Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jaggythistle · 11/06/2012 10:34

sorry to hear about flooding. :(

i had a labour bag and one with spare in case i stayed in, but i was out in

JenFraggle · 11/06/2012 10:58

I had a holdall for me and DH. DD's bits all went in the change bag so easy to find. Contents were as follows

DD:
Nappies
Wipes (to clean our hands after nappy rather than to use on her)
Cotton wool
Vests
Sleepsuits
Hats
Mitts
Socks
Bum cream (would be in change bag anyway so chucked it in and left it there)

I had clothes in small and bigger sizes as my nephew last year was too big for the newborn stuff when he came out and BIL had to go out and buy some clothes so that they could dress him.

Me and DH:
Pyjamas
2 packs of thick Maternity pads as not sure how heavy the bleeding would be so wanted to have plenty
Change of clothes to come home in
Warm socks as told by lots of people that they had really cold feet during labour, trust me to give birth in a heatwave!
Books
Food for him during labour, cereal bars, crisps
Food for me, bread rolls
Bag of bitsa wispa for me for after as a well done, you did it :o
Lots of pairs of old black pants
Nursing bra
Carrier bag for used underwear
Wash bag containing Shower gel, toothbrush (for me and DH), toothpaste, lansinoh, deodorant (again for both of us), flannel for mopping my brow
Breast pads
Phone charger
Energy drinks
Tens
Camera

I was having a 24 hour stay in the MLU afterwards so had a bit more than if we were going straight home after.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 11/06/2012 11:55

Ninja I think the others have given great lists for the bag, so I won't repeat what they've already said. Also, as I was having a elcs I imagine my bag was slightly different to what you need anyway. I just wanted to say that we ended up going in with 3 big bags - so I hope that makes you feel less self-conscious about what you're bringing in?! I had a small wheelie suitcase for myself (it's usually my hand luggage bag when I fly). I wasn't expecting to need so much for myself, but that bag was half filled with maternity pads and nursing pads, both of which I used! I filled the change bag to bursting with baby stuff, and used most of that as well! One thing that I didn't "deliberately" pack, but was in the change bag anyway, was a travel change mat. I ended up using the change mat loads while I was in hospital because they don't give you one, and I didn't want to change DD directly on either my bedsheets or her bedsheets without something underneath her. The final bag we had was a massive plastic bag which was filled with cushions! That's just because of my bad back of course, but I found the dream genii cushion particularly useful because it's a nursing pillow as well as a body pillow. I hope that helps?

Wants argh! What a nightmare! I do hope the rain stops soon and all that water hasn't done too much damage! No Brooking that everything will turn out fine, asap!

Pet thank you for mentioning the nappy size issue!! I was just wondering how to figure out when to change from size 1 to size 2, and of course regular nappy explosions should be taken as a big hint! We're trying out size 2 today, although they look so big still!

Biscuits thanks for asking about A's toe, I was just having a look at it yesterday while I was doing the imprint for DH's father's day gift. It looks the same unfortunately :( We have our last imw appointment tomorrow (Sob! We're being discharged!) So I'll ask her to double check it, and we have our GP check next week Wednesday. If it's the same by next week I'm going to push for them to do something about it, I'm not happy with "wait and see" for months!

Can I second Biscuits' request for other updates please? How is DS's shoulder Wants? How is the blocked duct Dream? Also, Pet tell us more about your olympic tickets!

NinjaChipmunk · 11/06/2012 11:59

brilliant, thanks. My list looks very similar so am not too worried now. I will dig out the little wheely suitcase and leave it in the back of the car I think....
Right off for a shower and a haircut, love to all!!

pommedechocolat · 11/06/2012 13:24

Second jaggy on nice baby blanket. chocolate for post labour my other recommendation :)

wants - hope you're okay. DH came back from the office (car park there knee deep in water!) and has now gone off to Kent. Seems very localised - apparently your village made the national news.

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 14:19

Hi Ninja - I took a change bag for DS's stuff, a smallish holdall for me and a small cool bag for drinks and snacks. Had far more than I needed cos was only in for 24 hours. I won't add to what everyone else has put as it seems pretty comprehensive, apart from some spare plastic bags for dirty stuff which I found useful. And I was very glad of the bottle of Lucozade and packet of chocolate hobnobs for after the birth!

Obviously we didn't get any events we actually wanted in the initial Olympic ticket ballot, so we subsequently bought women's weightlifting and beach volleyball (that one's for DH), men's boxing, hockey and football. We'll be staying with my parents so this will be our summer holiday. Hope it's worth it! Also have just noted that you can't take water into the events and it costs £1.60 when you get in! I wonder what the chances are of water fountains being available to fill up empty bottles?

Biscuits how did the swimming go? I'm starting with DS in a fortnight. Apparently he'll need a wetsuit - are you using one?

Scream sorry to hear about A's toe still being bad. Agree you should push to have something done if it isn't better soon. How are the bigger nappies working out?

Wants how are you doing without electricity? Hope things dry out asap!

Scarlet that's good sleeping from DD. :)

Wants3 · 11/06/2012 14:24

scream D still has a lump but no pain so I am sure it is on the mend!
pomme I am not surprised! Everyone is under water. Our road is flowing like a river! The electricity is still off so no heating/hot water and we still can't flush the loo:(

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 11/06/2012 16:13

Pet the larger nappies haven't really been "tested" yet! Will let you know once the next poo explosion has passed! How exciting about all your olympic tickets by the way! You'll have a great time! That must have cost you a small fortune though...?!

How lovely that you will be taking your DS swimming soon! At the moment there's a bit of a power struggle taking place in my family about who will be teaching DD to swim. My father taught my siblings & I how to swim, and I think he'd just assumed he'd get to do the same for his DGC. However my uncle also wanted to be the one to teach her, and had just assumed no one else would have thought it. In the mean time DH is bristling and getting territorial because he's intending to teach her! Naturally DH will have the final say, but it's funny watching them get all het up about it! Personally I hate swimming, but I think it's an important skill to learn, so I'm just glad I won't have to take her! Grin

You mentioned needing a wetsuit though - why? Do I need a wetsuit for DD or can we just get her a baby swimsuit? Biscuits how did your swim go?!

Biscuitsandtea · 11/06/2012 16:41

Wow what a swimming debate you must be having Scream. We're taking DS to one of those baby swimming lesson things - ds1 did the same sort of thing.

Wetsuit wise Scream I had one of these. Just keeps DS a bit warmer in the water. I started with ds1 at about 3 mths and he used to get much colder (we didn't have one of these for him). Mind you it was a different pool which may have been colder and it was a snowy January at the time. But ds2 deffo seemed less cold for wearing it.

Whether you need one though I guess depends on how old dd will be when you go and how warm the pool will be. If it's just a normal pool it may be a bit cool for her.

Swimming today was pretty good. He cried once or twice but was easily calmed with a wee cuddle. The rest of the time I would say he looked like he was cautiously enjoying it. Happy enough but not sure what was going to happen Smile

Hope you're drying out Wants xx

Biscuitsandtea · 11/06/2012 16:48

Oh and gutted that I bought DS1 a 0-6 mth one assuming that would fit him and he's practically grown out of it Sad. So if anyone is interested I gave a once used 0-6 to sell? Gutted that I can't really justify buying another new one so will have to hunt for a 2nd hand one when I've paid for a lovely new one Hmm. And I need it by the next time we go swimming..... Confused

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 11/06/2012 20:33

Grin at cautiously enjoying swimming, Biscuits! We dont start lessons until 6 months. I want M to enjoy swimming so shall have to go back soon.

Wants, just saw the flooding on the news! Shock Hope things are ok and that your internet signal is maintained (priorities).

There have been so many posts since I was last online it is overwhelming! Will respond to what I remember.

Jaggy, glad your platelets are back up already! V good news.

Scream, loving the PFB moment! I had one this weekend too. I lay awake for about 2 hours on Saturday morning (5 am to 7 am) beaming with pride at M sleeping so happily in a strange cot in a strange room. Blush She woke up at 4.30 and when I leaned over the travel cot she gave me a huge gummy grin, and then she had a nappy change and a short feed and fell asleep and transferred beautifully. [PSB fatuous grin] She wasn't frightened one bit.

I have forgotten everything else now. I'll read back and post again.

pommedechocolat · 11/06/2012 21:14

Does anyone else with two constantly feel like one or the other of the children isn't getting enough of them? I seem to end each day feeling like one only got needs met not wants Sad

On my own tonight. Bedtime went well now for night time - play nicely girls!

Biscuitsandtea · 11/06/2012 21:37

Yes pomme I absolutely feel like that!

And like poor ds1 has to deal with me being short tempered when I'm tired so we areas out over things I really wouldn't normally Confused

hawthers · 11/06/2012 21:46

Totally pomme every day :(

Last nights sleep totally rubbish but f and I had a two hour nap this am :)

Biscuitsandtea · 11/06/2012 22:01

'Areas out' should say 'fall out' in my last post. No idea how auto correct auto corrected that one Hmm.

fishcakefoxtrot · 11/06/2012 22:53

Yes pomme am so tired and then when dd1 wants extra stories at bedtime or for me to carry her or to sit on my knee while she eats I could cry as I just want one minute's peace but I feel so guilty so I end up with both of them in my lap but not really able to do anything for either of them.

Yesterday's piano trip was a success and I am going to get the piano! I am very excited Grin
musical I wouldn't say that I play but i used to when I was younger and I am looking forward to playing again. my fingers are definitely not remotely nimble though. Am intending to learn some nursery rhymes and hope that the DDs aren't too critical an audience.

Am Envy of the clever sleeping babies. Dd2 seems happy with her current routine of going to bed when I do and then waking at half 1 and half 4 and then being restless from about half 5.

wants I hope you have survived the rain.

biscuits I hope ds2 has a good post swimming sleep!

jaggythistle · 12/06/2012 03:09

yup pomme i feel sleepy and impatient and guilty a lot!

usually i think DS1 feels hard done by, but yesterday poor DS2 spent what felt like ages ignored in the sling. i don't think he was bothered as he just slept!

DS1 is seriously pushing the boundaries of what he can get away with. he's been such a lovely wee boy (if i say so myself!) so we're not used to struggling unless he's too tired or hungry - you know when they do the toddler Jekyll and Hyde thing and start doing everything they're not supposed to?

well he seems to have figured out that if I'm feeding or busy with baby that i can't stop him from emptying the tissue box/scaling the furniture/raiding cupboards/chucking stuff about.

he's also ignoring DH asking him to do things , who seems to think it's me being too soft. I've not changed how i deal with him, but it's a big change for DS1 and he's just seeing what he can get away with i reckon. any tips? Grin

I'm trying so hard to not let him get hungry or too sleepy but it's not easy!

jaggythistle · 12/06/2012 03:15

sleep wise, the most we get is 2-3 hours. DS2's favourite time appears to be 1am as i always see that on the clock. although it was 12.40 today.

i had an 'early night' and we were all in bed asleep by 10. i just tried to finish the cluster feeding in bed to take advantage of him sleeping.

we always have a faff about after 1am. feed, i fall asleep, wake up, change poo, feed, fall asleep more. eventually realise and put R in crib. then he's hungry again anyway or something and it's bloody daylight.

away to attempt transfer, birds only just starting up outside...

brooking for settled babies and angelic toddlers.. :)

hawthers · 12/06/2012 03:42

jaggy DS1 pushed quite a few boundaries when f was first born and was a nightmare challenging for the first six weeks, hitting pushing biting. He had NEVER behaved like that before si it was really upsetting. We treated it with zero tolerance and used time out r the threat of it. Not something I'd choose so much but nursery use it.

Things got much better at six weeks and again at three months (really sorry I can't remember how old r is - in my defence I was so tired yesterday my own name wa a bit of a stretch). Although we've had a bit of a relapse with potty training triggered I think by stress.

jaggythistle · 12/06/2012 03:58

he's 8 weeks this week, but DS1 was pretty good till the last couple of weeks so we got off lightly at first. fingers crossed it settles down, thanks.

still bloody here. put DS2 in crib and he woke himself up 2 mins later by being sick. he then had another side of bf and has gone all windy. did get a huge burp out before i put him back, but he's now lying there writhing and farting so probably another nappy soon. :(

i was so excited about not sitting here watching it get light!

jaggythistle · 12/06/2012 04:26

hmm, he's stopped wriggling and gone to sleep. think i will cross my fingers it's not poo and leave him to it. zzzzzz

Biscuitsandtea · 12/06/2012 06:43

Hope he's staying asleep Jaggy - how is his bottom now?

jaggythistle · 12/06/2012 07:04

he lasted about half an hour Grin Just one of those nights i guess! I've been awake on here ever since.

his bum is pretty good, only took 2 tubes of Lansinoh to heal up! still having to use metanium a bit as he gets red and rashy easily.

how do you bite your tongue when your DH wakes up and tells you how tired he is when you've watched him snore most of the night?

hawthers · 12/06/2012 07:09

Nooo jaggy I'd lamp him one and then weep with tiredness to ram the point home

Biscuitsandtea · 12/06/2012 07:14

Honestly jaggy I wouldn't! Grin at the very least I would administer The Look for that Grin.

Although I have to concede that I spend a lot if time being the least tired of the two of us (I'm talking pre pregnancy and baby here) because DH works such long hours. And I would always caveat my own tired mosnings with the fact that just because he's tired doesn't preclude me from being tired iyswim? Although he would normally be more tired. But I did at least acknowledge that he was more tirederererer Smile

Can you get a nap today? Hope ds1 is on board with a bit of good behaviour today cx
