FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 16:54

Thanks strawberry Smile. Hate to think she isn't feeling well Sad

CheshireDing · 12/03/2012 17:51

FD she was 6lb at birth (5th Oct) and I reckon is around 14lb-ish now, I only weigh once a month and going tomorrow so will let you know.

Personally we always say she is small and heavy (not a good combo for a girl). Although obviously we won't say that once she understands!

CheshireDing · 12/03/2012 19:06

Am I the only one with a baby who hums away to herself whilst she is feeding! ?

She keeps stopping to whitter away too!

FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 19:23

My goodness, my poor girl really isn't well. Has slept all afternoon at my mums. Managed a smile when I went in to get her but was followed by her proper cry Sad. We are home snuggled up in bed. Hoping she will take full bottle as she hasn't drank much all afternoon and don't want to risk dehydration. Poor baby Sad

cheshire S hums to herself while eating her food Grin. It's all these little things that just make me love her so much! Yeah S was 30/9 and weighed 6.2. She is small but heavy too. Was just under 9th line at birth but is now half way between 9th and 25th!

sassy34264 · 12/03/2012 19:46

poor s. hope she is better soon fuzzy

i have just had a mad 20 mins. both twins had pooed. busy changing isobel, dp winding eva. jacob continuing to play. he hadnt any bottoms on, just a nappy and a vest with poppers. he has climbed into the toy box and it has leaked out the side. it was very sloppy!!!! had to clear out a good few things into the bin; books, toys with nooks and crannies, teething rings and other things which could be saved; soft toy dolls, oopsy daisy etc have gone into the washing machine. im about to sit down now and take all the toys out one by one and wipe with anti bacterial spray just incase.

anyone want to swap what they are doing right now?

being a mum is sooooo glamorous.

Scheherezade · 12/03/2012 19:54

Oh no, poor S :( hope she's better by morn, maybe give some cooled boiled water to get some fluids in?

Thanks everyone :) I think its just the teething making him v.whingy. my dog also gets told off a lot, but he follows me around like a bloody shadow, gets right under our feet!

I change him as soon as he's dirty as I'm scared of gastroenteritis Blush I'm a big worrier! Having a mini panic now- mash, puree, or sticks? If I was to do BLW and let him feed himself does that mean I'd have to chop and steam every day before giving it him? If so I really cba with that, I like the idea of just popping an ice cube out to defrost each morning. I'd like to do both, but not sure when to do what during the day, its such a minefield!

FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 20:21

sassy oh dear!! Grin. I'm just sitting down to my dinner so no thanks!!

sch you can always steam some carrots, use a few then save rest in fridge for next day. It is a bit of a pain. I gave up getting the big steamer out. Found a great one that I can use in the microwave. I steamed loads yesterday and put it all into freezer.

S is away to sleep in my bed. She took 4oz then had had enough. Still not a great amount so I'll give a dream feed when I'm heading to bed at 11.30 to get some more into her. She's been sipping water from her cup through day but it's hit or miss as to how much goes in. She tends to take some into her mouth then dribble it all back out Hmm

BB3 · 12/03/2012 20:26

Hey ladies

Fuzz, is s ok?
Oh sassy - I can beat you on the glamour, ds has started to want to be changed immediately after a poo (he desperately needs potty training but is struggling as he can't speak), anyway I digress, two days ago whilst eating a some chocolate my dad noticed he had some 'chocolate' on his top (all over his top, neck, face and hands more like) and move in to wiped it off only to realise (too late) that it wasn't chocolate but instead poo which was now all over his hand too! My dad is useless at things like that and then proceeded to yell for help while my sister was gagging at the smell and mum had to wrestle k's clothes off in the bath (I was feeding the girls so kept well out of it!). So now it seems as soon as he's poo'd his hands go straight in his pants to remove the offending item! glamorous hey!

Scheh in my opinion, anyone that thinks they're a bad mum is normally completely the opposite, you're doing a great job, do give yourself a break it's a hard job. Really chuffing hard!

CheshireDing · 12/03/2012 20:29

Scheh not that I know bugger all but we are trying to do BLW and for our evening meal P just gets a few of the veg which has been boiled but before we put any sauce or whatever with it. We eats loads of frozen veg just boiled so it's still crispy (to keep the nutrients) so that's part of what is being cooked for evening meal anyway.

It's long pieces so she can hold them. TBH she has managed to get broccoli in her mouth but other than that it has been petit filous (or however it's spelt), we just load her spoon and she can get that in her mouth herself. Banana has sort of gone in.

We just have loads of packs of frozen broccoli, caul, carrot, long beans etc etc in the house anyway, boil a bit then let them go cool. We don't often buy broccoli etc fresh because 1 thing would only last 2 days.

She does chuck a fair bit on the floor but we put the dog towel down and then a plate where she usually drops her spoon (so we can pick the spoon up again). It's messy, I bought more bibs and yoghurt ended up on the wall yesterday Grin. The dog is getting some interesting stuff at the moment.

One of the things that attracted me to BLW is that they get the texture of each individual type of food in its own right and because they are laid out on her tray separately (see my fb photo from the other day) the theory is if she doesn't like it she can pick the other stuff up.

However it's early days, she is not massively interested in anything but the loaded spoon but she does watch us eating so she will presumably get more interested. FX

BB3 · 12/03/2012 20:30

Oh an the girls are 6 months next week and while Ayse can fall roll front to back, that's it, she cant roll back to font and Edie can't do either and bar cups beatrice my two are the oldest on the thread so we are waaaaay behind, enjoy it though as when they start it's a whole nee world of chaos.

Ed - Ayse clamps down when feeding it makes me want to cry! Sad

CheshireDing · 12/03/2012 20:31

Sassy and BB3 double gag. I thought cat poo was bad Grin

Hope she is feeling better tomorrow FD, can't believe you can stay awake until 11.30am, bloody hell.

FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 20:43

Oh jeez bb3 Shock. You will have been glad to be in feeding girls while that was happening!!!
cheshire that's early for me!! Usually much nearer to 1am before I'm in bed and lights out then S is awake about 7.30am. I can go so long then I crash and burn. Was at my parents on saturday and took S into spare room for a sleep around 3pm. I lay down next to her and nodded off myself. She woke 40 mins later but my mum came in and got her but left me sleeping. Woke up at almost 7pm! I don't like to moan/complain about it but by time she is sleeping is 8pm(ish) but then by time I've had some dinner/shower then washed bottles, done a washing and tidied up, its midnight!! sassy I've no clue how you done it all with 4 kids when dp was away!! Hats off to you Grin

sassy34264 · 12/03/2012 20:59

no bb3 isobel has done that too. but admitedly it wasnt as bad as yours sound. kudos for staying out if it- unfortunately im the designated go to guy in this house. umph.

just been tidying around and decided to sit down with my bike magazine, that i paid 4 quid for, havent read yet and it already has pages missing.......thanks isobel. i think its a ploy myself to make it quicker to read, so she can have more attention!

anyway after about 20 secs, decided i was too tired to read it and announced to dp that im going to bed.

dp- shall we have a milk (hot mug of milk to aid sleep)
me- ok.
me- god lee we are so old. i remember when we use to spend our time dtd on the kitchen counter (tmi) !!!
dp-laughing i know
me- laughing, and saying, yeah but you not whats worse????? i think id rather have the milk!

god help us!

milk just pinged. night night.

Scheherezade · 12/03/2012 21:08

Hum, I think with my PND I can't guarantee I can cook for C everyday atm, I think doing a big batch of mush and freezing will be more suitable for me. That's how I cook in general, do lots all at once so its there. And we eat after C has gone to bed, DP gets home 5ish and C has his bed 6.30, so it'd be a rush to fit eating in there too....but then we'll have to eventually when C is older!

But I don't know if I could live with the guilt :( because blw is supposed to be much better for them. Urgh.

bb3 that is disgusting! Urgh, that's the next 'big thing' isn't it- potty training!

I didn't realise parenting was this difficult!

Ditto on not knowing how you manage sassy please come stay with me a la supernanny and organise my life!

Going to get slow cooker on tonight, lamb stew for tomorrow yummmm.

FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 21:15

sch what's to feel guilty about?! If you think that batch cooking m/freezing is going to work for you, then go for it! You can still add in plenty of blw. I like spoon feeding as I want to know what and how much she is actually eating, but tbh in the last week, she is starting to pick up things from her tray and eat them herself (the toast, munched on a carrot stick, sweet potato cubes). They do start to develop pincer grip in the next few months anyway so imo, there is plenty of time for all the finger foods! Try not worry about it so much, again just go with the flow Smile

PenguinArmy · 12/03/2012 21:39

sch I've never steamed anything for DD but I've never made her anything just for her either. Some people define BLW as pre-loading a spoon and the school of thought that as long as they choose when it goes in the their mouth it counts. I'm of the no set school but with DD we had no spoons for a few months and I vaguely plan to do the same again. Otherwise weaning then becomes something you have to do rather than plonk everyone down and eat. I would recommend a hand held hoover to everyone.

Potty training is on my list to do in May next year. Hoping to bribe my mum to come for a long weekend while we get started on it.

DS can pick things up from his high chair tray (we often sit him there as he likes it plus is somewhere to put him when we eat) and sat for more than 10 secs today. He also leaned forward to pick up a toy.

Hope poorly babies get better soon. DS still congested but did until 3:30 last night before it hit him. I should attempt sleep myself now but know I won't

PenguinArmy · 12/03/2012 21:44

a lot of frozen and fresh veg is cooked just by boiling the kettle and leaving the hot water to soak. Most things simply need warming rather cooking but something like fresh broccoli is a little harder so either needs just bringing to boil on hob or left with kettle water for longer. Not a problem with babies as they will probably have it cold anyway so you could do and leave for a few hours until meal time.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/03/2012 21:51

i intend to do a mixture of spoonfeeding and finger foods, i now think i'm fighting a losing battle waiting to 6 months to start solids, i sit M on my knee when we are eating and she is literally now grabbing my plate!! the other day she was lying on sofa and C left his sippy cup quite close, she picked it up and started drinking from it Shock
so i'm now trying to encourage sitting as i dont like feeding in a bouncy chair so i want her to be able to sit sort of straight before i start solids. she did quite well today can sit for over a minute if she is concentrating on mickey mouse clubhouse before falling to the side. will post a pic on FB

she finally took a bottle of formula on saturday night while i went out to cinema. i was hoping it would make her sleep longer and if so would introduce formula to 11.30pm feed but no she still woke at usual time. Sad

fuzzy i'm the same as you re; bedtime i can go to bed earlier and i'm definitely tired enough to, but i think the few hours "adult time" i get a precious and its a waste if i spend them sleeping. will definitly come on thursday, is that the one in Ruchazie? and do i need to call ahead and book? also do you know if C would come into the class or should i bring someone to go into soft play with him? and hope S feels better soon!

sassy i agree with everyone else really dont know how you do it! you are clearly supermum/woman!!

sche hope your feeling better and really try not to worry (i know its hard not to) i'm not sure BLW is better or worse for baby healthwise so if you think pureeing will be better for you then go for it, its not like he'll never get finger foods anyway.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/03/2012 21:58

PA thats a great tip re kettle water and frozen veg, i would never have thought the water would be hot long enough to warm it through.

i'm going to try potty training seriously again next week! i just have far too much on this week to stay in. so i intend to start next friday have all weekend staying in with help of DH and maybe stay in mon/tues the following week then we'll start to head out, but this time there will definitely be no more nappies in the daytime regardless of where we're going. really wish we could just send toddlers away for 3 days and they come back perfectly trained in manner of doggy training etc! potty lark has without a doubt been my least faveourite parenting phase so far! and to make me feel even more a failure worse my friend called to say her daughter has managed to crack it, even during the night in a week and she is a year younger than christopher!!! Shock i am clearly not dedicated/consistent enough!

ed go through my fb page, her page is 'the creation station Glasgow' all details are on there. Not sure what the area is Confused...

Copied from fb.. Kidz World, m8 j11. It's either just before or just after the fort shopping centre, depending on what way you would come. I'd be heading out of Glasgow so it's on the left (huge big warehouse looking place). it's for babies, toddlers and pre schoolers so C will be more than welcome!! I'd suggest putting them into clothes you won't worry about getting messy. I came home after class this morning and gave her a bath as it looked like she had had a fight with a bottle of paint and lost! She says to let her know if you will be there so stick a wee comment down. I'll say to her anyway Smile

FuzzzyDuck · 12/03/2012 22:43

Oh and don't need to call ahead and book. She says when you go into building, the soft play area is on the left, the function rooms where she will be is on the right Smile

LittlePebble · 13/03/2012 04:11

FD hope S is feeling better, did she take her dream feed?
Sassy and BB3 gak! Oh the things I have to look forward to!
Edward where is this place you send dogs to for three days? My dog could do with being beautifully trained she's a liability...Hmm
Scheh I think you need to do whatever feels right for C. Don't feel guilty we were all fed on purees and are all fine, the concept if BLW is fairly new and I always think the advice changes so often that you shouldn't stick rigidly to anything unless it suits you and your baby. It must be tough with PND but you are doing a great job give yourself a break and trust yourself to make the right choices.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/03/2012 05:04

Haha don't know anything about it lp but isn't there like obedience schools that you can send dogs to, to get trained? Really all I meant was it would be great if someone else could do it for me Grin

OP posts:
Scheherezade · 13/03/2012 05:09

Thanks for the advice everyone :) you're all so helpful and lovely

C went to bed at 7.30/8ish, df at 11, and only just woken for feed now! Good boy Grin

He's spent a lot of time outside today because I chucked him out in the garden in the pram maybe its all the fresh air?

Jnice · 13/03/2012 05:51

scheh - we are our own worse enemies Sad what is the point of guilt? Give yourself a break hon, you are doing wonderfully and whether you use a spoon or not isn't really that important. I am a BLW convert but definitely think each family has their own needs.

I am a weepy mess tonight. I just noticed the envelope of work ds1 brought home so proudly last week that I failed to look at with him. I sat down to read it all and sobbed my heart out (he's asleep). I feel like such a failure. He did a lovely painting of a salmon as part of a science project so I will put that up in the kitchen now. Hopefully he will see how proud I am of him and I must tell him of course too. He's been a bit sullen the past few days and off course I think that must be down to my lack of attention Sad

DH said I should stop being so self obsessed!
