Rubes my mum hasn't left the house for 3 days her hayfever is so bad. As soon as she goes out her eyes puff up and she can't bresthe!

KiwiPanda · 06/07/2012 20:59

Rubes you need to source some local honey! Supposed to work wonders (tho only if you take a spoon a day long term so for now keep necking those antihistamines). DH has been suffering too but he's better now - whatever pollen he's allergic to seems to be one that's around in June-ish every year

He's just come home with his big fancy pants access all areas Olympic media pass Envy . Bah.

I have only done one run this week and have just eaten an entire bar of lindt and an apple strudel (after dinner). Good job it's running club tomorrow morning. Why does NOT running make me eat more??

OP posts:
VagolaJahooli · 06/07/2012 21:43

I always find I eat less, and healthier on the days I run Kiwi. Although I've just had a second helping of dinner and i went for a run this morning. Though it was just bean thread noodles with some stir fried veggies. Having a run with my little group tomorrow morning. Since our dear leader left for two months I have taken over as interim organiser and general tell them what to do person. I'm working them up to running 10km in preparation for the 8km in October. They are up to 4.5km. Obviously as they increase their run distance I might need to start the run closer to my house.

VagolaJahooli · 06/07/2012 21:46

Rubes I think you should ask him, I hate thinking something is going on and not asking. Like you say if you know you can get sorted in time. Is he showing the house secretly to get around giving you first refusal, or is it against your rental agreement.

TheInvisibleHand · 06/07/2012 23:17

LadyT - we're travelling to Belgium on 27 July then coming back something like 5 August. We're intially due in some house around 70km outside of Brussels, but there may be a way of crossing paths, perhaps on the Friday on our way out.

Rubes that sounds pretty rotten on the house. I guess know where you stand and have a plan before you let on that you know. If the main thing is timing, you may be able to do something on that

Rubena · 07/07/2012 09:44

Yeah I asked him straight out as he rang regarding someone loosely described as a "gardener" of his coming over to trim down a tree. Poor bloke is about to keel over and is about 90. Says they aren't potential buyers at all but rather the woman's husband is an architect and wanted some idea's on building an upside down house similar to this (not sure why an architect needs to get idea's) He confirmed he re-listed it though and said he'd rather we buy it and we will get first refusal, but it's irrelevant if we don't have the finance then either!
Vag- in standard lease he can't conduct viewings or erect sign posts etc, but can list it with an agent with a completion date as end of our lease, and start formal viewings 2 months prior.
Dunno really what the next move is. DH is going to look into getting 100% mortgage next week (gulp) highly unlikely though. Shame, as the old bloke is letting the house go almost 200K less than he paid as he just wants to get rid of it due to his health / age etc, plus he's minted anyway - it's a steal.

Charming weather. We were going to go to the New Forest as DH finally has a weekend off but then ds came home sick and it's pissing it down. Lovely. Now just need mil knocking on the door with an effing shepherds pie, a mountain of chocolate, and her alcohol consumption tutting radar on and it's a perfect weekend [sarcasm font off]

McKayz · 07/07/2012 11:29

Rubes That is rubbish. I hope you can get it sorted soon.

DH is really coming home this time!! He has got flights booked!! He lands in Manchester at 10 past 10 Monday morning. So he should be home in time to pick up the boys from school Monday afternoon. So we've decided not to tell them so that he can surprise them. Grin

VagolaJahooli · 07/07/2012 16:32

Oh Kayz that wonderful news, I think I might. Cry, sorry am a little emotional will tell you why on a moment.

rubes, 100% mortgages are quite normal here, in fact most people get 110% mortgages to cover the legal costs and taxes etc. Can you be cheeky and get a personal loan for at least a 5% deposit? I know it puts you in more debt but with the house the price it is you might absorb the cost of the loan with the profit.

This morning I was running through the small corner of an area called the Scheveningen Bosjes, it's a lovely forested near what's called the international quarter because the ICC is there are a few other international organisation. Anyway, I was going to meet my two friends for a run. As I was coming through I was approached by a guy on a bike coming from the opposite direction who asked me to help his friend. I didn't see anyone else around but I'm a suspicious person and he spoke with no urgency for his friend. What I mean is if his friend was in trouble he should have been more urgent. Also I was right near the road and close to a hotel and service station, why was he stopping a lone female jogger when he had all those other options. So i jogged on. When I got to my friends they were very concerned as the has come through the same way and had seen a man laying in the path (I hadn't seen him as he was just off the path that I had come through). They felt that we should all go to him to see if he was ok. I said I was suspicious and we should instead stay wherewe were and ring 112. Just as we were discussing this a police car came by so we flagged it down and told him someone was laying on the ground and where. He said he would take a look. We then all walk back up the path to where the girls had seen the guy laying. It took us a few minutes to get there. When we got there he was no where to be seen. We then went back to where we had met at the end of the path near where the guy had spoken to me. We then saw the guy who had tried to stop me come riding back up the path at some speed and I called out to say we had spoken to the police but he did not look best pleased or even stopped. You would imagine if he had genuinely been concerned for the guy he would have stopped to say something. We are almost 100% certain that these guys intended to attack the person who they were able to lure over to the guy laying on the ground. We think the police doubled back they saw him and the guy laying down must have run off. One of my friend has also been told by a friend in the police service that there is a rape at least once a month in the scheveningen Bosjes. The thing that upset us most was that one of my friends said she would have stopped to check on the guy but just before they came accross him she had met with my other friend and she had suggested getting me first (they thought I was already at our meeting point) as im a nurse and i could help. It send a chill through my spine to think what might have happened had my friend been cycling through on her own. It's just luck that they ran into each other just minutes before.

McKayz · 07/07/2012 16:42

Oh Vag, thats very scary. I am very pleased you are a suspicious person!!

I've been meaning to ask if you are going to watch any of the Tour this year?

Also if you have a sister that has moved here? A new girl is going to be in DS1's class next year and she has done a few days just getting to know the kids and the school. Her Mum looks just like you, I did a double take when I first saw her.

VagolaJahooli · 07/07/2012 21:37

Let me see Kayz, is she incredibly good looking? Haha. Maybe its like my Dutch Kiwi that I saw a while back. No my sister is childless and living on the Gold Coast in QLD Australia. As you know by now I am watching the Tour. I was hoping to go down to Paris to watch the last day. They are starting the last day in a town called Rambouillet which has a lovely campsite which we have stayed in before. I wanted to stay in Normandie for the week then go to Rambouillet for a couple of days to watch the start of the last day, then high tail it into Paris to watch the 9 laps of the Champs. But alas DH has to work in Saudi Arabia that week so instead of screaming "Aussie Aussie Aussie" on the Champs I'll be entertaining the boys and hoping its sunny.

McKayz · 07/07/2012 21:42

It's quite freaky just how much she looks like you!!

I'm hoping it'll start over here again or we get a chance to go watch a stage in France soon.

KiwiPanda · 07/07/2012 21:57

Can the Dutch Kiwi come and substitute for me for a while? I've got gastroenteritis and feel utterly grim Sad. Missed friends leaving party (DH took kids) and have awful stomach cramps. Ugh. Any tips?

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 08/07/2012 12:30

Vag, how AWFUL for you. You must still be in shock. Erm, I think the police need to get their act together, to be honest. No more solo jogging in remote forested areas for you - please.

Kayz - am so pleased for you, how lovely.

Right - Kiwi, hope you are feeling better today. Sipping Dioralyte made with chilled water is so comforting when you have gastro.

Rubes - hoping you are feeling mroe chipper today. xx.

I went to London for the the day and DD1 got told off in the National Gallery for hardly doing anything. (Raising her voice and waggling the rope a tiny bit). The guy refused to discuss it with me further so I am going to write them a Cutting Letter. I do NOT let my girls misbehave in public (and they are usually good anyway). It is a gallery. Not a cathedral at Evensong.

McKayz · 08/07/2012 13:02

ARGHHHHH!!!!

I actually think DH will never ever come home. They aren't allowed to leave until the Customs and Immigration people have gone to the ship to check papers and passports etc.

Well they haven't bloody shown up, they said they would be there at 8am. 5 hours later and they aren't there. One of the guys DH works with is now missing his flight back to South Africa and it looks likely DH won't be getting his tonight either.

Sad
VagolaJahooli · 08/07/2012 13:24

Kayz that is crap!!! I hope he doesn't pay for the flights. Is it far from the ship to the airport? Keep us posted. Will he still only get 8 weeks off, is this eating into his time off?

Kiwi, sorry about the squits, the cramps are not fun at all.

Thanks Lady. We are looking at location apps so when we are meeting for a run we can see where each other is if anyone is running late. And obviously will not be running through that area at all. I've sent out an email to friends here, and a FB notice. It is quite crap that there is no police patrols of the area. They could easily ride through on their cycle patrol. I have to say there are a lot less patrols here than in UK. They seem to just drive around making sure visiting officials are happy. I'm sure also that if it was men who were being attacked each month something would be done. Why are sexual crimes against women badly policed.

VagolaJahooli · 08/07/2012 13:28

Oops forgot to add, good on you Lady, I find there is an assumption in some galleries that children are a menace and shouldn't be there. So as soon as they make a peep, they jump on them. Meanwhile every tom bloody dick and harry is taking photos of the art work using a flash, causing damage to the art. But who do the come down on, the kid who is genuinely enjoying their experience. Not all are like this there were some great museums on Derby that openly welcomed kids and were set up to help them get into the exhibitions. How are kids supposed to grow up appreciating art, with this attitude. Post a copy of the letter please.

McKayz · 08/07/2012 14:12

Vag, no the company pay for the flights and he should still get his full 8 weeks off. DH still has hope as the immigration people have rung to see where the ship is. So hopefully that means they're going.

VagolaJahooli · 08/07/2012 14:44

Kayz what does DH do? Why are the boats he is on all over the world, or it is classified information?

McKayz · 08/07/2012 15:01

He's in the merchant navy. He's mainly on supply ships. They supply food and stuff to oil rigs. The company he works for mainly has ships in Africa and Asia. His friend is in South Korea at the minute on a ship that builds wind turbines.

The immigration people have shown up. Just need to hope they don't take very long. DH's flight is at 1925.

LadyThompson · 08/07/2012 18:16

It is all very tantalising, isn't it Kayz? You must both feel desperate. Hope he makes it this time.

Vag, I am glad you have a plan in place. But the cops ought to be so much more on top of this, as we have said. Perhaps sexual crimes against women are seen as more 'run of the mill' Sad

As to the gallery - well, I am just not having it. I am not one of those idiots who lets their kids run wild and spoil it for everyone else and I refuse to be treated like one. BOTH my kids have been taken to galleries in this country and in other countries since they were babies and they both like to comment on what they see. So what.

We also got caught up in Gay Pride yesterday. All power to the them but it was NOT fun trying to scramble through the intense crowds with a double buggy, roads closed all over the place. I am a numpty, I should remember to check these things out before I go into town for the day. Gay Pride is not generally promoted as far as the Cotswolds Grin

KiwiPanda · 08/07/2012 19:17

Oh Kayz have my fingers crossed he makes the flight! When would the next one be if he had to wait (tho I hope he doesnt)

LadyT that's just not on at all. Art galleries are public institutions and children are part of that public. They should be delighted to see youngsters being introduced to art at an early age. We took DD1 to all sorts of galleries in her babyhood - Berlin ones (we were there a month so did a lot of them) were particularly friendly and Italian and Spanish museum guards were rather keen to kidnap her and play Grin - maybe its just the grumpy Brits? Do write though.

Feeling a bit better now though incredibly weak. Have lost 1/2 stone virtually overnight Sad

OP posts:
McKayz · 08/07/2012 19:22

He's made it!!! They've just boarded the plane. So happy Grin

Kiwi I was told to have rice and soy sauce by the doctor when I was ill

VagolaJahooli · 08/07/2012 20:47

Yay Kayz that is brilliant news, so close now.

Rubena · 08/07/2012 23:45

nice ending Kayz. So happy for you! Was gutted a few posts back.

Yeah feeling ok Lady! thanks. No big deal really. Worse things can happen! I haven't a clue what we are doing but only just Found out today that dh is considering 6 mths in Bristol (fuck me!) and 6 mths in Brighton next year at some point within his next stint which covers Watford/Hemel & St Albans! Who bloody knows. Easier not to think about it! I've always known he'd be moving a lot but be nice to know his thoughts when he's mulling over options rather than stumbling over them in conversation!
To the running folk- My fears have been realised and fear not you lot that thought my time was brilliant. Turns out run keeper app is a little inaccurate and when the gps lost signal it had me doing a few loops I never did after looking over the data Hmm used endomondo today and it would appear that app is far more accurate Grin tempted to only use run keeper from now on! I was slightly less time today but nearly 1k less in route! - gutted Grin never fear I am only spurred on.....

Rubena · 09/07/2012 06:55

Crikey meant to say Vag that sounded a bit scary. Saw your brief mention of it on Fb.
Kayz you must be giddy like a school girl at this point!
