Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/06/2012 16:47

Oh no Jaggy, that's rubbish! Hope the docs get you sorted out sharpish. I expect once they get going with the treatment you'll feel much better

Um, I can't remember anything else anyone has said...reusable nappies don't apply to me (too lazy!)...sleep sounded good, Wants! We had a rocky start to the night last night - very wide-awake flailing baby, dropped off on me a couple of times but wouldn't stay down. Put her down the first time at midnight and went off to pee and clean my teeth, came back to find DH holding a v wideawake baby, grr! Managed to put her back down at 1 am, fell asleep and then was woken up at 1.40 - gah. Luckily she didn't stay up for too long - back down again at 2 and then slept through til 9am! Result. I feel weirdly shattered this afternoon despite all that sleep . I think having Mum around reminds me of how tired I am, because she does a lot of playing so I don't have to worry about entertaining M, when she's gone it feels like I have to do it all again. Does that make sense?

pommedechocolat · 04/06/2012 17:27

Family trip has done me in. No sleep at all.

Extremely [jealous] of sleeping people.

MIL fed dd1 so much salty food she has the shits. MIL drives me crazy.

pommedechocolat · 04/06/2012 17:27

Extremely Envy even.

Biscuitsandtea · 04/06/2012 18:04

Woweee Jaggy - am v glad this is all in hand now! So do you know what the implications of ITP are?

What a good job that you started that thread though? I would never have considered that bruises would be the sort of thing to require a fairly urgent course of treatment! Hope it all started to improve ASAP xx

DreamingOfPeace · 04/06/2012 18:20

Also crawling in...

My three have stinking colds again. Finally got Seb down at 9 ish, Ben down after the HOURS of crying (:( ) at 10:30, DD woke coughing at 10:45, got her back down fairly quick by 11:10, Seb coughed himself sick at 11:30 and so it continued with ping pong twins up all night. Plus DD also coughed herself sick in the night. Luckily I had enough expressed milk so handed over to dh who did a bottle n kept them til 4, dozed with Ben til 5 when Seb woke again accidentally in exhausted dangerous cosleeping.mode, boob still hanging out leaking milk and everything and ended up with both babies on their tummies in with my on a memory foam mattress with me too scared to go to sleep but too tired to move them an have them wake up again.

hawthers you should have egged the noisy party people from your bedroom window (assuming they were outside not through the wall of course, not quite sure why I'd assume that?!)

jaggy how scary, thank goodness you did that thread. Will it be post pg and temporary, or no idea yet? I'm brooking you're ok and ds2 gets better quickly too.

DreamingOfPeace · 04/06/2012 18:22

Oh, and too, the dts did some good tummy time for me over my thigh, so arms and chest over my thigh, and with a rolled up towel under chests. Neither likes eating playmat much either!! I know what you mean about lack of extra hands making you realise how busy and tired you are... She did a good stretch of sleep though, yay!!!

Wants3 · 04/06/2012 19:36

D back on the boob again! I have given up timing length between feeds- if he is rooting, sucking fist I feed him. My nipples are getting sore :) I managed to throw some tea down me while DH held a whinging D. I then had to change a wet nappy which made D really cross and now he is snoozing at the boob!
We are just settling down to watch the jubilee concert as I am going to be stuck in this chair for a while!

jaggythistle · 04/06/2012 19:42

apparently the average count is nearer 150 so 13 is pretty rubbish! have been pming with one of the posters on my thread, hers was temporary after the birth, hoping mine is too.

implications are taking medication for a while and getting lots of blood tests. hopefully steroids will work ok and they won't need to try other stuff.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/06/2012 21:58

Biscuits, what is the catheter test? M had to have the dye test (DMSA?) but not a catheter. What is the diagnosis with E's issue - it's not the same as M's, is it? You've probably told me before but I can't remember. Blush

Jaggy, I find it amazing that MN can diagnose illnesses correctly online! So glad that people were able to help you quickly and tell you to go get a blood test. Does the doc think it might just be post-preg?

Didn't manage much tummy time today, Dream - sounds like you were doing great with the twins!

M is chest-frogging sucking her paw just now.

DreamingOfPeace · 04/06/2012 22:07

Stop press!!! Right now I've got all three children asleep

Admitedly one is on me but still... This is as rare as a lunar eclipse, theyre never all asleep.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/06/2012 22:09

Sorry, that was an abrupt ending! The phone rang and I just hit post in case I lost it. I've forgotten what I was going to say, though...

Oh yes. Brooking for colds to improve in the Dream and Biscuits households.

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 04/06/2012 22:11

Sorry, had to press send super fast before one woke up. :)

We went out to a farm park place today with friends. Though DD is not on great form she still enjoyed it, though i had to carry her a lot. A real live nice day out and dh and o barely argued

Yes, when is E's catheter test biscuits?

NinjaChipmunk · 04/06/2012 22:52
PurpleWithaBlueBun · 04/06/2012 23:29

Hello everyone! I have had a fabby weekend with the inlaws :)

Dream I had a laugh when I saw your DDs name (lovely btw!) just because you are poss the worst incognito ever! Bless you :) Would love to hear how the wedding was, what dress did you wear?

Jaggy hope you fix up soon, poor you :(

Music it was indeed a tutto Ds was wearing :) I am having trouble getting much of my nappy stash to fit him sadly. I have found this super bargain, not bought it yet though.... £35 for 10 little lambs! They will need an outer wrap

Erm can't remember what else I was going to say...

jaggythistle · 05/06/2012 03:11

hi ninja.

i had no mention of low platelets during pg, so this is a bit out of the blue! i would have read the numbers in my notes folder, but not really known unless i was told they were on the low side. from what I've Googled unless you are pg they just monitor you if your count is above 50 and most people don't get symptoms till 100.

jaggythistle · 05/06/2012 03:19

i don't really have any symptoms apart from the bruising, luckily no bleeding or anything I've to call NHS24 straight away and tell them about my low count if i have a nosebleed etc.

boo just transferred R to crib and it sounds like he's had a big poo and woken up. nappy time...

brooking for more simultaneous sleeping dream!

touch wood R's cough seems better so hope it's nearly away. been ok sleeping in crib for the usual short bursts tonight.

PetWoman · 05/06/2012 08:35

Dream glad you made it to the wedding - hope you had a good time.

Too I sympathise with your frustration over the pawprints. What kind of dog have you got? For me it's also clumps of hair floating around, and tiny hairs attaching themselves to everything - our plates, food, clothes... I've been away this week and it's been nice not having to pull hairs out of DS's mouth. Blush

The sleep-training info is interesting, especially the thing about babies waking at the same time. I think we'll move DS into his own room once he's grown out of his basket as the cot's too big to fit in our irritatingly small bedroom. Hopefully he'll be around 4.5 months then so in the right bracket for sleep training.

Jen sounds like you're doing a good job with the feeding.

Jaggy really sorry to hear about the ITP. Hope you respond quickly to the treatment.

PetWoman · 05/06/2012 08:47

And Dream and Purple glad you enjoyed some quality Bank Holiday weekend time. I've had a lovely time visiting my parents - loads of friends and family have come round and DS has been cuddled all day, every day and will probably refuse to nap in his basket when I get home and generally been admired enough to please the most doting of parents! :)

Scream are you having a busy, fun-filled time?

Biscuitsandtea · 05/06/2012 09:44

Too we don't have a definite diagnosis for E's kidney yet. Just that one kidney us bigger than the other and it's nearing the stage where the consultant considers it quite bad. We're beyond the 'oh it's probably nothing' zone and into the 'hmmm lets keep an eye on it' zone. The tests are to try to establish what's going on. They'll also repeat the US scans until he's at least 1 to check on the size of it.

The catheter test is a cystogram (which has an even longer cysto-somethingorother-ogram name too but the consultant called it a cystogram so that's good enough for me!). To be honest it sounds to me a bit like a HSG! Catheter up his willy (I can't even bear to think about this part Sad) and then a dye inserted (not radioactive though). Then x-rayed to see where it goes. It's looking for a blockage in the urethra (? Is that the tube coming out of the bladder? I get my urethras and ureters confused Confused), or any reflux from the bladder if urine starts heading back up towards the kidneys.

The cannula test is a renogram (? Renalgram? Something like that) and that's the radioactive dye and pictures taken with a gamma camera to see if the dye goes down to the kidneys properly so it can check to see if kidney usage is 50:50 (if they each get the same amount of dye) and then if there is a blockage in one of the ureters (if the dye clears out of one kidney more quickly than the other).

So we have the cystogram at the start of July and the next consultant appt presumably around Sept ish to see what's happened. I guess we'll have another US somewhere in there too. Then in Sept he'll decide if he wants to do the renalgram thing.

Remind me what it was with M's kidney? I know you've told me before but I can't remember Blush did she have the renalgram thing? Was it ok?

DreamingOfPeace · 05/06/2012 10:36

purple, I left it stupidly late to order dresses for the wedding and ordered two from milkbug. A pretty turquoise one and a soft brown one which looked like the style would suit me better. The turquoise one looked horrendous and the brown one turned out to be very brown, bit drab for a wedding but i had to wear it and thought I'd manage to nip into accessorize and grab some multi coloured jewellery/shawl. Well, that didn't happen either... The wedding was ok but a bit stressful- spent the (longer, catholic) service feeding or jigging at the back to keep the dts quiet, then similar at the reception, both had explosive change-everything nappies etc. Overall, it went as well as it could have with the duo there and I'm glad we went but not the same as a child free experience :)

Oh, chaos, laters brookers

JubileeFraggle · 05/06/2012 11:49

Biscuits I had a gamma scan when in primary school. The worst part was being busting for a wee but not allowed to go. Then when I was allowed it was in the room in front of everyone, no privacy. Obviously neither of those will be problems for E at his age. The result of mine was being told to drink more so not serious. I had the test as I was getting regular kidney infections. They went away after being forced to drink. I have a problem in that I don't get thirsty, I can get to the evening before realising that I haven't had a drink yet that day although this bf lark is making me drink constantly

pommedechocolat · 05/06/2012 12:24

A fed at 11.30 and 02.30 last night and got up at 6.45 so I got some sleep and feel better.

I have also decided that unless sleep dramatically improves between now and then she will start getting a nighttime formula bottle approx 16.5-17 weeks (i.e. after vaccines and also I read once that ebf to 15-16 weeks is really good for the guts and dh's family have terrible gut issues although maybe due to mil not doing one bf and giving them rusks from six weeks). Hopefully I will be able to maintain just one bottle until solids when i will start doing some more formula during day until just down to am and pm feeds which I would like to keep doing for a few months. This is all of course on the proviso she'll the a bottle which I'm not sure about actually.

jaggy - how scary/odd! What is ITP, what is affecting your platelets?

dream - I didn't really enjoy either wedding we've been to with both dd's so far. Dh's brother's wedding is at the beginning of August. I fear will be the same but for two nights and the added irritant of MIL but we'll see. I am so much happier at home at the moment. I wore skirt and 2 vest tops to the wedding and Iguess will do same in August. Made me realise that all women always wear dresses to weddings as I was only one not in a dress both times!!

Biscuits - Brooking for E and his kidney results. I thought he was more 'probably nothing, don't worry camp' already, hopefully he will be post results.

jaggythistle · 05/06/2012 13:35

pomme it is some big long words which mean unexplained low platelets. and the p is for purpura which is the bruising due to bleeding under the skin. it's an autoimmune thing where your body thinks your platelets are a threat and destroys them, even while your bone marrow is making more.

will be interesting to see what the consultant says. the steroids are meant to suppress the immune response to allow your count to come up.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 05/06/2012 13:52

Biscuits, that sounds a bit like some of the things they were checking M for. She has a multi-cystic displastic kidney, which is basically a kidney that didn't develop properly and is just a bunch of cysts. She's had a couple of US scans and the renalgram thingy to see how much function there was in the bad kidney. It turns out there is no function in it but her good kidney is absolutely fine so she should be ok. If she was to get UTIs/renal reflux etc it could be v serious as could cause scarring of the good kidney. She'll be scanned again in a year to see if the bad kidney has shrunk or not - it is supposed to shrink and if it doesn't then they might take it out. The renalgram would have been fine if they had been able to find a vein to put the stupid cannula in without much stabbing on their part and screaming on M's. We went away, fed her and then she slept right through the gamma camera. It's not scary. Ask for a senior doctor to do the cannula before you start and E'll be fine.

Dream, yay for all three being asleep at the same time! I haven't had to go to a wedding yet - it sounds v stressful.

Pet, I've got a whippet cross Staffie. He has nice short hair and a terrible bin-raiding habit, grr! I spent all yesterday picking golden retriever hair out of M's mouth after Mum's visit. What kind of dog is yours?

Pomme, how old is A now? Hope her sleep improves, but yay for you getting this far with bf! And surely one bottle won't affect her daytime feeding. What will you do if she wakes in the night - breast or bottle?

Right, had better get in the shower - it's nearly 2 o'clock and I'm meeting my sister at 4!

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 05/06/2012 15:28

That's reassuring about the renal gram - thanks Too. Fingers crossed the small kidney shrinks for M.

Pomme they thought he was in the 'prob ok' camp but that was based on a scan done at less than 24 hrs old so before he'd really got his wee processes going. Hence the repeat which showed it to be worse than they'd thought but not terrible.

Very proud of all you brookers taking on weddings. Nowt that brave from us. We've managed a few mini days out but that's your lot really.

Just feeding E then off to make a Victoria sponge with ds1 - yum Grin
