Have gone with LMFs title suggestion :)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OiMissus · 16/02/2012 22:08

Hi figgy, I haven't had mine yet but I hear they vary massively - some drs are in-depth, others barely ask how you feel. I'm planning to prepare the questions I have (and write them down so I don't forget).
LO had his first jabs today. Mummy's brave little soldier went bright red and cried, but he soon settled. He's been fine since - asleep since 8!!! (a record!) probably because DH isn't here to stimulate him.
I've done a mountain of ironing. I hate ironing.

aethelfleda · 16/02/2012 22:37

Postnatal check should cover a) how's it going for you? (including quick ask about your mood, check baby feeding is going OK, any questions that are bugging you) b) has your bleeding stopped. C) check your womb is well down (and check stitches/scar optional) d) reminder for smear if due,e) contraception/family planning chat. That's the basic deal for you and then they should check baby too.

Coolhand · 16/02/2012 23:10

I'm jealous of all the meet ups! Being in Northern Ireland, I'm guessing I'm on my own - still at least I have the thread.

Good to know my lo isn't the only one who has struggled with mucus from day one. They suggested it was because he was c section and it would clear (which made sense) - when it didn't they just said, well it should have cleared by now! He's now developed a cold as well so that may have something to do with it. He thrashes loads in his sleep - sometimes he settles himself again but sometimes it wakens him. It's frustrating because I feel he is capable of going longer through the night - wasn't sure if the thrashing was a)silent reflux b)mucus c)teething - as he has been really unsettled and drooling loads, chewing on everything in sight/fist permanently in mouth - if only they could talk and tell you. Anyway....should be thankful he's much more settled than he was!

Kate hope you have better night tonight.

Honey enjoy the boiler!

YBR def ask for debrief - I think you'll always regret it if you don't - the GP's advice seems quite insensitive to me.

Hope all the ill DDs and DSs are on the mend soon.

Coolhand · 16/02/2012 23:17

So it's official - my brain no longer has the capacity to retain any information. Boiler comment should have been for Kateand de-brief comment should have been for BJR. Blush

I ask for tolerance as I will undoubtedly do this again in the future!

LittleMissFlustered · 16/02/2012 23:52

I got a new boiler last year, with radiators. It's still quite novel to have a warm house:o

It can't be 4 already

Mmmmcheese · 17/02/2012 04:18

Grrrr she's still feeding at 12,2,4 and grizzling in between. I am fed up :(

OP posts:
mopsytop · 17/02/2012 04:21

LMF, I guess it cd be a mild form of colic? It's usual 6-9ish butbits nor constant screeching (thank goodness!) but she'll cry/screech for a while, I'll settle her (this can take a while), she'll sleep for five minutes or sometimes ten maybe, then wakes up crying again. Varies between proper screeching/howling and grizzling. Then shortly after nine she will zonk. I guess lots of babies are unsettled in the evening but I thought colic was full on screaming for hours? V grateful she doesn't do that!

After a weird night last night, back on schedule tonight w 11:30pm and 4am feeds. So maybe she's getting back into her routine :)

Hope you're all having reasonable nights!

Oh, on the boiler front, ours was broken - not the heating only the hot water - for FOUR years!!! Got it fixed last year, was SO happy! No more boiling the kettle to wash up and could take a bath (we've an electric shower so it wasn't urgent to fix, hence the delay).

LittleMissFlustered · 17/02/2012 05:05

I have been up with the octopus since two. I have mentally called him every name under the sun. Ow!

mopsy it could be mild colic, my eldest was a 5-10 scream/grizzler. We found that the best things that helped her were colic drops, massage, an odd balanced on the forearm hold and being swung. Might be worth trying some of the colic holds and maybe some baby massage?

Boilers are ace. I've had hot water for ever, but had had no heating for so many years prior to the instal of the system last year. This house had no central heating (just a gas fire in the living room) and our previous house's system was broken for the last four/five years we were there, so we're talking six years at least >_

Sequin1 · 17/02/2012 07:16

Morning.

DD - antibiotics... Check
Now DS antibiotics.. Check

Had an okish night Erin slept from
7-1, then had bottle took about an hour to settle and have a poo (hate poos in night) then slept til 6.30. Woke up with a temperature of 38.4 probably as its a while since last meds. Best thing I bought through all this was one of those digital thermometers you put in the ear, not cheap but SO much easier... And a bit addictiveGrin

Mopsy, have you tried white noise to help settle/calm, it works for E and for DS when he was a baby

OiMissus · 17/02/2012 08:05

Morning all, just after I posted last night to say LO had survived the jabs and was settled, he woke up screaming.for the next hour he scream-fed. It was horrid.I thought it was going to last forever but I gave him a tiny drop of infant calpol and eventually he went to sleep again and we've had a good night since. (but i kept him on the bed with me - him in a vest open at the bottom as he was very warm and a cellular blanket, me with the duvet in a diamond shape. :) He woke at 2:45, and then at 7:15am. (hang in there mmmm, up until 3 nights ago we had the same 2-3 feeds a night non-routine. I'm praying to bob that this one feed routine sticks or develops to no night feeds.)

EasilyBored · 17/02/2012 08:06

LMF sorry you've had a rough night, hope you can get a nap today!

sequin glad erin slept, hope everyone is feeling better soon.

mmm is she eating a lot during the day? Somethimes Squeaker will happily only eat 3 times during the day and then he snacks ALL night. Is infuriating!

We were a bit late with the bedtime routine last night, so he went down at 10, woke at 2 for food, went back down and then woke at 5 for food. After that he was awake so dh took him downstairs for an hour. He's eating again now, then we're getting ready to go out.

Does anyone else find they spend way more time working out what their LO will wear than what you will wear yourself these days?!

mopsytop · 17/02/2012 08:09

Hi all! Yes, tried White noise, sometimes it helps a bit, sometimes not. Laying her across my knees face down, jiggling them and stroking her back often helps. Must go to a baby massage class, so far she hasn't seemed too impressed with my feeble attempts.

EasilyBored · 17/02/2012 08:18

mopsy a friend of mine suggested laying them on a blanket on top of the washing machine or dryer. Not tried it myself but might be worth a go?

LittleMissFlustered · 17/02/2012 08:32

If the on the tummy and back run is soothin I second the massage idea. Mostchildren's centres run sessions:)

LittleMissFlustered · 17/02/2012 08:33

Rub and soothing. On a bus, so trying to keep the older two in sight and type >_

OiMissus · 17/02/2012 08:41

easily my LO is always impeccably turned out, I, on the other hand, can often be found in yesterday's clothes sporting yesterday's sick. Hmm

EasilyBored · 17/02/2012 08:47

Yep, Squeaker was sick on dhs work shirt on wed morning, he just wiped it with a baby wipe. Oh how times have changed.

msbuggywinkle · 17/02/2012 08:51

pretty good baby massage video for mopsy my friend's 4DC have all been colicky and she swears by baby massage!

Any exciting plans for the weekend? None here! Planning a chilled weekend as we have had a few really busy ones lately. Perhaps a film afternoon tomorrow I think. It is pouring down today so I think we will have an arty day at home.

When we had DD1 our boiler broke on the day before she was born, we had a prem newborn at home (only in for a week) and no hot water, it was a bloody nightmare...I was sterilising syringes by boiling them on the hob, made the whole express-feed-top up nonsense take even sodding longer.

BJR I did the birth reflections thing when pregnant with DD2 and I do wish I had done it sooner as it laid a lot of things to rest for me (as in I can now talk about DD1's birth without crying!). Birth absolutely is important for the Mum, saying that it doesn't matter as long as the baby is fine ignores how much of an impact birth can have on women and as said before, does seem misogynistic.

msbuggywinkle · 17/02/2012 08:52

Forgot...pic of Miri grinning at DD1 on profile!

HoneyLovesCake · 17/02/2012 09:25

Well, I'm up washed, dressed, eaten breakfast & wondering if it's too early for a Brew & a slice of lemon drizzle Hmm DS is still in bed. He seems to be going longer in between feeds but then nursing for ages. Can't decide if I prefer this to his usual grazing or not, my boobs are getting quite swollen in between. Like it or not I suppose it's up to him & I'll adjust.

Had an early morning text from my bf to say her twins were born at 3:20am & 3:47am this morning, both just under 6lbs :) I am a wee bit jealous of that newborn smell. Can't wait to have another!!!

HoneyLovesCake · 17/02/2012 09:26

cute pic msb baby smiles make my heart melt!

Kri5ty · 17/02/2012 09:30
