Thread 2.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I completely agree Dream! I've been prepared to feed in public, it just hasn't needed to happen yet - DD usually sleeps soundly for ages in the sling! I've fed her in the car in car parks before (normally while DH is shopping for DIY bits!), and in front of friends and family, including a huge gathering a week or two ago. I'm more intrigued about whether I'll get any comments - very impressed (and pleased!) that you've not had any negative ones.

Also mightily impressed at BF while pushing DD on the swing! Was that one DT, or tandem?!

DreamingOfPeace · 10/06/2012 21:54

Hmm musical that was Seb, while trying to keep up pushing DD and rocking Ben in the buggy to avoid him waking up for milk too. Not much fun but no howling. :) I've been surprised how little people notice etc, they just carry on chatting to me as normal at the wedding, at playgroups etc. When i tandem fed on a hospital waiting room chair the receptionist called over to me to give a shout if I needed her help to get them off/wind. So pleasantly surprised so far. The only iffy one was at the doctors surgery (small branch surgery)- the receptionist said a doctor wasn't in so I could feed in their room. I was sat feeding so said oh no, I'm fine. She checked the computer and said its ok the next patient is a lady anyway, I'm sure she won't mind. I was a bit Shock at that in a gp surgery of all places! She was nice though, I was just so surprised and taken aback st her comment, hadn't felt awkward at all til then (empty waiting room so just me and her present) but then she helped with baby jigging/ winding while I fed the other. It seems noone likes to hear a newborn cry!

jaggythistle · 10/06/2012 21:59

i was defo more worried about the in-laws than being in the restaurant dream hehe!

I've chilled out much more this time and also wish it was much more easily accepted. i reckon most people prefer it to a screaming hungry bairn!

I'm a self conscious person so had to work a bit harder on my confidence last time round, spending 2 years+ on mumsnet has helped. Grin

i also cocked up with DS1 by not feeding in my own living room from the start while i got the hang of it, so parents and in-laws kind of expected me to disappear. i used to be ushered to my MIL's wee sitting room when we visited! also i didn't feed at the table when out with them. that doesn't sound like a big deal, but DH's parents like to eat out a lot so i was forever ending up in a wee corner somewhere.

man i just got a bit sidetracked there. DS2 has had a big cluster feed and passed out a for a bit, i should really be sleeping...

jaggythistle · 10/06/2012 22:05

x post about the crying babies!

jaggythistle · 10/06/2012 22:07

baws i think DS2 has pooped too, so I'm going to have to wake the sensitive bummed wee monkey up...

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 10/06/2012 22:11

Dream if your bfing in the park while pushing DD on the swing was tandem feeding of both DTs I think I will have to make a pilgrimage to your house and just bow at your feet! Even just one DT in that situation is phenomenal! I'm No Brooking like a crazy thing that your blocked duct will clear tonight and all horrible symptoms will immediately vanish! Also No Brooking for all 5 members of the Dream household to get to sleep shortly and have a restful night!

I think I would actually explode if my DH made that comment about looking after our DC not being a job Pet! You are clearly a saint for having that much patience. Like Dream, the atmosphere in my house between DH and I isn't great at the moment. If I'm honest I don't think we've ever fought so frequently or so bitterly. Sigh. I'm really hoping we can get through this phase and back to being happy.

On the subject of poo explosions, today DD managed to fill her nappy to the point where the overflow went down her legs, up her back, and even got on her arms! Naturally she waited until my father had come over to pick us up in his brand new (literally 2 days old) BMW...! Confused We had to pop out to a shop halfway through the journey to my parents' house, so we couldn't just ignore the mess until we got to the house. I had to actually do a full change on the brand new leather seats, with my father looking on so anxiously you'd think I was delivering a new DGC! Grin He was a good sport about it really, he's so besotted with DD he'd forgive her anything.

Here's No Brooking to good nights all round! Especially for Hawthers and little F. I can see why you'd have to consider controlled crying if all else fails at this age, and I can imagine how hard that must be!! I'm No Brooking it won't be necessary!! Come on little F, you can do it!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 10/06/2012 22:15

Sorry, that post took me so long I missed Dream's earlier reply to Musical's post. Oops! Still, incredibly impressive bfing skills Dream!

hawthers · 10/06/2012 22:36

Seems f can't do it. Stood day for feeds and naps yet he has still woken bow after going down at 8 and will only be consoled by boob. Oh dear

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 10/06/2012 22:42

Oooooo can I add a really gushy PFB story to the thread please? Apologies in advance! While at my parents' house today, I was holding DD against my chest with her head on my shoulder when my little sis came over. DSis leaned over towards DD with pursed lips, planning to give her a kiss, and DD spotted what she was doing and actually tipped her forehead towards my sis in anticipation of the kiss! It was so cute, she bent her neck and put her little forehead out ready to be kissed! My sis immediately called my Mum over (they're both totally obsessed with DD) and when my sis repeated the action DD did the same thing again. It was sooooooo cute!

Okay, soppy PFB moment over. Please forgive the nauseating gushing! I'm always up for hearing anyone else's gushy stories though?!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 10/06/2012 22:44

X-posts Hawthers, sorry to hear F is up already. Sad Fingers crossed for a longer stretch of sleep when he next goes down!

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 06:26

Ok. Either all the babies miraculously slept last night or all the mummies are too exhausted to post. I hope the latter. Grin

Thank you all for your kind remarks about my ability to avoid arguing with DH. However, I didn't reply only because (1) it was so obviously a stupid comment that I thought even he must have realised that as he said it and (2) we were in the middle of house-cleaning at the time and I didn't want to derail our efforts as the house was filthy and finally (3) because DH does most of the housework already so I was feeling a bit guilty for not doing more.

Musical my sister plays the piano so we spent some time playing and singing to DS last week. Not entirely sure he appreciated it but he will learn to .

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 06:29

Duh. The former - I hope the former ! Blush

hawthers · 11/06/2012 07:09

The latter over here unfortunately

Zonk

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 08:24

Dream I'm with you on the breastfeeding, though I felt uncomfortable doing it in front of my dad! I've breastfed in a pew during a church service, on a train and while walking the dog, to name a few I'm proud of. But have always been subtle (I hope). And not had any comments (yet).

Scream loving the kissing baby story - Autumn sounds so gorgeous! DS enjoys smiling and chatting to people once they've established eye contact with him - when falling asleep he has been known to spit out his dummy in order to smile and address a few remarks to the person holding him!

Re your nappy explosions, could it be time to move to a bigger size of nappy? I clicked that DS had outgrown size 1 when we had two similarly disastrous incidents (fortunately at home, so I just dunked him, then his sleepsuit, in the bath!).

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 08:31

Oh Hawthers . :( .

Dream how's the blocked duct? Hope you're feeling better. Can your DH prescribe medicine if needed or would you need to get to a surgery? (Sorry if that's a daft question!)

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 08:32

Ooh, some Olympic tickets have arrived! :)

Wants3 · 11/06/2012 08:34

Well we have had an eventful morning, DH has been bailing out the extension as the water was threatening to come under the house! The whole garden is under water too :(. I am marooned unless I put wellies on! Oh and the drains are blocked so the toilet is backing up!
D did 4 hours and then 2 hour blocks but I was kept awake by the rain for some of the night!

pommedechocolat · 11/06/2012 08:37

wants - we're up on the hills up here so not too bad (bar a roof leak due to old guttering!) but car park at office near you totally flooded and I've heard the big A road is totally shut as it's flooded all the way across!!

In sleep news - up at midnight, five and then quarter to seven - not sure what to do with my energy!

PetWoman · 11/06/2012 09:22

Wants that's terrible! Is it still raining?

Pomme hurrah for a better night!

I meant to say that yesterday I forgot to take DS's dummy to church and had a nightmare! Partly, I suspect, because I'd felt obliged to hand him over to an irritating well-meaning elderly lady when we arrived because she loves to steal hold babies during the service. Anyway, he got tired and was in a screaming rage by the time I realised what was going on (she'd taken him to the 'baby room') and I just couldn't calm him. Luckily one of my friends (a health visitor) did bum-patting etc until he fell asleep. But I felt totally incompetent. So how you mums manage with babies who don't like dummies, I do not know. :(

Wants3 · 11/06/2012 09:53

Still raining here and no electricity in the kitchen now! My friend down the road (with month old baby) has water in her house :( so at least I am dry!
I also feed anywhere I need to, no negative comments yet.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/06/2012 09:57

Ladies sorry to interrupt your mornings but I need to ask a question. How big a bag was your hospital bag and what did you have in it? I have a list but it seems to be huge and I don't want to overpack particularly. When I had ds he was born in the morning and I didn't go home till the next evening but that was nearly 5 years ago so I can't remember what I actually used.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/06/2012 09:59

wants can you decamp to anywhere dryer? That sounds awful!

Biscuitsandtea · 11/06/2012 10:18

Ninja we had a small wheely suitcase. I didn't want to take too much but DH said he wanted everything in one bag, so all my labour stuff, baby stuff, stuff in case i had to stay in longer (like with ds1), snacks, his food etc everything was in one bag. That way DH didn't have to drag along my labour bag, a bag of snacks, etc etc whenever we moved rooms or whatever. It may well have looked like we'd overpacked but I do think it was easier to manage overall.

What he then did was pack stuff into little see through bags within the case so that if he had to take stuff home or look or things he could see what was what.

But our experience first time runs was me being in for a week so we both had in our minds that DH might be taking washing home and bringing clean stuff back etc.

Hope that water dries up Wants - that's no good at all.

I'm taking ds2 swimming for the first time this morning (wish me luck) so must shoot off and get ready. Catch up properly later xxx

Oh in the meantime please update me on the following:

  1. A's toe - Scream
  2. Dh's shoulder wants
  3. Your blocked duct Dream

Seriously brooking that the answer to all three of those is 'not a prob any more' xx

scarletfingernail · 11/06/2012 10:19

Ninja my bag was HUGE, probably almost twice the size of DS. Don't worry how big it is, take whatever you feel you might need. I sent stuff home with DH if it was used/dirty/not needed after all. I'd rather that than not take things I might have needed.

3 nighties for me
5 sleepsuits
5 vests
small pack of nappies
cotton wool
washbag with toiletries in
hairdryer
nursing bras
Lansinoh
snacks
book/magazine
earplugs
big pants
maternity pads
towel
clothes to wear home
flip flops
spare t shirt and toothbrush for DH

If I think if anything else I'll add to it.

Wants what a nightmare! I hope that's the worst of it over,

What events are you going to watch Pet?

Love that story Scream Smile So cute.

DD slept from 9.30pm until 4am Shock The downside of that is that I've been up since 4 because she then fed for 2 hours, then DS got up. DD's been weighed at clinic this morning, she's only put on 5oz in 2 weeks so still only 8lb 8oz but the HV didn't seem concerned. I was thinking she's be nearer 9lb by now.

Wants3 · 11/06/2012 10:20

Not really ninja as roads and paths flooded too! We are just going to sit tight and wait it out. DH is working from home so I am not alone.
