Our third thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Scheherezade · 07/02/2012 08:42

Fuzzy- I'd definitely try a bottle. Last night C had a 5oz at 10, 2, 6.30.

Engelsmeisje · 07/02/2012 08:44

Hi punky . Snap! M was also born on 15th October after a fairly short labour.

bb3 not shallow ? totally normal behaviour!

pebble I think it sounds like an amazing new swear word Grin

Good news about the wedding ed

tally we bought a really nice (and expensive!) kipling bag before M was born which basically lives in the lounge and have ended up using the free boots one when we go out because it?s smaller!

I know what you mean. I realized last Friday (when my night out was cancelled because of snow Sad ) that I?ve only been out for the evening once without M. I think that once I go back to work then things will feel a bit different. It?s one of the reasons why I?m quite looking forward to giving up bf-ing in a few months. I want my body back for myself, to be able to wear all the lovely clothes I have that are just not practical right now. Shock at Alton Towers though ? no fair!

Sorry to hear you?ve had such a rubbish night fuzzy and pebble

Engelsmeisje · 07/02/2012 08:47

didn't refresh supergirl. Sorry to hear you've had such an awful night. Is there someone who can come and help you out by taking DC for a few hours so you can get some sleep?

Scheherezade · 07/02/2012 08:48

Supergirl that sounds like comfort suckling to me, is he properly feeding? When C was younger he'd fall asleep feeding, so wouldn't get as much, and would wake earlier. If it were me, I'd either go through a couple nights being seriously strict with feed times (3hrs minimum as they should easily manage that at this age), and do all the tricks to keep him awake during the feed (blow on face, tickle chin). Or give a bottle so you know exactly how much he's getting and that there's no chance he's hungry.

Does he have any form of comforter other than breast? We have a little handmade blanket shaped like a rabbit that I wore down my top a couple times to smell like me, and when its his bed or naptime he hugs that and sucks on it.

LittlePebble · 07/02/2012 08:49

Oh Supergirl sending you a massive hug. Poor you with DH poorly as well. Do you have anyone who can come look after him in the day so you can get a couple of hrs?
Can't offer any advice as I have none for myself! Hopefully someone will be along who's done this before and can offer some help.
Do you have a nighttime routine? We do but he always has to be fed to sleep and I'm wondering if he knew how to self settle if it would mean he went back to sleep on his own? I'm thinking of trying to teach him but not sure if growth spurt is the time to start Confused

I.e. he needs to learn to have one big feed rather than snacking and napping.

FuzzzyDuck · 07/02/2012 09:10

sch that's great about the little comfort blanket thing. When S is going to sleep or when tired, she likes to hold onto your hand. It's lovely and I'd like to hold her hand till she falls asleep but it's not practical!! She has a soft rabbit with floppy ears so iv been trying to give her than at sleep time so she can hold the ears rather than my hand! Other thing is the dummy. I know she won't fall asleep without it so don't want to take it away from her but it is annoying in middle of night when she wakes and won't sleep again until she has it. I guess in a few months time, she might be able to find it herself and so not wake me!! Think I'll try a bottle when she first wakes tonight and see of it makes a difference.

Hugs to everyone else who's baby's think they can party and feed all night!!!

It's freezing here today but very sunny so think a walk later is on the cards. Fresh air can work wonders eh? Smile

strawberrypenguin · 07/02/2012 09:26

Wow lots of bad nights last night is this what I've got to look forward to?! (whispers very quietly that W is sleeping v well at the moment)

BB3 hows your bag doing now? It's so annoying when something like that happens and it always seems to be to something you really like!

Ed great news about the wedding Smile

Tally I think that's normal especially if the babies are being cranky.

super vent away, hope you get some decent sleep soon. Could your DH do a night shift once he's better to give you a proper rest?

pebble don't be Blush I wish I hadnt had to find out either. Basically it means that his skull can't expand properly as his brain grows. Without treatment this means that best case his head will be an odd shape as the bits that can expand do so and the fused bits can't, worst case it could impede brain development.

Until we see the neurosurgical team I'm not sure quite how bad the fusing is, if it's not too bad they may opt to leave it and he'll just have a bit of an odd head, if as I suspect the fusing is more complete they will operate to separate the plates so they can move as they should.

FuzzzyDuck · 07/02/2012 10:05

strawberry I think I missed your last post about W. hope you hear soon then! Was this something that was picked up with antenatal scans or at birth? Must be worrying for you, but you sound strong and mn is always great for support. God I'd be lost without it now!!! Smile

LittlePebble · 07/02/2012 10:21

Wow Strawberry poor little man, please let us know how appointment goes. X

Tally - I'm not surprised you're feeling resentful, is there another night a week when you could do something just for you? I asked my DH not to do sport after work for a few months as I just want him home as early as possible, at the moment I get no time for me as BF but if I do want to go out for a meal then my baby just comes along too. It will hopefully change and get better as DD2 gets older, and can maybe have expressed milk or formula.

In terms of all my bf problems - the consultants yesterday were fantastic. Apparently it's a milk bleb (milk blister) and I need to apply olive oil to soften it. Also, I'm expressing after feeds to make sure the blocked milk ducts don't come back. Feeling so much happier today, still in a lot of pain, but at least there is a solution now.

Engelsmeisje · 07/02/2012 10:52

Great news pink

Missed your post strawberry . all the best for your appt. We're all here to hold your (virtual) hand.

scheh we have done the same with M regarding a comforter, or sometimes even just a little muslin cloth. stops him biting and sucking his hands so much.

Am fed up of waiting to hear that my new car is ready . sold my old one yesterday and just rang the dealership - was told (jokingly) that I was being impatient. I did order it in December!

Engelsmeisje · 07/02/2012 10:52

walk sounds lke a good idea fuzzy

LittlePebble · 07/02/2012 11:17

Pink I too have a milk blister. Sorry must have missed your post on it earlier. If engorgement comes back put cabbage leaves in your bra. The olive oil works for me but sorry to say mine is still here four weeks later (although not painful as long as I keep on top of it).

Bad mother!! I went upstairs for one minute and Christopher fell an has cut the back o his head. Then I realised that mhairi's app for her jabs was nearl 2 hour ago!! Not a good start to the day!

Scheherezade · 07/02/2012 12:38

oh ffs, I just wrote a long post replying to everyone and my phone died before I could send Angry

strawberrypenguin · 07/02/2012 12:49

Thanks everyone, will let you know how it goes when we get the appointment.
fuzzzy it was picked up as being a possibility at my 35 week growth scan that was just supposed to tell us how big he was so they could decide about an early induction not pickup major problems. Only had it confirmed by CT this week though.
pink :) for helpful consultants glad things are looking up.
Ed Oops, I'm sure they can re-schedule M's jabs, hope C is ok.
scheh technology! Brilliant when it works crap when it fails :o

Jnice · 07/02/2012 13:14

Oh no pebble, still suffering? I have lumps and pains in my right boob, trying to get L to feed them out but no luck so far.

L saw the pediatrician today who said not to medicate but to wait and see if he has more bad days than good until the weekend. So far L has not had another bad episode if silent reflux, just minor grumbling and fussiness. Thank goodness. Anyone going through what we went through on Sunday every day deserves a medal.

pinkpainter · 07/02/2012 13:43

Jnice - Do you think your milk ducts could be getting a bit blocked? I spent about an hour last week with a heated wheat pack on the lump , tried to massage it away and hand expressed a tiny bit of milk to try to clear everything out as much as possible. Had the antibiotics ready to take, but by the morning it felt almost fine. Hope you get yours sorted soon too.

Strawberry - Sorry I missed commenting before - I started posting hours before I finished. Good luck with your app, sounds like a very worrying time for you.

Pebble - Good to hear from someone that has the same problem as me. The white patch is definitely getting smaller, so I think the olive oil is starting to work.

Scheherezade · 07/02/2012 17:10

Ed- I forgot C's apmt for his first jab, remembered two weeks later !

That's wonderful news pink hope the olive oil works :)

I'd like to express so we have a stock, but I just can't do it, I end up running out of milk for C's next feed and he gets so angry! I'm going to start expressing at bedtime, so DP can give him a bottle, but that's replacing a feed, rather than doing it alongside, if that makes sense?

strawberry I must have missed your post? I didnt realise dc had a problem? Have looked through past posts but

Scheherezade · 07/02/2012 17:11

Oh my god my phone battery died but kept my MN message! Definitely impressed!

strawberrypenguin · 07/02/2012 17:31

scheh yay for your phone :o my poor little guy has two completely random could apparently happen to anyone health issues that were found at 35 weeks (thank god it doesnt seem to be syndromatic there was some concern about that before he was born) he has a dilated kidney and fused skull plates.
That said he seems to be hitting his milestones alright so it's just the prospect of head surgery that's freeking me out atm.

Jnice glad L is feeling better :)

PenguinArmy · 07/02/2012 18:49

still working my way through but super there is a 12 week wonder week

DH wouldn't dream of going out even once a week regularly, only if I had the same.

strawberry if you are in Oxford for appointments etc. feel free to call in

We've had a terrible few days, I still have this cold (on day 11) which is in sinuses and can't really take much as BF. DS woke fed every 2 hours last night and stayed awake afterwards. DD still has a bit of cold, plus my stomach started hurting today as well. It's been a few weeks since he slept for more than 3 hours and in the days he's been hard to put to sleep. He's still rattly and coughy as well.

FuzzzyDuck · 07/02/2012 18:56

It's a full moon outside. I'm blaming that for our wild babies!!!

S poo'd this morning and it was slightly hard. I'm worrying now she is getting constipated. Saying that though, she did have a normal poo this afternoon. Has dropped to 5 feeds today also. She has had a few 7oz bottles and a few 6oz. By bedtime she will have had aprox 33oz in 24 hrs. Going by a chart where she should be having 2.5oz per lb of her weight, that's about right (assuming she is 13lbs now which I imagine she is). She can't be dehydrated/constipated then eh? Confused
