Started new thread, ladies - unimaginative name, but I figured it was suitable now we've been loving it up with out seats :)

I could also do Wed at TC next week I think.

We're still having major vom on a daily basis here but I really don't think it's a bug anymore. I think she's not winding properly and then a couple of feeds later it comes up and brings everything with it. It's horrible when it happens though, she looks terrified. But then she's all smiles again straight after though!

She's sitting in her Bumbo as we speak. She still looks so funny in there, staring at her feet!

busyboysmum · 17/02/2012 12:05

Great I can do Weds as well - shall we say 11am at Starbucks?

Caliphora · 17/02/2012 12:24

I'm free any day :)

Speaking of forgetting babies - my friend works at Piccadilly station, and this Christmas someone forgot their newborn baby on the platform. And didn't realise until Huddersfield...

Day and night of fever, vomit and just water for poo. Went to A&E but got sent home with paracetamol. Getting dioralyte today, and the paediatric nurse is coming out to visit.
Poor Abi is all worn out but smiling and giggling nonetheless.

Somersaults · 17/02/2012 12:48

Oh dear Cali! poor Abi. Sounds similar to what Caitlin had but worse. If it's a similar bug Caitlin was pretty much over it in 36 hours but only when we stopped giving her milk completely and just gave her cooled, boiled water to keep her hydrated as much as possible. Poor you. I hope she recovers quickly.

TC at 11am on Wednesday sounds good. I'll have to bargain with DH for the car!

Caliphora · 17/02/2012 19:08

We've taken away the milk since this morning, and giving her 2-3 ounces of dioralyte every hour. She's managing to keep that down so far, so we'll re-introduce milk tomorrow afternoon if she does better.
Fever is down now, so just waiting for her tummy to regain health.

Got booked to do 9 workshops at the local craft studio today, so in April-June I will be busy earning a bit of money!
They also asked me if I wanted to run a sewing cafe there - I'm getting a bit excited about the prospect of having a local sewing night once/month to "stitch and bitch", as it were!

Hope Abi is doing better today Cali x

Somersaults · 18/02/2012 14:52

I've left my baby for the afternoon :(

I'm at my London Olympics Games Maker training all afternoon so I had my last hug at 12.30 and I won't see her until nearly 7pm probably. I've only ever left her for an hour before and she was screaming when I got back. I've left expressed milk and she's with DH and another responsible lady friend who will actually play with her and things so I'm sure she'll be fine but it's still not nice being away from her! It was nice being able to select clothes without having to think about having readily available boobs though! I've not worn this jumper in nearly a year!!

neverinamillionyears · 18/02/2012 19:33

Somer - I'm sure you are enjoying lots of hugs by now. I know what you mean about normal clothes. I went to the cinema a week ago with dp and it was lovely although I felt that my right arm had been cut off. Yes I did cry once well ok twice but it did me and dp the world of good.

mashpot · 18/02/2012 20:54

Hi all, gosh I'm jumping back in to the chat at the right time as I had a bit of a tired cry on DH last night about the fact I can't imagine ever doing anything without F ever again and it's getting hard. I am expressing milk in readiness for leaving him one day but although he sometimes takes a bottle, if he's overtired (like he was when DH tried to give him bottle last night) he won't.

I can't stand thought of him screaming if I'm not there to calm him down with boob but I also feel a bit claustrophobic about things. It's so hard. I think I need to make myself leave him for a bit because I suspect it will get harder the longer I leave it. Sorry, babbling now but has been playing on my mind a lot.

somer hope it went well for you today.
Cali I hope Abi is better tonight.

We haven't tried a bumbo yet but must soon in honour of new thread. F's neck control isn't great yet though, I worry I haven't given him enough tummy time because he always cries, I hope he can catch up!

sasamunde · 18/02/2012 21:34

mash I know exactly what you mean. I have spent the last couple of weeks wingeing at DH that he has the freedom to go out etc and I can't cos Blake won't take a bottle, and now, he's gone to sleep! In his room! I got really excited for about 10 minutes. And I'm sitting down here feeling bereft (up until now he has sat in my arms till 11 at the earliest) and I miss him already :)

Caliphora · 18/02/2012 21:54

Abi won't sleep in a room we're not in. We tried putting her to bed in her cot upstairs - she woke up after 40 minutes and cried murder.
But being bottle fed, I do get nights out (much needed), and DP can take over when I need sleeps.
She's a lot better today, although it seems she's passed the bug to us now!

Truffkin · 18/02/2012 23:05

Some of those 'forgot the baby' stories have really shocked me. How could you be on a train for that long and not realise your child wasn't with you?! Lucas has been going to bed at half seven / eight o' click for a few weeks now and I miss him!

We managed to get out to the cinema together last week whilst my MiL babysat. I've had 1 night out and 2 weekend lunches so have left Lucas a few times for a few hours each time. I'm lucky that I can express milk fairly easily and Lucas will take a bottle from anyone. We're out next Friday for dinner at some friends' for a birthday and my Mom is babysitting. He's really fine with anyone (my sister had him for a few hours yesterday, whilst I was at the hairdressers) but I miss him lots after about an hour. God help me when I go back to work!

Sorry to hear Abi is poorly and really hope the medicine is getting her better, poor little love.

So, Lucas is being baptised tomorrow and I'm so excited. The gown is hanging upstairs in his wardrobe, alongside the lively coat my Dad bought him especially for the occasion. He also has the cutest little hat. I will have to put a picture on the Facebook group so you can see how cute he looks all dressed up. I'm wearing a dress that I can't feed in so have 2 bottles of expressed milk ready and waiting. I can't wait to get to Monday when I'll just be feeding him myself all day as he's had a bottle or 2 of expressed milk since Friday for various reasons. He's been waking a lot more in the night (every 2 hours, I 'm thinking growth spurt) the last 2 nights so he has had a lit of BFing aswell.

Somersault, how funny about the ceiling light! It is in other people's houses too, not just at home. I'd love to know what makes them so fascinating Grin

mashpot · 19/02/2012 02:30

Truffkin have a lovely day, I'm sure it will be. Can I also ask a question - if you have to miss a bf or two and you're giving a bottle, are your boobs ok ? You don't need to express to stop leaking or to avoid supply issues?

Somer enjoy your evenings! I get F to bed now by 7.30 and I love that bit of time in the evenings but I pop into our room to check he's ok every twenty minutes!

goldmaple · 19/02/2012 06:18

Love the thread name!! DH and I spent valentines day driving 30mins each way to pick up a used bumbo! Very romantic :)

Emme rolled over twice from tummy to back at 3.5 months but I think she was trying to go forwards as she looked very confused both times. No repeats yet.

Sorry if this was discussed on the last thread but has anyone else's baby started waking up up at 3am again? When they previously slept 11-5 or 6am? It's been going on for a week so it seems long for a growth spurt

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 19/02/2012 08:41

Hello goldmaple I reckon you're on the infamous 4 month growth spurt! It's a massive period of growth that can last a few weeks, so stick with it. Some parents choose the time to introduce baby rice but that's personal choice. Personally, I won't be using baby rice but that's just me and each to their own. It is perfectly normal phase of growth though - just a pita when they've been sleeping through. I find once they've started sleeping through and you're used to it, it's worse somehow when they start waking again! DS has been going 7-7 for the past 2 weeks so I'm not looking forward to 4 months... :)

And yes to starbucks at 11 on wed. DP chuffed as I'll pop to selfridges and pick up some sushi for our tea.

sasamunde · 19/02/2012 11:15

Blake just drank his first bottle Grin I just made 3oz and he downed it and looked slightly disappointed that it was all gone! He's now bf'ing as well, hungry chap. But quite excited at the prospect of going out for a couple of hours occasionally now. Then 4 month sleep regression - bring it on, I am armed and ready... DH can do the odd feed...

Poppet45 · 19/02/2012 16:37

Another one contemplating the impending 4 month sleep regression here! I'd echo what MrsA said that alot of people take it as a sign that their wee one 'needs' solids but its actually just a huge mental shift as they develop which has nothing to do with their tums but everything to do with them not being able to switch off for a while. Jacob's was awful but his sleep improved rapidly just a week before he turned 6 months, which was also just a week before we gave him food. If we'd done it earlier no doubt we'd have said it was the solids that helped him sleep but while they help in the short term - for about a day or so as baby has to rest as it takes a lot out of them digesting all those lovely new tastes - However longer term they soon learn to go back to their insomniac ways with or without solids. Willow is already a better sleeper so we'll have to see what were in store for. Speaking of which she is 6 months this week, weighing in at 10lb 2oz Shock and the paediatrician took one look at her and said, no rush for solids! I'd love it if we could wait long enough for her to do some BLW but we'll just have to see.

busyboysmum · 19/02/2012 17:48

Oooooowwwww today I have been mostly suffering from mastitis! I feel dreadful, achy and fluey and my boob is so sore. Anyone else had this? How long does it last? It is so unfair as Luke slept through last night and I woke at 4am with mastitis!!! Life is so cruel. Have spent the day feeling sorry for myself and googling it and will be taking the breast pump to bed with me tonight.

hadak · 19/02/2012 19:30

Hi Ladies
Glad to catch up with you all. Love the new name.
Just had a quick read so apologies if I miss anybody.
Poppet Glad the DF diet working well for Willow.
Sas horray for the bottle takiing. It will give you some time away without being on feed alert.
Busy Sorry to hear about the mastistis. I haven't had anything like this it sounds so painful. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Everybody who has had the tummy bug hope you are recovering well.
We are off for our 2nd Jabs this week. Grrrrr.
4 month sleep regression- I am feeling rather smug about as we don't get any sleep anyway so we shan't be missing anything < very hollow lol>
I am def going back the docs armed with my sleep spreadsheet as I am going completely nuts through lack of sleep and even worse is watching the little one in soo much discomfort.
Hope you all ahve a good week. I have my neice visiting this week so I may not be about so much. Enjoy the TC meet ladies.
Off to rescue OH from the scream monster.

kate393 · 19/02/2012 20:35

busy I had mastitis when was still breast feeding...it sucks, just like flu... I found pumping was the way to go but it took a while to stop feeling so rubbish, if you can pump as much as poss, drink lots of water and try and sleep it off...also expressing in the bath I found helped with the warm water on sore boob!! Sorry it really is bobbins!!

Truffkin · 19/02/2012 22:19

Well, we've had the most lovely day. It was a bit hit & miss when Lucas produced a poonami during the service and cried a lot. I don't think he could understand why we were making him wait to be changed Sad We had to detour home to clean him up and wash the gown before heading to the reception! All of the children played beautifully together, Lucas was passed around happily and charmed everyone. I had a very emotional moment this evening when we were opening cards and presents as people have been so thoughtful and generous. I feel very lucky that he will have such lovely people around him as he grows up.

Sorry to be such a soppy wuss Grin

Mash I find that if I miss 2 feeds I definitely need to express to stop leaking and give my poor, swollen boobs some relief! I'm lucky to have had a very plentiful supply since day 1 but am conscious of not taking it for granted so I do always express as much as possible. Yesterday I missed 2 feeds and was desperate to feed Lucas when I got home. I fed him and still managed to express 8ozs for the freezer!!

Caliphora · 19/02/2012 22:35

Would just like to add to the boob talk:
Even though my milk dried up two months ago, my boobs are still a 38JJ :(

OP posts:
TeenyLeek · 19/02/2012 22:41

I've had mastitis a few times Busy, but with DS so a while ago. Lots and lots of feeding helps. If it's really bad the only thing for it is antibiotics I think. Hot showers are good to try to help clear things, but if it's properly blocked and infected antibiotics will def sort it.
Cabbage leaf in the bra can help cool down a very hot sore boob, also grated potato (sounds mad I know) can help clear a blockage before it turns into mastitis. (it did work for me on more than one occasion but is a bit awkward and messy!)
I feel for you, hope it passes quickly. Sad

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 20/02/2012 12:24

Ooh mastitis sounds horrible. Hope you get over it soon.

On the boob front, I'm with you Cali. I am still expressing a small amount for DS but my boobs have remained big - D cup and before I had DD in 2008 I was a B cup. Not complaining!

Well, I have no idea what i've done - actually all credit to DS, he's done it himself) but in the past few days we've gone from 8 or 9 feeds a day sometimes every 90 mins, to just 5 a day now. Literally overnight. He now has 2 mahoosive bottles at 7.30am and 10am, then he sleeps 11-2, has a small bottle and then 2 large bottles around 5ish and 7pm, then sleeps for 12 hours.
I simply have no idea how he knows how to do it but he does. DD was just the same except her need for food was never as great so she got it at 5 days old. DS is now just like her for sleeping but his milk needs are far greater to it's taken him longer.
Nothing we've imposed or forced - still feeding on demand - it's all being led by DS but I do believe it might be gene related. DP and I were decent sleepers as babies apparently and even now, DP could fall asleep on a washing line!

I have no idea how or why really, just loving the sleep. But I also know how those sleep deprived feel so I'm not trying to brag honest, I just need to share cos I can't on fb. Plus, he'll probably prove me wrong and wake through the night soon to serve me right Grin

Right better do some housewotk before he wakes from his nap. Looking forward to wednesday!

alicat10 · 20/02/2012 17:13

Mastitis is rough - hope you're recovering.

Also hope Cali household all well now.

Every time I do anything hormonal (on or off pill, babies) my boobs have grown - 32DD at 21 to currently 34J at 34 while bf - sadly they have lost their stuffing over the years Blush
