DreamingOfPeace · 25/06/2012 21:27

No, don't think so too if she's happy enough with it. Ben is very upset by it.

jaggythistle · 25/06/2012 21:48

Hehe i have some white noise bookmarked on youtube, was getting tired of hearing myself shhh. it wasn't loud enough on my phone though when i tried it earlier.

just about falling asleep on the couch here.

DreamingOfPeace · 25/06/2012 21:51

Well, I'll tell you tomorrow if it was a one night wonder jaggy but it was actually miraculous tonight :) . Started with it super loud, it has to be as loud as their cries, then you can turn it down to background noise level once they're asleep.

scarletfingernail · 25/06/2012 22:01

Oh God Dream, all these conversations we've had over the last 10 months about sleep and I can't believe I never suggested white noise to you. I'm so annoyed with myself. I swear by it! I happened across it by accident 2 summers ago when it was so hot I ended up putting a fan on the highest setting in DS's room. He fell asleep quicker than ever and we've used it ever since. The downside is that he now struggles to sleep without it, but it seriously works. Maybe try it for your DD as well?

DreamingOfPeace · 26/06/2012 02:31

Well quite scarlet Wink . Fed both, Ben who usually takes 4-5 resettles is back asleep with his cd on!! S unfortunately looks totally, 100% wide awake... Groan. I'm not, we've been up well over an hour now... He slept loads in the day so I've got the fear he's genuinely not tired...

musicalmrs · 26/06/2012 04:22

Pomme, for dairy free there are a couple of ways you can go. Are you wanting to avoid dairy, or lactose? If the latter, Lactofree is great. If the former - well I've always survived with soya milk, but I know it's not to everyone's taste. I think lots of the alternatives taste a bit 'odd' though, so it's about finding the oddness you like the most!

Chocolate wise, there's very little dairy in dark choc (esp good quality), and there are usually some good free from options in the supermarkets' ranges.

..I'm lactose intolerant, as is my DH, so used to finding non-lactose and/or non dairy solutions!

Will have to give this white noise a go..

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/06/2012 05:09

I hope everyone had a good Day 3 of Shredding/dieting yesterday? Mine went well if you ignore the fact that I'm already sick of vegetables! We went on a massive shop and I stocked up on everything I need to stick to this diet for the next week, so this is usually the point at which the diet starts to fail! Grin Wish me luck with Day 4 please No Brookers! I'm still No Brooking hard for all of us on the 30 days weightloss kick.

Very interesting reading about the white noise last night. Yyy for anything that results in more sleep for Dream! Hooray! I downloaded some for Autumn but unfortunately she just ignored it completely, sigh. Sooooo tired!!

Also, I second everything Musical said about dairy / lactose free. I'm another lactose free person who prefers soya milk, but lactofree milk is also fine. In my case I can handle a little lactose each day, so I can eat milk chocolate (phew!) but if I was to attempt ice cream for example the results would be unpleasant!

What's everyone up to today then? I hope you've all had a full night's sleep.

cakes82 · 26/06/2012 06:45

I'd heard white noise was good to help baby's sleep but had images of the noise they apparently use in some interrogation methods so didn't like idea. Will bear it in mind now I hear it definitely works.

scarletfingernail · 26/06/2012 07:38

DS is having his pre school injection this morning. Wish me luck!

Brooking for all you shredders, I'm seriously impressed.

musicalmrs · 26/06/2012 08:13

Scream, I'm the same lactose wise - can get away with a little bit thankfully! I love soya milk personally, but my DH can't stand it, so he has the Lactofree. Have you tried lactase tablets? I've found I can have ice cream with them - hurrah! Nice for a treat.

Have caught my DH's cold - urgh - so coupled with my hayfever I now feel spectacularly rubbish. Plus he's off abroad later, so all a bit :-(

On the plus side, I don't think I has the cold.. Yet!

Biscuitsandtea · 26/06/2012 08:18

Good luck Scarlet and DS.

DS1 was fine after the jabs but his right arm came up with a hard red lump that was quite sore a day or two after. It just went away again though after a further day or so but was sore enough that he couldn't lie on that side in bed.

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/06/2012 10:28

Good luck with the jabs, Scarlet! M has her 12 week Hmm jabs tomorrow. Sad

Hope you feel better soon, Musical. A cold plus hayfever sounds rubbish. I keep reading 'I' as meaning you, and then realising you mean Isabelle!

Interesting chat about white noise. Could have done with some last night - I got up to go to the loo at 2 and must have disturbed M, because she woke up and cooed and gurgled to herself noisily for 10 mins before deciding she really did want me to get up and feed her and adding in some loud yells Hmm. I tried shush-pat and she just grinned at me and waved her little arms. Maybe I left it too long and she was too wide awake before I started. Are you supposed to shush-pat as soon as she starts gurgling and wiggling?

I have heard that people who are lactose-intolerant can often tolerate goats' milk. Have any of you lactose-intolerators tried it? It does have a fairly strong aftertaste, mind you, which not everyone likes.

Scream, I did indeed manage to Shred/diet yesterday! Mainly by virtue of the fact that there was nothing but healthy food in the house, mind you. It's a good thing I'm 3 miles from the nearest shop - it means so long as DH stays strong and refuses to bring me home crap, I'm healthy by default. Shredding is still v hard-going and I'm following Anita all the time!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/06/2012 10:56

Too I started off following Anita (who does the "easy" version of each exercise move) and now I can barely keep up with even her! I think it must be the muscle ache and my constant mentalling about my split tummy muscles but it just gets harder everyday! Surely there will be a turning point and it has to start getting easier?!?! I'm planning to stick with level 1 for the first ten days (there are 3 levels/routines on the DVD) so I hope this gets easier before I jump to the next level!

Not a fan of goat's milk here, too thick and creamy for me! I decided I didn't like it when I was young, pre-lactose intolerance, so not sure if I could handle it now.

No Brooking hard for Scarlet's DS! Fingers crossed for a fabulous nurse who's so good he barely notices it!

Musical I've heard of the lactase tablets but not actually tried them! Up until now I was so accustomed to not eating dairy I never felt I needed them. However while pg I discovered my lowered immune system meant I could eat dairy again temporarily! So I gorged on ice cream and milkshakes Blush Now I really miss dairy again, so I might give those tablets a try!

Biscuitsandtea · 26/06/2012 11:04

I'm such a good parent.

DS2 is lying on the playmat and DS1 is watching I Can Cook while I'm buying mzke up and a change bag on t'interweb Hmm

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 26/06/2012 11:04

Or even mAke up

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/06/2012 11:36

Grin Much of my parenting in the afternoons involves sitting on the yoga ball watching Glee, The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother with M. Blush I figure that at this age she just likes the light, movement and noise. Hope you're getting nice make up!

Scream, am also planning to stick to Level 1 for 10 days. I did have grandiose plans about trying to follow Natalie after Day 5 but am rapidly abandoning those.

JenFraggle · 26/06/2012 11:49

Ah but Too BBT is educational being all about physics and comic books

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/06/2012 11:52

Scream, have lurked on the Shred thread running here and it's supposed to get easier on/after Day 4. I hope so! Your SPD isn't aggravated by it, is it? Can't advise you on the tummy muscles but did you take your measurements before you started? If they go down over time then I imagine your tummy would be ok.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/06/2012 11:54

Exactly, Jen! And M is learning important life lessons about interacting with all kinds of people.

JenFraggle · 26/06/2012 11:58

Sheldon is widely believed to have Aspergers so M is also learning about special needs.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/06/2012 12:47

BBT is practically a degree level physics lesson surely Too?! I'd be a bad parent if I didn't ensure A spent at least half an hour each day studying, right?! Same again for the play gym Biscuits, by abandoning allowing A to spend time on the play gym independently I'm helping her to learn how to be comfortable in her own company whilst I buy unnecessary things on Amazon!

Too thanks for the heads up about Day 4! I've just done my Shred for today and I would genuinely say the cardio is getting better, it's just strength which is kicking my butt at the mo! Fingers crossed for an improvement tom! I'd love to follow Natalie (harder version of each exercise) from Day 5 but I can't see it happening! Maybe Day 7? [wishful thinking emoticon]

I'm off for coffee shortly with a new-again Mum friend who lives nearby. She's on a post-baby diet as well so we can sit together sipping our water and staring lustfully at the cake selection! Grin

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/06/2012 13:13

Gosh, not sure I would have the stamina to withstand cake!

Think I've messed up my timings - M started to wail just as I was about to pour omelette makings into the frying pan, so am now feeding her instead and she's looking v sleepy. Haven't put hot water bottle in pram to encourage her to go down properly. If I eat lunch after M falls asleep I'll have to give it some time before I can Shred, which may mean M wakes up again before I get to it, or halfway through it. Of course, M may not go down properly due to lack of hot water bottle foresight.

Yy to learning about SEN! M will learn to be kind and tolerant by watching Sheldon. Grin Also ditto for the baby gym, but I figure it's stimulating her little brain and helping her learn coordination by definition. Now if we could only master tummy time we'd be cooking with gas. She still howls when she's on her tummy even if I point her at the TV

I can do the cardio and the abs - they're hard, but doable, it's the strength that leaves me shaking and nearly dropping the weights.

OK, M is asleep. Will attempt The Transfer.

fishcakefoxtrot · 26/06/2012 19:39

Shredded yesterday and am having a day off today. I will call it my official rest day. I did however do several longish and v brisk walks pushing both children in the double buggy because we were rather late for everything and I chose to eat a carrot instead of a chocolate bar so I feel that counts for so something. Will be back to the shred tomorrow.

Dd1 in a big bed has not been a huge success. Dh ended up sleeping in her room the first night and she came in with us this morning, having fallen out. So she now has a bed guard and I think we will do rapid return if she doesn't stay put. Anyone got any tips?

too we have 12 week injections tomorrow too. Am not looking forward to it,tbh.

scarlet how's ds?

scarletfingernail · 26/06/2012 19:42

Which bag did you for in the end Biscuits?

DS was an angel having his jabs. I didn't realise there would be 2 until the nurse said, so I was dreading the 2nd one thinking he would kick off after the first. But no, didn't even bat an eyelid let alone flinch Shock for either. So he's been treated to a new jigsaw puzzle.

Let's hope that tomorrow is just as successful for DD's 8 week jabs tomorrow...

Hope the cold buggers off asap Musical

scarletfingernail · 26/06/2012 19:53

How old is DD1 Fishcake? My motto for everything except potty training which was hell which many may not agree with is 'cold turkey' A few nights of pain involving returning her to her bed with minimal conversation should hopefully work. Exhausting when you have a baby but by this time next week I reckon she'll be used to it.
