Thought I'd steal the honours of setting up a new thread

mawbroon I wouldnt worry too much if he is still sleeping for 2 and a half hours during the day at lunchtime. And also if he is sleeping 7pm - 7am he is doing great. I meant to ask do you still do a late feed at 10pm or does he go straught through? If I were you I would be very proud of yourself as he is still exclusively breastfed and is sleeping through the night - WELL DONE Grin

Elf1981 · 22/03/2006 19:15

MB - Evie changed her sleeping patterns a few weeks ago, she used to have such set times for sleep, but it totally threw me the first few days when she suddenly changed her usual times, and by a good few hours! I think you and I have very similar babies - sleep pattern wise and the fact they didn't know which way was up in the womb!

Dh is just getting Evie ready for bed, she's very tired. The stuff up the nose didn't go down too well!

Going to slather in her vapor rub now...

How are you today elf - are you tired? do you have lots of extra running around? is it difficult having to meet time deadlines?

Elf1981 · 22/03/2006 20:13

mg - it isn't too bad tbh. I try to get most of the things sorted in the evening. I get Evie's bag ready with her nappies etc, put all my work stuff together (so purse, carpark pass, work pass, fruit etc), put all the EBM in the fridge with juice, and scoop out Evie's breakfast cereal into a sealable bowl so that the CM just has to add milk. I have a bath in the evening once Evie is asleep, dry & straighten my hair so it's decent in the morning.
I get up at six, express one boob, have breakfast and then have a wash. Once I've put my make up on, brushed my hair and my bottom half of clothes on, I wake Evie up (about half six). I get her dressed, feed her and then get her ready to go. I leave at 7:10 to get to the CM for 7:20, leave there at 7:30 to be in the office at 8:00.
I leave the office bang on four (except I was late today as I got halfway out the building and realised I'd left the milk I'd expressed at lunch time and had to go back!) and pick Evie up at 4:30, and we're home by 4:50- 5:00, and thats with a long chat to the CM and driving through bad traffic.
It's working so far (touch wood), hopefully it will continue. I'm not very tired, though I forgot to put something in the microwave and so waited for five mins while this thing was heating up and then opened the microwave and was surprised to find nothing inside!!
Are you returning to work?

OP posts:
mawbroon · 22/03/2006 21:15

Phew Elf - I feel stressed just reading about everything you have to do in the morning. I used to find it hard enough to get myself sorted to go to work. Mind you, that was mostly due to overuse of the snooze button and of course babies don't have one of those!! Wink

MG - no, I don't do an evening feed. When I say 7pm to 7am I mean right through without us having to go in. If he does wake, it tends to be between 3 and 4am and I just crawl into the spare bed in his room and the two of us snuggle up. He feeds and I sleep. It means that my night is only disrupted for about 2 minutes until I get him latched on. I pop him back in his cot when I wake up again - this can be anything from 30 mins to 3 hrs later!!

mummygow · 22/03/2006 22:33

No elf not returning to work did think about it but would feel too guilty leaving Cameron when I never left Jess but have much admiration for how organised you sound.

MB I am hoping to cut that feed out this week as I started Cameron on a breakfast this morning. Cameron has been wakening between 5.30 and 6am again this week but he cut out his late nap this afternoon (norm has 30 mins) so hopefull he might go through till 7am (when he wakes he isn't hungry, he doesnt take his bottle until 7am)

This sounds so corny but every time I look at him I can't beleive how beautiful he is and when he smiles his whole face lights up. Jessica is great with him, I popped him in his pram in the kitchen this afternoon and Jess had a fab time pushing him around whilst I made the dinner!!

RedTartanLass · 23/03/2006 10:49

Been to Berlin for a few days, it’s taken ages to catch up with thread!!

SusiS – sounds like you had a great time, lovely to hear from you.

Muumygow - how are you today sweetie? Your last post made me cry, about how beautiful your baby is. If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?

Red37 has those teeth popped through yet?

Mawbroon- Scarlett started herself on finger foods!! She grabbed a piece of breadstick and started gnawing on it with her 4 wee teeth. I think it help her teeth!

Yorkefleet – can’t believe Thomas is 6 months!! Next week!!!

Piggiesmum – hope you have a nice weekend at in-laws

Nervousmum – wow 18lb

Elf – been thinking about you all week, honestly! I’m back to work full-time on Monday, but am about to start a sex discrimination grievance with them!! Sooooooooooooo pissed off with them, need to start another thread!

mummygow · 23/03/2006 11:07

RTL I will be 30 in a few months - why do you ask? Did you have a nice time in Berlin?

mawbroon · 23/03/2006 12:09

Oh dearie me. Johnny's morning nap is now non existent. I spent over an hour trying to get him to sleep this morning which was futile. So, I thought ok if he's wide awake then lets go out and enjoy this lovely weather. I put him facing outwards in the sling for the first time. Cue screaming..... I even had to BF him sitting right in the middle of the pedestrian presinct to calm him down. We came straight home and he passed out in the car.

So, he won't sleep in the morning, but he's too tired to do anything else. I think that had I put him facing inwards in the sling that he would just have nodded off, but the excitement of seeing everything was just too much for him.

It really is trial and error isn't it, but then the goalposts keep moving......

nervousmum · 23/03/2006 12:28

I'm very Envy with all the babies that are sleeping through. Joey was, up until we went on that disasterous holiday 8 weeks ago, and since then i still have to get up 2-3 times a night with him and usually resort to feeding him back to sleep! It would appear to have no correlation with eating either, as he has breakfast (has done for the last week), as well as a substantial lunch and tea. Maybe my breastmilk just isn't up to the task anymore, even though there seems to still be plenty of it. The only night he's slept all the way through recently was after we tricked him into having 120mls formula milk right after his nap (when he was too dozy to notice the difference between the bottle and my boob!Grin).

As for daytime naps, we are lucky if Joey manages one nap during the day (usually about 2 hours long), and he will only sleep if we push him round the village first! Still, at this rate my legs and bum will be nice and toned to fit into my holiday bikini for May when we go to Greece! (just a shame about the rest of me!!!Grin)

Elf1981 · 23/03/2006 12:51

RTL - what is going off at work? I did a search to see if you had another thread, but couldn't find one.
NM - lol about the bikini. Envy about the holiday too, me, DH and Evie are going to Costa de Mablethorpe (Dh's way of making it seem more exciting!).
MB - bless. I put Evie in the sling and though she'd go to sleep, but she was far too excited and was wide awake and then very hard to settle afterwards.

RE sleeping - Evie is currently waking up a lot in the night. The past two nights have been quite bad, sometime waking every 30 mins. Mostly due to her cold, and I think she's teething (bright red cheeks and ears, she feels like she's on fire!). She's been sleeping in the baby bouncer for the past two nights (more upright than the cot, and softer than the carseat) and so DH has been sticking his foot out the bed and rocking her which has been soothing her and I've been feeding as required. Bless her, cant wait for her to be better.

Have enjoyed catching up on this thread. Alice is now 5 months, we had her christened last Sunday. It went really well, she managed not to scream during the service, despite it being time for her nap, then had a nice sleep while we ate lunch and was happy to be held by all her relatives all afternoon.

Very Envy of those with babies sleeping through the night. We had a couple of nights of Alice sleeping 11-7 last week and thought we'd cracked it, but she's now gone back to waking for a feed around 5 or 6. She does tend to go back off to sleep after that though, but usually dd1 gets up shortly afterwards. She's still exclusively bf, will wait until we get back from our week in Portugal in 3 weeks to begin weaning her - she'll be almost exactly 6 months then.

She's rolled over once without her nappy on, but I think her big cotton nappy stops her doing it during the day. I thought it might help her balance to sit up, but she still topples amusingly when I let go of her. She's not keen on her doorway bouncer or her walker yet so is still spending most of her time in the bouncy chair.

Sorry for the long post, just know I won't have time to post again for a while.

SusiS · 23/03/2006 21:44

hey ladies!
so nice to read up on all your kids development!
well, since back from hols everything's mixed up :( - i really have to write down for a few days her napping pattern because i don't have a clue if she's even got set times Shock -
and feeding? not much better. somehow we are back on feeding on demand - no idea how that happened!!! note to myself: stick to at least 3 hours in between. yeah right, and how do i make her stop screaming????
because the last few days she seems enouuuuurmously hungry - growthspurt?

we've started weaning 2 weeks ago. and well, we had a tough first week and already a 'sparrow day' (mouth opened faster than i could feed her) but somehow i never time it right. and every time i try to feed her solids she is either extreeeemly hungry or dead tired and won't cooperate! 'grmpf' - oh well, patience patience ... rome wasn't built in one day!

omg, all your kids are on 3 meals already????? - the first few weeks did you realise that your kids had some tummy troubles? wind?

because that seems to keep her awake during the night :( - no sign of sleeping through anywhere!! - she does go to bed at 6pm though and wakes first at 1ish; but dummy will do the trick. but at 3am she mostly is hungry (thirsty?) and wants a couple of oz! i tried water or diluted formula, she takes both. but still wants something!! then she'll wake about 5ish for another 2oz and will sleep till 7! which is nice because it gives me the time to deal with my other monster (he's 22 months now!) and oh boy is he a monster atm Shock - terrible 2s here we come!!!!!!!

and she also seems to be teething. bright red cheeks today and lots of crying and even screaming! till i gave her some calpol

playwise she discovered her feet and can play for hours! also any kind of rattles are good and paper!!! - she's got an activity seat which she likes alot; but mostly she just grabs anything and throws her arms around like some famous drummer!!!
and she does like her big brother! any kind of attention from him and she's in heaven :o

jarm: how are your 2 getting on????
elf: wow! you sure are organised!! guess there's nothing that can throw you
ponto: great that you had such a nice christening. bet alice looked just cute :)

mawbroon · 24/03/2006 14:46

BlushBlush I think I discovered what all the screaming was about when I was out yesterday......

When I got home and went to change his nappy, I found the nappy nippa that I had lost was inside his nappy. It was between the liner and the nappy so I hadn't seen it. The poor little mite was getting stabbed in his boyhood every time he moved a little in the sling.

I feel so bad. But he's fine now - it's just his teeth that are giving him bother today...

nervousmum · 24/03/2006 18:19

My sympathies Mawbroon - we were up all night with Joey again, i'm convinced it's his teeth!

DP and i have finally set a date for our weddingSmile. It's going to be in December, so i get to be a winter bride and wear a beautiful deep red dress (well, i can hardly wear white now, can i?!?Grin). Now i just have the 'fun' of planning the day, including trawling the shops to find a little suit for Joey (who will be 15 months old by then) to wear. I'm so excited! We always meant to get married pre-children, but these things happen.

mummygow · 24/03/2006 22:00

oh no MB - well these things happen and as he's alright so no harm done!! You were prob more upset than him.

CONGRATULATIONS NM - red dress sounds so romantic and stunning. Joey will look so cute in his wedding outfit - your dp will not have a look in with how gorgeous you two will be.

Yokefleet · 25/03/2006 08:15

CONGRATULATIONS MN a December wedding sounds fab! (my parents married 7th Dec!)
Still having bad nights here with Thomas with his teething, although last night he only woke once at 2.30am and his daddy got up with him at 6am so I have had a lay in! bliss (I actually feel human this morning!)
mb bad mummy! Wink Wink

SusiS · 25/03/2006 14:01

CONGRATULATIONS nm!!! sounds fab :) - are you planning on a big one or just close friends? - will ask you for tips later because it might happen here too Wink

ouch mb, happens to the best of us! a big cuddle and he won't even remember :)

and we did it again!!!! caitlin fell off the sofa Shock - i can't believe it! we knew she just started rolling over but since it was only 3 times so far we didn't give it too much of a thought - but BANG! Blush feeling really bad Sad

mawbroon · 25/03/2006 16:06

Congratulations NM. I hope you find all the planning exciting and not too stressful!

Johnny sat in his highchair at the table with us both today whilst we were having lunch. He sat the whole time making chewing motions with his mouth. He was obviously just copying us but I think he will be more than ready for the weaning when we actually do it. 4 weeks to go!! Grin

Is Caitlin OK SusiS?

It's a lovely day here again and DH and I have just been out for a walk. Johnny is getting really heavy for carrying in the front sling and I am waiting to see if my bid for the backpack on Ebay is successful..... He's 13lbs 10 at the moment, which is a lot to cart around on my front, although the two of us together still weigh less than I did when I was pregnant. I don't know how I managed to walk anywhere!!

Elf1981 · 25/03/2006 16:40

how come shopping takes twice the time?! I went to morrinsons with my mum today, it took us two hours. Reason? Evie is a granny magnet, stopped on every aisle to be asked questions about her, and she was in showing off mode and lapping it up!

NM - congrats on the wedding plans!
Susi - hope Caitlin is okay
MB - I carry Evie in the front facing sling and it almost kills me (15lbs 8!)

mawbroon · 25/03/2006 22:40

LOL Elf. Johnny is the same. Even the spotty teenage BOY on the checkout in Tesco winked at him and got a huge smile in response! Gone are the days though that someone might wink at me.......

we have not had a peep out of him since he went to bed at 7pm. I wonder if he will sleep all night. I am planning to pump milk for the freezer the next couple of times that he sleeps through as pumping the bursting boobs first thing in the morning is by far the easiest way to get a lot of milk in a short time. I keep saying I'm a lazy mummy Grin

Yokefleet · 26/03/2006 09:09

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE [GRIN]

mummygow · 26/03/2006 09:42

nervousmum · 26/03/2006 11:36

Elf1981 · 26/03/2006 19:22

DH got me a gorgeous card and a me to you bear (I collect them) with some thornton chocolates from Evie. I also got a card from my mum, dad and two sisters congratulating me on my first mothers day! Bless, it was really sweet.
