Riamay I second Ali with the Wine You obviously don't want to get plastered (or a hangover!) when looking after two babies but a glass won't do any harm (as long as the 11 month old doesn't knock it over!) :)

JKSLtd · 28/03/2012 18:11

Riamay - I third the others, I definitely enjoy a glass or two of the good stuff Grin

Been awol as been busy, loving this weather :)

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 28/03/2012 22:58

riamay Your girls are gorgeous. And I fourth the others re the Wine.

It's hard now but i'm sure your girls will have a lovely bond as they grow up. Personally, I had 2 friends with sisters less than a year older than themselves when I was young and I was always very Envy of them. I only have a brother four years older than me who wouldn't have been seen dead playing with me Grin.

I hope your DH is being a bit more considerate today. If not, perhaps a little phone call to his mum might be in order!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/03/2012 07:24

We had a lovely day yesterday, T got some lovely presents and enjoyed his first slice of homemade birthday cake!

But we are ill! He, I and DS1 are all snotty and wheezing and I had to come to bed early last night because I was all shivery.

It is the Easter hols here now. 2.5 weeks with no preschool! Grin

Cyclebump · 29/03/2012 08:36

Happy birthday babies!

Can't believe it's nearly birthday time. I keep remembering what life was like waiting for H to arrive last year, sniff...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/03/2012 08:42

I'm glad you all had a lovely day Ali, shame about the lurgy though. Have a quiet day and eat the left over birthday cake Grin

I will just ignore your comment about pre school ......... I am in denial Grin

After being away from baby I all day on Sat and Mon, he has become a boob monster and my shadow . Of course M couldn't care less and enjoyed the time with his dad. They all went pond dipping and today I am taking in the jar of frog spawn to pre school while juggling ds2 and baby I. It could get interesting Grin

I hope you got a chance to see F yesterday UBW Smile

Your girls are gorgeous Ria . We are pale and blue eyed in ILTMIMI Towers.

OutMeAndDie · 29/03/2012 20:22

Happy birthday babies. Hope house of Ali is on the mend.

GlaikitFizzog · 29/03/2012 20:26

Happy birthday m & t! Its so exciting all the birthdays coming!!

I've joined the choir at work. there has been a London one for a while now and finally there's one in Scotland! I'm also assistant choir master Shock! Why do I volunteer for these things????? I'm going to have to dust off my keyboard as I'm taking the rehearsal next week!!! Still it means I'm out at least one night a week for none work reasons.

Anyone panic buying petrol??

OP posts:
OutMeAndDie · 30/03/2012 08:33

Oh good stuff fizz Smile

NotBobbysGirl · 30/03/2012 11:03

Happy belated birthday to yesterdays birthday babies!

Fizz Choir sounds interesting! Yep to panic buying of fuel!! We have a wedding to get to on Sunday (brothers) so we really did need it!
Slightly concerned about the visitors coming up for it tho who are all coming from down south! Shock hope they can all make it!

Hope you're all feeling better soon Ali

ILTMI Good luck with the frog spawn juggling! We are all of the pale variety here too, except I have green eyes and dark hair (dyed) oh and DP is a peculiar shade of orange after using my tan excellerating after sun on his sun burn for the last few days!!!

Starshaped · 30/03/2012 11:12

The petrol stations have sold out round me Shock. Luckily we have a full tank at the moment, otherwise I suspect I probably would have been panic buying Blush

I've got a real Friday feeling today. I love it. Definitely one of the plus points of being back at work!

ecuse · 30/03/2012 21:44

Hello lovelies, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the early babies (mine is one of the tardy young ones, she's just turned 11 months).

Well that was my penultimate full week of mat leave done. Just next week now and then the monday/tues of the following week I'm doing settling in with the childminder and back to work on the Weds. Eep. Have to do work clothes shopping next week, which I am NOT looking forward to.

Has anyone (ahem ) got advice on the best type of baby bike carrier? DP will be dropping Jo off at the childminder in the mornings on his way out to appointments on his bike. Seen lots online but no experience of what's best. Like the idea of one that sits between the knees rather than behind the saddle (more stable? plus can keep an eye on her) but is that the right way to go? Any brands to seek out/avoid?

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 31/03/2012 18:43

We've got a wee ride, F seems to like it.

Dh did a lot of research on the ones he could get staff discount on and thought this looked best.

ecuse · 31/03/2012 20:19

I like the look of the wee ride. Is Is for DP bike though. He needs to drop Jo off at childminder in the morning then cycle off to work and spend much of day on bike going between appointments. I'll then have sling in my bag to pick her up in evenings. He's worried about having to cycle with knees sticking out to accommodate seat - do you find that a problem? His knees are slightly dicky already so doesn't want to aggravate them especially if the seat is empty most of the day. Likes the front seat in theory for stability and being able to see baby but wondering if back seat better for knees. Or has anyone come across a handlebar mounted one? Have seen some about in real life but haven't seen one when online browsing.

chillikat · 31/03/2012 21:44

We're looking for a bike seat too - for exactly the same thing as you ecuse. DH is going to drop her off at nursery and I'm going to pick her up. Slight difference is that I think I'll be calling at home to collect the pram rather than using the sling (in the hope she'll drop off in the pram and I can leave her in it snoozing :) )
We had our first settling in day yesterday - we left her for an hour or so while we went for a cup of tea - I don't even think she noticed we'd gone... I'm happy and sad about that! :o
Today was M's birthday party, jointly with another baby friend. Everything went really well :) and now I'm scoffing the left over mini donuts.

Last week of being with her full time next week - we'll have to have lots of fun :)

Cyclebump · 02/04/2012 08:27

Handlebar seats are meant to be fab but I can't have one on my bike as I have low, flat handlebars. They suit Dutch bikes much better apparently. My male friends generally have bike seats that sit on the rear rack behind them because of this, men's bikes tend to have lower handlebars (or it could just be that they all ride roadies).

The only thing thrive mentioned is that rear-mounted seats can take a bit if getting used to as the extra weight on the back can make the steering a bit wobbly on corners.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/04/2012 13:13

I thought I put a post on here last night, but it isn't here Confused

Day 1 of the Easter holidays. We have all had lunch and the boys are in bed, ahhhhhh. We went to watch a shadow puppet play this morning. Both boys loved it. I thought baby I might be a bit of a fidgety nightmare, but he was transfixed the whole way through Smile After the show the puppeteer invited the children to look at the puppets and the screen, but asked the children not to touch anything Hmm His show was great but he seemed very uncomfortable with children Confused

I now need to sort out things to do for the next fortnight!

A couple of the dancers from Strictly are doing a tour (and for once at a theatre near me), and my sister and I have tickets. The only downside is I have to wait until June Grin

Fab new about the choir Fizz, I have an ambition to join a choir when I have more time and when I am less knackered. There are lots of choirs in my area, but none of the music they do inspires me. What sort of stuff are you going to do?

Oh, and I have sheep's skull to clean. How does one do that? Bleach?

GlaikitFizzog · 02/04/2012 17:00

Funny my post from yesterday isn't here either Hmm

ILike we are working on a medley from mamma mia. for the works summer family day thing. all the choirs round here are church choirs and as I am in no way religious I felt it would be wrong to join one. so I'm quite excited about the work one. plus they are footing the bill too so no expensive fees.

I saw dirty dancing at the weekend. it was so good but sad that it wasn't Patrick swayeze playing johnny. felt like a giggley teenager watching it.

I was working this morning hoping to earn some brownie points and extra cash with the bosses.

B has become a daredevil. he stands at the tv unit and lets go for a second. stands on his own the grabs on again. the look of pride on his face is fab! Not ling for the walking here me thinks!!

GlaikitFizzog · 02/04/2012 17:04

Sheep skull? Is there um stillflesh on it!or is it just the bone?. Bleach would bleach the bone white. Warm water and a toothbrush? Bicarb?

Why are you cleaning a sheep skull!?

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 02/04/2012 19:11

eek, F just fell backwards after his bath and hit the top of his head on the bottom of the sink pillar thing, as well as on the floor.

He fully screamed for a.minute or two, but was ok after that. He went a bit pale for a minute too. But was chasing the cat as soon as he was dressed.

He fell asleep on the boob, woke a bit and fell straight asleep when I put him down. But he missed his afternoon nap, so is shattered anyway.

I'm sure he's fine. I just don't like that I can't watch his behaviour to reassure myself. He's asleep, but because he's tired!

Aargh! Any suggestions?

I've tickled his palms and he wriggles in his sleep. I've just heard him rolling over on the monitor. His soft spot feels normal.

They're designed for bumps, aren't they?!

Tell me I'm being silly.

Actually, I think he's awake...

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 02/04/2012 19:17

He was awake between sleep cycles, 'said' hello when I went in, tried to sit up (in sleeping bag).

I think all is fine.

Hi all, by the way! Easter hols here, bloomin lush (bar the injury!)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/04/2012 19:29

Basket - just check every now and then, he'll probably be fine. Do go to A&E if he vomits though Smile

No flesh ( I hope) on the sheep skull. We found it in the park yesterday and ds wanted it. He was fascinated in why/how the skull got there. It will be good for show and tell at pre school Grin. I thought maybe a scrub with bleach and water. They don't have sheep skull scenarios in parenting books do they?!

Baby I does the letting go thing every now and then. He also learnt how to climb the stairs today, so the gate has gone up.

GlaikitFizzog · 02/04/2012 19:30

They are made for bumps. as long as you can rouse him, I think the hello will count as that! B has whacked his head more times than I care to remember and he is just fine. on out baby first aid the Saudi to be aware they may vomit with a concussion but I think that's soon after the incident.

OP posts:
UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 02/04/2012 19:40

Well, it was a noise of greeting which I took to mean hello! Like I do with the cat!

I'll keep an eye on him and will whip him off to a&e at the first hint of a vom.

He doesn't actually say anything properly yet, except 'uh-oh' for dropped things. But lots of exclamations and pointing. He's doing the letting go standing up thing too, which is surprising given.how long it took him do roll & crawl!

I used to know about skull cleaning, from a course, but can't remember anything, sorry.

chillikat · 02/04/2012 20:01

I'm sure he'll be fine UBW, at least you didn't fling him across the park like I did with M last week Blush.
It's my last full day with M tomorrow before nursery and work get in the way :( She's got settling in mornings of Wed and Thurs then it's all starting properly next week.
She's been climbing the stairs for a few weeks now, under close supervision. Since teaching her to turn round to go backwards down them she's got a bit carried away with the idea and yesterday crawled backwards the entire length of the landing! It was very funny - I need to get a video of it.

A quick AIBU - we gave my mum a CD of photos of M at the weekend and she's busy putting them up on Facebook, unfortunately including bathtime ones which we've not been putting up as we don't want M embarrassed in years to come. I've asked her to remove them - fair enough?
