OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BB3 · 11/02/2012 10:35

All my children have pungent rear ends! I can't believe what comes out the girls! So unladylike!!!

sassy34264 · 11/02/2012 10:42

bb3 isobel is postively rose smelling compared to jacob. you cant smell her until you're up close. i kid you not, you can smell jacob through 3 rooms!

bit bored- can you tell? Smile
waiting for dp to get back from wrestling and visiting his sister. cant wait for him to bring back some firewood, its bloody freezing and i have the heating on 24/7.
was meant for warmer climates me.

PunkyBubba · 11/02/2012 10:45

Engel it was me who mentioned the Lilla Kuddis pillow for flat heads.. Its just a basic little pillow to take the pressure off the head so as not to make it worse. My HV did recommend having C sleep on his side during daytime naps (with rolled up towel to prop him to the side) but not at night. The first few times I did it I was so scared and kept going up to check on him every few minutes.. but generally he would move his head back to his preferred position even on his side so the pillow was the best thing for us. C is 17 weeks now, and I have noticed a big improvement in his head shape mainly due to repositioning all the time.. so on his playmat, in bouncer, carseat, etc I dont use the pillow (as they recommend for bouncer, playmat, changing mat), I just make sure now he looks to his right as I place all his toys there, which means the pressure is on the bit of his head that sticks out.. pushing it gently back.. This is basically what helmets do, though they work a lot quicker as worn 23 hrs a day!

Pebble I was the same as you with C.. Always having to rock him to sleep standing up, or bouncing, etc.. I started changing that slowly by cutting down on the motion.. until he would fall asleep in my arms with me sat in a chair in the nursery, with no motion/rocking. When I got to that point I started putting him in the cot, basically following Scheh's advice..

Have to go.. sick covered sleepy baby to sort!

sassy34264 · 11/02/2012 10:54

thanks bubba that reminded me i was suppose to post something about that.
lady on the twins oct 10 thread has a child who had to wear a helmet. his ears were completely out of alignment. she called it something beginning with h but i cant remember.
she said that its increasing cos of the laying them on their backs and cos hv's keep telling everyone that it will correct itself eventually.

PunkyBubba · 11/02/2012 11:13

Sassy Yes, thats what C has.. His ears are not aligned.. Very very upsetting every time I look at it.. but only noticeable when looking from above so generally at the moment no one else notices as everyone looks at his face..

I only noticed the flat head initially, so was comforted when HVs said it will sort itself out.. Now I know its known as Plagiocephaly (head was parallelogram shaped, but as I said, slowly improving now).. and severe cases will not simply sort themselves out as HVs say.. Not really HVs fault.. They have not been educated about it enough as its a fairly recent problem caused by the Back to Sleep campaign. I'd like to add I don't blame the campaign as alive babies with misshapen heads that can be fixed obviously is better than the possible alternative..

PunkyBubba · 11/02/2012 11:15

I just think there should be more education of parents and HVs about 'Flat Head syndrome', and to watch out for it.. as it takes long time to correct once the damage has been done :-(

Engelsmeisje · 11/02/2012 11:24

Aah, glad that I have inspired some nostalgic Disney reminiscing. My first trip to the cinema was to see The Aristocats and I remember going o see Oliver and Co for my birthday one year. DH got home last night in the middle of Aladdin and demanded I stop it so we could watch it together today as he really likes it (wonders never cease!).

pebble hope you managed to enjoy your meal Smile
tally pizza was very good (and even better that I didn?t have to share with DH Grin )

Jnice I?m so sorry that you?re having such a rubbish time of it. Sending you lots of hugs and hoping you get some sleep soon. How did the nurse appt go?

sassy I would kill DH if he?d done that! (unless he?d bought me back some kfc). We take food very seriously in our house (be4cause we?re both seriously greedy). Grin

Cheshire we always said we wouldn?t do a christening. I?m an atheist (though my mum and dad are non-practicing CofE) and DH?s family are RC though DH is not church going at all. DH made a few sounds about having M christened but I feel it?s very hypocritical since neither of us are church goers and it would be just to keep the ILs quiet. I would rather that M gets the choice later if he feels it?s something he wants. If I knew DH felt strongly about it then I would support it, but I think he only wants to keep his mum happy!

ed glad to hear DGM is doing better.

Hope you and DH are okay now scheh.

sassy M had green poo last night and this morning ? what the hell did I eat!

bubba tried out the ?side? pillow last night for the first time. Kept checking M as well during evening as was a bit paranoid. He actually still ends up sleeping almost on his back, but he just can?t put his head to the left so there?s no pressure on the flat bit of his head. Physio said it might take him a few nights to accept it. sassy M?s ears have also been affected by his flat head. Really want to avoid a helmet if I can! Like bubba said, it's not a problem that's solved overnight.

Okay, that?s me up to date! Have a great weekend everyone. Smile

sassy34264 · 11/02/2012 12:18

bubba ah! so it doesnt begin with h! its a p! but yes thats it. she showed us a pic from above too.

engel its over 4 hrs drive, so i let him off and even if i ate kfc, am not sure 2 hour old chicken would be such a treat! yuk.

i could have/should have told him not to eat anything but didnt want to ruin the surprise. oh well.

eva has had green poo a few times- not sure what causes it. makes a change from the yellowey tan poo!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/02/2012 15:37

Well dh and I are heading out to pics tonight to see the vow (I get choice as V day) and as my gran is in hospital still MIL is watching kids in my house. (she is a complete cleanfreak and not quiet about it) so I have got my stairs swept for first time in ages was feeling proud of myself so sat down for a cup of tea an can't seem to get back off the couch so stairs are spotless and everywhere else is filthy.
I have till 6pm to clean 3 floors (Inc windows and oven) get myself washed dressed make up on and make/eat dinner. I think I'm doomed o failure before I begin lol

BB3 · 11/02/2012 16:15

Ed, why not leave it and she will be so bothered she'll tidy it for you?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/02/2012 16:40

Because then im faced with weeks of lectures about how important it is to stay on top of things. (she is so bad she bleaches her driveway weekly FFS) and she once said that she won't be surprised is DS get sick because of te mess Confused it's never that bad! Love the woman to bits it's just this one issue we can't get past lol

BB3 · 11/02/2012 18:02

Bleaches her driveway Confused Shock Confused?????!?!?!!?!?!?!!!!!

CheshireDing · 11/02/2012 18:25

I second what BB3 says!!???

People who bleach their driveway WEEKLY clearly have too much time on their hands, plus what about all the poor bugs and critters who live there and just want to go about minding their own business.

Am currently holed up in the bedroom bf whilst eating my dessert as P screeched all theway through dinner and I don't much fancy getting my nip out in front of the IL's Hmm

CheshireDing · 11/02/2012 18:26

I am eating chocolate cake :)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/02/2012 18:59

Well I managed to get the house presentable (sort of) that's DH and I off out to watch a cheesy movie Grin poor C cried his yes out when I left. Sad
Has anyone else noticed toddlers getting clincher since new babies have come?

BB3 · 11/02/2012 19:10

Yes ed! And pushing boundaries more. SadAngry

Have a lovely night xxx

strawberrypenguin · 11/02/2012 19:18

punky glad C's head is improving :)

Ed hope you enjoyed you evening out, sounds great

Cheshire :o hope it was good cake

Jnice · 11/02/2012 21:23

ed I think common understanding is that a little bit if dirt and dust is good for the immune system Wink probably no chance of convincing your mil of that though! Have a lovely night out.

So today DH ended up taking older 2 ds's to urgent care and they are on ABs for strep throat. I think middle DS has scarlet fever but DH and hospital didn't agree. I swear he has all the symptoms and I'm not crazy!

Anyway, trying to keep L away as much as possible and need to go round cleaning door handles, taps and light switches ASAP!

On the plus side I managed to shush-pat L to sleep in his bassinet. He was swaddled and moaned at me but drifted off after around 5 mins. Much better than 20 minutes of jiggling!

BB3 · 12/02/2012 08:02

Jnice I had Scarlett fever as a child and it's horrible!! I couldn't walk up the stairs by the time it had spread to my feet so I hope the poor mite hasn't got it! Sending get well vibes to the house and hoping L stays clear of it all xx

FuzzzyDuck · 12/02/2012 09:55

Morning ladies! Just had read through a the posts while everyone else is still sleeping. No baby to get up for yet I'm still awake at 8am Envy. Had a great night out for my friends hen night. Rather drunk and very sore dancing feet but it was much needed!! Think we're having a sightseeing day. It's been a few years since I was in Dublin, forgot how much I love it here plus the accent just makes me melt Wink

Re the flat heads, I think it must be something that's more talked about here. Not sure about ed and mrsh but my HV spoke a lot about having baby on other positions and turning head while sleeping etc. we had a boy in my nursery years ago who had the helmet. It always looked so uncomfy for him, esp when sleeping. I guess tho if it's a case of tight muscles on one side of neck then it's a different situation. Glad to her physio and the pillow are helping.

Sounds like lots of baby's still under the weather too Sad. My mum txt to say that S had bit of unsettled night as she is still stuffed up. Iv got really sore throat, think we are sharing our bugs Grin

I also don't follow a faith so none of that my end either. My dad family are all catholic but I wasn't brought up either way so will do the same with S.

Sad about Whitney Houston eh?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/02/2012 10:56

Yeah sad about Whitney
My HV didn't say anything about changing head position during sleep but did say plenty of tummy time. I still don't do much tummy time though.
Film was ok last night my boobs are still sore though from missing a feed is that normal?

Bubalie · 12/02/2012 11:15

Morning everyone, just when I think I have time to catch up things don't go to plan so i just read the posts as quickly as I can and run off to look after L. We are having terrible issues with sleep at the moment, mostly daytime naps, but he has even started struggling getting off at night! It's just one thing after another. Anyone has any tips to share regarding getting them to sleep? He only has 3 naps a day and they last half an hour each, but it sometimes takes me an hour to rock him to sleep and then he only has half an hour! Please, please tell me I'm not on my own :(. Has anyone started getting ready for weaning, i.e. buying spoons, bowls etc. I know I've got another 6 or so weeks to go, but have read somewhere that it's good to give them a plastic spoon to play with so they get used to it?! Is anyone doing weaning early and what are you going to do BLW or puree? Hope everyone is ok, we're off out in a bit to get L one of those bumbo seats as he tried one at my friends and seems to like it (anything to keep them amuzed for 5 minutes eh?!) :)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/02/2012 11:41

bubalie I've got a few spoons and a high chair. I plan to do purée but will also give finger foods often so really a mix of both. I don't gave a bumbo but do have one like it think its called a summer seat it used to keep C occupied for hours and I used it for early weaning for a bit of extra support. I'll see if I can link
infant summer seat

The tray spins all the way round with differen toys and an empty section for feeding etc

PenguinArmy · 12/02/2012 11:51

bubalie I had that with DD, despite the fact that previously she would go to sleep by herself without crying. Some babies just can't self settle for a loooong time. She did eventually outgrow, but things only turned a corner as she turned 9/10 months. Was longer before she napped for longer but she took herself to sleep, although it still took some time and involved some crying. DD also as time went on stopped sleeping in car or buggy unless the journey was at least 3 hours.

Not sure if DS is going the same way, but he certainly can't self settle atm and cried all the way to playgroup the other day.

Doesn't help that just as I was getting over the cold I've come down with a sickness bug, DS is sleeping more and DD has had an upset stomach this morning.
