Engels has he got teeth then? Gosh!

Yah for baby E sleeping through Pebble, shock to the system for you all that sleep Grin

You must have impressive biceps Scheh mucking out 30 horses.

We are not doing too bad, P was awake at 1.30am and 4.30am and "shushed" to sleep at 6am, so it definitely could be worse.

We have tried her again with the bottle this morning and the milk was coming out but she didn't really seem to have the correct sucking reflex - most of it dribbled down her face. She seemed to be able to suck it out but not swallow it. Does she just need to get used to it/remember how to do it? Any thoughts?

Well I am off to do some work now as DH is babysitting all weekend

Scheherezade · 03/03/2012 10:43

Having a minor breakdown over pumping whilst out. What do you mean by 'keep it in a bag' as in a plastic bag? My pump comes with a battery pack and manual option so its designed to be usrd out and about. I've sterilized everything, I could run boiling water over a tupperware box and put it in that...

Engelsmeisje · 03/03/2012 10:46

Yep, 2 middle bottom teeth are coming through. First saw the tips about 6 weeks ago and now they're really pushing up. He hasn't bitten me yet Grin

Engelsmeisje · 03/03/2012 10:55

Last week pa suggested to me to put the pump bit (the bit that you need to wash that the milk goes through) in a plastic zip lock bag after you've pumped and then keep in the fridge with your expressed milk. The rest of the equipment (mine is electric) I just put in my pump bag. Good luck scheh!

supergirl1 · 03/03/2012 12:53

Hi everyone. lp, how old is e and how much does he weigh? I think he and my e are about same size and he is a nightmare for sleeping! How did u start with the baby rice and how much are you giving?
Desperate mummy here!

LittlePebble · 03/03/2012 19:07

supergirl he's twenty weeks tomorrow and weighed 19lbs last time I got him weighed (about 3 wks ago) think he's around 20ish now.
I think we're going to start introducing porridge in morning and gradually start weaning but slowly. Would have liked to wait longer but he's definitely ready (what happened to my little baby Sad)

supergirl1 · 03/03/2012 20:25

Hes 2 weeks older than el then. Id assume he is prob about 19lb now too. How much baby rice are you giving him?i'm actually a bit cross at this whole weaning thing. i have a 7 year old who was an even bigger baby and started weaning at 16 weeks on hvs advice. now things have changed and i feel im being treated like an idiot. i would like to see the scientific evidence which says it is better for all babies to wait until six months. i accept it is who advice but that also includes babies in developing countries who dont have access to clean water and adequate sterilisation. they are also probably smaller babies!
In my weaning book it says that bigger babies should be content with just extra breast milk, but where are the studies to support this? Just as a six foot man needs more food than a five foot one, id assume a 19lb baby would need more than a 14lb one!
Hate being treated like an idiot and being told "it isnt recommended".there is no advice anymore on how to wean at 4 months and i feel like a bit of a leper for even considering it! Would love to not have the hassle till 6 months but dont want a miserable baby.
Rant over! Sorry!

BB3 · 03/03/2012 20:38

Supergirl, you know you're baby better than anyone so I think you just go with what feels right. Despite the WHO advice my dsis was told by her hv to introduce solids for dn at 16 weeks whereas my hv is like the weaning hitler who doesn't Elisha you should go against the guidelines in any way (so I choose not to tell her!). I'm trying to push it as long as possible as I hate the weaning phase but also the girls aren't really ready, especially Edie. If you put anything non-milk related in to her mouth (we've tried a bit of baby rice and a tiny bit of yogurt this week) and she just looks at you with disgust! Ayse-Rose is more ready and will take a bit of food if you offer but is not fussed either way so I'm in no rush, however I can see how bigger babies simply need more fuel than smaller babies (the girls are 5.5 months and about 14lb) it's very frustrating when people can't see past the rule book!

BB3 · 03/03/2012 20:38

Your baby not you're baby! Blinking iPhone!

BB3 · 03/03/2012 20:39

Doesn't Elisha???! Doesn't think! Right I'm off to bed before I write any more gibberish!!

supergirl1 · 03/03/2012 21:20

Thanks bb. hope you have a good sleep. have been reading up about it and still cant find any good solid evidence, just a series of articles quoting studies which contradict one another! Wonder how many of our hvs have read the studies and know reasons behind later weaning?

I need specifics!

Apparently the uk is one of only 35% of countries who recommend later weaning...there is an idea that early weaning is responsible for digestive problems like coeliac disease in later life, but again this isnt substantiated.
one of the reasons im.a.bit more concerned about this is that my husband has a really rare stomach condition and obv want to give my boy the best chance possible! Although my mum ( who is a doctor) thinks that is due to an overuse of antibiotics as a child... Maybe ignorance is bliss!

Jnice · 03/03/2012 23:00

Oh my, just counted it up, L is 19 weeks today! Time flies Sad

I don't know how much he weighs though... Will get him on the wii later.

FuzzzyDuck · 04/03/2012 00:27

S is 22 weeks (14.4lbs) and im going into 4th week of purée. I wanted to wait till as near to 6 but as I'll be away april/start of may, I wanted to get a good start at it while we are at home etc. she has taken to it better than I expected. I don't believe it's done any harm that it was way before 6 months. I haven't even told my HV as at the end of the day, she is my baby and I'll do as I please with her!! If you feel like your baby is ready, then go for it. I hate all this 'if baby is hungry, offer more milk'. Think it gets to a point where milk is just not enough. I believe it's helped again with her sleep. We had a few weeks of up and down but she is back to sleeping 7.30-7.30/8. Could be coincidence, who knows. Good luck with whatever you decide Smile

Jnice · 04/03/2012 01:27

I am so happy, sitting in the salon having cut and highlights I had to cancel last week. This is the longest I have been away from Leo - I hope he is ok!

With ds1 we were on purees and rice by now, with ds2 we went the BLW route and they are physically restricted by their ability to self feed, so at around 6 months the odd bit of broccoli made it in. I am not sure this time, we have held off so far but I'm not feeling it has to be one or the other. Definitely need to get him a high hair set up just so that he can sit with us easily at mealtimes instead of on my knee.

CheshireDing · 04/03/2012 03:13

That was P yesterday Jnice, she stuffed the broccoli in but then got bored very quickly. We have just actively started BLW over the last 2 days with the hope that in 4 weeks she will be more interested (she is 5 months tomorrow). My theory was that if we start now she has a month to fart about investigate the food without worrying about her getting any nutritional value etc.

So far the dog is heading for some interesting tit bits Grin.

Enjoy being pampered at the hairdressers.

BB3 · 04/03/2012 04:21

Enjoy the hairdressers jnice x

Strawberry - I think the WHO guidelines were only extended to 6 months about 6/7 years ago, before that it was 4 months so each and everyone of us were probably weaned at 4 months and are fine - I think your mum is probably more accurate with dh and as long as you're sensible about what they take I can't see any definitive reason either way x

I can't remember who asked (sorry on phone) but am back at work full time but only in the office 1-2 days a week. I wanted to do part time but the type of job / company I have would mean I'd still be called/working a lot on my days off but only being paid part time so not really worth it! I'm looking for other things though, just want to make sure I inky apply for things I really want xx

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/03/2012 04:29

Hey everyone i feel like I've not been on here for ages, my phone is off toinsurance to get screen fixed eventually. so many babies are on to weaning now, mhairi seems really interested in our food but she still falls to the side when in her high chair, plus she still seems ok with milk so ill wait a bit longer i think.
Can all the other babies sit up in highchair?
She is around 15lbs now i think (think ill get her weighed on.Monday

ps sorry for any dodgy spelling/punctuation i'm on DH 's phone and can't really work it.

Jnice · 04/03/2012 07:38

Hi ed!

Wow, it was wonderful going to the salon. I got home after 3 hours and Leo had just woken and had the bottle of ebm I left him - happy as anything! I expected to walk only mayhem and DH had all 3 boys happy Confused

We want to a friends place for dinner and got home at 11pm - insanely late! But Leo did fine in the ergo for a sleep then a quick feed and home. I am amazed at how well behaved they all were. Am now having a hard time getting him to sleep though.

Engelsmeisje · 04/03/2012 07:52

Despite me talking about weaning on the last thread (about a month ago) we haven't started. What with the trip to England and me going back to work, we just haven't got round to it! Must get highchair set up as well and see how M does in it - but am also thinking he'd fall to the side ed.

Hope you enjoyed the hairdresser's Jnice - you deserve it Grin

Weighed M yesterday and he is 7.8kg (think that's 17lb2) at 20 weeks. I keep saying how big he's getting but on Thursday came home from work and just felt like he was really tiny (that's what happens when you work with teenagers Grin ).

LittlePebble · 04/03/2012 08:13

Supergirl i started last week with just one tablespoon ebm mixed with one teaspoon baby rice at five pm.
We are going to add a feed of either baby rice or baby porridge in the morning this week and slowly see how it goes.
BB3 it was me asking about job. How on earth do you cope with your 3 and full time work Shock is your sister nannying still? Hope you find something you prefer soon x

Ed hope you don't feel pressured to start weaning early. It's so individual to each baby and I have a giant. I've been worrying about starting too early so it's nice to know others are in the same boat. BB3 you've said the same about the 4/6 months as the nurse did at my gp's on Friday.
On an exciting note we've booked a week in Italy in April to go choose a wedding venue GrinGrinGrin.

FuzzzyDuck · 04/03/2012 08:19

S is only in the last week sitting up much better in highchair. I got the ikea cheap one with the inflatable support bit. It's a great help! She was falling away forward though so I deflated the back bit and now it's perfect. It's really helping with to strengthen her back muscles. On the floor she is sitting up better and I'm able just to hold her hand to keep her steady. Still concerned with the weight bearing though. I tried her yesterday and every time she done it for a second, she moaned. Apart from sassys little E, are any of the other baby's not able to 'stand'?

Glad to hear your pamper session went well J Grin. Nothing like having your hair done to make you feel great about yourself Smile

We had an awful night. I had been at friends and picked S up on way home at 11.30pm from my mums. She was already asleep but woke when I picked her up. No problem as she was grinning away, got home and she went straight back over. But she just seemed to never get into a deep sleep and every little noise was waking her, cue me up, dummy in and back over. I'm thinking maybe if she was in her own room, she would get a much better sleep as there would be no noise, but I just don't feel ready to put her in there yet Sad. Her room is a good bit away from mine and I'd worry that I wouldn't hear her. So torn as to what to do

Hope everyone else had a good night Smile

FuzzzyDuck · 04/03/2012 08:20

Oooh!!! lp that sounds wonderful Smile. Id love to see Italy

Engelsmeisje · 04/03/2012 08:21

fd we use the baby phone at night (even though M is right next door). You can normally adjust the sensitivity as well.

FuzzzyDuck · 04/03/2012 08:27

I'm thinking I'll need to get a monitor, just had hoped it would be something that I could do without. Thanks

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/03/2012 09:50

LP no i dont feel pessurised but thanks, i am kind of hoping that when i get round to it it might help her sleep through the night? wedding in italy sounds beautiful, my SIL had a wedding in italy last summer and pics look gorgeous (i couldnt go as it was one of 3 weddings she had last year Shock and couldnt afford it) she got married in Sorrento in the hotel Capodimonte.

fuzzy mhairi has been in her own room from 3 months and she is on a different floor to us, we just have a cheap baby monitor as her mattress was too thick/firm? for the angelcare and she's been fine.

i had a lie in this morning and mhairi slept really well i went in at around 9am and she had the biggest grin ever!! i unzipped her sleeping bag and the entire bottom half along with babygrow and vest was covered in poo!! and looked like it had been there a while Sad and the poor girl had just lay there smiling.
