Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

DS1 had a runny eye for months i think, i also did the massaging gently and it went away eventually. can't remember when, sorry!

i don't have a great pic of my boys together, DS1 wasn't keen on holding DS2 till recently. he gave him a wee kiss and said he loved him this morning though. :)

Wants3 · 30/05/2012 13:10

biscuits I found out today that D was exposed to chicken pox, did E suffer too badly? My main concern is if he gets a temp as he is too little for calpol ATM.

scarletfingernail · 30/05/2012 13:19

Wants I had a concern that DD may have been exposed to chicken pox when she was about a week old. I was worried about the temperature thing too. When I mentioned it to the GP he said that they are allowed Calpol before 2 months, it's just that they prefer the baby to be seen by a professional at that age for a correct diagnosis. They will then advise on the dosage if Calpol is needed.

musicalmrs · 30/05/2012 14:01

Started this post hours ago, so apologies if all these comments are now outdated...!

Jaggy, finally got her asleep at about 2.30am, and she slept through until 7am - hurrah. Is the sloping crib helping?

Pomme, I'm having the same clothing confusion! We've been given lots and lots of lovely gifts, but it's amazing the variations in size in 0-3 month things! Some of the dresses fit DD already, others look like they'd swamp her! I love the dresses - we've been given lots - but I agree with you with regard to impracticality. Other people love seeing her in dresses though, so I'm tending to dress her up if we're going out...!

Biscuits, I'm not sure I would... but I don't know much about four month olds...!

Dream, gorgeous picture of your DCs! As is your pic Pomme- big sis looks happy! Purple, another lovely pic - and is that a bitti tutto I see? I'm hoping to start using DD's later this week - need a nappy pail first. Was also given some nappies to test (I have a friend who works in market research, and they needed some newborns!), so once I've adequately trialed those I'm free to move to the reuseables! Need to spend time resizing them all first mind... Scarlet, the pic of DS and DD is SO cute!

Will try and upload one of DD at some point...

Very pleased with myself as I have actually got round to doing some ironing for the first time without DH being here! There's still a mountain of it to do, but at least I've made a start..

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 14:04

Your photos are so lovely guys!

ok, better do mine.

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 14:18

done, will disappear tomorrow too i think!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/05/2012 14:57

Afternoon all.

Gorgeous gorgeous pics all round! What an attractive bunch of broods you all have :)

I've put up a pic of DS1 and DS2 that was taken a few weeks ago, and one of DS2 from the weekend just gone. As with the others, they'll be gone tomorrow.....

Wants - hope D avoids the CP. E wasn't too bad with it really. I don't think we gave him calpol. We did for DS1 once when he had a temp but not for DS2. DS2 had had his 8 week jabs a few days before and we'd given him calpol then though. He didn't seem too bad though. On one occasion I gave him an oatmeal bath and applied calamine but that was it really. Oh and I put socks on his hands to stop him accidentally scratching them and just left him in sleepsuits all the time to be most comfy. Fortunately it was before this hot weather.

Hope he avoids it though :)

jaggythistle · 30/05/2012 15:06

Aw biscuits, the one of them snuggled in bed has made me all teary again, it's awfy sweet :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/05/2012 16:43

Such beautiful babies!

Hope you avoid the dreaded pox, Wants.

Hey, I have started a new 'diet' called Eat More To Weigh Less. Sounds good, right? So far I'm on about Day 3 and I feel much healthier. I haven't weighed myself yet, but it all started with this thread I get 2500 cals a day to allow for bf, and basically I have to eat healthily and try to be pretty high-protein/lower carb/good fats like fish, eggs etc. I think it's making M happier. This is a totally unscientific opinion, but she is starting to laugh and it is adorable, and she just seems calmer. It could be total coincidence and this was always the week she was going to learn to laugh, of course.

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 30/05/2012 17:35

I read something about protein being good in bm for babies too. I'm still eating way too much and need to get a grip. I'm blaming sleep deprivation as I constantly feel like I'm in need of an energy fix.

Gorgeous babies and toddlers guys! Love the cuddling photo biscuits!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/05/2012 17:40

I'm with you Pomme - constantly grabbing something for a quick energy boost in between feeding on or the other of my boys! I even don't fancy chocolate often but can't bring myself to pick a healthy snack - I have a terrible attitude to food Blush.

musicalmrs · 30/05/2012 18:22

Biscuits, the cuddling photo is lovely. Lovely picture too Jaggy!

Uploaded a picture of DD from a couple of days ago.

I'm quite a healthy eater normally.. but we've run out of fruit Blush. I went to get a banana earlier and discovered a huge amount of flies in the fruit bowl - yick. So I've been on the unhealthy snacks too...

I have a BF question! Some places recommend feeding from one breast, letting the baby come off naturally then offering the second. Others recommend feeding from one breast, and if feeding is reinitiated up to an hour afterwards, to stick to the same breast for the hind milk. What do people recommend..? I seem to be doing more of the one hour approach, but offering the second breast if I want to tank her up (e.g. before going out) or if she still seems really hungry and my breast seems empty. I haven't a clue if this is right/sensible though.

scarletfingernail · 30/05/2012 18:28

Loving all the photos of our gorgeous little ones.

I'm not sure about the BF question musical. But I tend to do the same as you if she's snacking.

hawthers · 30/05/2012 20:20

Photo of f from last week on my profile too for a limited time only. Those brooking babies are b-e-a-u-tiful.

I've managed to get my hair done today....with f! And it was a full on 3 hr appt (much needed). He was so good and Hung out in the pushchair, then fed then slept then sat on my lap while I had my hair cut. A bit random tbh but the hairdressers were lovely about it and f charmed them all - he is a very smiley baby. Feel so much better to have had a good bit hacked off and reblonded. Def helped with my mood.

How are too and dream doing?

wants boo to cp won't d have some immunity from you if you've had it?

musical I offer both boobs at each feed mostly as I find f will take more from a second than if I reoffer the first but I do make sure he feeds long enough on each to get the fatty stuff and then offer the second one first at the next feed.

Pushchairs I have a bee too and I love it although had to get a p and t for the pair of boys to go in and I hate it. Its so big and heavy and I've yet to unfold it without knacking myself.

Got to get some food - will finish off check in on the nightshift. Laters brookers

DreamingOfPeace · 30/05/2012 21:07

musical, your DD is lovely and so alert. The LC I saw told me same boob if under an hour between feeds. Ha. Not my problem, one boob feeds one baby each here.

biscuits, they look lovely!!! Ds2 looks so happy and chilled out in that picture, like he's never any trouble at all

Your DD is so beautiful pomme but she looks energetic even in her pic! Lol. You'd not really take them for twins if we did the toddler twins/ triplets swap ;-)

In fact, us Brookers are very lucky to not have an ugly child between us. And its cheered me up a treat looking at all your pics, thanks everyone. Grin Thanks

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 31/05/2012 01:50

I should definitely be trying to sleep right now (even tho A is still using me as a dummy pretending to feed.) However while I was out earlier I had a quick look at the thread and realised you were all putting photos up! I've been dying to get home to my laptop ever since!

All of the No Brooker DCs are GORGEOUS! Every single one! I particularly love the pics of teeny tiny newbies with angelic older siblings! So so cute! I've put up a pic of my LO just for 24 hours, so she can join the No Brooker picture party!

Wants I'm No Brooking that D avoids cp!

Too thanks for the diet thread link! I desperately need to get dieting (the "magical breastfeeding diet" appears to be part of The Great Breastfeeding Myth, along with pain-free feeds!)

Too tired to respond directly to anyone else, please forgive me! Little A and I need to be up early tomorrow, because we're heading into central London to visit all my work colleagues! Fingers crossed for a happy charming chilled out baby, not an over-heated grumpy madam!

Biscuitsandtea · 31/05/2012 02:59

Yup, that's DS1 Dream, literally NO trouble whatsoever when he's asleep Grin.

More gorgeous pics to entertain me on the nightshifts tonight - thank you Smile

Scream brooking that A is delightful and charming at work for you. I have no doubt that she will be Smile.

I almost feel a bit guilty with all this diet talk Confused. Not guilty enough to actually do anything I suspect. I agree that the Breastfeeding Diet must be part of the Great BF myth Scream.

Right, the milk monster has finished (and has done an almost 7 hour block of sleep tonight, feeding at about 7:30 then 2:30 Smile whoop whoop), so I'm away to bed. Night night xx

jaggythistle · 31/05/2012 03:18

I'm hoping to take R to work soon too, his big brother was pretty good so hope he is too. DS1 did cry at some colleagues before passing out asleep though! he then sat on my slightly scared of babies friend for a while!

R is having a good feed right now, he's struggled a bit coughing tonight so I'm glad he's settling. can't decide if his chest sounds a bit rattly or if it's snot in his nose. the doctor said the main thing to watch out for was him struggling to feed, doesn't seem to be a problem!

i think the magical bf diet worked for me last time. i have photos of me at about 10 weeks in my pre-DS1 jeans. i kept losing weight for over a year, then failed to notice it had stopped and put loads on while grumpy and ttc. i think it helped that i walked miles every day to get to the expressing room at work twice a day. i used to go really fast as i felt guilty for abandoning my workmates!

have to say it doesn't seem quite so effective this time, can't quite do up those jeans yet. need to get out walking.

jaggythistle · 31/05/2012 03:25

scream i got your photo to load on my phone, yay! A is super cute.

i think R is asleep in quite a lot of our photos! not as much time for photography as with the PFB for us!

did i tell you that nearly all the pg ladies i know have had their babies now? there were loads due April/may/june. not got out to meet the one down the road yet, stupid cold bug! one more due on Friday, exciting.

ok, attempting transfer of snot baby...

PetWoman · 31/05/2012 05:38

Hey all,

Am way behind - been lurking but no time to respond as am visiting my parents for a week. Wish I could see your pics but am on phone.

Think I've got a slightly blocked duct situation: was sore and lumpy on Tues night so massaged it when DS was feeding. Still a bit sore though. Any advice?

Biscuits thanks for the buggy info! My priorities would be something light which I can fold and carry one-handed, would fit in the car easily, could recline, not too wide so I don't block aisles in shops etc etc. Anyone know a buggy like this?! Oh, and would have to be good on cobbles cos of where I live...

Don't think I'd go camping with a baby. But that's maybe cos I don't like camping much!

Jaggy glad you're feeling better. Hope all babies with hunky eyes improve soon.

Musical my midwife said same boob within an hour, like Dream said.

Wants really hope D avoids chicken pox!

Too the nursery sounds great, and M sounds so cute...

Can't remember anything else - really sorry.

PetWoman · 31/05/2012 05:40

Hunky = gunky

Biscuitsandtea · 31/05/2012 07:28

Ooh boo for blocked ducts Pet. What I've done in the last is:

  • keep on with the massaging. if you can, try to massage the sore bit while DS is feeding. If not massage it before a feed, and probably after too?
  • try massaging it in the shower or having a hot bath? if I have a bath my boobs are too big to go under the water so only a shower worked for me Blush
  • also in the shower I used to massage it with a wide toothed comb - just strokes towards the nipple.
  • they suggest a warm compress before feeding and a cold one after. I used to sleep with a hot water bottle on the sore bit (that'll be lush in this weather Hmm), but tbh could never be bothered to get a cold compress in the middle of the night.

Hope that helps and it clears up soon.

Biscuitsandtea · 31/05/2012 07:31

Oh and thanks all for the thoughts on camping. We're also not that keen on camping and have no camping stuff but a friend asked if we wanted to go. My initial thought was 'errrrr no ta'. If it was just us an ds1 I would think about it but seems a bit of a hassle with a baby.

pommedechocolat · 31/05/2012 08:15

.

I need some sleep. My current position on bf is that I hate it. A has been going 2.5 hours in the day between feeds yesterday and Tues which is nice but has then added in an extra feed during night time.

I always said my first aim was 16 weeks to cover vaccines etc and as I'm only 2.5 weeks off that may just get to there and then give up. I just don't think it works for me very well.

Biscuitsandtea · 31/05/2012 09:15

You're doing a grand job and you've done so well already. It's so unfair that it's so hard to feed these little babies isn't it. Whichever way you feed her though she's jolly lucky to have such a lovely mummy Smile
