Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 17:54

(the people taking the pic could have splashed out, not my friend, they have a baby Hmm)

Wants3 · 29/05/2012 19:49

D finally slept at 5 after feeding him in our slightly cooler bedroom. He managed 2 hours and then was ready for a feed again and fed from both sides.
Heis still suffering from a sticky eye that he has had since day one. I have tried washing with sterile water and dropping breast milk in. Is there anything else?

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/05/2012 21:13

Pushchairs? I loove pushchairs! Bugaboo bee is what you want for lightweight! I like purple and I am coveting the deep purple for my Cam. I have a real thing for pushchairs, although I am happy(ish) with my three currently... lol

Can you catch me up on what I have missed? I have been sleep deprived to buggery. H has been grumpy since his jabs and due to heat and DD having a nosebleed in the night last night for example... Oh and self inflicted, being unable to sleep until 3am the night before! Hmm

DreamingOfPeace · 29/05/2012 21:35

I'll have a go purple but i bet I miss loads...

biscuits has an E who doesn't want to try sleeping through and is coveting a petit zap upgrade that is hard to justify.

wants has D who is now gaining weight nicely and sleeping annoyingly well.

pomme has started Portugal training and her DD can do it beautifully if naked

hawthers has also made a great start (?finished) on lorry training. F had a big sleep regression but Fx given that shit up now and sleeping better.

Me, too & hawthers feeling the strain of motherhood atm

My boys are still colicky, both howling now :( and still not sleeping.

Were, where am i up to?!

DreamingOfPeace · 29/05/2012 21:43

Interesting... Portugal training and lorry training?!?@ thanks phone. potty training of course Blush

jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 21:46

Grin at the Portugal and lorry training! sounds way more fun than potty training!

pommedechocolat · 29/05/2012 21:51

A fed every two and a half hours today. 'twas bliss. I now need her to put in a good sleep a la m and all will be good. My eyes feel like they migh drop out I'm that tired.

I am ignoring pushchair talk as would love another one but mustn't. I was thinking Maclaren style thing, ie posh stroller as when a has finished with it as pram my beloved bee will be good fir the skip only. My iCandy pear double fine for errands round town but crap for going in car.

DreamingOfPeace · 29/05/2012 22:04

How's ds2 jaggy? Poor little thing. It sounds like a horrible lingering bug at your house... Dh talking about a holiday up your way later in the year :) you definitely won't miss me now with either two buggies a la Baby Jogger R Us or the Monster Buggy.

I've put a new pic on

jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 22:47

cool let me know when to look out for the monster buggy. :)

this bug is doing my nut in. it started last weekend and it was only yesterday that i told the HV that DS2 seemed nearly better. he just gets distressed with the cough and if he struggles to breathe with the snot. DS1 still has a temp tonight.

he took till about 3pm to fall asleep today and i let him sleep till half 5 as i just didn't have the energy to wake him and do something. this has not helped for bedtime Blush

brooking for some sleep for everyone!

musicalmrs · 30/05/2012 01:47

Hi all. I keep finding time to read but not to reply..

Sore nipples much better although still sore! But they're not bleeding now, which is wonderful progress.

DD has been sleeping well, but doing very badly today and tonight. DH is away for the night for work - I wonder if that's been part of the problem. Or if it's a growth spurt - she hasn't napped for any significant amount all day, and fed at least twice each hour, so maybe that's it. Oww...

On the weepy front Too and dream, I was going to say I was doing alright... But have cried this evening out of sheer tiredness and pain, and cried because DH is away. And I think I'll cry if DD doesn't settle after this feed, as I've been trying to get her to sleep since about 7pm...

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 03:25

hope DD settled ok musical. glad your nips are healing

I've got a sniffly nosed chest frog just now. he did well to sleep 2 hours or so without coughing himself awake, but we've been up for a while after some feeding and a nappy change which seemed to get him all awake. his crib is propped up with a full set of cot blocks so he's sleeping at a mad angle!

going to attempt transfer to sloping crib soon..

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 30/05/2012 07:30

Sorry I'm finding it impossible to keep up with the thread at the moment. Yesterday it took me until 16.30 to get myself washed & dressed, little A washed & dressed, and a basic picnic together (sandwiches, salad, dippy things and fizzy wine). My friend arrived at 4.30, and had to go by 6.30. So I spent the whole day prepping for a picnic that only lasted 2 hours! It's SO HARD to get anything done right now!! We had a lovely time though Grin

Yy to the fussy babies in this heat! I've never seen A so ratty! She has been sleeping more at night than usual, but that just means she actually closes her eyes between her 2 hourly feeds, it doesn't mean the gaps between feeds have increased at all!

She's still insanely cute though Grin Just when I'm getting fed up of the feeding marlarkey at 4am, she'll give me her gorgeous sleepy post-feed grin.

Loving all the buggy talk, but I'm not sure exactly when these 2nd stage buggies/strollers are needed? Little A is in her iCandy carrycot at the mo, and at 6 months ish we'll swap her into the pushchair unit on the iCandy. At what age is that no longer suitable (and why?). Well done for the self-control with the Zia Biscuits! Personally I'm hopeless at not buying unnecessary things once I've set my heart on them! Dream any chance of a pic of the monster buggy in full occupancy mode?! I'm sooooooooo intrigued!

Jaggy that sounds like such an evil bug, I really hope you all feel better ASAP. Especially poor little R! Hurray for R's good weight gain. Little A was 10lbs 5oz on Monday Shock which means she's still perfectly tracking the 75th centile, as she has done since birth. What size clothes is R wearing by the way? I'm finding that A fits perfectly in a lot of her 3-6 month pressies - is this unusual at only 5 weeks old?! She's really not very chubby at all, she's just long.

Hurray for Scarlet's DD regaining birth weight as well - well done for your perseverance! I'm still not loving the bfing myself (will it ever stop hurting at the moment of latching on?!) and I think you're in a similar boat, so extra congrats to you!

Huge hugs to all weepy No Brookers. This motherhood thing is hard work, and sleep deprivation is genuinely a form of torture! Personally I think my tiredness has been exacerbated by dehydration in this heat. Even though I'm drinking at least 3 litres of water a day, I think it's all going into my milk (A is drinking constantly) and I find I'm still getting headaches and super dry skin. So fx all No Brookers will feel more hydrated and get more sleep (due to better sleeping babies) now that the heatwave has passed!

Oh, and Scarlet thanks for asking about A's toe. It's still the same unfortunately, but at least it hasn't got worse and she still doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. Will head to the GP if anything changes. Her "6 week check" won't be until 8 weeks sadly, because our GP likes to combine the check with the 8 week jabs.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 30/05/2012 07:36

Such a monster post and I still managed to miss people!

Musical yay for healing nips! You are hardcore to have continued through bleeding! Glad things are improving now.

Wants the sticky eye thing is frustrating isn't it?! Little A has had one sticky eye since birth, and at 5 weeks it still hasn't cleared up. I've been doing the same as you (sterile water and ebm), and just waiting it out.

No Brooking for all those potty training at the mo. Grin at naked potty training!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/05/2012 07:43

Scream - just a quickie re pushchairs. The pushchair bit of your iCandy doesn't become unsuitable, you just normally get to a time where you don't always want to be carting a big old thing like that about. For us, we often used to take the Maclaren in the car but use the bugaboo if it was a Big Walk or I was going somewhere from home ie not in the car. We bought our Maclaren at about 8 mths.

Right have to read ds1 a story then get everyone dressed and breakfasted ready to take ds2 to his kidney follow up appt this morning.

Laters xxx

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 07:53

hi scream, was wondering how you were doing!

R is drifting up towards 75th centile as well. he's in 0-3 at the moment, but can see us having to get the 3-6 month stuff out soon - especially vests and sleepsuits. he is quite long, but does have some squishy baby chub too. DS1 was always at or just below the 50th centile so R seems big to us!

I'd imagine girl's dresses etc might fit earlier than boy's wee trousers- they seem to be made really long. DS1 was always in trousers at least a size too 'small' until recently. we still have to roll up most age 2-3 ones.

Biscuitsandtea · 30/05/2012 08:03

E is 75th centile too and has been in 3-6 sleepsuits for what seems like ages and is in the clothes too now. Agree with Jaggy that boys trousers always too long. I though maybe ds1 just had short legs but his legs were always one size behind his tops.

Mostly with the hot weather though I've had e in short or long rompers and before that he was in aleepsuits all day when he had CP so it's a long time since he's worn 'normal clothes'.

I MUST get out of this bed!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/05/2012 09:45

Would any of you consider camping with your little ones? At say 4mths old?

pommedechocolat · 30/05/2012 09:51

Biscuits - I would never consider camping at all personally :)

As with dd1 baby clothes confuse me - sizes are so different in different shops. Mamas and Papas 6-9 month sleep suits are shorter than Gap 3-6 months sleepsuits? Confusing, much?

Dresses are a pain though as they ride up when feeding so you just end up with material all round their ears.

scream - I think strollers are for a bit later one as they generally only face forward and I can't bear that until about 18 months (except when Ive broken the Bee again). Posh strollers are lightweight and lovely though (I imagine having only and Oh Baby one which drives me bonkers).

Slightly better night last night but still feeling tired. DD1 went to nursery and dh dropped her off and she screamed and wouldn't let go of him which is a bit upsetting :(

pommedechocolat · 30/05/2012 10:41

oo eyes - A has had gunky eye since birth. Anti bio drops cleared it up but it came straight back. They did a swap and it is not an infection just under developed tear duct made worse by the fact that she is prone to snuffles and has a constant cold! HV said it might be 6 months before it gets better - grr. So what I'm saying is see if you can get a swab!

Am going to put a pic of the two dd's up on my profile in a minute as have been inspired by dream's rather delicious brood - loving dd's curls dream! The twins are different sizes too, weirdly you don't expect that even though they are non id.

Think I might have also had a minor victory in persuading A to nap before feed rather than feeding now - all is quiet....

pommedechocolat · 30/05/2012 10:48

Photo up.

Also to clarify - Bugaboo Bee's don't break a lot unless I'm at the helm (I love my Bee like purple does hers). You should see my car...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/05/2012 12:06

Ooooh, loving the photos! What beautiful children there are on this thread! Have put up a new photo too, taken last night to demonstrate how much M looks like my friend's doll.

Brooking for the gunky eyes to clear up sharpish!

Jaggy, you've had such a hard week. Hoping for greatly improved health any minute now.

Baby clothes - M is getting too long for her 0-3s and she's on about the 2nd centile for length. Clothes sizes make no sense!

Biscuits, I might camp...I'd be worried about it getting really cold in the middle of the night, but that's my only sticking point. Where were you thinking of going? The last time I went camping it was freezing and rained and the campsite was all eco-friendly and organic, dontcha know, and had ducks and hens wandering around sh*tting everywhere, so you really had to watch your feet. And the beach was a bit grotty. That was at St Cyrus near Arbroath. We had to go buy duvets from Tesco because we were so cold in the bloody sleeping bags. I would camp somewhere with a nicer beach the next time. Findhorn (near Inverness) is beautiful, if a v long way away.

We have just booked M a nursery place! It is a nursery on the way to work, recommended by the HV and a friend of DH. It seems very nice, much nicer than the one we viewed a week ago. M behaved like an angel the whole time we were there. She was wide awake and she sat on DH's knee and smiled at the nursery manager, and looked like she was listening to every word and looking at everything we were! No crying, not hungry, just really interested in everything around her. Then she fell asleep on DH when we were filling in the registration form. She was being super-charming! Anyway, this nursery seems to fit our needs much better - it provides all meals, whereas the last one you had to take lunch and dinner in with you; it has a much cosier baby room that seems more welcoming; it's on the way to work; it's open for 50 weeks a year rather than 51; it's a bit cheaper; it's got longer opening hours (7.30 am to 6pm) which will be easier for work; it does playing-in-the-woods modules for older kids; they do horse riding when they're older; the kids seemed happy and friendly - lots of them said hello to us unprompted; we were greeted by the manager and given an introduction to the nursery before we went for our tour, rather than being taken around by a member of staff who completely overwhelmed us...Anyway, so far so good!

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 12:18

aw we used to take our wee caravan to Findhorn all the time when i was tiny too! i can't actually remember what it was like cos it was so long ago.

we don't really do camping either, like home comforts a bit too much.

can't see all these nice photos on my phone! if i get on the pc i might do one too. then take it down tomorrow due to paranoia!

don't want to tempt fate, but we all seem slightly better today...

we only got a second cheap buggy to go on holiday. DS1 hasn't used it much for a while but it's handy to chuck in just in case.

scarletfingernail · 30/05/2012 12:20

Another baby with a gammy eye here. She's also had it since day 1. I believe it's caused by a blocked tear duct. I've been cleaning it regularly with cotton wool and cooled boiled water. I've also been gently massaging the area with one finger between the bridge of her nose and the corner of her eye which supposedly helps unblock it.

Gorgeous photos Dream and Pomme. I'm tempted to put one on too as I took a really cute one yesterday of DS holding DD.

Good work on the nursery place Too.

scarletfingernail · 30/05/2012 12:27

Photo uploaded, will be taking it off again tomorrow.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 30/05/2012 12:28

Hello! I have a pic up of my boy this morning if u fancy a nosy :)Lovely to see ur broods!

Pomme I am thinking of selling my bee! Shock

Wants keep it up with the milk and also try massaging under the eye as could be a blocked tear duct which is v. common.

Dream thanks for the catch up :)
