Sorry i have time on my hands as Air gone swimming with Granddad and LO sleeping Grin

MsB linked to a blog called Analytical Armadillo - The Booby Whisperer

So i have been reading it for a few days now (I'm new to blogs - i still dont get what it is but its good to read Confused) and came across one for calpol and fevers which i think is really good to know so i have linked to it:

www.analyticalarmadillo.co.uk/search/label/Calpol

I didn't know this but it makes sence so worth a read if you have time Smile

Also if anyone else has another good blog that they read related to child raising please let me know (also if you can explain what a blog is that might help Blush)

LMF hope Edward is doing better today and that he gets well soon ((hugs))

Darcie - i'm Envy of all your wedding plans they sound great. I hope we get to see some photo's Smile

aethelfleda · 30/01/2012 11:16

Air: A "blog" is a WeB LOG ; a sort of on-line diary. Originally most blogs were private or accessed only by "friends", but then people started open access blogs and sometimes tens of thousands of people read them each update. Blogs came before twitter and facebook and have some social networking features such as ability to leave conments.

jigglebum · 30/01/2012 11:55

morning - rubbish night here too - they all must be on the same wave length! Last 2 nights have been rubbish just after 4 good ones when freya slept from 11pm to 3/4 am ish and then back down till 7am ish. Last night and sat we were back to every 2 hours ish (sigh). DH failed to get her to have all her 10pmish bottle so she was hungrier - annoying.

I lost it with dh at 6am when ds wet his bed. We had agreed that dh would get up if ds ever needed it (maybe once a week max) as I was doing all the night stuff with freya. I had just got F back down when ds shouted out about he'd had a leak, left dh to go, he eventually got there, then stood in front of the airing cupboard and shouted to me - where's his sheets? In the airing cupboard as usual I reply. He cant find them so says he'll have to just pull it all out to get it and starts to throw all the bedding onto the floor. I get up - the sheet is the second thing out (so not hard to find) and shout at him to go to bed and I ll do it myself. Upset ds and wake up F again with the noise. Not impressed. Sorry for rant but I dont think they realise how hard 7 weeks of sleep deprivation is. so this mornng has consisted of cbeebies and computer games for ds!

On a more positive note, after a very dull saturday of DIY we went out cycling yesterday. Managed 16km off road - first time back on a bike for months and months. Nice thing about giving f the occasional bottle is other people can have her for a bit. She didnt need a feed whilst I was gone but I knew she would be ok.

Someone mentioned gripe water? do you find it works? can you give it before 3 months? f still has terrible tummy/wind problems and we have stopped the infacol as didnt help. she also has mild thrush which doesnt help feeding/tummy issues. we are both on nystatin drops but not clearing up much. I think she got it from my antibiotics after she was born.

gosh - sorry mammoth post. I either post nothing or too much - sorry!

NorthernChinchilla · 30/01/2012 12:42

jiggle I know what you mean, it's a case of getting one chance per day or two to catch up and post!

Impressed with your cycling antics, blimey...

Back from bf group, so when DS detaches I'll try to get some lunch.

HoneyLovesCake · 30/01/2012 13:29

Sorry for all the bad nights...me too but due to my insomnia rather than DS who slept beautifully. He's had a couple of fussy evening though that have left me exhausted...so why can't I sleep!!! Confused

LMF i hope Octoboy's doing better

Air Well done on the potty training...seems to have worked really quickly. thanks for the calpol link...think I'll try & find an alternative without the E numbers!

Oi A bit late but saline drops always make Rocco wail for a minute or 2 but he gets a lovely relieved look after a couple of sneezes so it's worth it...if he's fast asleep though I don't use them even if he's really grunty; after all it's bothering me more than him if he's sleeping.

Decided I have to start cloth nappying during the day this week so I pulled out my nappies (which I have not looked at since I was pregnant) & I'm Shock. I have the oddest selection of nappies; I thought I was all ready to go but I'm going to have to blame this on the baby brain...I have LOADS of super-cute newborn nappies WTF was I thinking???! So those need to go straight back on ebay Blush I have LOADS of prefolds (which I can't really be arsed with) but only a couple of matching wraps so I think those will have to go to. I have 1 adorable size 1 fluffle & 1 size 2 & about 5 motherease which are still too big. So basically I have 1 nappy that will fit him right now Grin DP is NOT going to be happy when I start shopping again!!!

Right...off to try & have a quick nap & then my mission for the day is to finish reading "what your Doctor may not tell you about children's vaccinations"...'tis scary reading & I honestly wish I'd never picked it up since I know now I'm going to vaccinate anyway

DarcieandSkysmum · 30/01/2012 13:47

Jingle I mentioned gripe water. You can use it from 1month old. I find it helps Sky alot with wind.

luckysevens · 30/01/2012 14:59

jiggle I know what you mean about your DH, I could have throttled mine this morning when he asked if he had a shirt ironed.

We were meant to be having one of those season and shake mixes for tea where you just put everything in the bag. The bag split whilst I was shaking Angry. Thankfully I didn't have Eva in the wrap otherwise she could have been covered in raw chicken. Don't think I'll be buying one again!

Eva isn't very happy this afternoon. She was grunting, straining and refusing her bottle and has now fallen asleep on my shoulder. Next job is to light the fire if I can manage to put her down

KateM77 · 30/01/2012 15:14

mopsy I agree with what others said about routines. I didn't read any books or try and impose any routine on DD and she just found her own quite easily.

Sorry to hear so many of you had bad nights. You're going to hate me...I got two 3.5 hour stretches last night. I know it's against all the advice, but DS being in his cot bed in his own room is certainly working well for us :)

Mmmmcheese · 30/01/2012 15:16

Well DS's temp was down to 36.9 this morning after sleeping in just nappy and shorts (otherewise he takes the nappy off!) So sent him to childminder but when I picked him up after lunch it had spiked to 40! Going to take him to GP this afternoon. He's sleeping in shorts again now. Hate it when they are ill! Strange that he has no symptoms other than temp and grizzly.

Not looking forward to juggling DD and DS at the GP omn my own though. I drive and then put DD in the sling but DS can't walk very well and always toddles in the wrong direction so I end up carrying them both! Too many steps for a pushchair to handle. Will probably both be crying when I get there as well!

KateM77 · 30/01/2012 15:27

mmm hope DS is much better soon, as you say it's horrible when they're ill. I hope that it goes OK at the GP. I know what you mean - it's a mission taking both mine to the doctor. All the GP's rooms are upstairs at our surgery so I have DS in the car seat and have to help DD up and down the stairs too, and it's always so bloody hot in there I get very flustered!

aethelfleda · 30/01/2012 16:07

honey, if you want an alternative to ebay with no fees can I recommend clothnappytree? You can sell new or used nappies there with mo fees, its a free to join private classifieds site, v good for picking up things too. As a seller you state your price and can take offers too, may work better for you than a fee paying auction site. Plus turnover is fast!!

clothnappytree

aethelfleda · 30/01/2012 16:14

And this one is free to register and sell too:

mopsytop · 30/01/2012 16:33

Ugh feeling very shivery/shaky like flu and a bit faint. Hope not boob related as haven't expressed since yesterday and she's only been on once. Pain in left calf too and right calf. Had for a few days but not sure if is muscular or circulatory. Has got worse in left calf but just did long walk. Doesn't hurt to flex my foot or to the touch or anything plus I did those anti-clotting injections for a week plus six weeks of compression stockings. So I don't need to worry about a clot do I? Wish I wasn't such a worry wart/hypochondriac!!

HoneyLovesCake · 30/01/2012 16:35

Thanks aethel :) I will decide what I want to sell & have a look later; I was convinced I'd bought loads more as I'd decided what to buy but my brain was pretty foggy in the 3rd trimester Grin

aethelfleda · 30/01/2012 17:22

Hey, I'm the same: bought what I thought was lots of little ones but turns out all the tots bots wraps I have are size 1 (12lb upwards) So using motherease wraps instead . The motherease one size that are my standard bestest nappy still look enormous on Albert so will have to wait to use those...

NorthernChinchilla · 30/01/2012 17:39

Ooooh mopsy, hope it's not the dreaded mastitis- given how quickly it comes on you'll know by now given the time of your post. Doesn't sound like a DVT- I had a suspected one a little while ago- but do get it checked out if you're concerned.

HLCC I'd put the leaflet down if I were you, especially if you're going ahead with the vaccinations... they are safe and you don't want to cause yourself unnecessary worry and add to that insomnia!

Figgygal · 30/01/2012 18:02

I've called the HV about LO's rampant hunger/screaming and she has suggested upping his feeds by another ounce and giving him an ounce of cooled boiled water in case he's dehydrated, any of you ladies had a dehydrated baby before? I wonder whether she's on to something there!!

Mmmmcheese · 30/01/2012 18:05

GP thinks DS has an ear infection which would explain the temp. He had one two weeks ago so I guess it never really went away. Have different antibiotics this time so hope they work. He is prone to getting ear infections in his left ear for some reason.

I am SO sleepy today. DH came back early from work so I am bfeeding DD in peace. Unfortunately it means that I am half asleep though! Feeding always makes me sleepy.

DarcieandSkysmum · 30/01/2012 18:24

Figgy Sky has at least 1 bottle of cooled water a day Smile

OiMissus · 30/01/2012 20:57

Just been to view a house, "offers over.."
I'm not sure we can afford it. Going to investigate further. It's a huge family house. We 3 would rattle around in it. We'd have to fill it. I really liked the potential. Hmmm...

Kitty5824 · 30/01/2012 21:08

Survived my first day with Daddy back at work! Have decided to plan 1 thing a day...today was posting the stuff we sold on ebay this weekend. Check. Smile

Tomorrow's aim is actually twofold - get up with Daddy and go to the collection office to get the parcel that the postman tried to deliver today (postie must of knocked on the door and legged it as he was gone by the time I got to the door) and meet some old work colleagues at "Ryhme time". An actual timed event. Have already text them to say I'll probably get there as they are all leaving..... Grin

Not sure who was asking, but anyone in Manchester looking at baby slings, there is a Sling library in Cheadle where you can rent one for a fortnight. The meet every Wed 10am-11am. That'll be my aim for Wednesday then!!

Mmmmcheese · 30/01/2012 21:33

Keep meaning to say that I like LMFs thread title suggestion. How is octoboy doing?

AWomanCalledHorse · 30/01/2012 21:56

Well done Kitty!! I've found over the last month, I'm fine with looking after DS, but find it really daunting on sunday night/monday morning!

We're registering him tomorrow, and I'm having last minute nerves over our name choices...is that quite normal?
I mean I'm happy with the names but a bit disappointed DH vetoed the (hippy) middle names I really, really wanted.

Figgy, our LO gets a bottle (well a suck on a bottle, everynow & again) of water a day..we're trying to cut his feeds down a bit more (he's on 7-8, HV thinks it's a bit much as he's shot up above his percentile line in the last week), although we tried it pre-hungry baby formula & he drank an entire 150ml of water & still screamed for milk.

For those of you with previous DC; 'teething poos'...do they normally stink alot worse than normal poo? DS smells like a sewer rat atm Grin

Figgygal · 30/01/2012 22:12

LO is on 6 feeds today but am upping them by another oz tomorrow as he's still finishing them every feed, he's also had 2 1oz servings of water today his lips are dry, DH rather than panicking every time he cries he needs more water rather than more food, it's very draining.

Hoping for a 5am stop overnight he was an hour earlier last night but he was in bed an hour earlier. Need to start bringing his last feed forward what time are you all getting your lo's down at night?

aethelfleda · 31/01/2012 02:18

Figgy: you should find there's a natural "conk out time" for your LO sometime between 7-11 . The body clock can be fooled quite effectively by using 10 minute changes: so 10 minute changes a night in when you give the last feed should bring it foreard by approx an hour a week (incidentally this is how yoi reset their body clock when they are a teenager and give themselves insommnia with too much late night telly!!!)
