We've got so good at brooking no argument for no pregnancy complications and sneeze births, we're going for our Phds in big fat babies

I think DS2 might have chicken pox now Sad

Some dubious looking spots appeared on his head overnight....

Hope the steroid cream does the trick for your poor DS2's bum Jaggy.

Also wishing the potty trainers much luck - my thoughts (and sympathies) are with you!

And much love to the sleepless brookers. Hope your mini brookers have let you get some rest xxx

jaggythistle · 12/05/2012 05:59

oh no biscuits, really hope it's not chicken pox!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 08:23

99% certain it is Sad

Oddly they're mostly on his head Hmm. So far just a few on his tummy / arms. Hope he gets it mildly Sad

Have put socks on his hands.

PetWoman · 12/05/2012 08:30

Too glad you had a good night out and M was happy at home. Two of my aunts are visiting next week and have offered to babysit, which is exciting but I guess it will feel strange leaving DS even for just a few hours. Probably good to get used to it early, though.

But what a stressful experience with the health visitor, doctor etc! Sounds like you coped really well, and thank goodness it was a false alarm.

I have been sterilsing bottles etc but I kind of agree with you - it does seem a bit paradoxical given that most other stuff babies come into contact with is not sterile! I'm sure I read that in some other countries (poss Scandinavian ones?) they don't sterilise nearly as much as we are advised to. And it's a right faff.

Pomme good luck with getting A to stretch out the time between feeds. I'm sort of trying to do that with DS, if it's less than 2 hours since the start of his last feed. Like Dream said, I suspect frequent feeding can become a bit of a habit - one I'd rather not encourage!

PetWoman · 12/05/2012 08:40

Biscuits that's not good - poor DS2 :( Really hope it's mild and doesn't upset him too much. It's dreadful to think of little babies getting ill.

Jaggy fingers crossed the steroid cream does the job and DS2 has a lovely smooth bum again in no time!

Well, DS and I spent our first night upstairs for nearly 6 weeks! :) I had quite a good night (so nice to stretch out with DH) although some of it was spent snoozing while propped up on pillows with DS feeding or dozing on my lap. I'm afraid DH had quite a disturbed night though. And I can confirm that lying-down feeding doesn't work when DH is in the bed as the smaller ones (ie DS and I) end up rolling into him! I suspect we'll be back downstairs on Sunday night until I can get DS's sleeping sorted a bit better...

scarletfingernail · 12/05/2012 09:10

Biscuits I can't believe DS2 has the pox! Poor thing and poor you. I actually asked my TO yesterday if DD was temporarily immune to CP from me and he said he thought she would be. We know several children with it at the moment and DS has not had it yet so I'm fully expecting it to make an appearance soon and I'm.obviously worried for DD.

Too what a worrying day you had. So glad M is ok.though.

Pet will your DH not swap with you and let you have the bed if he wants to sleep apart? Even if you swap with him every night it would at least mean you get the bed every other night. Sleeping on the sofa every night can't be doing you any good.

DD is feeding well still. She's going to be weighed again today. If she's still not put on I have decided to proceed with some formula top ups. I feel better having made a decision so just need to find out now. DS was fully ff from 4 weeks and it certainly hasn't done him any harm and almost certainly saved my sanity. If I do both with DD I will at least know her tummy is full as well as her being nourished. But I'm still hoping she'll have put dome on so I can put it off a bit longer.

scarletfingernail · 12/05/2012 09:11

Meant GP not TO re the pox

PetWoman · 12/05/2012 09:37

Oh Scarlet fingers crossed that DD will have put on at least an ounce or two!

It's ok, I have an air bed downstairs so am not on the sofa all night (provided DS sleeps). I think DH did offer to swap and maybe I should take him up on it occasionally. But to be fair, I'm only 5 foot to his 6 foot (and I weigh nearly half as much - or did before DS and Easter eggs combined to ruin my figure Grin ) so am probably better suited to the air bed than DH is.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 09:42

Glad you've made a decision Scarlet - often the indecision is almost the most stressful bit. And it sounds like a jolly sensible decision too Smile

Hope your DS avoids the pox, or even if he does get it, it's mild and avoids DD.

Too meant to say what a nightmare yesterday with all the doctor and hospital stuff. Glad it was all nothing and as everyone else says, sounds as if you dealt with it all very calmly Smile

Pet glad you got a good night's sleep. Scarlet makes a good point re taking it in turns to take the bed? At least DH could lie down on the sofa to sleep whereas you have to stay sitting up don't you.

Wish DH wasn't working this weekend - I'm bored of looking after poxy children Sad

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 09:43

Oh and I meant to say Scarlet hope the weigh in goes well today - brooking for you Grin

pommedechocolat · 12/05/2012 11:00

biscuits - oh no for the pox!! Poor ds2 and poor you. How rubbish that your dh has to work as well. Brooking for mild, not noticeable pox for you.

Potty 1 kitchen floor 1 here so far Grin she's now outside with dh although I think she's fallen over judging by the noise... I'm feeding abbie of course, what else would I be doing?!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 11:11

Pomme there were times when I was potty training DS1 that I would have given my right arm to have been otherwise engaged and been able to leave it to DH Wink

50% success so far is good. As long as you're getting some successes you have something to over-enthusiastically praise and show then what they should be doing.

It's hard if they get nothing in the potty. My friend's dd was not getting it and she ended up having to wee in the potty herself to show her ShockBlushGrin

That genuinely was a friend too, not one of those 'my friend has this problem...' situations Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 11:12

And kitchen floor, or even better outside, so much better for accidents than carpet Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/05/2012 12:05

Right........... Biscuits, it was your "friend" Wink We understand Grin

Sending lots of No Brooking in the hope that DS2 doesn't have cp, or at least gets the mildest possible version so that both of you barely notice it!

Scarlet that sounds like a really well thought through plan, and I hope it's given you some peace just to have a plan at all! No Brooking for your DD to have put on some weight still.

Pet I second those saying you should at least be alternating with your DH in the proper bed. We don't want you developing a bad back at this stage!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 12:53

Definitely my friend - no way I'm flexible enough to get my bum on a potty! HmmConfusedGrin

pommedechocolat · 12/05/2012 12:57

Hmm, she poohed in her pants and dh bought her into me just after I'd negotiated a 10 minute break for my nipples and was about to hop in the shower. She then asked if she could have a nappy please and 'no thank you' to potty so she has a nappy.

She's young - 2.1 so no hurry she was just showing some signs of readiness. How did my mum get both me and db out of nappies by 2??!!

Good plan scarlet hope she has gained some weight for you.

Pet - Agree you need some bed sleep...

Is it wrong that Im pretty sure tonight post my curry and beer sat night fest I think I'll end up on the potty...?

Still cannot stop eating crap - not sure I ate much other than cake yesterday.

DreamingOfPeace · 12/05/2012 13:51

I also cannot stop eating crap pomme!
I eat chocolate several times a day & night plus had 2 chocolate cookies plus a jam tart already today...
Good luck with the potty training. Sounds like a good start that she got it right once, and best not force the issue when she wanted a nappy on. I'm dreading the transition to a bed for DD- when do I do that? She's 20 months 2 days now.

scream, my boys also have night and day completely messed up. DD changed and worked it out with a lot of help by 9 weeks. We woke every 2 hours in daytime. I read somewhere that more than 2 hours was a nighttime sleep not a nap. With the boys It's currently still chaos and survival.

pommedechocolat · 12/05/2012 14:03

I have also always done no nap more than 2 hours dream. DD1 as very mixed up, A has been much better. I have a theory that babies born in the evening are better at it than babies born in the am.

We moved dd1 to a bed at 20 months dream - for a month it was bad but then it was fine except that since then 6-6.30am has been wake up time rather than 7am.

A has been feeding/not napping and been grumpy for a few days now but just now I watched her determinedly reach out to bat her hanging giraffe thing on her mat again and again. Mental leap! I never noticed things like this with dd1.

pommedechocolat · 12/05/2012 14:09

As in I would have noticed when she could hold giraffe but still be confused by grumpiness. I never made the correlation I should say!

scarletfingernail · 12/05/2012 18:16

Yay for DD! She does know how to put on weight. 2.5 ounces to be precise. No great shakes but not bad since Thursday and going in the right direction at least.

Good luck Pomme with the potty training. You have plenty of time to crack it. I'm still struggling with DS and he's 3.4. I've found it more challenging than anything else we've faced so far. But general consensus seems to be that boys find it harder than girls so you might breeze through it.

jaggythistle · 12/05/2012 19:22

pretty good for 2 days work scarlet, brooking for her to keep going in the right direction.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/05/2012 19:42

That's an awesome weight gain for 2 days Scarlet (unless you're me - with a good supply of chocolate I could put on 7lbs without blinking in a couple of days Hmm Wink).

Well done all round though. I presume all tummies are back to normal now the ABs are gone? Hope so. And hope the old ankles are calming down a little. At least you could get away with flip flops now (just!)

Hope everyone else is ok. xx

pommedechocolat · 12/05/2012 19:46

That's great news scarlet - 2.5 oz is pretty good for two days!!

DreamingOfPeace · 12/05/2012 19:52

An ounce a day is perfect weight gain so I've been told. That's what DD did and my boys are doing just over that. Well done you scarlet

Please go to sleep boys.... Please!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/05/2012 20:38

Yay for Scarlet and her DD, you've both done really well to get such good weight gain in only 2 days!

Hit a bit of a wall today. Was up all night with DD, even after she went to DH at 5 am he had to keep bringing her back to me for feeding. Then had to get up while still exhausted to look after a wide awake DD, so DH could run errands before the arrival of visitors in the afternoon. At 4pm I was still utterly exhausted and suddenly realised I hadn't eaten since yesterday. I just felt totally overwhelmed by it all (how can DD be up all day after being up all night?!?!) and burst into tears just as our guests arrived!

Not a great day. Visitors left about an hour ago and I've finally had something to eat (takeaway! zero nutrients). I should be napping now but I'm just dreading the night shift and can't relax enough to fall asleep.

Apologies for the whinge, I know this is nothing compared to colicky twins or having to look after a toddler while exhausted. It's all my own fault for not keeping on top of meals, plus I'm pretty certain my iron levels are stupidly low right now, I can feel it. DD is usually asleep all day, and although I'm glad she seems to be waking more in the sunshine it's killing me that this doesn't seem to equal more sleep at night?! Feeling a bit low and useless right now, any chance it's just hormones? Or is it too late to blame it on hormones by day 18?
