Hello all

In case anyone was wondering, DS1 got on really really well with his potty training, day 4 result was potty 15 ish, loo 6 and floor 0. In your face floor! Ha! He also managed to poo in the potty 3 times with only minor collateral damage.

Even managed to impress my hard to impress mil. I'm so proud of my big boy. He hasn't got stressed about any of it. nursery again tomorrow though and I read them the riot act so would hope that they will follow through and fingers crossed he gets on ok there as well.

Phew early days I know but was expecting it to go much worse than it has already.

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 07:13

well done hawther's DS1!

i agree scream, avoid sunscreen and go for hat and cover up. also no water as your milk is fine. does it not actually change to account for the hot weather?

I'm not going to wish DS2 to stop feeding again, we got an hour of screaming instead till i nearly went a bit nuts. he eventually passed out on my knee (i have a feeding pillow that was lying on) and i woke up to find him there. after a feed and change he did sleep in his crib briefly.

he's still a bit frantic feeding this morning.

fed up of everyone coughing and sniffing. could hear poor DS1 coughing in his bed last night too. DH thinks he might have a 'mild flu' as he's a bit sore...

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 07:47

since i did that last post, I've been up and had a shower and... DS2 has been happily asleep in bed! typical. he must be needing it after a day of feeding frenzy though.

pommedechocolat · 23/05/2012 07:50

I think milk does change jaggy.

Well done ds1 hawthers - that's impressive. How old is he again?

Quite quiet here. Where's biscuits, she's normally around lots? Hope all's okay with her.

Wants3 · 23/05/2012 07:51

Hello, sorry I didn't join you last night but I was sleeping :) runs away before being lynched
ds3 did really well, settling in the Moses basket between 2 hourly feeds and then went from 3.20 am til 6.45 before waking me again. I am aware that it is day 3 for me now so I am expecting the hormonal roller coaster and hoping my milk will come in.

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 08:17

i don't think anyone will begrudge you sleep wants!

I'd probably get more if i wasn't on here so much! Grin

PetWoman · 23/05/2012 08:37

Musical your nipples are bleeding and it's going to take at least a week for them to heal??? You must be made of steel if you are still coping with bfing! I would be slapping on the nipple shields by now, but well done if you feel you can keep going without!

The blanket draping was when the basket was empty, so the cat didn't start thinking it was a good place to sleep. Until he was 6 weeks old DS didn't sleep in the basket much anyway (he was usually in the pram downstairs with me, even at night) so by then the cat was sort of used to him and it.

Myth that's quite a birth story! Glad the last bit was quick at least. How are you getting on now?

Too I share all your questions about the weather! DS was a bit fussy yesterday and I think it was because he was a bit hot. I had him in a short-sleeved white romper, lying outside in the pram in the shade with a bit of a breeze, as it seemed cooler there than inside. I fed him a bit more, too, in case he wa thirsty. But I want to take him for a dog-walk in the sling shortly and am worried that he'll be too hot cuddled up to me. Also I haven't got any special suncream for him. Up until yesterday it really wasn't a problem, was it?! I think I'll find some of my suncream for his legs and arms, and use a sunhat to shade his face. He usually enjoys the sling so I guess if he cries I'll know he's too hot, and head back home.

Pomme yay for good 12 week jabs and a possible feed drop!

Jaggy so sorry you're all suffering with colds, plus little DS2 sounds like he's feeding for the nation there! Can you just take him to bed with you so you can feed and snooze, while DH looks after DS1?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/05/2012 08:38

Morning all - hope you're all ok.

I've been lurking but no time to post! Hence I've probably or gotten lost of what I've read. Lovely to see musical, Myth and wants over here though - look forward to jen being here soon too.

Lovely birth story Myth - quite dramatic and long though! Hope your stitches etc are more comfortable. I had a second degree tear this time too so you have my sympathy!

Hawthers - awesome effort by DS1! Amazing! Hope nursery sort out their end of the bargain today.

Ummm I've forgotten everything else. Brooking that all those with sore nips see some improvement soon. And also brooking for all poorly brookers (big and small) to be better soon.

All ok here, just poodling along doing kind of average :) Weigh day today for ds1 so we'll see how that goes.

Hope everyone else is ok, and sorry for anything I've forgotten xxx

PetWoman · 23/05/2012 08:42

Damn fine potty-work there, Hawthers ! hope the nursery do better today and the floor continues to lose out to the potty. :)

Wants that's a great start! Am no brooking that the hormones are kind to you and DS3 goes on sleeping well...

Biscuitsandtea · 23/05/2012 08:45

Oh yes, suncream - I have bought done specific nivea baby stuff. I'm totally paranoid about the sun - it hadn't really occurred to me to not put it on him yet? Wasn't an issue for DS1 as he was 6+ mths before we had any sun!

I had a sunhat too for him that I bought last time it was sunny and it doesn't fit any more so I've had to buy him another.

Ds2 fed a lot yesterday afternoon after we'd been at the park and it was HOT. Agreed that no need for water if bf - I think I've heard your milk changes too for them.

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 09:12

DS1 didn't see any sun till he was about 8 months old so I'm at a bit of a loss too for tiny ones. i think the general advice (will have to Google to see if I'd imagined it) was to keep under 6 months old out of the sun where possible. i think I'm just worried about the sun cream with us being a bunch of sensitive types! rashes at the drop of a hat.

need to get both boys a sun hat actually. I'm meeting a work friend today and going to the shops, arranged at weekend before it all went mad. hopefully DS2 will sleep in the pram a bit. DS1 and DH are out to a toddler activity. might let DS1 choose his own hat next time we're out though.

need more Lansinoh for DS2's expensively maintained bum. seems to be working though, protecting his bum and letting the raw bits heal.

DS1 is quite chirpy today which is nice. DH just told him it was time to come and get ready and dressed "no thank you Daddy" he says. Hmm

Biscuitsandtea · 23/05/2012 09:24

Yeah I reckon out of the sun wherever poss has to be best. I kept ds2 in the pram yesterday when we were out but then depending on what direction you're waking his little face sometimes had sun on it.

Biscuitsandtea · 23/05/2012 09:25

I'm surprised ds1 has seen any sun yet Jaggy what with being in Scotland WinkGrin

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/05/2012 10:35

This week so far has been hot hot hot in Scotland, Biscuits! DH has a beautiful hot pink back after his lawn mowing efforts on Monday. I think he burned through his Tshirt yesterday. He's very fair, as is M.

Oh, howling baby - damnit! I just want to MN in peace!

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/05/2012 11:43

Grin at Jaggy's DS1!

I do think pram would be better than sling in this weather, but the nicest walks near here are not pram-friendly at all. Still, some of the nicest walk is shady.

Hawthers, that's some excellent pottying! Well done DS1!

Pomme, we're not getting the Week 8 jabs until Friday, when M will be 11 weeks Hmm, so goodness knows when the Week 12 jabs will be! I haven't had an appt for them yet.

When I was in Tesco last night a whole packet of fancy deluxe Magnums might have fallen into my trolley. Blush I honestly thought they were mini Magnums but they aren't. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it...

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 12:17

i think those Magnums will contribute to a lovely big happy baby, clearly the 5 large bags of minstrels that i have consumed since DS2 was born helped with his super weight gain. that's only one bag a week y'know...

i need some summer bf friendly clothes. i am sweltering away at the shops feeding DS2 right now. it's not so bad once they are bigger and latch on by themselves, but i like my flappy bf tops while we get used to it! even if DS2 likes to 'help' with his hands and lift the flap just when I've got my bra open...sorry people in the coffee shop. :) i do have a couple of t-shirts, but I'm too fat to fit into them yet.

aw, a lady just gave me a big smile when she saw DS2 tucked in feeding Grin

he's going to sleep so hopefully I'll get my shopping done now.

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 12:20

my bum's getting numb on this bench!

jaggythistle · 23/05/2012 16:43

do not take a growth spurting baby to the shops.

a quick trip will turn into a neverending marathon after all the feed stops! plus he hardly settled in his pram so i had him on my shoulder plus the pram to drive! all the old (and not so old) ladies in the shopping centre were v impressed though, we had to stop to speak to lots of them.

had a nice coffee with my work friend first.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/05/2012 17:07

Tanning and babies do not mix. Am concerned that M may be ingesting suntan lotion. Oh, and I am so not bikini-ready! And may never be so again. If anyone could see into my garden I would be wearing ninety layers, but they can't, so I have only been insulting my own eyes. Might stick to tanning my legs from here on.

OP posts:
scarletfingernail · 23/05/2012 17:33

Did you have DS1 with you as well Jaggy Very brave woman if you did. I've yet to venture out alone with DS and DD. I think I'll wait until I'm driving again, going for a walk and expecting DS to walk with me I'm a bit Hmm about. Have any of you got a buggy board? I was thinking of buying one, but not sure whether they're any good or not?

Grin at the Magnums Too. That keeps happening to me too, only with Cadbury Caramels. I'm addicted to those at the moment.

Great potty training Hawthers.

I think I'm at the point of introducing formula. I'm struggling to keep up with DD and it's making me stressy and miserable. I get no help during the week apart from on a Tuesday and DH is out the house for 12 hours per day. DS only goes to nursery for 3 hours, 3 mornings per week and the rest of the time he's home with me. I feel guilty telling him he's got to wait all the time because I'm busy feeding DD. The house is a tip all around me. Just getting a shower and something to eat for myself every day is ambitious, it's all I can do to make sure DS is fed at the moment. DD is currently asleep for the first time today Shock and DS is making a huge mess with his paints, but I'm just grateful to have 5 mins for myself. I feel as though feeding has been going well compared to how I did with DS, hence the dilema. With him formula was for his own good, I just didn't have any milk. This time it's working fine, it's just that DD is either feeding or whinging to be fed. All the time. DH feels that the only time he spends with DD is while she's shrieking for me as it's while I'm in the loo or getting dressed and I can see that he's definitely not bonded with her as well as he did with DS Sad I'm just thinking of the bigger picture and wondering if formula will help us regain some sort of normal family life.

I didn't get as far as this BFing DS so I don't know how long it carries on constantly for. It seems a shame to stop and I don't really want to, I just know realistically I can carry on if it's going to always be as full on as this.

Wants3 · 23/05/2012 17:39

Hello again. Phew lovely weather. Ds3 decided he would have a feeding frenzy between 11 and 3 today and was only ready for a sleep once he was full up to the ears! I am hoping that will help bring my milk in! DHs parents visited this afternoon. They bought 2 home made cakes so I have stuff to offer the guests over the coming days.
I went to my weight management group today and got on the scales. I have lost 1st 2lbs in 3 days:)
hurries back to other thread to catch up with news

Biscuitsandtea · 23/05/2012 18:22

I also lurve cadburys caramels Scarlet - they're my steady relationship with chocolate - I might have other flings along the way with creme eggs or whatever, but caramels are my old faithful Grin

We haven't got a buggy board but mainly because I haven't used a pushchair for DS1 in yonks and I'm not certain I could actually push the bugaboo with DS1 on it as well ConfusedHmm. I guess post CS maybe the combined weight is a consideration. I only take on long walks if DH is there so he could carry him if necessary, or it I have 8 days for him to do it 'at his own pace' Hmm

Difficult decision re the formula I guess. I know what you mean about always telling ds1 he'll have to wait. Especially in this hot weather ds2 Is feeding every 2 hours I think because he's so thirsty. I suppose formula wouldn't actually make dd feed any less would it? But it would let DH do more of it? Ultimately it isn't a one or the other decision. If you think it would help you could do the odd ad hoc bottle to suit couldn't you? Just if DH wants to feed her or if you feel DS is getting a raw deal? If you just did an odd bottle here and there I would guess (but am prepared to be corrected!) it wouldn't effect supply too much?

I have a headache - think I must be dehydrated. I've tried to drink more but I guess ds2 is drinking more in addition to me needing more for myself?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/05/2012 18:38

Oh Scarlet, that sounds v hard. Sad How much would formula actually help, though? You'd have to make up the bottles with all that that entails, and DH would still be out 12 hours a day so I'm not sure you'd get a net gain of much spare time. Where's Pomme? She considered switching to ff at roughly the same point, if I recall. I can't really comment, not having a toddler to worry about.

Have been doing sums. It is looking suspiciously as though I may have to do compressed hours when I go back to work. Stupid money! I don't want to do compressed hours and have v long days and never be able to sleep in by mistake.

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 23/05/2012 20:54

scarlet, if you don't have enormo-norkage requiring scaffolding like biscuits, you will probably be able to do more with ds bf than ff as you can move about. I can get onto the floor and read with DD, or have her on my lap and feed one, I can follow her into another room etc etc. I'm stuffed with feeding two though. Feeding hasn't settled down for me yet. In fact, I'm hating the feeding which is sad as I loved feeding DD, but its hard with one baby as all the bf people and hv tell me, its a nightmare with two I'm finding. Constant constant constant. And SO much crying. I think because neither settles/ sleeps if put down, so even if one is sleeping in a sling on me the other inevitably wants feeding so one twin is evicted from the sling, wakes up and the crying begins again . And my nipples are sore from shit tandem latching when I was too tired to sort them out last night... Not in your league though musical, ouch!!! Lather in the lansinoh (if its agreeing with you) & my DT1 never wavered boob/bottle so maybe not the end of the world let's not talk about DT2

Didn't get both to sleep in their cot simultaneously at all again last night :( :( . I am seriously tired.

hawthers sounds amazing for so soon into potty training judging from my mummy friends who've done it. Good
for ds1 :)

Off to read myths birth story.

DreamingOfPeace · 23/05/2012 21:06

scarlet, I don't mean that to sound like ff would be a bad decision, it wouldn't, but bf might get easier. It's certainly easiest after three months when most are settled into more of a routine and going longer

too, I'd just cover DD up. I used hat, long sleeve clothes etc last summer and some cream but DD was a September baby so she was 6 months + for suncream.
