Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 05:22

Do you think this colour looks 'girly'? I can't decide.... Confused

pommedechocolat · 29/05/2012 06:47

Nope biscuits I don't.

A settled not too bad at three but just after drifting off dd1 was up because she'd taken a wooden music toy to bed with her and then rolled on it...Hmm

Is it the heat? Will we ever sleep again?

PetWoman · 29/05/2012 07:16

I don't think dark purple is too girly, but I know what you mean about having to think twice about it. Interested by your buggy talk. ATM we just have a second hand Quinny Buzz but I know I'll want something lightweight and compact once DS is bigger. Is the Petite Star Zia a top choice then?

Jaggy so sorry you're all still suffering. Not being able to taste or smell is miserable too. Can you take those extra strong cold and flu remedy tablets when breastfeeding? Sounds like a really nasty virus - but it must will go soon...

Too I think everything is harder when we're tired, and that includes regulating our emotions and worries. Sounds like your DH is being great - no brooking that things improve for both of you.

DS had his 8 week jabs yesterday. He was just ready for a nap when we got to the surgery, so I was relieved that he only cried a tiny bit and then fell fast asleep. But by the afternoon he was really unhappy and would only sleep on my shoulder. When DH got home he pointed out that DS had a temperature (I'd felt him a few times but hadn't thought to compare how he felt to how I felt, if that makes sense - as soon as I felt his forehead, then mine, I could tell he was much too hot). So we administered calpol and he had a reasonable night. Though this morning he was whimpering and grunting because he was quite clearly trying to pass wind, and we had to smile when a few fine trumps finally emerged!

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 07:33

Ooh Pet I love buggy chit chat. I don't know whether the Zia is a 'top' choice - it all depends so much on what your priorities are.

We had the bugaboo for ds1 and then got a Maclaren techno XT. For us, space in the car wasn't too much of an issue as we both have decent sized cars but it had adjustable handles (DH = tall) and you can see the flap bit at the front? When they're still small that folds up to extend the seat so their whole leg is supported until their knees are far enough along to bend at the end of the seat iyswim. I liked that idea.

We bought the Zapp only really because it was cheap second hand and I wanted something to leave at my in-laws house. But then we found it to be really useful as ds1 got bigger and still needed an occasional pushchair. As I say though, it doesn't recline. In latter times we used to take the zapp in case ds1 fell asleep in the car and then we needed to go somewhere (ie other than when we got home). But it would have been handy if it would have reclined - hence my interest in the Zia.

There's one of those Zia's for £30 second hand near me on Gumtree and I'm tempted..... Really though I don't probably need it now. I mean mostly I think we'd still use the bugaboo or the Maclaren - both were v comfy for ds1. But now I've got the idea in my head I'm a bit obsessed! Blush

Oh that's the other thing about the bugaboo - it doesn't recline as much as rotate. So ds1 was still in a sitting position just tilted back. He slept in it but slept better in the Maclaren which was properly flat.

I could literally wang on all day about pushchairs......

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 07:35

I really like the purple colour but I don't want people to 'assume' DS is a girl because of it iyswim? Although our zapp was blue so if he had been a girl he'd probably still have had to go in that.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 07:39

Oh and hope DS perks up today Pet post jabs.

I can't believe ds2 has his second lot next week - only seems like 5 seconds since the first ones.

Too when are your 12 week ones given that M only had he 8 week ones last week?

scarletfingernail · 29/05/2012 08:47

Morning brookers. I've not had time to post since Friday, I'm finding that I barely get a minute to myself. I need to add my DH to the grumpy DH list. It was almost a relief yesterday morning when he went back to work. DS has been waking in the night crying every night since last Weds. I'm putting it down to the weather as there's nothing wrong with him. He screams for Daddy so I've been leaving it to Daddy to sort him out. I've enough on my plate feeding DD all night and he doesn't help with that. The way he keeps moaning about how tired he is and everything he's done anyone would think I did f**k all.

The feeding is working at last though. DD has put on 8oz in 11 days and is now the exact same weight as the day she was born. So so relieved. Am still sticking with BF for now.

Biscuits I have a Petite Star Zia. Can I ask what it is you no longer like about your Maclaren? That's the model I want for DD, I don't think I'm going to use the Zia. [Undecided emotion]. It was fine while DS was still tiny, but by the time he was a year old it no longer seemed sturdy enough for him. It's quit flimsy, wobbles a bit and is very hard to steer and push with one hand. On the plus side it's very lightweight, folds up really small and fully reclines.

((((hugs)))) for Too and Hawthers I hope today's better for you both.

Well done for D's weight gain Wants

How's A's toe looking now Scream?

Get well soon Jaggy

I've forgotten everything else for now, but hope everyone's well.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 09:23

Boo to tired DHs all round. I swear they just forget that we have had weeks, if not months of broken sleep. Plus you generally start off your time with a child totally knackered having been pg (tiring), possibly (probably?) broken sleep while pg (also tiring), oh and then giving birth, which is also pretty knackering!

I still like my Maclaren Scarlet. Was only thinking of the Zia to complement the Maclaren, for days when I need something smaller. I love the extending seat and adjustable handles on the Mac. The only downsides I could think of would be that it can tip quite easily (if you've got bags on the back and DS gets out), but I bought some buggy weights to help with that a bit. But then my bugaboo would tip if I had stuff on the back and DS got out.

You're welcome to have a look at my Maclaren if you want Scarlet to see if you like it?

What I am going to do with my zapp though is take the seat fabric off today as we have maxi cosi adapters for it so if I take the seat off I can take it out when I just want to plonk the car seat on, instead of having to take my bugaboo wheels. Might even leave it in my boot.

Watch this space for the fun and games of trying to get the seat fabric back on in a few months....

To be honest the more I think about it the more I think I don't really need it. I might reconsider when we get to the stage where we started using the Zapp last time. By that time I could sell my bugaboo too.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 09:33

And awesome weight gain TeamScarlet Grin. Well done.

How old is dd now Scarlet - I'm forgetting where everyone is.......

jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 10:15

R is 6 weeks old tomorrow biscuits.

it was exactly that sore face and teeth thing, paracetamol has helped. i think the decongestant stuff in cold tablets might not be good while bfing, will need to check.

had DS2 in the sling for a while there to get DS1 ready, he seemed happy upright.

oh pants, another DS2 nappy...

Wants3 · 29/05/2012 10:32

I have had two dirty nappies this morning, yay! I had only been getting one in the whole day so the feeding must be improving. D currently fast asleep on me after a feed. I should put him down really and do some jobs but he looks so comfy:)

jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 13:31

good pooping D!

i could just curl up and cry right now. my face hurts and i just took about an hour to get DS1 down for a nap including a 3 nappy run of DS2, (then feed DS2) DS1, DS2, grab cereal bar, painkillers and juice and feed again.

worrying myself daft about wee DS2, his cough is horrible and his temp was up to almost 38 for a bit. DH seems to think there will be nothing the doctor can do for essentially a cold, but i can't decide. thing i might see if i can at least get a telephone consultation or something.

Wants3 · 29/05/2012 13:49

jaggy poor you, feeling rough and this heat! D is abit unsettled today. I feel he has been permanently attached to a boob. I attempted to walk him around to work but he just wailed in the pram so we came home and am currently back in the chair feeding:)

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 13:53

jaggy if you're at all concerned it can't help to speak to a doctor - the worst they can say is 'there's nothing I can do' and you've not lost anything?

Wants could it be a growth spurt? There is one at a week isn't there? Ish? I always find not only does ds2 eat more with a growth spurt, he seems less settled between feeds and doesn't sleep as well at night. Or it could of course just be all this heat!

jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 14:00

I've phoned the surgery and am just waiting for the duty doc to call back.

got call back, got to take him to get seen.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 14:02

Good luck - hope its nowt serious Jaggy xx

They always like to be cautious I guess with the littlies Smile

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 29/05/2012 14:47

Hope doc can help, jaggy. Maybe doc can give you something for your face pain too.

Excellent weight gain, Scarlet, yay!

Good nappy work, Wants!

Biscuits, I don't think that buggy is too girly either. My pram (Quinny Buzz) is bright turquoise and it is going to do for all children of either sex I should have.

M has to wait 4 weeks between sets of jabs. We still don't have the next appt through, grr!

We had 7 hours sleep last night, 11pm to 6 am!

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 29/05/2012 15:08

doc just wanted to check R didn't have bronchiolitis, but his wee lungs sounded fine. he'd heard him coughing in the background and didn't like the sound of it. he does have a slightly raised temp. luckily it was the nicest bestest doc that was on call today, he says to bring him back if we're worried later on. he is a v nice guy.

feels better to have done something even if DH said 'i told you they'd not be able to do anything!'

i was too sleepy to think to ask for help for me Blush

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 16:21

Glad the doc looked after ds2 for you Jaggy. Better to get it checked out. And the doc obv thought it was worth going in so tell DH to stick that in his pipe and smoke it next time he says the doc didn't do anything Grin

Once again I find myself typing the sentence 'Envy of your sleep Too' GrinGrin. Cor, that M is good at sleeping! Like pomme I keep thinking that DS2 maybe could do it, but there's always something like a cough, or CP, or the heat etc. he was mainly windy overnight and I think if he could deal with the wind better (which happens automatically and instantly at 13 weeks right?) he might not have woken for a feed? You know, I feel like he wanted a feed because he'd been awake for so long . We'll get there.... Eventually.....

I like to tell myself that there will be a day when he starts mainly sleeping through, although we don't know when it it. But I'm one night closer to that unknown date! Grin

hawthers · 29/05/2012 16:29

We got 8-4 last night woo woo! And yes biscuits no winding after 13 weeks nope def not and fo sure f doesn't need it after every feed hmm no that is def

hawthers · 29/05/2012 16:32

Not the case*

  • there may be a lie or two included in the previous post

Hmm f been sleeping all afternoon - should I try and get him to be more perky so he'll sleep tonight.... Is there any relationship between day and night sleep?

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 16:33

Excellent - always good to have that sort of confirmation Hawthers. Grin

Does anyone think this is a practical colour for a pushchair?

DreamingOfPeace · 29/05/2012 17:18

biscuits my boys pushchair that I bought from the lady in the village after chasing her down the street (remember that?!) Is purple. No-ones assumed they're girls yet.

too, will reply properly later but yy to tears, feelings of not coping (esp when all three crying here), feeling stressed and anxious. I check breathing v regularly too, even if i think i can hear both chuntering just in case I'm wrong and its only one. Agree work counselling would be good if you can get it. Why wouldn't you just as you're on ml? I bet they far rather then than when you're working.

In a rush, but love love love my baby jogger city mini. Both the single and the double. Lightweight, manoeuvreable, fab sun hoods, lie flat, one hand fold pet . My version of winner winner chicken dinner :-)

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 17:44

Yes I remember the pushchair Dream Grin.

The only reason I questioned the whole purple thing was because a friend of mine has just bought the purple bugaboo cameleon and I had really like the idea of it but when I saw it in the flesh I was surprised that it looked quite girly. Maybe it's just a pinky purple or something? Not that it really makes any odds.

And anyway, I think I've talked myself out of buying one altogether for the time being. However when I took the cover off my zapp it's a bit damage down one side (this isn't resulting from my incompetence, I could see it was already damaged but it looks worse now I've taken it out). So if we can't repair it I'm back to square one anyway Grin

Ds2 has also slept a lot today Hawthers - I suspect I might pay for this tonight.... Brooking that F has got a taste for 8 hour sleeps now and never looks back Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 17:47

This picture shows it looking kinda pink. You'd have thought they could at least have splashed out on a child to put in it though wouldn't you?
