Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

DS also in the camp of prefering to be on his feet than rolling or trying to sit, I must be building strong arm muscles from holding him up all the time! He can roll from tummy to back but not a chance of going the otherway at the moment he keeps getting stuck on his arms!

Just took DS into work and had lots of eyes rolled at me and comments of it was alright in my day when some of the ladies asked if he was on solid foods yet. They seemed really surprised that i'm waiting untill 6 months.

Going to get a highchair soon though as hes getting a bit long for his bouncy chair and i like to have somewhere to sit him when i'm in the kitchen, anyone got any recommendations?

BJR · 16/04/2012 15:16

Hmm not sure how I managed to post that twice!

GeeandTee · 16/04/2012 15:34

I love the Ikea Antilop highchair. Around £15 inc the tray. Sturdy, easy to clean, you can take the legs off easily, chuck it in the car and take it with you to friends houses/on holiday. You can even put it in the sidhwasher for a deep clean every now and then. You can also get an inflatable insert so that when they're really little it helps them sit upright. DS (2yo) still uses his. Good job I bought 2!

GeeandTee · 16/04/2012 15:39

I went to the physio today about my separated stomach muscles (has taken 3 momths to get an appt!) And she has referred me for post-natal pilates. She said I musnt do any other exercise whatsoever (except walking). Just wanted to warn anyone who experienced similar in pregnancy not to go crazy on the exercise! Even normal pilates is a no go as so many of the exercises are really bad if your stomach muscles have separated. Certainly made me feel better about not having done any exercise yet!

GeeandTee · 16/04/2012 15:40

BTW I meant DS still uses his high chair, not the insert!

mopsytop · 16/04/2012 16:05

Minimopsy started trying to sit up in her bouncer for the very first time today! She's been trying really hard though everytime I put her in. Not even shown a sign of rolling though. 17 weeks. I don't read any books anymore on what they 'should' do by particular age as I don't want to stress it. She makes loads of eye contact and chats away so I'm happy.

Figgygal · 16/04/2012 16:26

LO is 17wks on Thursday and weighed today a disturbing....wait for it......18lb 15 Blush. Funnily enough he's not rolling or sitting either the HV said if this continues it'll affect his mobility. Hes on the 98th line from the 91st . I don't see how I can feed him less he's on 5 bottles a day finishes them all and is horrid if I try to feed him less. It took until 14wks to get him up to 3hr feeds.

Babygroup didn't happen earlier as a LO had decided to have a poo all over the surestart centre earlier in the day so they couldn't use the room until they'd done a deep clean. Kids eh!!

aethelfleda · 16/04/2012 16:41

"Funnily enough he's not rolling or sitting either the HV said if this continues it'll affect his mobility. Hes on the 98th line."

figgy, your health visitor is an imbecile. This sort of thing makes me sigh: how do you know the rest of their advice is OK when they come out with claptrap like that??

98th centile = chubby baby. I guarantee you that when he gets to the walking stage He will spend the whole day bouncing around like a loon, and will lose three chins and go down a trouser size. In no way will his mobility be reduced by normal baby blubber. Tsch.

LittleMissFlustered · 16/04/2012 16:51

I do sometimes wonder where they get some of them from. I had a dreadful one with my middle spawn, I'm lucky that this time I have a great one:)

Figgygal · 16/04/2012 17:11

I know i just nodded and looked suitably guilty but really thought Hmm. He is a monster baby with chubby cheeks but i dont think he's fat so not too worried.

He was sat up just after my last post or he could have been slouched over onto his tummy and it kept him up Grin. Was only a few seconds but its something

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 16/04/2012 17:18

Figgy Wow! Your HV sounds a bit Hmm with her advice tho. Sky is 17weeks on Thursday too and will be getting her weighed then too - hoping she has gained weight that has put her back into the 25th centile as she just dropped into the 9th centile 4 weeks ago.

Just about to make a yummy beef stroganoff for me and DP to eat can't wait. Darcie has had a great day at school and hasn't shut up since she has been in. However, has been entertaining Sky and made her laugh so all good.

GeeandTee · 16/04/2012 17:28

figgy if it makes you feel any better DD is hovering between 91st and 98th centiles and is ebf so its not "unnatural" to be that big/heavy iyswim (ie doesn't mean you're feeding too much). If being big affected mobility then there wouldn't be many rowers/rugby players/basketball players etc. I bet most of those kind of sportspeople were big babies too!

Xiaoxiong · 16/04/2012 18:17

figgy and g&t, Pirran is also between the 91st and 98th and is ebf - he looks like the Michelin Man. He refuses to stay on his back and rolls onto his front as soon as he hits the mat/cot/floor. And then grunts and roars in frustration because he can't yet roll back...no sign whatsoever of being able to sit up though. Sack of potatoes is a pretty good description!

I tried the Teetha powder today. I know they were recommended by dsm but I have to admit I was shocked when a tiny packet emptied into a screaming mouth caused an immediate silence!! it was like he had had a bung inserted into his mouth. It must have been the shock of the powder hitting his tongue - it wasn't even long enough for it to dissolve and have any effect. Unfortunately that was 3 hours ago...I may have to repeat the procedure.

I have to admit, today is one of those days when I am looking at the calendar every few hours thinking "how much longer till I go back to work again..." (answer: eleven weeks today). Once our nanny has finished her paediatric first aid course tomorrow we are definitely going to be seeing a lot more of each other.

LittleMissFlustered · 16/04/2012 18:22

I'm tired. I have yet cook my dinner (although I've logged it on that horrid guilt trippy app already:o ) I am tempted to put the kids to bed then crawl under the duvet instead of eating. Would it be acceptable to just eat biscuits up to the calorie value of my dinner?

I suspect the octopus is thinking about teeth. The dribbling has started in earnest >_

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 16/04/2012 18:35

Tyel Did they help 3hrs ago? I know they help us Smile

Dinner eaten, DP going to pub in about 20mins so bed for me & girls Smile

Xiaoxiong · 16/04/2012 18:45

Yes dsm it did work, it was amazing!

However at the moment, in order to stop the noise and misery I have turned on the TV and the kids channel has this weird show called In the night garden. He is actually watching it and chuckling at the screen. I feel like such a bad mother plonking him in front of a screen - this stuff is like watching someone else's acid trip - but I was about to cry with frustration and it has meant Pirran has been happy for the longest period of time so far today (a whole 10 min!)

neverenoughsleeportea · 16/04/2012 18:53

tyel also 'enjoying' in the night garden, tis fecking odd indeed.

lmf app is indeed a total guilt trip Nazi. But I have at least not scoffed crap today. There is a little hope that in time i'll be able to wear my usual jeans again.

aethelfleda · 16/04/2012 18:54

Ah, In the Night Garden. Verrily, 'Tis known as Baby Crack around these parts. All babies STARE at it. By the time he is two yOu will be able to instantly identify not only each character's unique musical theme, but also each theme's variations according to the time of day in the story (I am not kidding!!!).
Oh, and the whole thing was cooked up by HP Lovecraft fanatics high on magic mushrooms and LSD. It's actualy rather good

neverenoughsleeportea · 16/04/2012 18:55

Oh and kate I ache after my run yesterday. Am planning to do the 30 day shred tomorrow which should be very painful....

aethelfleda · 16/04/2012 18:59

And for those babies who aren't on teething powders, you may wish to try Bonjela teething gel. It contains lidocaine (local anaesthetic) in lowish doses, Calgel teething gel is exactly the same but the tube is half the size. We await to see whether DS will chew off Gerald the giraffe's antlers before he cuts teeth.

**previously Sophie: the giraffe has decided it's transgender and renamed
itself in order to qualify for further treatment.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 16/04/2012 19:01

We don't have CBeebies on in this house - what a load of pants! NickJr or Disney Channel here.

One Show on now Smile and peace for now.

mopsytop · 16/04/2012 19:05

We have bonjela and also anbesol liquid. She hasn't needed them yet but dribbling loads and chewing furiously the past cpl of weeks so maybe soon. No idea when they're even supposed to start cutting teeth. It's very variable isn't it?

LittleMissFlustered · 16/04/2012 19:17

DSM Disney channel is banned chez Flustered:o

Bonjela is lovely, too nice for children:o I ought to put some on my ulcer, or anbesol as siggested upthread, it just never occurred to me. In two months. Can you tell I need sleep?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 16/04/2012 19:24

LMF Big Disney Cinemagic fans in the Terry Family Mansion Grin

Feel quite tired tonight - not as tired as some of you tho!

LittleMissFlustered · 16/04/2012 19:43

My daughter is 9 and has never seen Cinderella or any of the other animated tosh they've churned out over the years:o
