The D&V sounds horrible Dream - really hoping that nobody else picks it up. After only two night shifts I have a new found appreciation of your amazingness with looking after the DTs alongside your DD. Definitely superwoman!

Oddly DD often sleeps fine in basket during the day, but isn't a fan at night! She's currently on her fourth feed in a row, so hoping she'll then go down for a bit.. We'll see. Luckily nothing planned for tomorrow...

Sore nipple front - I've heard about cooling/soothing pads you put in bras- any good? Any recommendations?

Biscuits, congratulations! How very exciting :-)

PetWoman · 20/05/2012 02:17

Hi all!

Dream rubbish re the D&V - no brooking that clears quickly and doesn't affect anyone else. Hope it wasn't the fault of your mother's help.

I'm on the southern end of North Yorkshire so not that close, sadly. By the way, I don't think you need to revisit any baby books: you know what you're doing but just unfortunately have the difficulty joy of twins, and crying/refluxy/colicky twins at that. It will pass...

Hawthers well done with the pt efforts. I'd fib to the nursery too as your DS1 is only in for a couple of days, right?

Jaggy so sad picturing you crying over DS2's bum! Hope he's improving now.

Musical congratulations! If need be, you may have to stay in 'cuddle small baby' mode for the next few weeks (and take advantage of DH and visitors to take over the cuddling while you shower etc). Re stitches, I poured warm water from a drinking bottle down myself when I peed which helped, just bathed in water (though my mum suggested adding salt) and ate lots of fruit and veg so the first poo wasn't too traumatic. Re sore nipples, a friend used savoy cabbage leaves cold from the fridge!

Biscuits hope you're having a better night. I know what you mean about secretly having some satisfaction in DH sharing your pain: mine has been complaining that I've not got enough jobs done round the house (he does food shopping and cooking so not as bad as it sounds!) but today I left him with DS and some ebm while I wandered round a few shops and when I got home he said that he'd got nothing done cos DS wouldn't settle! I had a little :) and said airily 'yes, he can be like that sometimes...' Though actually he's getting much better: often sleeping from 8-1am ish and then till 5/6am, though more restless in the second half of the night. So he and I are back upstairs in the bedroom! Woo hoo! Though defo no bedroom action here. Yet. If ever. I'm interested but DH is not. Blush :(

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 02:58

D&V dream? noooo! brooking for swift recovery all round.

sitting here with my wee chest frog who isn't quite so keen on his crib with his cold. gets in a right wee flap cos he's struggling with breathing. just trying to snuggle him back to sleep after a feed and change.

currently doing lansinoh in between steroid cream on his bum. was back to bleeding bits again yesterday evening, although overall inflammation is better. i figured if it's good for healing cracked and bleeding nips it should help the raw bits. :( DH still too scared to change his nappy!

away to attempt transfer to crib...

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 05:02

he managed nearly 2 hours in his crib there..

PetWoman · 20/05/2012 05:55

Oh well done Jaggy's little boy. Poor thing with a sore bum and a cold! You sound like you're coping brilliantly though.

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 05:59

Too tired to post overnight, but up plenty with ds2 again Sad.

Eventually he did sleep a little longer but only because we (rightly or wrongly) gave him calpol. I wasn't sure about it but DH is convinced he must be ill Hmm I'm still not sure we did the right thing.

I know this sounds normal maybe, but he has just been screaming as soon as he touches his crib Confused. Normally he's quite happy in there (well most of the time anyway) so this is a bit unusual for him. Even if he's not happy to be put down normally he has a special 'hold my breath, squirm, go red in face, then whimper building up to a cry' technique to let me know. Whereas this has been full on screaming from the moment any part of him touches it Hmm.

Also he's not that comfortable to be held in any horizontal sort of position (= more screaming) and wants to be upright. Sounds like wind right? But we've winded and winded him and on occasion got out some great wind so I'd be really surprised if it was just that?

DH reckons I should take him to the doctor Hmm (and in the middle of the night was all for taking him to hospital today because the doctors are shut HmmHmm). But I'm not sure exactly what he wants a doctor to do when my only evidence is 'errr he won't sleep? Yes, he's 10 weeks old.....' Hmm, Hmm and Hmm some more.

I know this might not sound that out of the ordinary, it just seems odd for DS Sad

Anyway, better see if we can eek a bit more sleep out of him Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 06:00

Sorry for the mememe, will try to catch up on everyone else later. Blush

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 06:46

biscuits - we once called nhs24 because DS1 wouldn't stop screaming one weekend. took him to out of hours doctor...he fell asleep on the way and gave it big grins when we got there. Blush

hope your wee guy has a similar cunning plan. :)

pommedechocolat · 20/05/2012 07:37

biscuits - sounds like wind but might be worth getting his ears checked if he hates lying down? I would have done calpol too. Brooking for a better day for you.

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 08:33

my post was meant to mean get him checked if you're worried. doctors are always nice to wee babies and frazzled looking parents. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 08:34

Jaggy hope ds2's bum is on the mend. Lansinoh sounds like a good plan - hope it works Smile

Pet sounds like your DS is doing well with sleep too, and yay for being back in the bed! Grin

Ds2's sleep is so variable at the moment we don't have a 'normal'. In the last two weeks he's had his jabs, swiftly followed by the chicken pox and now whatever this has been the last 2 nights so we've had a real mix of good nights, not so good nights, and bloody awful nights. On a good night he might do something similar to your DS Pet and also is much more unsettled in the second half of the night.

He seems a little more settled this morning (or at least more manageablyupset?) (fingers crossed.....) so fingers crossed it's passed / passing whatever it is. Good idea re the ears Pomme - if he's unsettled again today or overnight I'll try to get him an appointment for tomorrow I think. I could really do with going myself to sort these frigging piles out that seem to enjoy my company so much BlushSad.

Hope everyone else is ok, and sorry for having such a moan about a couple of bad nights - I know I don't have it so bad really Smile

Oh, and yes, heaps of clothes here too! So so much stuff. Piles of newborn and 0-3 that he's grown out of. We're lucky in that he has plenty of storage but before he was born I washed all the stuff I could find up to 12 months so his chest of drawers is full of that. Not sure what to do with the stuff he's growing out of Confused. He has plenty of 0-3 outfits but I'm happy with him just in sleepsuits. I think ds1 was a few weeks older when he was the same size.

And we have SOOOOO many 3-6 mths outfits! We have all ds1's stuff and then have had loads of presents too. I didn't think we'd get much clothing for a second boy but I was wrong!

scarletfingernail · 20/05/2012 08:48

It does sound like wind Biscuits but depending on how he is this morning you could always get him seen by the out of hours Dr. They're very good up there IME. Call your Dr's, the phone number for OOH will be on their answerphone. I'm sure they'll see you if you can get there. (On the old hospital site).

I've not posted properly for a couple of days. DD has been unwell again! Some sort of tummy bug I think. Horrendous diarrhea started on Thurs. I also convinced myself that her fontanelle was sunken so took her to the GP on Fri. Her fontanelle is normal thank goodness, she's not dehydrated and the diarrhea has now passed. I didn't think I'd be PLB but I fear I am!

Dream I hope your DH feels better soon, one of the downsides of being a GP I guess. I hope he didn't get it from your mother's help woman. So angry on your behalf about that. Will you say anything to her about it when she returns?

Yay for pet being back in the bedroom.
Welcome over Musical hope the night shifts haven't been too much of a shock to the system!

DD seems to be getting into some sort of pattern at night. I seem to feed all evening right up til bedtime at 11.30ish. She then wakes around 3.30 and feeds til about 5. So although I'm up feeding for what seems like an age, I'm just pleased to be able to get a big block of undisturbed sleep. I can cope with 4 hours before the night feed and an hour and a half or so afterwards. DS wakes around 6.30 or else it would be longer. In fact I'm getting more sleep now than when I was pg!

scarletfingernail · 20/05/2012 08:52

Aagh that last paragraph sounds like I'm bragging. I'm really not, and now I'm also worried I've just jinxed it!

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 09:43

Glad dd's poorly tummy is better Scarlet a poor wee thing again! And sounds like a good routine at night. I agree that a block of sleep is v v good Smile.

It does sound like wind doesn't it - and he seems much better today. Well, currently he is awake and not screaming which is a marked improvement on yesterday! Smile think i'll see how he is today and just go to the normal docs tomorrow if he doesn't sleep for 12 unbroken hours for me tonight stay better. Hopefully it's not his ears - he doesn't have a temp which is good. It's just weird that he should suddenly have so much worse wind iyswim? Anyway I'm brooking it's passed now.....

DreamingOfPeace · 20/05/2012 10:01

Couldn't settle the babies together again last night. Patchy sleep/ dozing while holding or feeding one or the other. Why am i still not getting any decent blocks of sleep out of either? 2 hours is the best they do and often not both together, certainly not in the second half of the night.

DD super cranky and won't eat or drink so she may be feeling ill?? I'm fuming it may be all from the nanny lady. Anyway, speaking of which best go deal with her.

Biscuits, mine go red and.wriggly with wind and absolutely scream flat with reflux. Is he gulping/ puking too when he goes flat?

DreamingOfPeace · 20/05/2012 10:02

And he could just have an unsettled tummy after his illness??

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 20/05/2012 11:38

Sorry to hear about all the poorly babies :(

Biscuits that sounds like you've all had a really difficult couple of nights, poor you and poor DS2! Fingers crossed it was a temporary wind problem which won't return!

Dream I'm also Angry at your helper woman. It reminds me of when I saw that mw who turned out to have mumps. Surely these people KNOW that they're dealing with pregnant women / young babies who are much more susceptible to illness than a normal adult. How can they be so blase about spreading illness around!?! Grrrr on your behalf! I hope your DD isn't ill, she's had more than her fair share of sickness over the last 6 months! No Brooking for the boys to start having nice long synchronised sleeps soon!

Jaggy poor DS2! I hope his bum improves soon, Lansinoh sounds like a great idea! I hope his cold passes soon as well. I think I could potentially have thrush now, and I immediately thought of you when discussing it with the mw! I'm not sure how to know for certain though. I just have stinging painful nipples (just when breastfeeding was FINALLY supposed to get easier!). I haven't got any cracks though, and I can't see any white patches in DD's mouth, so there's no definite evidence. Really not sure whether it's thrush or not. Will try to get a doc's appt tomorrow.

Pet yay for being back in your bed!!

Musical I have the same clingy baby issues! She'll sleep fine in her carrycot during the day, but won't settle in her bedside cot at night. (She'll happily sleep curled up next to me, 3 inches away from her cot, but slide her 3 inches over INTO the cot and suddenly she's awake again!). Most nights I just give up and let her sleep on/next to me.

Yay for Scarlet getting more sleep! (Slightly Envy as well!).

All is well here apart from stinging nipples. Autumn has been pretty restless so we're not any closer to these legendary feeding gaps of more than 2 hours! She's still a sweetie though. Plus she'll sleep for DH for 4 hours (!) at a stretch when it's his turn to look after her! Clearly a Daddy's girl already!

I've been trying to figure out how to get anything done during the day while DH is at work. It's nearly impossible! I can DEFINITELY see the appeal of baby wearing!!! Still, this is the first bit of my maternity leave that I've really enjoyed Grin Not beating myself up about the housework yet!

Quick q, what are the signs of reflux in babies? Autumn is being sick more and more after feeds now, but it doesn't seem to distress her. It's more like she just drinks too much milk and some of it leaks back out, she barely seems to notice she's even being sick. That's not reflux, right? What does reflux look like?

pommedechocolat · 20/05/2012 13:15

Reflux is noisy scream and I think it's a lot of sick rather than the 'I've changed my mind about wanting that bit' that most babies do.

A just went nearly three hours between feeds due to having a good nap! I quite missed feeding her so will now stop moaning about constant feeding Grin

How's e biscuits? A has been much more sicky and windy since hitting ten weeks - had no idea that could happen!

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 13:54

Aw :) at you missing feeding A pomme!

DS2 is guzzling away happily after quite a big nap which luckily coincided with getting his big brother fed and into bed. of course he did a big poo as he woke up so almost lost his wee voice screaming through a change. he's only wearing a vest as i couldn't listen to it one second longer while the sleepsuit went on. he looks shocking as he has bad baby acne which is now scarlet after all the crying!

inspired by earlier chat i have just sorted through and delabelled all the new clothes. we are a sensitive skinned family so we can't get away with not washing them first.

scream apparently nipple thrush is quite excruciating so hope it's not that. when i did a thread about it recently folk reckoned I'd know if i had it! worth checking Kellymom?

hawthers · 20/05/2012 14:37

Just a quick post as got no sleep last night so nipping off for a nap.

biscuits the no pants or trousers thing is going well. No wee accidents since 10am although we did have a poo on floor incident which fortunatelyissed the rug

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 14:39

E has been a much more restful young man today thanks for asking Smile. In fact he fed just before 9 and then we nipped out to do a few errands and ended up getting lunch out because time had got on and he basically slept through the lot! So went over 5 (!) hours between feeds Shock can't do that at night eh? Hmm

I am so hoping it was just some weird wind thing. He's had really runny pops since he had the CP so hoping it's just his delicate wee system getting sorted out. It WILL NOT be the start of a recurrent wind / colic problem. It just WON'T ConfusedHmm

I don't think it's a reflux thing as he wasn't sick or gulping or anything. Just lots of kicking legs and windmill arms flapping about (with muchos screaming!)

Dteam sorry you had a bad night again Sad. I genuinely font know how you do it. Hope goose shall people manage to sleep for you all at the same time today.

Scream sorry for ouchy nipples, hope it's nothing serious. Could it just be that A has got a bit lazy with her latch? E does that periodically and it hurts after a few feeds and then I have to be strict with it for a while and take him off if he's not on properly.

Jaggy how's the lansinoh going? Any improvement? It's awful when they cry like that if you're doing a pre-feed nappy change isn't it. They do sound like they're going hoarse. Sad we've had feeds in just a vestfor the same reason! Hope he's knew settled now Smile

How is everyone else?

Biscuitsandtea · 20/05/2012 14:44

Yay for no wee accidents Hawthers and double yay for poos that miss the rug? I hated it when DS had an accident in a carpeted room Sad. Thank goodness for laminate flooring I say.

His worst accident though (from my POV) was when he did a wee standing right in front of the tv unit and managed to get wee on each shelf so that covered the sky box, the DVD player and the Apple TV. We could have seriously fallen out if he'd broken all those! HmmConfusedGrin

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 15:06

oh i remember the dvd player wee biscuits! Grin

my boobs would be throbbing after 5 hours!

DH took DS2 off for a cuddle while i got some lunch, trying to see if he fancies any further nappage in bed...some bugger outside with a noisy strimmer though.

not sure if the bum is much better, but it's not looking worse which is an improvement if that makes sense. the boots nappy rash spray was good at reducing overall redness, but didn't protect the raw bits. might use it in future for wee pink bum.

DS1 has almost coughed himself awake a couple of times so he'll probably surface soon. he's got the cold too, quite cheerful so far. he asked me for 'sniffy cream' when i put him to bed so his room smells like vapour rub!

DreamingOfPeace · 20/05/2012 15:10

How's your mission to de-nocturnalize Autumn going scream? I badly need to work on it with the boys. I hope the nipples isn't thrush and clears up right quick.

Good bare bum action hawthers

jaggy, poor little boy, I hope his bum clears up. You're doing everything you can

Despondent about the lack of sleep here, it seems neverending and now they're not tiny any more they should be going longer. I think they may be confused over day/ night, plus never want to be put down. I don't get them up at a set time in the morning or anything, should I be?! I wake every three hours in the day if they sleep that long.

jaggythistle · 20/05/2012 15:18

dream i certainly don't get them up in the morning. in fact i never ever ever wake any sleeping small people unless necessary, e.g. need to go out somewhere or DS2 has been spotted squeezing out a poo.
