Our third thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

as for weaning (i) DS is only just 4 months and (ii) has an incredibly strong thrust reflex.

PenguinArmy · 12/02/2012 11:53

I have read the whole thread but forgotten most of it Blush Only thing I remember is engel I think you are right, if you are anxious it will effect things, I went back at 4 months, wasn't worried about supply, was a little strict on how much DD was allowed and how she was to be fed and didn't have a issue with supply.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/02/2012 15:43

Re flat head. When I had ds2 I was told or was becoming common due to amount of time in Car seats as they can't move head to side like then can laying flat. Also Carseat is quite hard compared to or mattress or pram. Also was told too much time in Carseat for babies wasn't good as they are slumped over and can't affect breathing. This is why we decided against Carseat adapters for our buggy and use pram mode or sling when out. Not scaremongering, just what I was told. Surely if it was down to sleeping on backs lots of babies from our generation too would have it as its not something new whereas carseats and travel systems are.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/02/2012 15:45

Jnice ds1 has had scarlet fever twice. Really horrible and ended up in hospital. Hope your dc all better soon.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/02/2012 15:51

Lovely update from cup on Bea's thread

Jnice · 12/02/2012 17:26

mama whatever it is it's responding to the ABs Smile

My poor ODS though, when he gets strep throat he can't stop vomiting and gets severely dehydrated and can't keep the drugs down, so I have to out a gravol suppository up his bum. Poor kid Sad

MrsHende · 12/02/2012 18:55

Sorry to hear about all the sick babies - jnice, hope things look up soon.

Lovely update from cup! Their smiles make your heart melt don't they!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

Like that seat Edward, it looks like it's got lots of fun stuff on it. We got bumbo today, he only had a little go on it as was really grumpy this afternoon, so will see how we get on with it tomorrow. Got the tray that fits onto it too, so hopefully when we start weaning in 6 weeks or so it will help. I am still to get the high chair, which one did you get? I also plan to do the combination weaning, bits of food for him to try and eat himself and some purees too. Have subscribed back to Abel and Cole from the end of March so will be getting organic fruit and veg baby and toddler box for L's purees :).
Oh Penguin don't tell me I've got months to go with this sleep issue, I'm already struggling :(! Btw, hope you feel better with your sickness bug!
Does anyone's baby like sleeping on their tummy's? Because of L's reflux he seems to like it better on his tummy, but I am so paranoid although we have a monitor with the camera and all that. He is also so windy at night and sleeping on his stomach seems to settle it, as soon as I turn him on his back he starts bringing his knees up and waking up?

PenguinArmy · 12/02/2012 20:28

It might not be the same, it might click by 6 months for you. I didn't find it so bad with DD as we just got a routine and stuck to it... ish, it kinda changed on a fortnightly basis. With DS I feel more lost as I don't have the time to exclusively deal with him and the time I have differs.

TallyBear · 12/02/2012 22:47

Cheshire Baby Zone is a weekly play time at my local Children's Centre. It's for babies up to 12 months and is themed each week. They've also got a sensory room there which is great (and free to use!).

Sorry to hear about all the sick households. We're just getting over colds here.

I'm looking at three different types of pillow for flat heads - I'm tempted to order all three, but that might be a bit over the top! The bizarre thing is that he sleeps on both sides but only one is flat.

Seb has started talking himself to sleep at night - so sweet!! He's really discovered his voice and loves the sound of it! He just babbles to himself until he falls asleep. Grin

Re: weaning, my mum had read that children who were weaned though blw rather than puree were less likely to be overweight and fussy eaters when they are older. I think I'm going to do a bit of both but maybe mostly blw. Still a while off for us though....

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/02/2012 22:54

bub my highchair is from ikea, it's linked a page or 2 back think it's called spoling or something similar?

golemmings · 12/02/2012 23:23

Bub we have sleep issues here too. 3 nights of sleeping lin the cit 7-11ses, then in my arms and finally in the bouncy chair from 4am. Tonight the pattern has changed and he only fell asleep 10 mins ago (just after 11) but has gone down in his cit. We've moved the cit out since he seemed to sleep five until we went to bed. I'm now terrified and want to go and check on him to check he's still breathing.

We've also just gone up a nappy size. The old ones were only lasting 5 hours over night, despite being a 12hr nappy so Alex is now in size 4s. how ridiculous is that. Size 4 at 4 months. Until we potty trained her last month, dd was only in 4+ and she's almost 2 1/2!

CheshireDing · 13/02/2012 02:31

Terrible sleep here for the last few nights Bub. Tonight P is in her cot in the nursery for the first time, so far she has managed 3 hours - which is a vast improvment on the every hour we had started to have again recently!

P is definitely getting interested in food as she fallows your food or drink so blatantly. She sits at the dining table with us (as suggested in the book I am reading) which is supposed to help get her interested. We are going to try blw and I saw the high chair I wanted was due to finish at 2.30pm yesterday on ebay, then I forgot. It went for £83, RRP is £180 :(

The last 2 weeks because we have been moving I have been going along the lines of P having to entertain herself and as suggested by some of you she needs to be able to do this anyway, so have subscribed to the school of "look how exciting it is watching things go in boxes" Grin. Well the house is mostly done and we need to get on and do some business stuff so I can stay at home and have babies Grin so tomorrow our new schedule is baby entertaining in the mornings and business in the afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Oh and I bought a potty, mad I know Grin

BB3 · 13/02/2012 07:33

Morning, Cheshire what high chair is it? Not the bloom one by any chance?

Fuzzzy hope you give s lots of snuggles on your return x

Bubalie · 13/02/2012 09:49

Morning all, hope everyone had a good night's sleep? L spent ALL night in my bed!! He was asleep most of it but I wasn't!! DH went to spare bedroom around 3am as L was spread across the bed with me and DH squashed on one side :)!! Cheshire so you moved the baby into her own nursery? Was it the first night last night then? I just don't think it would work if I moved L now considering his sleep issues. Has anyone else made a successful transfer yet?
Tally - L has also started talking to himself and when we have a feed around 1-2am I put him back in his cot and he chats away while we can't sleep from all the uuuhhhs and aaahs :).
The highchair I want is called Noodle or something, will try and get the link, I like how it looks and also it looks pretty slimline for our little kitchen and dining table!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/02/2012 10:15

bub. That looks really similar to the one I had for C and it was a PitA to clean as had loads of grooves for food to get stuck in. I'd have a look at it in person as you'd be surprised how much mess they make with food and the places it gets to.
I've gone for a much simpler design this time.
here's mine

PunkyBubba · 13/02/2012 12:33

tally re flat head. Have you looked at position of changing mat,car seat, play mat to see if there is something causing the flat head only on one side?

PunkyBubba · 13/02/2012 12:35

lemming c has been in size 4 since he was 3.5 months. Size 3 just wasnt doing the job and looked small to me even tho he wasnt over the weight limit for it!

PunkyBubba · 13/02/2012 12:40

sorry for multiple msgs, posting on phone

bub our transition to nursery at nights one wk ago wasnt bad. Felt it necessary as dp is not quiet at the best of times so we were disturbing c.

PunkyBubba · 13/02/2012 12:46

he was unsettled for a few days, but now only wakes once a night, when before it would be at least twice! I think thats because i would take him out of his cot when he made noise in our room so dp could sleep, where as

PunkyBubba · 13/02/2012 12:49

i can now leave him for a bit to self settle now so he started sleeping through times he used to wake through habit as opposed to real hunger

PenguinArmy · 13/02/2012 13:08

DD and DS are both in size 4. He could possibly be in size 3's but as they don't wear them often and they do the job it works fine for us.

we have the ikea antilop with cushion insert.

MamaMaiasaura · 13/02/2012 13:31

Re highchairs. I have the wooden seat that attaches to normal chair except we got new dining set with high backs so instead have got the spoiling ikea chair.

CheshireDing · 13/02/2012 16:25

It?s the Baby Bjorn Appetite Highchair BB3. It has good reviews on Mumsnet and is all plastic, there is no padding or harness to hold the baby in so it is easy clean. I think it?s the tray that seems to hold them in.

She started in her own room last night Bub but I slept in the nursery too, as otherwise I thought I would be padding back and forth across the landing. As she only woke twice though if she carries on like that I might be able to go back in my own room. She has a monitor pad under her mattress so that part of it does not worry me, it?s just the going back and forth. She slept better than she has done for a good few nights though, could just be luck.

I am like Punky though in that before I picked her up at the slightest sound, now I am trying to give about 3 minutes of whittering before I pick her up and usually she has gone quiet before this time.

God is anyone elses baby RIDICULOUSLY noisey? P has become such a yeller recently, everything is getting shouted at!

BB3 · 13/02/2012 17:28

Cheshire - Ayse just shouts at you, constantly shouts gabble at you whilst staring you in the face!!! Edie just laughs at you!
