborn insert? What does that do for their legs?

DS2 just woken up he's so hungry bless him!

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 16:03

Ah Jaggy that's lovely - I met my DH in the first week at uni too Smile

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/07/2012 16:08

Didn't buy the newborn insert as it said that from 4 months they wouldn't need it! M will be 4 months on Monday. I think the issue may be with DH's tummy - hence why I need to try it myself.

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 16:14

Grin Too

OP posts:
JenFraggle · 06/07/2012 16:22

The newborn insert has a bit on the bottom that they sit on. The legs dangle free out the front of it. Looking at the picture on the front, even with the newborn insert, the legs should be hanging out either side of the carrier.

I can get by on a trip to France, after that my next best language would be Latin...

hawthers · 06/07/2012 16:29

jen once you've got the shoulder straps on after a few tries you get the hang of the back buckle! Think it is easier when they are bigger/heavier.

hawthers · 06/07/2012 16:30

Passable Spanish and French and usually give any language a go but failed miserably with Portuguese in Argentina

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 16:30

Just googled some pics of the newborn insert. Some pics make it look like the feet both stick out one side? HmmConfused

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 06/07/2012 16:32

Portuguese is hard! all those funny s sounds.

i had a go at Italian on a trip to Rome, it wasn't too bad.

Biscuitsandtea · 06/07/2012 16:36

Fish I'm pitiful at languages! You're all so clever!
