lo that sounds fabulously excitinga

fd we still use a monitor for dd (2 1/2) but more to eavesdrop when she's playing in her room. She's fabulous to listen to!

e're thinking about weaning here too but I mostly cba. A is 21 1/2 weeks - 5mo on Tuesday. He was 19lb when weighed a month ago.

Because of his dairy (and now possible soy) intolerance and reflux we were advised to wait and the gp said we should go back at 5 1/2 months for a referal to a dietician.

I've done load of research and concluded that a bit of blw and a bit of puree is the way to go for us but focussing on low allergenic and low acid food so root veg and bananas good for first tastes but apples, berries etc come in much later. Does that sound like a reasonable approach?

Our cranial osteopath also recommended me drinking lactofree formula to see if a reacts to it in bm and if he doesn't we could try him on that otherwise I'm going to have to express gallons of milk when he's on proper food to make sauces etc.

Sleep is bloody awful here again but Alex isn't quite himself. Not sure if its cause or effect though. I went paddling yesterday pm leaving a chilled and happy baby. Apparently he screamed from when I left for 2 hours - unless DH carried him around - when he went to sleep for 30 mins, woke up and started screaming again. He went to bed fine, woke up at 11 for a feed, back down at 12, screamed from 1 til 3 when I fed him and then he slept /suckled in my arms until 5. By 8 this morning he'd fed for as long as he usually does all day. Maybe he needs weaning or maybe there's a growth spurt about to happen. He's probably due for one since he's not grown out of any clothes for a couple if weeks!

MrsHende · 04/03/2012 10:04

Poor M! She was probably cosy though Grin.

L is sleeping a little better but I'm still struggling. My back is still aching but I'm now taking ibuprofen which is helping, at least with trying to do the exercises.

I'm feeling so annoyed with the lack of help I'm getting from DH. He is SO untidy, it drives me spare. I feel like the few hours he has been in the house and awake for the past two weeks all he does is create mayhem that I need to sort. I'm trying so hard not to be cross with him - he's having to work long hours in an attempt to get a new contract and as a result is shattered. His epilepsy is triggered by stress and tiredness so if he's not at work he's asleep. I think he has been awake at home for less than ten hours this week. He was out of bed for about three hours in total yesterday. I'm getting so angry about the mess he creates and that he does no housework at all. I'm trying to hold it in though and be understanding about the job situation and his illness and as a result I'm being silent, not very helpful.

Argh!!!!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/03/2012 10:12

mrsH sorry to hear about your DH mine is just as useless but at least yours has an excuse. i was in a car accident v late in my pregnancy with christopher and got terrible backache and i used ibuprofen gel and found it really helped to manage the pain.

I can imagine how you're feeling Mrs H. I also feel like I'm tiptoeing round DH at the moment because I don't want to add to his emotional burden. But at the same time his lethargy and lack of motivation is driving me crazy - he still hasn't unpacked his bag from our trip to the UK (we've been back a week and a half). It's still sitting on the landing and it's driving me mad...I have to sit on my hands not to tidy it away because I'm determined not to do it for him!

ed Grin at M!

fd we're so close to M (right next door) that it's almost not worth having a monitor. We have it on in the evenings when he's in bed upstairs and we were just saying last night that it seemed like a waste of money since he never wakes up in the evenings!

lemmings DH said that M was really whiny/shouting/crying all day on Thursday when I was at work. I'm putting it down to a combination of teething and also perhaps he noticed that I wasn't there?

lp so exciting to be planninga wedding! We are intending to have a big party either this year or next year to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends but I can't summon the energy to organise it right now.

Well, have done my exercise for today (5k). Running is getting easier but I swear my belly is getting bigger!

M is becoming more comfortable on his stomach...he's made it 20 minutes without complaining Grin

have a good Sunday everyone.

PenguinArmy · 04/03/2012 18:28

golemmings it is probably the cows milk protein if A reacts to milk, there is lactose is human milk as well. DD is soy intolerant (and egg and a bit of lactose)

MrsH how about a discussion saying although you understand his stress and he can't help, he should at least not add to your work. That would drive me barmy, especially if he isn't acknowledging or thanking you/apologising for it.

DS has had a bit of food, a pear and some cucumber but in big chunks. Kinda BLW in the sense I have held in front of him and then he has taken it and chomped on them. I'm in no rush but he does seem to want to start before DD did. He can sit fine in his highchair whereas even at 6 months DD wasn't great. He is 20 weeks.

DS is a bit chesty again but at least we had a week off.

Scheherezade · 04/03/2012 23:35

Can't bloody sleep Angry too much on my mind.

Am leaving weaning as long as possible, simply cba. Would rather bf in bed in the wee hours than face that right now.

FuzzzyDuck · 05/03/2012 08:17

Morning all, hope everyone had a good night of sleep. sch seen your post about the black out blinds, i think your in a rented place so maybe not able to start drilling in the walls but Ikea do fab blinds. Iv got them all round the house. It was really light here this morning, spring is def on the way Grin

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 09:35

Morning everyone! Lovely day here too Fuzzy, yesterday was a washout and cold, totally different this morning. We're going for a very long walk today and some lunch, so hope the weather stays this good.
Re weaning, we have been told to wean early when L was 20 weeks by his consultant, at the moment we've been doing just some baby rice once a day to get used to it. I'm going to start with purees next week. I did it slowly as he is ok just tasting it and having a little bit, doesn't cry when I take it away. I also wanted to wait to as close to 6 months as poss, I know once we start it's not going to be easy getting out and about. Also, need to 'educate' myself as to what to do once started, i.e. how much to give and how many times a day. Got some books, just need to find time to read them!!
I agree with people who are saying that the advice is so confusing, some health professionals are so against weaning before 6 months and some recommend weaning early. At the end of the day it all depends on our babies! All the food in the supermarkets is saying first stage is 4 months plus, so it can't be that bad!!

Scheherezade · 05/03/2012 13:02

We could put blinds up fuzzzy I'll see how the curtains work!

Nursery nurse been round to discuss weaning. Going to pick up a steriliser, ice cube trays etc on Friday! I think if I can batch cook and freeze on a weeKend then can just heat a couple cubes up a day. Will start with carrot, Apple and parsnip, not a fan of baby rice.

FuzzzyDuck · 05/03/2012 13:38

Sounds right sch. Last time I steamed 1 x sweet potato, carrot, parsnip and a handful of broccoli, put into the little ice cube lidded tubs and into freezer. Take out one the night before and leave in fridge. Usually defrosted by time I need to use at 5pm. Think I need to start adding in lunch now as I've noticed over weekend and today she is more hungry. Tried offering some more milk, but not interested. I've only got a few purées left so will use up then make double next. Does anyone know, things like rice, pasta, bread etc, is it strict 'over 6 months' kinda thing? It's went right out my mind. Need to start moving on to new tastes soon Smile

MamaMaiasaura · 05/03/2012 13:55

Just popping in. Still in throws of growth spurt and ds2 poorly. Temp 104 chest infection. Poor baby. Not much sleep. J rolling back to front and pushing bum in air now. Little wriggler. X

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 16:53

Fuzzy just had a quick look in my book, the only thing I can see is that Berry & Citrus Fruits, Fish and Shellfish, Eggs and Wheat based foods shouldn't be given before 6 months, along with Honey (not before 12 months). in this book it recommends Meats, Fish etc. to be introduced at second stage (7-9 months), but again I find this very confusing as there is no guidelines as to what to do if you are weaning early?! Confused

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 16:54

Mama - hope ds2 gets better soon! Well done on the rolling, L still trying but all he manages is to get on his side!

FuzzzyDuck · 05/03/2012 16:55

Thanks bub, I've been trawling the Internet all afternoon but the same, can't see anything listed for early weaning. Will stick with the fruit/veg another few weeks then start with some pasta, toast fingers etc. she will be close to 6 months by then so can't see the harm!

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 17:04

I know Fuzzy - no point trying to speak to health visitors etc. as they mainly are against early weaning (at least here where I live!!). I'm kicking myself for not asking L's consultant when he suggested early weaning and we're not seeing him now until mid May, but then again I didn't expect to be discussing the weaning with him so wasn't prepared! Are you ok with your HV - in which case maybe try and speak to them?

FuzzzyDuck · 05/03/2012 17:52

I'm going down to speak with HV on Wednesday about the lack of weight bearing on her legs so I'll ask about it then. I honestly can't imagine that a week or 2 shy of 26wks/6mnths will be a problem. Glad that your little L is same age/stage as S!! Grin

Jnice · 05/03/2012 19:24

scheh hope you're ok x

mama hope babe is well soon x

Quick pop-in try to catch up later.

Scheherezade · 05/03/2012 19:33

Has anyone else's daytime naps changed? C doesn't seem to want to sleep as often, or as easily!

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 19:42

Scheh we've been struggling with daytime naps for a few weeks now, can it be 4 month sleep regression?

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 19:46

Obv C is older than 4 months, but apparently it can happen between 4-6 months!

Bubalie · 05/03/2012 19:47

Fuzzy let me know what your HV says - I'm interested to know as we're starting on purees etc. next week :)

PenguinArmy · 05/03/2012 20:21

DS hit his 19 week wonder week bang on cue. Plus physical milestones which are individual can throw things out.

Good day here, it was DD's b'day but we had the party yesterday. Was good as today she would have been too ill for it.

DS is now going to sleep between 6:30 and 7:30. He did it by himself just slowly pushed earlier from 10pm. Next thing to contend with will probably be the clock change.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/03/2012 22:16

re: early weaning i would start to introduce more texture/flavours around 4 weeks after baby is eating 3 meals per day, i weaned DS on purees at 4.5 months and waited till 7 months before introducing lumps and he didnt react well totally put him off food and we had to start the whole process again at around 10 months when we just started giving him omelette, toast, sausages etc. im sure after that someone (possible HV but cant remember) said that i should have started lumps after around 4 weeks as i would have done had i waited to 6 months IYSWIM

Mhairi has also stopped sleeping as much throughout the day and has gotten a bit grumpier. Sad
she has jabs tomorrow morning 3 jabs in one morning Sad

15 minute naps here, making me long for the epic half hours we used to get! Confused

Leo was on his playmat earlier and I was pottering about, I heard screams and saw he was on his front! Rolled completely over. He's been getting stuck at his arm the past few days and he finally made it. But as soon as he did he wanted to roll back and got upset. Kids eh?

FuzzzyDuck · 05/03/2012 23:09

jnice haha I know. They try and try to roll over, finally manage it then change their minds and cry to get back again!! Grin
