Thread 2.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

dream - I've had the terrible twos from 18 months. Proper drama queen dd1 is. She gets totally in a state where you can't do anything and the best thing to do is leave her to it definitely not like her mother. God, big Wine and Crown to you for 5 hours of crying.

Under tiredness was from the baby whisper site actually (is it Pet that loves that routine?) and someone there on a thread had said that 45 min naps = not tired enough. So I kept her up for half an hour longer past first sleep cues basically and then put her to bed post a small feed. So she slept for 1.5 hours which I like as I know with dd1 that linking sleep cycles in the day is almost like practicing it for night time. Fingers crossed dd2 is the same.

HV came today for three month review - dd2 is 50th for weight and 25th for length so is a chubster. Her big sis however is nearly 98th for height! She's a lanky beanpole like her daddy.

Too - My friends who do swimming say the same even though 'babies' are now two!!

pommedechocolat · 01/06/2012 20:22

By the way dream the photo of tandem feeding and eating on your profile??? Amazing!!

DreamingOfPeace · 01/06/2012 20:57

Aha pomme, that sounds sensible and it clearly worked. I agree if they can self settle after one sleep cycle into the next it must help for doing it at night. Fantastic baby growing of DD2- bf clearly does 'work' if you choose to continue. The tandem feeding pic was inspired by someone else putting one on on the twins thread I post on. My boys look so little there, they're only 2 days old.

I don't know if I'll ever get there with a routine I can get both boys into. I have read that ID twins can quite easily and naturally synchronize eating/ sleeping but fraternal twins are no more likely to than any other siblings. Sigh. DT2 slept for 15 minutes on the boob then started puking and woke himself up. He must be so, so overtired but i cant get him to sleep Confused . I had tea/ bath/ bedtime by myself for the first time tonight and DT2 got absolutely beside himself, totally hysterical. Dh arrived home when I'd finished baths and the dc were all dressed for bed and I've never been so glad to be rescued. I was about to attempt tandem feeding and reading to DD.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 01/06/2012 21:15

Five hours of crying? Oh, you poor thing. Sad You are definitely Crown of the mummies for dealing with that, Dream. That photo is so cool - such tiny little heads! It is amazing how fast their heads grow.

Pomme, M is something like 2nd for height and 55th for weight - definite chubster! Her head circumference is on 75th centile though so some of her weight must be head.

So for a baby to roll from front to back should they push with the leg and arm on one side? I roll by twisting my body - should I encourage that? We did some tummy time this evening and got lots of howling and many, many patches of sick, on sofa, floor mat and me. I think M was a bit overtired for trying new things.

Dream, the tandem feeding photo is fabulous! I am in see.

Too, the swimming with M sounds fabulous! I really must get a wetsuit for DD (anyone have any recommendations?)- some of my close relatives have a pool and, provided it's warm enough and she's had the relevant jabs, I want to get her in there as soon as possible!

pommedechocolat · 01/06/2012 22:15

too Grin at m being mostly head - a is 25th for head too, she is mostly thigh!

musicalmrs · 02/06/2012 00:03

..the last post should have read 'I am in awe', not see. Silly predictive text...

Biscuitsandtea · 02/06/2012 05:36

Oh dear, poorly sick baby here (again Sad). Pretty sure it's a cold but DS is really really snuffly and uncomfortable. And has thrown up two of his feeds over the course of the day. DH and I have been doing shifts to sit with him overnight. He'll do the odd nap in his crib but mainly just doing the old chest frog.

I think if he's so uncomfortable later we might go for the out of hours doctor just to check him out as he is more poorly now than when he had the chickenpox.

In other news I upgraded my iPhone yesterday and it has this marvellous voice control feature and I'm actually dictating what I'm writing without typing. Amazeballs!!!

Seriously it's amazing GrinGrin

I forgotten what everybody else has written and I'm very very tired so going to attempt The Transfer and see if I can get some more sleep.

Biscuitsandtea · 02/06/2012 05:38

Oh and DS is 75th percentile for weight and now only 50th centile for length so another chubbster here Grin

pommedechocolat · 02/06/2012 09:30

Oh no biscuits! Poor ds2. A has had a lot more colds than dd1 had by this point - I think it's all the toddler contact. Brooking for speedy recovery.

We did get some more sleep - up at ten and two and up for the day at half six. I'm fine with that and feel like I've slept for years this am! Now just the journey to the midlands to plan...

jenfraggle · 02/06/2012 09:45

Well we were all up, dressed and breakfasted by 9:15 today. How did that happen?

Wants3 · 02/06/2012 10:51

Hi Jen how are things going for your new little family?
We all had a lie in this morning while D slept but it now means we haven't had breakfast or anything so the whole day will be slightly off kilter!
Sorry to hear about poorly baby biscuits and crying baby dream

PetWoman · 02/06/2012 12:42

Dream your tummy time advice is really interesting and useful - thank you. I put DS on his front yesterday afternoon for the first time and he wasn't impressed - I think he was tired but also wondering why mummy had stuck his face into his playmat. Will have to try again in the morning when he's happier. :( about DT2's 5 hours of crying. My heart goes out to you.

Wants I hope I didn't offend with the 'smug' quip - was meant to be joky!

Pomme that's interesting about the undertired thing and makes sense. I am the one who credits the Baby Whisperer with getting DS to sleep in his basket and for that I will be eternally grateful!

Biscuits how does your phone do emoticons when you're dictating? And how do you access the dictating thing? It would be great for kids with SEN.

Jen hello! How's motherhood going? Sounds like a great start to the day!

Biscuitsandtea · 02/06/2012 13:04

I don't think I can do emoticons Pet - I often have to go back and edit odd word but it is useful to get a large amount of text down quickly Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 02/06/2012 13:07

And it might miss out the odd 'the' here and there Blush

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 02/06/2012 13:44

Wow, am Envy of the iPhone predictive text! I am especially Envy because my laptop is f*cked and I keep having to delete long strings of random letters it thinks would look good in my posts. Am pinching Mum's laptop tomorrow because she never uses it so it is just mouldering away in her kitchen drawer. Yay for a laptop that works! Will have to transfer all my photos and documents, mind, but it'll be worth it.

I really know nothing about all the baby sleep techniques - must try harder and read more books! I found a site yesterday that gave a run-down of some of the stuff and now I feel inadequate.

Jen, wow, 9.15? Am still in my dressing gown now. Blush

We had a v grumpy cross baby at 8am, so I let her co-sleep for the first time in ages and we got to snooze until 11.20! I woke up periodically when she grumped and stuck my nipple back in her mouth. also checked she was breathing when she was quiet Have to do lots of house-cleaning today - Mum and stepfather are coming to spend the night tomorrow and the place is a tip. Boo!

jenfraggle · 02/06/2012 14:08

DH has gone to do the groceries leaving me with DD on my own for the first time. We've just done a feed and nappy change. Is it really stupid for me to feel so proud of myself for doing it on my own?

PetWoman · 02/06/2012 15:29

By the way, think the blocked duct has cleared - combing it in the shower really helped! :)

PetWoman · 02/06/2012 15:33

No, Jen - bask in that pride. It is definitely well-deserved. :)

Wants3 · 02/06/2012 16:01

I took it as jokey pet:)
we had a trip into town today,D slept almost the whole time but now seems to think he has missed out on boob somewhere and is feeding for England!
Possible tmi, but how long should bleeding last after birth? It keeps fading to almost nothing( brownish) and then comes back heavy(red):( I can't remember from last time.

jaggythistle · 02/06/2012 16:08

DS1 is just waking up and I'm so tired i just don't have the energy. i should probably have woken him up before now, but i couldn't get DS2 settled anywhere but the sling today. it makes such a difference when he decides to have sleeps in his crib!

really need to get out to the shops ourselves. I'm sure it won't be chaos if i take DS1 out just before tea time... with DS2 in the sling

go Jen.! it is odd when you start doing stuff by yourself. DH did lots when DS1 was born as I'd ended up with a cs, so when he went back to work i was all nervous at changing!

get well soon baby E.

we all seem to be recovering, all 4 still coughing and runny nosed though.

musicalmrs · 02/06/2012 17:42

Wants, not sure, but mine's still going. Thought it had stopped yesterday, but I was sorely mistaken! Started with the reuseables this morn - we'll see how it goes!

Jen, be proud! :) I was particularly pleased with myself after dealing with a triple whammy for the first time (exploding poo nappy, followed bt wee and being sick on the changing mat!).

Too, I haven't been doing much about sleep techniques either! I've read The Baby Whisperer but haven't implemented most of it - for example there's no way Iz could be eating once every two/three hours at the moment. She's just too hungry!

Jaggy, I find that Iz is a bit clingy during the day often and will only sleep on me or in the sling (which she seems to love). Need to master getting her to sleep in the moses basket or cot during the day...

Pet, SEN kids you say? What do you work as -a teacher? I do some peri teaching (I'm a freelance musician)- working with SEN children at a special school was normally the highlight of my teaching week!

Biscuits, sorry baby E is ill - hope he's on the road to recovery.

Iz is currently sleeping on DH (aww). Have made some thank you cards today, and have spent lots of JL vouchers we were given (online!) on lovely things like a big play mat and a mobile. Need to spend some time sorting all the clothes we were given too, as some of the sizes are completely out..!

A question for all the Lansinoh users - do you sometimes have tingly/itchy nipples after using? I'm hoping it's a skin healing thing - but worried it could be my allergy rearing its ugly head.

Nipples slowly getting better, but Iz has a couple of habits that make it worse - often during the cluster feeds in the evening she'll lose the latch and chow down on the nipple (ow!), and she also sometimes does a huge overdramatic suck and then flings herself off of the nipple when she's finished! That combined with the fact that our latch still isn't perfect means they're still not completely healed, though so much better than they have been.

scarletfingernail · 02/06/2012 19:17

Wants, Musical I'm still bleeding and DD is 5 weeks tomorrow. Like you I thought it was trailing off when she was a week old but then it ramped up again. That's happened several times until the last week when I've now downgaded to using a panty liner rather than maternity pad. I think it stopped completely with DS when he was 6 weeks old.

How's DS2 doing now Biscuits? Sorry to hear he's still been unwell.

Nice one Jen Smile

I hope you're all enjoying your weekend. We're hoping to get out and about over the next couple of days but the weather will put paid to any outdoor days out I think.

Biscuitsandtea · 02/06/2012 19:41

My bleeding was similar too - five or six weeks of bleeding but by the end I was just using a panty liner.

Thanks for thinking of DS2 - he's still poorly Sad. We took him to the OOD this morning just to get him checked over - he has a temp but no chest or ear infection so just keep an eye on him and nip him to the children's hospital of his temp creeps up any more than it already is. It probably seems a bit PSB to go to the docs but just wanted to get him checked, especially as the doctors aren't open until Wednesday again.

My parents took DS1 out for us this afternoon though which was really helpful and I managed to have a few hours sleep - DH was supposed to wake me up so he could have a nap too and he didn't Confused. But hopefully ds2 will be on the mend soon and we'll all get some sleep.

Hope everyone else is well. We also were hoping for some days out this weekend but I guess we'll have to see how DS2 is now.

Biscuitsandtea · 03/06/2012 02:36

DH and I doing 1.5 hour shifts with ds2 again who won't go in the crib.

Get well soon please baby?
