Thought I'd steal the honours of setting up a new thread

any "teething tips" would be really helpful right now!!

RedTartanLass · 10/03/2006 08:19

Sorry Yorkefleet, no tips at all, and poor wee dd has 4 now! And ds2 has back teeth coming in, and I'm on anti-biotics for a tooth infection and have spent the last 2 nights banging my head against the wall in pain!!

All I can say is, if you think their teething and have tried all the usual to comfort and thy're still unhappy, dish the Calpol. However, I never have to with dd, as she doesn't seem to suffer. Except that time she went to hospital of course, but she wasn't suffering just not eating Grin

So basically a long ramble for nothing [shame] Wink

YOKEFLEET · 10/03/2006 08:24

rtl I was sure you'd haVE SOME with all that "toothy" goings on! Wink
one very tired and emotioal mummy here at the moment Sad

RedTartanLass · 10/03/2006 08:28

You ok Yorkie? Is the past few weeks getting to you?

mawbroon · 10/03/2006 08:52

Yokefleet - Johnny seems to get some help from Ashton and Parsons powders. His eyes light up when he sees the wrapper and he munches down the powder with glee (even though it tastes of nothing!!) and they do seem to help - don't ask me why though - there's nothing in them!! It's a bit worrying that white powder in a wrap has such an effect on him at this tender age........Wink

Elf1981 · 10/03/2006 09:04

lol
Evie's eyes light up when I get the teething gel out from the changing bag. Then she'll suck on my finger for ages, making sure she's got all of it!! (it was some I picked up from Morrinsons, sugar free etc and suitable from birth).
Frozen teething ring works well, though have a few in the freezer as they melt really quickly.

Thanks everyone, just grabbing 5 mins whilst Thomas has his nap
rtl thanks was finding Thomas hard work yesterday and this morning and got really teary, just hard not being able to soothe him I guess. (my parents went on hol on Wed for 2 weeks so am isolated for the first time since having him) am ok really just over tired, it has been a hard year to far with moving house, death in the family, dh being made redundant etc but hopefully things will pick up soon. by the way sorry bout my typing earlier but with a screaming 23w old it was the best I could do!! Grin
mawbroon where will I get the powders from? Boots? When I went to the local independant chemist yesterday he gave me a choice of Bongela or Bongela - wasn't very helpful
elf Thomas hasn't been keen on the cold rings, don't know why really as he usually has his food/milk cold. I tasted the Bongela and didn't like the taste but Thomas kept grabbing the tube to put the whole thing in his mouth!
Just hoping that the weather improves so that I can get ds out in his pram for the afternoon, yesterday it rained all day but the forecast is better for this afternoon.
Sorry for my rabble Blush

Elf1981 · 10/03/2006 09:37

Aw, hope things ease up for you YF, you have had a bad time recently.

I swear I'm going to sellotape Evie's socks onto her feet in a bit...

OP posts:
mawbroon · 10/03/2006 10:44

Yokefleet - I got mine just in the local chemist, but I'm sure that Boots probably stock them. I know about that feeling of isolation. I was stuck in our small village (not the best area and I don't really know anyone either) for a month without a car. DH was at work all day and it was raining for a lot of the month which curtailed the trips out. It's hard, but you will appreciate the company/trips out much more once they return. Hang on in there.

Elf - Johnny's still in sleepsuits so don't have first hand remedy for the sock problem, but my SIL used to have her DD in tights which did away with it in one fell swoop!!

Elf1981 · 10/03/2006 10:50

Put tights on Evie and she ends up looking like Nora Batty as she kicks her legs around and pulls at the bottom!!

OP posts:
mawbroon · 10/03/2006 11:15

Have you tried fastening her vest over the tights? LOL reminds me of when I was little wearing two pairs of knickers with tights. One underneath and one over the top of the tights to keep them up!!

JustBonnie · 10/03/2006 11:41

Yokefleet, really hope you have so well deserved good luck soon, I know that feeling when you just want to cry when it seems nothing you can do soothes them. I had an episode with ruby last week where she screamed for ages. Haven't a clue why. I was washing my hair at the time and put a towel on my head. She took one look at that and screamed even harder! No matter what I did it didn't help. She ended up falling asleep where she'd worn herself out Sad

Finally went to the clinic yesterday to get her weighed properly. Our baby clinic is on once a week from 1.30 - 3.00pm. DD1 was at preschool so I had a chance to pop down there with just ruby. It gets so packed so I thought I'd get there at 1.15 but there were already 5 babies in front of ruby so waited ages. Luckily she slept until it was our turn so was nice and happy for the hv. She weighs 18lb 10ozs and is just 5 mths old.

She has dropped a bit on the curve she was on so hv told me not to worry even though she's on the large size.

Is anyone elses baby on here anywhere near as heavy as that? Hv also said when ruby drops the night bottle she will even out and when she gets a bit more active.

Raine71 · 10/03/2006 14:27

Hi everyone, Im new to this site and was wondering if I could join you. I had my little boy, Finlay, in October last year, and I thought it would be nice to chat to people at the same stage as me Smile. Got to try and get the hang of this site too, lol.

mawbroon · 10/03/2006 14:54

Hi Raine. Of course you can join! Welcome and congratulations on your little boy. What date in October was he born? Mine was born on 21st October so I have to always remember that he's up to three weeks younger than some of the babies on this thread.

Where are you based?

MBSmile

YOKEFLEET · 10/03/2006 15:00

Hi Raine - Welcome and I'm not usually this miserable!!! my ds Thomas was born on the 3rd when was Finlay born?

Elf1981 · 10/03/2006 16:26

JB - Evie was 14lbs 10oz when I last took her, it was about two weeks ago now. Going to take her this Thursday I think as after that I'm back at work and wont be able to take her to the clinic :( She gains about 1 pound per every four weeks, following just under the 50% line. What was Ruby when she was born?

Hello all, managed to get out in the sunshine for a while this afternoon and am feeling more like me! all I need now is a nice hot shower when dh gets home bout 7.15 and I will almost be human again!! lol Grin dh has offered to do the feeds through the night tonight to help me catch up on some sleep (he usually just does Saturday night for me) he is a sweetheart.
justbonnie ds was weighed at 17w (6w ago) and he was 16lb+

Elf1981 · 10/03/2006 16:32

Bit of a nightmare today, took my car in for it's MOT, told to call back in three hours to see if done. I put Evie in the pram and got on the bus to town. She fell asleep on the bus (she looked knackered, well past her usual nap time) and ended up sleeping for about 20 mins. (Usually she has a 2hour nap around that time!). She was fussy in the pram, I took her and fed her (twice) and changed her bum. Then I went to one of the cafe's to sit and have a drink (I was gagging for a drink but also in desperate need for a pee, there's no toilets you can go in and take the pram too, nightmare!). I brought a sprite and a muffin, Evie was howling in the pram and I was getting dirty looks from the customers, sort of "how dare you interrupt us when we're spending our disposable cash on ourselves?" kind of look. So I sat Evie on my knee while I tried to drink my drink and eat my muffin. Cue her lurching forward, mouth opened, heading towards my plate, trying to get a moutful of muffin. Hmm! So I tried to have a drink, and she grabs forward, pulls the glass towards her, trying to tip it so she can have a bit! She ended up licking the glass!!
Put her in the pram so we could go collect the car, she was happy as larry til the bus started up and she started screaming (tired) so I put her on my knee because all I could hear were these gossipy ladies going on about how Evie was screaming and "sounds like a young en from that cry, bless her". Put her on my knee and lo and behold she shuts up and is smiling away at everybody! Gets off the bus to go get the car, cue more screams. Think I'm going to have to start thinking about putting her in the pushchair mode, as she's quite happy when she can look at things.
Sorry for the long post, got to get it all out now before she wakes up!!!

JustBonnie · 10/03/2006 19:43

hi elf, ruby was 7lb13oz at birth so an average sized baby for me.

I used to hate getting on buses with dd1 as everyone used to stare when she cried and there's no escape. I'm so glad I passed my driving test especially now I've got two. When ruby's screaming in the car at least it's only me that can hear her.

Hi Raine and welcome to the October board. It's really invaluable chatting to others with babies at the same stage. It's reassuring when you realise what your little one's doing is perfectly normal Smile

RedTartanLass · 10/03/2006 20:18

Hi Raine My dd was born on 21 October and has 4 teeth (I know, I know, I've mentioned it a million times already, but I just have to mention it!)

Justbonnie I'm going to have to get dd weighed soon Blushbuy I can tell you that ds2 was 17lb at that age. By the time he was 12moonths he was a massive wee budda, but in the next 12months he only put on 4lb!! So it all evens out eventually!!!

MB pml at knickers on top of tights, my mum did that to me as well Grin

elf hope your weekend gets better

Raine71 · 10/03/2006 22:35

Hi, Thanks for letting me join in, I think Ive got a bit of catching up to do and will try my hardest to remember all your names, lol.
Finlay was born on 18th Oct, two days late, and weighed in at 8lb 3oz. I last had him weighed at about 18 weeks and he was 18lb 14oz - yep he's aporker but v cute with it Smile .

mawbroon · 11/03/2006 08:52

Morning all. Following on from the discussion about dirty nappies last week, Johnny does one dirty nappy a day. It used to be around lunchtime then for a few days it was afternoon, then just after Daddy got home from work Grin but now it is during the night. After one night lying in a dirty nappy (he didn't cry - how was I supposed to know?) he got dreadful nappy rash. So last night, at the slightest whimper, I was in there checking which of course wakes him up more. I last checked at 11pm and then he didn't cry until 5.30am. When I looked at his nappy, it was a horror, but it wasn't fresh so he had been lying in it for a while. His poor little bottom looks so sore. Today is pouring with rain so I don't think we are going anywhere so I'll let him kick about for as long as possible with a bare bum. Hopefully his poo time will gradually move to the morning.
We've had a couple of days of "snuzzling" now. "Snuzzling" is a word I made up for when we go to bed in the afternoon (I know - a complete luxury for a first time mum) and we snooze/snuggle/guzzle. I am trying hard not to worry about his lack of weight gain, but I am feeding him at every opportunity and any excuse for an afternoon in bed. He is 20 weeks, 13lbs 4oz and 64cms long. He has one roll of fat on his legs, but nowhere else and I can feel his wee skinny ribs, but he is perfectly happy.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
MBSmile

Elf1981 · 11/03/2006 09:09

MB - what is Johnny's weight now? Sometimes when Evie and I are in bed, you can see her ribs quite badly. She's got (my) chubby legs but (DH's) no belly.

OP posts:
mawbroon · 11/03/2006 10:34

He's 13lbs 4oz Elf.

JustBonnie · 11/03/2006 10:36

Raine, are you having problems finding clothes for Finlay? Poor Ruby ends up in clothes that fit round the waist but the legs/sleeves are always too long. I end up rolling everything up. She's wearing 9-12 month stuff at the moment.
