LittleMissFlustered · 16/02/2012 07:03

I need a Brew

Sequin1 · 16/02/2012 08:50

Morning

Well thank you for the warm welcomeSmile

I was hoping to post sooner but no long after making my intro my DD who woke up unsettled started to deteriorate with a high temperature, slight mottling and erratic breathing and to cut a long story short we were at A&E until midnight and my poorly baby has tonsillitis Sad. We are now on calpol and ibuprofen and antibiotics.

Need to keep monitoring and we have open access for 48 hours if we are worried.

Hope to post on a more lighter note a bit
Later. Have a good day everyone Grin

EasilyBored · 16/02/2012 09:10

Morning everyone! I'm feeling quite bright and shiny today. Gave up on the basket and let Squeaker sleep with me, even managed to feed him whilst laid down. He was a bit grumpy at the start of the night, I suspect over tired at grandparents poking him all evening, and hubby took him for a couple of hours. Currently letting him have a lie in while I have cuddles and playtime in bed with a smiley baby. What a difference a day makes, eh?

sequin sorry to hear about the hospital trip, hope she feels better soon!

Passes flustered an extra big Brew as well as some of the THREE cakes my inlaws brought with them.

We have the angelcare too. That bit of peace of mind is great, and the nightlight is good - enough to see but not really wake them up.

HoneyLovesCake · 16/02/2012 09:36

sequin how awful :( Hope DD feels better soon.

I'm having a weird morning DS is still asleep Shock

He cried himself to sleep last night as I had a particularly forceful letdown for some reason so his last feed was about 930. He usually sleeps on his side but I had a bit of a panic at 4am when I woke to find him sleeping on his front, not moving & making no noise at all...he's been grunty & full of mucus (which makes him thrash about in his sleep) since week 1 so this totally freaked me out. Funny now but at the time I was so scared! Anyway, I put him on his side to feed him lying down & he was obviously very hungry but he hadn't given any cues at all. Tried to get him to sleep on his side, then his back & he sounded like he was choking so I gave in & put him back on his front...he instantly settled & fell into a deep sleep & hasn't woken since I tried to offer him a seriously swollen & leaky boob an hour ago but he was not interested. I'm going to go wake him now though.

My life will be soooo much easier when this mucus finally clears :)

LittleMissFlustered · 16/02/2012 10:11

sequin Hope your wee one improves soon:)

NorthernChinchilla · 16/02/2012 10:14

Hey figgy, I'd go up a teat size definitely- I hadn't realised but they do seem to need it.

My LO is still a snot monster at night- don't know if yours are just then or all day Oi HLC? Last night was again pants- he got about 3 hours in the first stretch, but then had an hour and a half of thrashing, windmilling and grunting- repeat to fade all night, only with an hour's sleep each time.
We had a lie-in

I'm sure it's just really bad because we're out of routine, but I look longingly at those babies in China who are swaddled completely.

Here LMF- I'm sending you a Brew of our artisan, home ground and brewed ridiculously strong coffee. I may be a plain Northern lass but I get poncey about coffee and wine. It's rocket fuel, via a special shop in Lancaster.
Our midwives and HVs scheduled as many appointments as possible here so they could have it...
Hope you perk up.

That's such bad news sequin, your poor LO- it's rotten to have as an adult, never mind a baby.

Today's fun- smear test, yaaaaaay!

luckysevens · 16/02/2012 10:18

sequin hope she's better soon. There's so much going around at the moment, after Eva having Bronchiolitis a couple of weeks ago my neighbours son now has it.

No improvement here

OiMissus · 16/02/2012 10:29

My LO is snotty and so after a while on the boob starts to thrash about and get very upset. But he's sleeping very well, and yesterday and last night he slept loads (he has periods of thrashing about but settles himself).
He fed last night at 21:30, 02:30 and 06:00 and then at 9:30 this morning. He's just fallen asleep again.
Sympathies to sequin, hope your LO is soon better.

Btw a few of us Northern types are meeting at the Trafford Centre near Manchester tomorrow if anyone else wants to join us. Smile Coffee and cake is on the agenda. Grin

KateM77 · 16/02/2012 10:30

sequin so sorry to hear about your LO. Get well soon!

Oi How was your night after all the sleep yesterday?

My night was pretty rubbish. DS was so dopey after the jabs he kept feeding for a few mins, dropping off to sleep until he was put down and then crying inconsolably. This went on all evening until 9.45pm when we then got some sleep, but he then woke at 12.45, 2.15, 4.15 and 8, and for those first 3 feeds we had the same routine of being dopey and then crying when put down in cot. The last stretch would have been a nice lie-in if DD hadn't woken at 6.45. She seems to be finally on the mend, although there's been a fair amount of grizzling and tantrums already again today. I still feel rubbish with my cold and now DH is getting it too. I'll take one of those coffees if there's one going spare Northern?

On the plus side, the plumber has just arrived to fit the new boiler Grin

KateM77 · 16/02/2012 10:32

Oi you answered my question before I'd even asked it Wink

OiMissus · 16/02/2012 10:33

Are, not is. Imbecile.
Parentese... Where do you stand on this?
I can't help it, when I speak in a higher pitch in a silly tone, he smiles. However, I also find myself losing my grasp of English, and my DH keeps saying "fink" and "free" rather than think and three -something we both hate with a passion!

msbuggywinkle · 16/02/2012 10:56

Morning!

So, I have taken to napping with Miri while DP gets the big girls to sleep, then he wakes me up for a chat and TV. Last night he offered me chocolate when he woke me up, which I accepted, then went to sleep. Woke up at 2am with me, Miri and DD2 coated in chocolate...needing a sodding shower which the two DDs screamed through!

kate the feeling of excitement at new boilers! I was so thrilled when we got ours done last year, then I felt old Grin

sequin oh no! poor baby, get better soon.

oi I try not to do it in public, as the sound of it irritates the hell out of me. However, it amuses Miri!

BJR · 16/02/2012 11:10

Hi all,
So after my initial couple of posts i've been without internet for a week so it probably looked like a delurked and then disappeared again!

Have been to visit parents with DS for a week and he was an absolute star in the car for both journeys slept for 2 hours, woke as a pulled into services and then fell asleep once we were back in the car for the rest of the journey. Although he has now had a week of being totally spoiled by my parents who were constanly picking him up so is I think hes wondering whats happening now its just me all day again!

Glad to see lots of others are taking the plunge and delurking too, I wonder how many people are actually following this thread?!

DarcieandSkysmum · 16/02/2012 11:18

Hey Ladies,

Sorry not been around been rather hectic around here being half term. Will catch up tonight as DP is working late.

Sequin1 · 16/02/2012 11:44

Thanks everyone, she has just fallen asleep on me. She still has a temp which goes down after painkillers but then is back up again in time for next dose. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

Kate - yes we has boiler excitement here 2 weeks ago, I went touching all the radiators and getting so excited about how much hotter they were - must get out more Smile

Is anyone else in the south east, seems to be a good Manchester following Smile

HoneyLovesCake · 16/02/2012 11:45

Oi I've taken to singing (tunelessly) about my day to DS's amusement...classics include Mummy's hanging up the washing & Mummy's in the bath splish splash splosh! Oh dear :) Won't be doing it in public I hope!

BJR · 16/02/2012 12:02

I'm in south east also Sequin and i'm pretty sure i remember someone mentioning being near bluewater at one point so there must be at least one other person nearby!

Figgygal · 16/02/2012 12:08

BJR I had same problem after a week at home in Scotland with my mum practically strapping him to her for a week LO was clingy and grumpy in his chair/swing for about a week afterwards.

Sorry to hear so many unhappy/unwell babies as the thread title says "this too shall pass" though it's hard sometimes to remember that I find when he's constantly guzzling.

LO is 8 wks today can't believe it's going so fast he doesn't look like a baby anymore but a mini man took him shopping this morning and when the inevitable smiley old ladies asked how old he was could tell they were surprised since he's a 13lb chunk. He's eating so much though am always on bottle duty or carrying him round which means I don't eat another 3lbs down this week only 9 more to go to pre preg weight then want another 7lbs off after that.

NorthernChinchilla · 16/02/2012 12:28

< hands massive Brew to Kate > Enjoy!

My understanding of the latest research around parentese Oi is that it's encouraged, and is thought to be beneficial for language development. My Mum has worked in this sort of area for years, and did her last Master's in Applied Linguistics (she likes studying for degrees) so is fairly up on the topic.

Still makes one sound like a moron though, and as MsB says, you find yourself doing it in public and want to die! My OH always said he'd never do it, and yet is dribbling nonsense away at DS like nobodies' business...

Hope you got the chocolate out of everything MsB!

It's great with the long journeys isn't it BJR, they do just sleep all the way; only thing is it's completely buggered our routine, such as it is, by LO sleeping for six hours solid in the middle of the day...

I'm in the SE and near Bluewater, so could do a meet up Smile

kiteflying · 16/02/2012 12:33

Hi all - [waves] - have been away from this thread for a while and missed welcoming the new mums here...welcome to you.
News from this side of the world is all good. When I was last on here I thought my Lulu was developing colic as her sister had done, but no, she has surprised us all by only really giving out when she has bad wind or is overtired. I can't tell you what a relief it is. Once was enough with colic and DD1 had reflux as well so her first six months were really not fun mummying. I just reread the mumsnet page on colic and reflux and it brought it all back to me {shudder}.
Even better, this little breastfed baby actually sleeps all night! Yes, she wakes up to feed but rolls over and straight back to sleep. OMG!!
God is evidently trying to make amends for those first hellish weeks in hospital.
Hope you are all enjoying your little ones, and sorry to hear about sequins' little one being ill with tonsillitiis. Horrid - that rush to AandE is just so awful isn't it.
Lulu is also almost out of her basket - not that she spends much time in it - so I am in a dilemma. I had wanted her to nap in her own nursery during the day and be primed to move there permanently when she was about four months old. However, she is not much for day napping at all and does almost all her sleeping at night - which means she has spent next to no time "warming" to her cot. She is way too young to be in a separate room now at only eight weeks, but I am rather fond of her nursery as set up, and don't really want a cot back in our room again. Grrr.
Has anyone else had problems with older children just being too close, too interested in baby? Am I the only one that grew up with a mum that taught me that babies are vulnerable and you need to have clean hands etc etc, and can't just stick your hands into their prams, especially if it is someone else's bubs? Friends seem to assume that I am "oddly" protective because Lulu was ill after too many visitors when she was newborn, but I have always thought toddler/preschoolers were taught to be careful of babies and I certainly taught mine when she was a toddler not to touch other people's babies.

HoneyLovesCake · 16/02/2012 12:39

Northern Rocco's a real snot monster at night but less snuffly during the day, possibly because he's upright more often? Sneezes loads though & occasionally coughs so hard he's sick :( I'm hoping it'll pass soon as we've had over 9 weeks of this & I know it could be worse but it's so annoying for him.

Meeting tyel today...first bus trip with DS. Hmm Should be fun but I wish some of you actually lived down here; don't suppose we have any West Cornwall lurkers? [hopeful emoticon] I'm quite jealous of you Northern mum's. We're supposed to be visiting friends in Sheffield in the spring...I wonder if DP would agree to a minor detour to the Trafford Centre! Probably not

MissRee · 16/02/2012 12:56

I'm near bluewater, woukd love a meet up!

Sorry to post and run but Freya is wailing!!

mopsytop · 16/02/2012 13:10

Hi all!! Just been mashing spuds-anyone else hate washing up potato pots? It sticks everywhere ugh. Hate it. Love mash though! Making fish pie but having to do it in stages with grumpypants here demanding attention and feeds! Haven't managed to get a coffee into me yet and really want one but meetingca friend for a walk in the park so hopefully we can stop at the cafe there! Typically Qaeda beautiful sunny morning but has now clouded over and looks like rain!

Sorry to hear of more sick babas. This one is going to nursery two days a week from early April (she'll be 3.5 months) and I'm sure will be sick all the time :( not looking fwd to leaving her at alll. I know I'll have major nerves and attacks of the guilt!

Kitty5824 · 16/02/2012 13:11

oi, benny can I come tomorrow? I know I won't be up here much longer but would be nice to meet you/your little ones!

Honey I am currently trying to plan a family holiday to cornwall in June, so maybe we can have a mini meet up?

I'm knackered, with a banging head, but wonder how great DH is feeling having listenend to DS crying and me swearing all night, and then driving down to Northampton for his job interviews.

Hugs to everyone with poorly babies.

mopsytop · 16/02/2012 13:12

'was a' not 'qaeda' bloody autocorrect.
