Thought I'd steal the honours of setting up a new thread

wohoooo we are back! well a week already but had some troubles to adjust back again! hols was great. first week with childcare and skiing. kids loved the nursery there. and we had lots to eat :o - second week to see my family in vienna. was nice too just very exhausting. and then the long drive back hom but woheyy, good old home!

so how's everyone and what news is there?

well, i started caitlin on solids the day we came back from hols and at first she didn't take to it at all!!! i tried different tastes and on the 3rd day i realised that i am way to fast for her!!! (i read back how i weaned ds and i actually started with 1 (!) spoon a day - and now caitlin i expect to eat a full icecube at once Blush) - so i am slowing down and actually moved on to fruits which she seems to like more (now there's a surprise!) - i even gave her some (glutenfree) joghurt today. oh boy did she love that!!! (after 7 spoonfull i stopped, promised!) - sleep hasn't improved much (yet) - also it seems like she doesn't need the 3am feed really! the last few days she had 1-2oz so today i'll try some water instead (might take a milkbottle with me though; just in case :o) -
sizewise: she's just changed to 6-9mth clothes; a bit big still but the others were way too small! and a very good reason for me to go and do some shopping Wink

Elf1981 · 18/03/2006 22:41

NM - I've never defosted one yet (was doing food fresh and wasting a lot, only freezing now due to need to get organised for CM).
I'm assuming they are okay, my logic being that they do frozen melon balls!
I'll give it a taste once I have defrosted it to make sure they're okay, but it would have been wasted anyway so I haven't lost anything even if it doesn't taste quite right.
Evie had a fresh mango puree today and gobbled it down, seemed quite disappointed that it was all gone. She seems to be eating a lot more all of a sudden, so I'm just going with the flow. Still doing the same amount of milk feeds, she's probably taking slightly less on one feed, but she seems happy.

Thanks MB thats a lovely offer but Cameron hates going out in the cold - it catches his throat and he panicks, but I would love to maybe come and see you in the good weather - maybe thats why I'm a bit fed up, as the winter has been so long this year and I am eagerly awaiting the nice weather to get out and about!!!

lol at Johnny's poo's!!

Made broccoli, cauliflour and carrot (all mixed together) and Cameron didn't really go for it, so will make some broccoli on it's own today.

He is teathing quite badly just now - has been quite grizzly for last couple of days so has only been eating baby yoghurts - I think the coldness feels nice on his wee gums!! (should'nt really complain as he has still been sleeping till 6.30am, fingers crossed x)

Susis glad you had a great time!!

Elf just reading your list of prepared foods again and really want to get butternut squash as my friend was telling me yesterday that her ds loved that when he was a baby - I really need to become a little more adventurous with my fruit selections though!! Must get through the brocolli, cauliflour, carrots and apples I have in just now though!!

mummygow · 19/03/2006 08:23

NM meant to ask is the AK book really good, my friend loved this for both baby and toddler foods, is it as good as she says?

red37 · 19/03/2006 08:25

Morning all, ds is teething at moment, really grizzly(poor little mite), got the herbal teething powders-anyone used them?

mummygow · 19/03/2006 08:27

red I use ashton and parsons and they are good but ran out of them this morning so afraid I resorted to some calpol BUT it seems to have worked - YEH

red37 · 19/03/2006 08:31

thanks mummygow

Elf1981 · 19/03/2006 09:45

MG - I have a Mark and Spencers baby cook book, cost me £5 and it has suggestions for each food age, so 5-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months etc all the way through to five years. It's been a really good buy.
One suggestion they have for butternut squash was it with parsnip and apple. I dont know about that combination though!!

Red, the powders go down a treat with Johnny. The only trouble is that it's hard to tip in half a sachet accurately!!
Johnny has started making funny singing noises whilst he's feeding. It seems like he's discovered that he can do both things at once! I just tell him not to talk with his mouth full Wink. He's also started to suck his thumb with his index finger curled round his nose. It's really cute and is apparently exactly what his Daddy did. I also note that it's always his left hand. DH is left handed so I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny is too.

Hope you all had a good weekend
MBSmile

nervousmum · 19/03/2006 19:09

Mummygow - yes, the AK book is really good! As well as loads of recipes for the different age groups, there's loads of useful nutritional info and the 'hows and whys' of weaning. I bought it on a recommendation, and it was well worth the money.

Joey has been a little monkey today, had real issues with getting him to go down for his afternoon nap. He was so grumpy and unsettled, i resorted to putting him on our bed and getting in with him for a couple of hours!

ButtonMoon · 19/03/2006 21:32

For those fellow mini pill takers. My GP prescribed me one which you have 12 hours to take and is supposed to prevent ovulation too. The 3 hour thing is a right pita when I had DD. Pressure atarting to buils from all corners now re: weaning. "Oh he might sleep better when he has "real food"" What the bloody hell do you think he's been havin for the last 5 and a half months then? "Oh look, don't be cruel, he really wants some of you pudding, he's dribbling all over his top" and he has already benn given 2 easter eggs today, white choc of course cos that's not as bad as the brown stuff LOL!!! I went back to work last week and it wasn't as bad as I thought but boy did I miss my babies!! DH has said I don't have to go back if I don't want to but tbh the money is nice for little luxuries and it's only one day a week and keeps me a bit of sanity!!

trice · 20/03/2006 08:55

I have been getting ready for weaning. Not planning on feeding her until the end of april though.

I bought some freezer cubes for baby food and a blender also some cute bowls and spoons.

I don't hold with cookbooks. ds used to love strawberry and broccoli puree which you would never get in a cookbook Smile.

mawbroon · 20/03/2006 10:06

I don't know if any of you read the thread that I started regarding Johnny's slow down in weight gain, but tiktok (who seems to know her stuff) suggested that if I am waiting to 26 weeks (only 4 and half more weeks!!!) then I could possibly manage to skip the baby rice and purees and put him straight on to finger food. I am planning to do that (I'm to lazy to puree if I don't have to!!!) but if he can't cope with the finger foods straight away then I can do some pureeing.

trice - strawberry and broccolli Shock did you ever taste it yourself? I'm just trying to imagine what colour it is - but of course if your LO loved it, then why not!!?

Buttonmoon - similar here, but not quite so bad re the pressure. MIL said oh but you don't have to wait until 6 months, you could always start a week or two early. Oh yes, I said, of course you can, secretly thinking that if I had made it this far, I was damned well, making it to 26 weeks.....

Johnny is getting weighed today at the baby group (unless he decides to nap at that time and we miss it) so we'll see what the HV has to say about it today..

MBSmile

mawbroon · 20/03/2006 10:06

Buttonmoon - LOL re white choc. Is that the same way as brown sugar is "healthier" than white Wink

Yokefleet · 20/03/2006 11:58

ELF was it today that you have gone back to work? if so I hope it has gone ok

Elf1981 · 20/03/2006 14:28

Work tomorrow. Evie is at the CM today though all day, but I'm around for any disasters. It's my anniversary so DH and I are skiving.
I dont want to go back to work. I am hating the idea and feel :( everytime I think about it.
Ahh well.
Evie cried the other day when I picked her up from the childminders as she loves everybody fussing over her. Tomorrow she is going to Baby and Toddler group with the CM & her sister who is also a CM. So she'll be there, probably not missing me, having loads of people cooing over her while I am sat at work, feeling brain dead and having a quick cry while I express milk!

mawbroon · 20/03/2006 15:57

Oh Elf. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. Sad and Happy Anniversary Grin How long have you been wed?

We are just back from the baby group where DS was weighed. He has put on 4oz HOORAY. He's still only just above the 2nd centile though, but hey that's only a graph Grin

Elf1981 · 20/03/2006 22:00

Wayhey MB about the weight gain!
I've been married two years today :)

Expect a post from me around lunch time crying, or at 5:00 as I'll probably be spending my lunch expressing.

Hopefully our evening will be better tomorrow, tonight was disrupted as people came to give us cards etc so Evie was really tired and fed up. Hopefully tomorrow will be better as I will be home with her by half four and we can have some chill out time & sleep before DH gets home.

Piggiesmum · 20/03/2006 23:05

Happy Anniversary Elf, and Good Luck tomorrow

MG - why the sad face?

mummygow · 20/03/2006 23:19

piggiesmum I'm fed up at the moment - dont have any particular reason just feel kind of crap, tired, fed up, cant be bothered with anything - just a bloomin maon actually. Went round to sil house tonight to listen to Dancing with Life by Susan Jeffers and she gave me her book Feel the Fear and do it anyway to read. I went onto her website and she also has a book called Free yourself from the mad myths of parenthood, so quite fancy that but I know it's a phase and it will pass as went through it with Jess and came out fine on the other side!! Grin

thanx for caring

Yokefleet · 21/03/2006 08:53

BELATED HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ELF and hope all goes well for you today.

MB thats great news

MG hope you are having a good day too.

I am shattered Thomas woke crying like I have never heard him cry before Sad think it is his teeth, the Bonjela seems to be working now but have been up with him since just after 4 this morning. Anyway going to go to my parents house to put their heating on as they are back from holiday tomorrow night Grin so will get Thomas to sleep in the car/pram

mummygow · 21/03/2006 09:35

GOOD LUCK ELF!!!!

Feeling much better today - Cameron woke at 5.30am but we didn't get up until 5.50 but instead of wakening and think - I'm tired I thought lets get up and have a play!!

Played with Cameron, fed him, sang to him, gave Jess her breakfast, washed livingroom windows, made sweet potatoe and butternut squash, washed kitchen floor and popped out to shops for milk - all this before 9.30.

Have also done my clinique 3 steps this morning and had 3 pints of water!!

This is first day of my new positive attitude (until the next time I come crying on all of your shoulders - lol)

YF hope Thomas is o.k and hope your day gets better.

How is everyone else this morning?

mummygow · 21/03/2006 09:36

oh I meant to say didn't have to take kids to shop - dh is home sick from work - I'm not supermum (we are all still in pj's)

mawbroon · 21/03/2006 09:55

Wow Mummygow. I'm impressed. I am normally up and dressed by 8am, but DH didn't have to be in work until later today as he was down south yesterday and had to get up at 4am, so I just took Johnny into bed for the morning feed and some time with Daddy. I'm still in my dressing gown and now giving Johnny his pre nap feed!!

We are going to the garden centre today to buy seed potatoes and other stuff for the garden. Not quite sure when I will find the time to plant anything, but I should at least try.....
