mama what a shame. How about you tell the nurse before she does the jabs and let her make the call? I don't know how it has to go to be counted as a temperature

J eats his hands all the time too, and is just working out about sucking his thumb. Not got sore hands tho, so I am not doing anything about it. Those with older kids ; is this a normal stage he will grow out of or is this the start of a thumb sucker?

We have just moved up to 8oz for his feeds! V exciting. He dies leave a fair amount on some feeds, but others he was draining the bottle so I though we would go for it.

Scheherezade · 20/02/2012 12:14

Wow, 8oz! A good appetite is a good sign of a healthy baby :)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 20/02/2012 12:32

Mhairi is also chewing her fists/fingers but she has been a thumb sucker since about 3wks old.

Christopher get a dummy at 3 weeks so I'm not sure if he would have progressed to thumb sucking had we not given him one. I think all babies will chew fingers etc when teething though regardless of preference for thumbs? I would think if baby was going to suck thumb they'd be doing it by now but not sure.

Yesterday went well although I had one heck of a clean up today. Dishes for 4 adults and 3 kids dinner/dessert, and the kids had every inch of my floors covered in toys, think it's gonna take me all day to sort.

Hi all,
mama hope j is ok
em that's great Smile
E is getting better although still not 100% he is feeding again so not having to sit and express thank goodness, however I have now come down with it (think due to sleep deprivation over last week) so am holing up at home for next couple of days.
E too is teething and shoving anything he can get hold of into his mouth
Realised I am a proper mummy now just licked my finger to remove a crusty bogey from E's head Blush

FuzzzyDuck · 20/02/2012 16:29

We are all very quite today!!

LittlePebble · 20/02/2012 16:36

Just took E for his last jabs Sad

FuzzzyDuck · 20/02/2012 16:38

Aww how was he lp? Just think, that's the last till they are a year old now Smile

LittlePebble · 20/02/2012 17:05

He's ok cried a lot but has just had big feed and is now snuggled up next to me. So pleased no more jabs for a while though!

LittlePebble · 20/02/2012 17:05

How's the weaning going what has Sophia tried today? Smile

MamaMaiasaura · 20/02/2012 17:09

Sorry not been around lately I'll read back and catch up when DD is in bed. Had to come on and share the news though.

We have a tooth!!! and the second is visible but not quite through.
He's been grizzly and out of sorts for days. I think he has bronciolitus too. I knew they were coming as he's been very drooly for a couple of weeks, but he's not had red cheeks and DD's came through much later, about 7 months. I thought we were just in for months of drool. I hate drool. :) His belly has been off too but DD has been ill so I thought it was that. We've been dosing him up on gripe water, not giving him things for his teeth.

I highly recommend the Nelson's teething powders though I finally gave him some today when I realised what the problem was and he went from screaming to asleep in about 3 minutes. :o

In other news DD needs glasses. :( I feel bad for not realising, they picked it up on a test at school, we went today for a more thorough test and her eyes are pretty bad. I thought she was just being awkward when she said she couldn't see when she stood in front of the telly. She'll need to wear them all the time. I'm gutted for her, I hate wearing my glasses, and I only need them if I drive long distances.

Right, bath time for DD then catch up with the news here.

FuzzzyDuck · 20/02/2012 19:00

Today she had her cereal and some apple and apricot purée just after her morning milk then some more apple purée late afternoon Grin. Out tomorrow to buy some veg and a hand blender!! She is really enjoying it. I've not told the HV yet, but I shouldn't have to eh? I might pop down and have her weighed on Wednesday and they usually ask about feeding so I'll drop it in. Feel like they may lecture me as she is only 20 weeks but hey ho!

I had a lump in my throat with her last ones.. She screamed bloody murder!!

TallyBear · 20/02/2012 19:02

Oo I can't up on this thread. I'm trying to spend less time online and more time irl but failing!!

Exciting about all the weaning. I'm not going to start until about 5 1/2 months (after Easter) but we got our Hipp free sample (banana and peach breakfast with a diddy spoon). Ordered the C&G weaning guide but they seem incapable of delivering anything to my address sigh.

We've got a consultation with an osteopath tomorrow to see if they can sort out Sebs reflux, feeding problems and flat head. Finally ordered two pillows, as I couldn't decided which was best!!

Sorry no time to comment on what others are up to, Professor Huff n' Puff (as dh calls him) has awoken... Duty calls....!

FuzzzyDuck · 20/02/2012 19:03

Aww bilb that's great about the tooth!! Sad for dd though, but you will prob find that she will take to them well as she is still young. I know what you mean tho, my eyes got really bad when I was about 10 but wasent allowed contacts till I was 15 so I just never wore my glasses. My eyes were awful and I have no idea how I did see things!! How is dd feeling about them?

Bubalie · 20/02/2012 19:51

bilbio congratulations on the first tooth! How many weeks is that? L is also teething, I have got some Nelson's teething granules too but haven't given him any as yet as he hasn't been too bad.
We are on day 3 of baby rice and he loves it, and he likes his new highchair - was sitting in it for ages this morning while I did his bottles and tidied up the kitchen.
Fuzzy L is also only 20 weeks and I wasn't going to start weaning until he was 26 weeks but his consultant recommended it so it can't be that bad. Great news she's loving the food!

Scheherezade · 20/02/2012 20:15

Oof so much to keep up with!

lo you thunk the jabs are bad, when c was 2weeks he had to have blood taken for a jaundice test. The nurse pricked a hole in his hand, then had to squeeze really hard to make the blood drip out (they can't use a syringe when they're so little). He had painkillers dripped onto his tongue, but he was screaming in so much pain :( his hand was twisted at a funny angle, it was horrible :(

Aww, she's doing so well fuzzy! My NCT book says there's no difference in growth, activity, illness etc in ff babies weaned at 4m or 6m, its only bf babies that benefit from waiting till 6m+ . So S is fine to be having purees now :) I suppose their digestive tract is already used to cows milk so a bit of fruit isn't going to make a difference? Who knows, but according to nct you can wean ff earlier than bf, anyway :) so don't worry about hv!

Oh wow, we have a tooth already!!! I wonder if that's C's problem, he's all grumpy, red cheeks, poorly/windy tummy....

Good luck with tomorrow tally

Jnice · 20/02/2012 20:20

Wow, so much real food being eaten! We are a long way from that here, but just turning 4 months this week. I plan to get a high chair soon, I have the antilop from ikea, it's a really good one but I need a fold-up so will go get the other ikea one. I would like to have l sitting at the table with us soon, right now he's on a knee and it makes eating difficult.

Hugs to the sick, teething and babes with jabs.

I thought L was through the growth spurt but last night he was a monster. Only woke twice but for the first waking I had to top up with ebm as he was pounding my chest in a rage of frustration! Also was awake and hungry for the day earlier than usual too. I must do better and get myself to bed before midnight as I'm feeling a bit worn out. Throat is all better and I managed a little jog today Smile

Jnice · 20/02/2012 20:23

biblio congrats on the tooth! And sorry to hear about DD's eyes. You can get some really pretty glasses, I hope she gets on ok with them.

Jnice · 20/02/2012 20:24

tally god luck with the osteo tomorrow, I hope tot helps - let us know! I've heard very good things about it.

bilblio · 20/02/2012 21:48

Well I've skim read and sort of caught up. Apologies if I've missed anything important.

First tooth at 18 weeks. (I'm so bad, I had to use google to work out how old he is, I've lost track. Blush ) Is it the first tooth on the bus?
I'm hoping now he'll settle a bit so I can get some sleep, he's gone from sleeping through at Christmas to waking 2 or 3 times a night now. We've also moved into 6-9 month babygrows today. He's the complete opposite of DD she's always a clothes size behind he age, Seth is one ahead.

DD is quite excited about getting glasses, how long till the novelty wears off? Although the novelty of being able to see might stick around longer. Our neighbour who she plays with wears them all the time, and her best friend at school wears them for distances, so I think that will make it easier. DD wanted to know if she'd get a pink Barbie case too. I said we could put her stickers on it. (Not barbie though, I hate barbie.)
Jnice I saw some lovely glasses for her, but I didn't let her see them. For now we're going with the free ones until we know she can look after them. :)

MrsHende I put lansinoh on my hands for excema, It's great! (I don't chew my hands though.)

No weaning happening here. Seth sits on my lap when we eat at the table but he shows no interest in anything but his hand, anyone's hand, muslins & his toy robot. He definitely has a strong tongue thrust reflex still. I have a lot of allergies so I'll be doing my very best to get to 6 months. We did with DD and it still took several weeks beyond that for her to seem like she was enjoying food.

Hipp baby foods do excellent weaning guides. They do a count down advising how much food to introduce over the first few weeks until they're having 3 means a day. Cow & Gate do one too but Hipp is far better IMHO. I used it with DD and I've received a new and improved one for Seth today. :)

Tally Good luck with the osteo tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works.

Scheh Yep could well be teeth. Get some teething powders and see if he's suddenly happy. :)

We're off for jabs tomorrow. We're running late with them because I forgot the 2nd set. Hmm Then Wednesday we're at the doctors as he's had thrush on his bum for weeks which isn't getting better. I think I know why now though. :)

FuzzzyDuck · 20/02/2012 22:07

The hipp weaving guide is really good. It's very simple but spot on with the detail with regards to how much to be giving etc. plus it came with a free spoon and little sachet of cereal Smile

MrsHende · 20/02/2012 22:21

Thank you for all the advice, I'll give the Lansinoh a go!

I think we're heading for teeth here. Would that account for L suddenly having a very windy bottom?! She's certainly unsettled at night too.

Anyone else feel like they're falling to bits? I'm shattered, I think I have cyatica (sp?) and can only hobble and when I got into my pjs just now I noticed a load of wee bruises on my leg. I ache all over. I'd love a day off Blush. I now feel like a bad mummy for thinking that way Sad.

Sorry, must cheer up! Send me happy vibes or funny stories please!

Actually, I have one to start us off - I went to the HV clinic with my friend and her 10week DS and 2.8 DD. Friend's DD said very loudly as an elderly gentleman walked past "Look at that man's big strawberry nose!", my pal wanted to curl up and die! Grin)

bilblio · 20/02/2012 22:38

MrsHende yep, very windy bum here, and green poo. That's what I was putting all the grumpiness down to.

Also falling to bits, my hair is still falling out by the handful. You can see big areas of scalp.

2 funny stories for you.
I asked DH if he'd still love me if I went bald... he pointed to his own head in reply.
DD (who wanted a sister) loves her brother so much that she keeps telling him she's going to marry him. DH told he he'd like his grandchildren to have thumbs. :o

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 20/02/2012 22:56

Grin @ grandchildren with thumbs.

I'm also shattered ATM mhairi is waking at least 3 times per night and DS never sleeps later than 6.30, yet for some reason I can't bring myself to go to bed any earlier than 11.30 as I really need child free time!

Can't think of any funny stories but will try and post if I remember any my life is clearly boring
