Gah I just got her to stay asleep in her carrycot and then I sneezed Grin

Indith · 21/06/2012 19:18

Grin. Ds still bursts into tears when I sneeze, especially when feeding!

ZuleikaJambiere · 21/06/2012 20:17

DD2 gets upset when I yawn - I think she thinks I might be about to swallow her head Grin

Good that there's no tongue tie. Kayz I have a couple of hours free tomorrow morning, while DD1 is at pre school, and you're less than half an hour from me. I could pop over and wait on you, bring you a cuppa, make you a sarnie? I'd love to do it, if it'd help (and if I could get a quick cuddle of the beautiful R Wink)

Agreed on annoying DHs Deids, I get sent photos of a sunset, or a glass of wine Angry

Welcome back LadyT

LadyThompson · 21/06/2012 20:45

I am worried about you, Kayz, I hope you can get more help soon. As others have said, you should be lying around whilst people busy around you! I don't know how everyone else found it but after my two (apart from the pain) my mind felt very tired as well (I mean it was racing). The whole thing, though of course wonderful, is a massive shock to the system, isn't it? I wish I could come and do a few things for you.

I have made all my notes on what I want to say to people and now I am too tired to type them tonight so they'll have to wait (again), but it's been so lovely to go through what you've all been saying. So I will spend a few mins telling you about my trip whilst DP cooks supper (yes ladies, my ONLY perk)

DD1 asked to go to bed at 6 tonight (unheard of, they go to bed at 8). I think they are still shattered from the trip. I am! I feel a real sense of achievement though (daft, really, as it was only taking a couple of kids on a minibreak. However, we only had hand luggage! Proud of that too). It was just a shame we had stinking colds and hacking coughs. O had had a vomiting virus on Fri but she was ok by Saturday in that regard. They were good on the plane on the way there (I took a lot of snacks and bought them a comic each with a stack of plastic tat on the front). Coming back they weren't very good, really, but manageable - and I was past caring by then! I can't say the trip was too different to the ones I have taken alone...Still did galleries, bars, lots of walking etc. Just a little less of all three, and with more stops along the way. They seemed to enjoy themselves, despite feeling grotty. DD1 ate bugger all, just like at home....DP is glad to have us back. He was completely paranoid that some evil was going to befall us (the kids mainly)....I'd do it again for sure, but it would have to be a v short flight again (this was only 2hrs - the maximum flight time for the solo parent, if said parent wants to retain sanity)...

Oooh, supper's here.

LadyThompson · 21/06/2012 20:45

X-posted with you ZJ. Hope Kayz takes you up - v kind xx

McKayz · 21/06/2012 21:14

ZJ That is very very kind. My mum is coming round tomorrow morning to give me a hand and keep me company and my Dad arrives at about half 11. We should definitely try and meet up sometime soon though. The last time I made it to a meet up was the one in York and I don't think the first lot of Dec babes were 6 months!!

I feel a millions times better now. I reckon it will be a pants night again as she has been sleeping on me most of the evening after a decent feed. Been talking to DH all evening too. Plus I was naughty and made myself some angel delight. It was just what I needed.

It might sound really daft but I want to get out already. I hate being stuck in the house, even just the school run makes me happy. So I am going to try a walk tomorrow. I didn't have any tears or damage from the birth and it doesn't hurt at all.

ZuleikaJambiere · 21/06/2012 21:39

I know what you mean about getting some fresh air, I get cabin fever-y too. Maybe don't take the boys, in case they race off and you find you're not up to running yet Grin.

Your trip sounds great LadyT, I'm glad the illnesses didn't cause too many problems

McKayz · 21/06/2012 21:42

I was going to pick up DS2 from playschool with Mum. So she can chase him Grin

I am sure the boys never used to fart quite this much. She's meant to be a lady!!

Indith · 22/06/2012 10:17

Fresh air is good. Take care Kayz and don't worry about the nights, they will come. She is a little baby remember and doesn't have a clue what night and day are!

McKayz · 22/06/2012 11:03

I have to wait for the midwife. Why can't they give a time rather than saying they'll just show up whenever?

Last night was ok. She woke about 2 and fed on and off until half 3. Then we slept until 6. I just wish I could stop yawning Smile

She will still only sleep on someone. Part of me thinks that's fine as I have an excuse to watch daytime tv, but I also need to do stuff. Just 5 mins would be nice.

I weighed myself this morning. It's terrible!! No more angel delight!! Grin

Indith · 22/06/2012 11:05

Put the scales away you have a tiny baby!

Of course she will only sleep on you, you sre her world. Time to get the sling out. You'll get a routine going soon enough based around the school runs and in a couple of weeks when you are back to walking them again you will feel healthier too.

McKayz · 22/06/2012 11:32

Is it ok to use the sling already?

Do you know why the MWs have said not to swaddle her? I got some of those specially shaped blankets with velcro because DS2 loved being swaddled.

Nolda · 22/06/2012 11:40

Kayz - they say not to swaddle because it can cause the hips to dislocate. I didn't know this until recently when my SIL had a baby with hip dysplasia. There is a way to swaddle just the top part of the baby. I did find an online video at the time. I'll see if I can find it again.

McKayz · 22/06/2012 11:44

Thanks Nolda. It was in the list of things not to do to help prevent cot death that the MW told me. I just remember the MW being really keen on swaddling with DS2.

Nolda · 22/06/2012 12:01

Oh, I hadn't heard anything about swaddling and cot death. You'd better check the reasoning for saying no swaddling with your MW then. If she says it would be OK to use the hip-safe swaddling method, here's the linky.

I was taught to swaddle DD by an old-school MW and I did it with DS too Blush. I would like to add that SIL baby's condition wasn't caused by SIL swaddling her. Her DD was just born that way.

McKayz · 22/06/2012 12:07

There was all the usual stuff about baby on back, feet to end of cot, don't co-sleep if you smoke or drink and then no swaddling and no hats indoors.

Indith · 22/06/2012 12:07

Yes you can use the sling, put her in it with froggy legs rather than with her legs sticking out.

I think swaddling and oct death is because swaddling suppresses the startle reflex so can cause them to sleep more deeply that they otherwise would. Which is probably why swaddling is so popular but also why it may not be a good idea.

McKayz · 22/06/2012 12:11

It doesn't mention swaddling in the booklet they gave me. But it also says it was made in 2009.

DS2 made DD a cake at playschool. So adorable, he sat and ate it and then told her it was very yummy Grin

Indith · 22/06/2012 12:12

though actually all I can find on google is that it poses an overheating risk which could be a SIDS factor, nothing about startle reflex so I'm probably talking rubbish, I'm sure I remember reading it somewhere though. Mind you my brain doesn't exaclt function correctly at the moment!

McKayz · 22/06/2012 12:13

Indith, I have a kari-me. Can I use the cuddly way of carrying her? The other one has her legs out and I don't know how to do it so she has froggy legs.

Indith · 22/06/2012 12:25

sorry, everyone calls things different names, I mean like so a front cross carry with legs in. If she is very windy she will probably prefer being upright but you can also do a

JamInMyWellies · 22/06/2012 13:31

Crikey no swaddling now! Blimey it was the only way I ever got any sleep with DS2.

McKayz · 22/06/2012 13:47

MW has just been. DD is jaundice so the MW doesn't think she is feeding properly. So I need to feed her more, which seems a bit strange as she feeds quite a lot anyway.

But she didn't watch a feed because DD is asleep having just finished feeding.

She hasn't been weighed yet. They are waiting until Monday to it which also seems weird to me as DS2 was 2 days old when they decided to weigh him.

Indith · 22/06/2012 13:58

How jaundiced? A touch of it is pretty normal and should go so long as she is feeding well. As long as she is producing plenty of wet nappies and the meconium is coming through then she is feeding well, as your milk comes in in the next couple of days look out for the meconium turning into the chicken korma poo, that is your best indication! Obvioulsy your MW can see the baby and if she is veery jaundiced then that would be a concern but like I said, a little is normal. All mine have had a touch, only one MW ever got concerned and she was a bat who also gave me wrong info about bf which I knew was wrong and told me off for not having given dd a bath yet when she was only 4 days old and I was in hospital with an infection!

McKayz · 22/06/2012 14:05

I don't think it's too much. It wasn't mentioned at all yesterday. The MW said I could try expressing and giving her it in a cup to make sure she is actually getting something.
