Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Wants3 · 05/06/2012 15:50

I attempted to do a supermarket shop this morning as DH goes back to work tomorrow! D woke up, cried, leaked out his nappy, needed a feed and then pooed!:) it could be Internet shopping for a while I think!
I am going to attempt to give him a bath now as he is calm and not attached to my boob.

Wants3 · 05/06/2012 16:31

The bath went well- D loved being in the water, the getting dressed afterwards was a bit stressed. When he was in the bath I ws able to have a good look and feel of his shoulder as something hasn't been looking quite right. I noTiced he has a hard lump between his neck and shoulder on the left side. Itdoesnt seem to hurt him and he is moving that arm ok (although I can't recall if he has put it up straight next to his head) . I could drop in to hv clinic tomorrow morning or should I go straight to GP or clutching at straws is it normal?!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/06/2012 18:45

I meant to say earlier thanks also for your reassurance Jen. As you rightly say E doesn't have to have the full bladder thing. I think last time we went for an US there were some school kids doing that, poor things Sad.

Well done on the bath Wants but I agree - Internet shopping is the future until babies are at school Grin. Don't know about the shoulder thing. To be honest, if it was me I'd probably go straight to the GP for it. The HV will most likely tell you to go to the doc anyway won't they? Unless it is quite normal (which I have no idea!).

How about making a GP appt (which will no doubt be tricky after a 4 day weekend) and then pop along to the HV clinic and if she (or he of course) says its nothing, then cancel the GP appt?

DreamingOfPeace · 05/06/2012 19:30

Sorry biscuits, I started a post, got distracted, hit send next time I picked up my phone and missed your post about E. It looks awful following that with drivel about a dress. I'm sure he'll have some numbing stuff and/or be sedated too won't he? And maybe the thought is worse than the reality? I haven't had one, but having a catheter taken out after my third degree tear op and CS was nothing but i was scared both times... Plus, as my dad always says reassuringly, babies don't worry and that's sometimes the worst part. Tell me to shut up if you like, its not my poor baby having it :( I'm hopeless, already dreading immunisations next week! I nearly refused to go to the wedding too biscuits, so much hassle!

wants no idea on the lump, but I like biscuits get gp appt, see hv and cancel if nothing plan. Online shopping all the way here :)

At least you've got a plan pomme. My DD wouldn't take a bottle when I tried at about 3 months... Hope yours is more cooperative! To do 16.5 weeks will be amazing anyway. I do love the instant comfort bf gives though, that's so handy!

How are you getting on with feeding scarlet? Have you got a plan of attack?

My mum came today and both babies went to sleep so what did I do? Toilet scrubbing. Clothes sorting. Laundry. Dh mowed the lawn then started building a swing set he's bought DD. I had a sense of humour failure over how I'm 24/7 childcare/ housework and he gets to do other things. Even though they were just jobs, I'm so unreasonable these days.

Speaking of unreasonable it would be ridiculous to turn down hand me downs because I'm swamped with bin bags of clothes for sorting/ storing wouldn't it?? I'm getting fed up of never getting to dress the children to my taste especially if dh putting his foot down about any more...

pommedechocolat · 05/06/2012 19:48

I am hoping sleep does improve and I can carry on ebf dream. I sooo know what you mean about dh and jobs. I get arsey with dh because he has jobs that are finished and an achievement of sorts. You can never 'finish' childcare/cooking/washing/ironing as it's a permanently generating thing. DIY stuff must have more of an afterglow that household/childcare drudge.

I'd turn down hand me downs if I were you. Both Grannies seem to dress my two as they buy so many clothes for them I'd be silly to buy them too and sometimes I feel 'grr' about it.

wants - ask gp. They can only say 'don't be silly' at worst :)

DreamingOfPeace · 05/06/2012 21:28

Ha. I'm just feeling negative today pomme as there is not the slightest hint of improvement here. Bedtime routine for weeks. Neither baby asleep now. Keep ending up with Ben in bed with me. feed feed feed. I hope she does improve, and quickly!

DD is teething, 4 premolars coming through though she still has no canines. She's had some horrible nappies, isn't eating but also keeps being sick, just a bit, not huge chunders, and is off colour, so now I think she's got a bug of some sort too. :( Just what I need.

Moan moan moan. I am tired . Please go to sleep babies.

hawthers · 05/06/2012 23:06

decides not to burst pommes bubble by posting about F's incredibly shit 4.5 hours if broken sleep last night even though he is on 200mls of high calorie formula just before he goes to bed

PetWoman · 06/06/2012 08:49

Too your dog sounds small and cute! Mine is 3/4 springer spaniel, 1/4 Labrador. She's gorgeous but when I got home yesterday and gave her a hug I was immediately covered in black hair. She's moulting. :(

PetWoman · 06/06/2012 09:14

Oh good grief, talk about insensitive posts - I didn't read the last page before answering the dog question. Sorry, everyone.

Hawthers sorry to hear F's still not sleeping well. Is there any reason that you can identify, like teething?

Dream hope your DD improves without getting really unwell. I know it's not a long-term solution, but if you can only get Ben to sleep when he's next to you I wouldn't worry too much about it, but just try to get more sleep yourself. At least DD (and Seb?) are doing better. How much do the DTs weigh now?

I think I'd turn down the hand-me-downs. I accepted some but actually they're mostly IMO not very nice. You've got lots already. You don't need any more. Alternatively accept them, pick out only the few items you like, and send the rest to a distant, so the clothes-giver isn't offended charity shop. If you ever get time to sort through them, that is.

Plus, is it just me, or is dressing my dolly baby one of the fun parts of having a child?

Wants I think Biscuits's plan sounds good, though I'm no brooking that the lump is nothing to worry about.

Biscuits sorry to hear about E's kidney. Hope the scans etc show nothing to be concerned about.

DS had his last feed at 7.30pm and didn't wake for another feed till 5am today! Though every time he coughed, snuffled and squawked I leapt up with boob out just in case, so not as restful a night as it should have been. Grin I'm now sitting in bed with gently leaking boob, waiting for him to wake up for another feed...

Wants3 · 06/06/2012 10:02

There is a telephone queue for the dr surgery so I am going to attempt to go to hv clinic and then see if I need to sit on the phone for ages! :(
I have bricklayers in the garden waiting for a delivery of bricks to be able to start!
DH went back to work at 6am this morning. I have managed to put a wash on and grab a banana for breakfast, oh and fling some clothes on! I can't see myself getting much more done until he gets back at 6pm tonight. :)

Loopyhasanotherbean · 06/06/2012 10:06

hello all, just popping in to pick your brains if thats ok!

i remember talk a while back re changing bags. I have a very crap/cheap one that i used for DS. I could do with something a bit bigger for when DS2 arrives, as i'll have 2 in nappies then, and i no longer use a handbag when out with DS, so whatever i get needs to be big enough to hold stuff for both DS's and still have room for my phone, purse, lip balm, tissues, brush, and my drink bottle as a minimum :) and ideally lots of pockets so that things aren't just randomly sat at the bottom of the bag like this one.

So what ones would you all suggest? what do you have, and would you buy the same again?

I scan this thread from time to time, and afraid i don't have time to name check properly other than to say i think you are doing an amazing job dream and i think you should be very proud that you are still EBF'ing your DT's and i hope that life starts to give you a break (and lots of sleep) very soon!!

Re some of your discussions, this may or may not help, but re sleeping, we tried dreamfeed using expressed breast milk with DS and it didn't make any difference to his sleep, the only thing that worked for us was letting him cluster feed until about 10.30pm each night, and from 6 weeks he'd then sleep until 6am ish. When he was 5 months old, in the space of 4 nights he suddenly decided he wanted to move his bedtime from 10.30 to 8.30 to 7pm, and it has stayed at 7pm ever since - so we moved him into his own room as it meant we had our evenings to ourselves then :) (so for 5 months we didn't eat together, and i ate evening meals using spoons as if DS wasn't feeding then he would be snoozing upright on me - he was terrible at transferring which we later found out was probably down to his reflux.) Until he was 5 months, nothing would get him to sleep any earlier, just how he was, but at least he (and we) got a good nights sleep when he went down at 10.30ish. We had a patch about 6 months where he started waking in the night but as he hadn't had a night feed since 6 weeks, we refused to give in as the hv said he didn't need feeding, so would send DP in with a bottle of cooled boiled water. Within a week, DS had realised there was no point waking up as he wasn't going to get fed, and if he did wake up, he would just settle back to sleep on his own. But this wasn't approved by most of the hv's, but an old school one said that she did it with her 3 and she said that its the only way to break a bad habit, and that it had to be DP who went in, as DS would smell the milk if i went in, whereas with DP, no smell of milk and nothing but boring water on offer.

To those considering using formula, i gave some to DS a couple of times when he had fed and thrown it up, fed from other side and thrown it up, and was screaming for more milk and i had nothing left and the resulting nappies made me determined to never give him formula unless i really had to, which was an added reason on top of the "breast is best" mantra and the fact that every week i could keep feeding him was saving us £10 that we'd have spent on a tub of formula. God those nappies were absolutely vile, and very loose indeed. Thinking back, when i had DS i thought i'd feed him to 6 months and then stop, but i ended up feeding him until he was between 14-15 months, and i only stopped completely because i was pregnant and it suddenly became very unpleasant to feed him. There was a lot of pain and discomfort in the early weeks, but i think this all went by 3 months, and i never had any pain at all from then on. And it was so convenient being able to whip a boob out when needed, never had to worry about making sure we had some with us in case we got stuck in traffic, no hassle washing/sterilising bottles etc. So to those having a bit of a wobble, if you can get to that point, hopefully it will be a pleasure for you from then on like it was for me (until then it was very toe curling at times, especially for the first few minutes each time he latched on, and the latch was fine as had it checked out, i do wonder if it's just that they have mouths too small to start with and the pain goes once they are a bit bigger?

pommedechocolat · 06/06/2012 11:33

I love, love, love my Storksak - I have an Olivia and a friend has a Nina, both are great!

Thanks for the formula pep talk - you are right in that it might not help at which point I'd be gutted. DD1 was on bottles from six weeks and was a good sleeper - i think the two have become very linked in my head.

Could have got more sleep last night although dd1 was zonked for 12.5 hours and dd2 wasn't bad - dh was up from 4 puking his guts out. Seriously, world?!

Pet - Amazing on that stretch without a feed. Hopefully tonight he'll do it again and you'll sleep too :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 06/06/2012 11:35

Hi all

Apologies for going AWOL the last few days, this weekend has been insanely hectic. We've been out all day every day visiting relatives, mostly outside of London. Monday was absolutely crazy, we left the house at 7.30am to get to a photoshoot for Autumn in West London, then down to Brighton for lunch with some of my relatives, then off to Hastings for dinner with family friends of DH, before getting home at half midnight with a fractious overtired baby who wouldn't settle until 2am. Just crazy.

The photoshoot was sooooooooooo much more fun than I was expecting though! The photographer is a lovely woman with 3 young boys (the youngest is 11 weeks! Shock) She showed me some amazing techniques for getting Autumn to settle into sleep (we needed her asleep for some of the photos). I would have paid her fee for the sleep tips alone - never mind the photos! Grin I couldn't believe how she managed to get Autumn to sleep on cue, and then put her down on various surfaces without her waking!

She's sent us a couple of sneak peek images from the shoot already and I just love them! Very excited to see the final collection of images!

Loopy in answer to your change bag question, I have a Pacapod Portland and I absolutely adore it. I haven't tried any others though so I can't really compare properly. The Pacapods have mini bags within the main bag; there's a change bag with lots of little compartments to stash all your nappy changing stuff, there's also a feeding bag which is fully insulated to keep bottles cold. I find it's so helpful to be able to pull out a tiny bag with everything you need rather than constantly rooting through the main bag. The main bag has space for clothes etc, plus a parent section where I've transferred the contents on my handbag. Hope that's the kind of info you were looking for?

I haven't had a chance to fully catch up on the thread, but I'm glad I'm not the only one secretly frustrated by being given lots of baby clothes! Most of mine aren't hand-me-downs, they are mainly gifts from lovely sweet kind thoughtful people. I really appreciate their generosity. It's just that we have so many clothes, for every age through to 18 months, that I'm worried it won't make sense for us to buy any clothes until DD is at least 2 years old! Most of the clothes really aren't to my taste... I'm so fed up of dressing DD in clothes I don't like! I feel like I'm missing out on the chance to stroll around baby shops buying cute gorgeous outfits that I love, and seeing DD the way I would like her to look! It seems so ridiculous to spend anywhere between £15 and £30 on a single outfit for DD (why are baby clothes so expensive!?!) when she can only wear it for a few weeks, and she already has drawers filled with clothes! Sigh.

I'm No Brooking hard for Jaggy! I'm so glad you caught the ITP thing, and I hope the steroids resolve the issue with no need for any further medical intervention!

Also No Brooking for M and E's kidneys! Poor LOs going through all those tests!

No Brooking that Dream will get some non-baby-non-housework time! I'm rather sick of that myself (not on the same scale as your situation of course!) It seems like DH's life hasn't changed at all, he's still out with his friends all the time, whereas I don't go anywhere without DD. Our current argument is over a stag weekend coming up in a month. Apparently it's completely unreasonable to suggest he should only go for the main events on Saturday (therefore staying one night) instead of going to the entire weekend including two nights away. Apparently looking after a baby entirely on my own for over 48 hours is no big deal. Angry Sorry to digress, I do hope little Isla feels better asap!

Pet and Too's dogs sound soooooo cute! V Envy

Apologies to everyone I've missed out!

Wants3 · 06/06/2012 12:42

Hv didn't know what the lump was so I have got to see GP ASAP :( I now have the joy of trying to get an appointment and getting out of the house again! D had put on 5 ozs though so he is nearly back up to his birth weight.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/06/2012 13:00

My dog is not cute, I gave him the bone from my lamb shank after dinner last night and he rewarded me by crapping in the nursery during the night. I stood in it with bare feet, blech!

I do wish I could buy more clothes myself, but I'm also grateful to keep finding things in her drawers that I'd forgotten about. Heaps of people seemed to plump for getting her 3-6 months clothes, and she's just about out if her 0-3s now, so I need to go sort through the chest of drawers to see what exactly is in there. No one buys vests, though. M is still wearing some Newborn vests because we haven't many bigger ones and they still just about fit.

Scream, how is your SPD/sciatica now? Hope it is much improved. My SPD is pretty much gone, but I'm still getting the odd shooting sciatic pain down one buttock if I've done a lot of walking or hoovering. Grin at A's first photoshoot - bet the results are beautiful!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/06/2012 13:02

X post Wants - hoping you get a fast doc's appt. Brooking that the lump will be nothing to worry about. And yay for putting on 5oz!

OP posts:
Wants3 · 06/06/2012 14:39

I haven't even managed to pick up the phone yet, let alone make an appointment! I feel a bit of a failure on my first day without DH :( d is not happy unless he is on the boob and he hasn't slept atall

Loopyhasanotherbean · 06/06/2012 15:37

re changing bags, i need one that has enough space to contain nappies for 2 children, at least one change of clothes for each of them (DS has reflux still), muslins for newborn, snacks for DS, teething toys, wipes, infacol, teething powders, water for DS, breast pads, lansinoh, brolly, my handbag type contents, plus any other things i've forgotten to list!

Wants3 · 06/06/2012 16:16

9am tomorrow is the next available appointment. That's going to take some organising to be up,dressed and across town! At least I will have less time to worry before I hopefully get a diagnosis.

DreamingOfPeace · 06/06/2012 18:21

loopy. I need a bigger bag too. From my research, the best of the bigger bags are the skip hop duo deluxe, pink lining ones, err, lots of crying here, will recheck and come back to you. I'm using a babymel one plus a skip hop hand me down but its not working well...

DreamingOfPeace · 06/06/2012 19:20

The skip hop hand me down has millions of pockets though, its just too small for changes of clothes for three children, muslins, beaker and snack for DD etc as you say. Just wonder how huge the other is. purple recommended the Ju Jung be prepared which looks amazing but is £.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/06/2012 19:39

I'm still not using a change bag - just my handbag with change of clothes and spare nappy crammed into it. I could do with a slightly bigger bag but I'm not really sold on the whole change bag thing, where they cost ££ for a plastic bag. I'd rather have a nice large handbag/satchel with baby stuff inside.

Wants, hope you get to the doc ok tomorrow - 9 is v early!

Is anyone else finding that their baby has started to watch telly? I can now sometimes distract M with TV while we eat. I feel a bit bad, but not bad enough to stop doing it.

OP posts:
hawthers · 06/06/2012 19:56

I've got this for my two. It did a toddler in nappies but now (mostly) potty trained
and a baby. It's not a changing bag but its good quality and doesn't look cutesy. It also has an expandable bit to pack more in and is good on pockets.

troop

hawthers · 06/06/2012 19:57

Ooh cross post that one might do you too

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 06/06/2012 21:35

Yep 1000 votes to my Ju Ju Be Prepared! Goes in the washing machine, fits loads in, but doesn't look massive when it isn't full. It was pricey but they come up on Ebay and you can get a bargain as they wear really well.

Have a look at Il tutto, the nicos are very popular, pink lining are very cutesy and get grubby fast and not easy to clean. Sugarjack for high end luxury and to make everything else seem cheap! Wink

Wants it will be nothing, I am brooking so!

Lucky you on the overflowing with baby clothes! I have been given only a few outfits. I do know what you mean about too much though :)

Formula bottles, they often work the first night or too, but then they get used to digesting it and they are back to how they were, see it loads...
