Oh god another one on argument night, is it a full moon? DP and I just huge row and I'm upstairs trying to settle E (who is a bit better thankfully but still not feeding properly) while he's watching tv downstairs Angry

FuzzzyDuck · 18/02/2012 22:29

Sorry to all those arguing with dp/dh. Times like this I'm glad I'm without a man.. Think it is a full moon!!!

Scheherezade · 18/02/2012 22:33

A quick q- what age would you expect bf babies to be fully weaned by? As in on solids through the day?

PenguinArmy · 18/02/2012 22:38

sch really depends. Do you mean no milk what so ever, even at night?

I found DD easy to lead as I hated expressing so stopped at 10 months. I fed a bit in the day here and there but she was too young or distracted to ask for it. I fed her at night still though. If the baby is a bottle refuser then the mum from 6 months (ideally 7-8) can go back to work and the baby make do. After all some babies sleep more than the working day at night without food. Often the older baby will be fine without milk if mum is away, but milk crazy if the mum is there.

Jnice · 19/02/2012 03:17

Sorry for all you having rows with SO's, no fun at all Sad

And BB hope you catch a break too soon. And all the other babes that are sick, get well soon.

My throat is still sore, and feeling sad because my grandma passed away on Thursday. She was almost 92 so had a good run as they say. I wish I wasn't 4,000 miles away though, don't think I can make it back for the funeral Sad

Jnice · 19/02/2012 03:20

scheh theoretically a baby can do without formula or breasmilk from one because you can introduce full fat cows milk as a drink (barring allergy).

My DS2 hates cows milk and I bf him until he was almost 2. ODS was fully weaned at 1 and he was eating food well and drinking cows milk from then.

I wouldn't expect it much before then really as its a gradual process of adding one meal at a time and then snacks too. They really need 3 meals and at least 2 snacks before they are getting enough to do without baby milk.

BB3 · 19/02/2012 04:12

Jnice so sorry about your grandma xx

Jnice · 19/02/2012 07:17

Thanks BB

CheshireDing · 19/02/2012 08:15

Good question Scheh. I think I have a bottle refuser so good to see timescales to know what to work with a little bit.

Jnice sorry to hear about your Grandma, 92 is definitely a good innings as they say too Thanks. Why not send some really nice flowers instead, I am sure people do not expect you to be able to get over from Canada at such short notice with a little baby too.

Well last night I told DH he is babysitting today, his responce "how will I get anything done". Hmm

Hed does lots for her but I need a day to get stuff done so I have said he can only bring her to me for feeding and THAT'S IT.

So far P is up, bathed and wearing an odd outfit. I will report back later.

supergirl1 · 19/02/2012 08:27

cheshire, just had to pop in to :o at "odd outfit" i'm chortling away. why cant (most) men dress children. my boys always end up looking like chimney sweeps if dh is dressing them. will post later x

LittlePebble · 19/02/2012 08:31

Jnice sorry about your grandmother Sad
Hope you're feeling better soon x

BB3 hope DS is ok x

E is much better today first normal nappy in four days (not green!) however DP and I both have sore throats...

Cheshire lol at odd outfit! DP tried to dress E once and would have out him in a vest and a jacket!

emmazed · 19/02/2012 08:42

jnice sorry about your grandma. xx

MrsHende · 19/02/2012 08:48

Grin at the odd outfit! I have to bite my tongue when DH dresses L! At first I would say something but now I just keep my mouth closed and have a giggle to myself - I've learned to pick my battles!

So sorry about your Grandma Jnice x

No arguments with DH here last night - we're staying at his parents for the weekend and he was at the pictures with his dad, brother and SIL while me and his mum stayed in with L. Do he wasn't here to disagree with! And my MIL hasn't yet told me that L is hungry! Success!

It's my BIL's birthday so we went out for dinner last night before they went to the cinema. That was quite stressful as the restaurant was NOT baby friendly at all. Fortunately L was very happy and sat on my knee the whole time but if she'd been even a little bit unsettled it would have been a nightmare. B+SIL are expecting their first baby in June so will hopefully learn quickly about socialising with babies! I knew from the start that the restaurant choice was a potential disaster and had decided that if she became at all unsettled I'd just have to leave. We felt we couldn't object to the restaurant choice as B+SIL have a couple of chips on their shoulders about being second fiddle to her nephews and didn't want them to start complaining about the world having to revolve around Lizzie now. (I'm looking forward to watching them change their tune dramatically when their wee one comes along and they realise that the world does have to revolve around babies, for a while at least Wink!)

So, what's everyone up to today? I hope you've all made up with your men and that you have nice days planned!

pinkpainter · 19/02/2012 09:54

I was treated to a duvet day yesterday - such a treat!! :)
I still had to look after baby M, but my DH and DD had a day out together so I spent the whole day sleeping and watching tv.
My health visitor suggested that I really needed it, otherwise I would have felt guilty about such a luxury.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 19/02/2012 10:42

I'm just in from tesco having friends over this afternoon for playdate and they are staying for dinner. Just managed to walk round without eating any sweets Grin sheer willpower lol

Am making cranberry glazed gammon with colcannon tonight (weight watchers recipe) and can't wait it's delicious.

Morning all, hope you all having a nice and lazy Sunday morning! Edward can't believe you can cook properly, I haven't made a dinner since L has been born, my DH has taken over the cooking!!
Baby rice went fabulous yesterday and today, he loves it! Got the highchair yesterday, got really good deal at Mothercare. For any of you that don't know, Mothercare does price match guarantee even with the internet sites, so yesterday we got highchair which was £150 at MC for £106.88 and AngelCare monitor which was £99 at MC matched Tesco's price of £75. So if any of you need anything worth checking the net and just getting it from MC.

MrsHende · 19/02/2012 12:30

I need a bit of advice ladies:

L is very drooly and is always chomping on her fingers and hand. (I think teeth are on their way!) Her poor wee fingers are getting red whenever we go out because they are constantly wet.

Can you think of anything I can put on her hands as a barrier that won't matter when she puts them in her mouth?

MrsHende · 19/02/2012 12:39

Just reread that - I mean a cream or lotion rather than gloves or mitts, we have them but they just get soaked too!

Jnice · 19/02/2012 14:00

Thanks everyone Smile

MrsHende the only thing that comes to mind would be something edible like coconut oil, apparently it's great for skin and some people use it as a barrier for nappy rash. I'm thinking of getting some for L.

Grin at the strange outfit - I think we should start posting the strangest photos up on Facebook!

pink well done for giving yourself the break, enjoy it!

emmazed · 19/02/2012 15:55

mrsh how about Lansinoh which is made to be ok for babies to eat, or aqueous cream which is fine for babies as it has nothing in and is cheap!

emmazed · 19/02/2012 15:57

bub thanks for the tip, I will try that when we get our high chair. The one I go to in Brent cross has a brilliant feeding room so I like to support them to make sure the room doesn't go anywhere!

Jnice · 19/02/2012 17:42

Lanisoh - good idea! That must be fine since we smothered it on from birth.

CheshireDing · 19/02/2012 19:51

Pebble glad E is feeling better and hope you and DP are soon too.

Sometiimes I do make a little comment about the outfits MrsH, a couple a weeks ago I used the excuse that she needed to change in to a party dress for a friends meal Grin. I do definitely tell him when he puts her top on back to front (so the buttons are down the front) and the other day she had a dress on back to front so the picture was on the back! The rest of the time I leave him to it.Hope the MIL success continued.

DH babysitting went very well because I got loads done. He did try and get out of changing her while we were out because he said he was cold Hmm but I sent him on his way and drank my hot chocolate. Think I will try the same thing next week (won't tell him yet though).

Think I might try the Lanisoh on P's hands as she is constantly eating them - how long is this likely to last?

FuzzzyDuck · 19/02/2012 21:44

jnice sorry to hear about your grandma, what a wonderful age to have reached Smile
bb3 poor boy Sad. Hope it goes for good soon
lp glad to hear E seems to be getting better Smile
mrsh it's only now you have a baby that you realize how un-baby friendly some places are!! I find going round some shops with pram such a pain as they lack the space to steer round!!
bub glad to hear baby rice went down well Smile. Hope you got lots of photos of first tastes!!

I went to ikea yesterday and got S a highchair. Just went for the basic antalop one (great reviews on here!). For £20 you can't go wrong! Got the blow up insert but which is great. Hoping it will encourage with the sitting up as well. So far so good!! We branched out and had a taste of apple this afternoon. She loved it! Gave her some cereal first then some of the apple purée. Her face was funny when I had thought she had had enough. The bottom lip started going so had to give her a bit more! Planning to hit the shops tomorrow to stock up on some fresh veg and a hand blender. Just sterilized all the little weaning pots I bought so will get them filled and into freezer Smile

I'm having a cup of tea, few biscuits then off to bed rather hungover after drinking faaaaaarrr to much last night, but let's not talk about that Grin

MamaMaiasaura · 20/02/2012 10:38

jnice sorry about you grandma Sad
+bb3 hope ds all better soon
Sorry for not keeping up. Mad week and awful nights. Last night after dream feed she didn't settle. Her poo has been lots and wondering if teeth or tummy upset. Mild temp of 37 and jabs today, don't know if she should have them.
