Mmmm maltloaf. I'd not thought of that as a snack. Sounds like the perfect excuse to buy some and scoff it myself smothered in butter Wink

Now, a question about KIT days. I've got a couple coming up. When do I get paid for them? Is it now or once I'm back at work? I'm sure I remember somebody (maybe NBG?) talking about this in the past.

DairyBeetle · 09/02/2012 20:20

Oh deary me I've just it The Wall. I ended up in tears because I couldn't decide what I wanted for my tea Sad

S has had a tummy bug, started vomiting at 9pm yesterday, then everything that went in came back up until mid afternoon today. I have had about 3 hours sleep, am completely touched out and DH seems to think that being cute and playful is the best remedy to exhausted wife. No, it would be much more helpful if tea was cooked for me so I didn't have to think about it, the washing was put on, or took over bedtime routine (apart from the feeding bit obviously). Grrr >and breath< I shouldn't be so hard on him, I think I'm subconsciously sulking because he leaves for the states early Sunday and has been working stupidly long days this week.

While I can think (a bit) - Lunch Box:
Ryveta (or how ever it's spelt)
Pita bread in strips w/dippy bits
Hard boiled egg
Soup in a little flask with chunks of bread
there was something else and it's slowly slipping from my mind umm...

I'm going make a Brew listen to the church bell ringing practice and watch the snow...maybe I'll remember my final lunch box suggestion!

GlaikitFizzog · 09/02/2012 20:21

I got paid for my kit days while still on ml.

oh, pasta! S loves pasta when it's gone cold Hmm

ecuse · 09/02/2012 20:22

Star I was just about to post and suggest malt loaf is stuffed full of iron (I think) and a much better vehicle for butter than dried apricots Grin Now you have two reasons to eat it. It's meant to be.

So, hive mind, do we reckon malt loaf is ok for babies? Joanna loves the few bites she's had of mine, not sure whether it's ok to give her her own portion? On the one hand I'm pretty sure it's a great source of iron, on the other hand... is it cake?

So I need some sympathy: THEY HAVE LOST A THING UP MY CHUFF! Shock Had a coil fitted just before xmas. Could never feel the strings but have short fat fingers and have never been able to reach ny cervix anyway so didn't think much of it. Went back for 6 week check the other day and it doesn't seem to be there. Had nurse check, then doctor double check (with a HOOK "to see if he could fish the strings out") and the could find no evidence of it. So I have to go for an ultrasound next week to see whether it's still in there! They sent me home with a prescription for the morning after pill and a paper bag full of condoms. I felt like a teenager! They also did a preg test on the spot which was fortunately negative. Question I have not yet dared to Google: if it's still there but the strings have got all tucked up inside, how do they get it out? Am I going to have to deliver a coil by c-section? This could only happen to me....

GlaikitFizzog · 09/02/2012 20:23

Hugs dairy. thanks for the lunchbox tips! Envy of your bells and snow. Hope you have a better nite.

Cross posts - dairy that sounds utterly shit, you poor, poor thing. And you were working on so little sleep to begin with. You are doing a sterling job of keeping your shit together I think, and a good cry is often helpful to me when knackered and overwrought. Totally know what you mean about lack of practical support. I often think that about DP. just once I'd like to emerge from putting J to bed to the smell of my dinner cooking or even the toys and highchair having been put away rather than having to start from scratch cooking dinner and tidying at 8.30pm. Speaking of which I think Jo has been fast asleep on my lap for the last 10 minutes whilst I've been tapping away on my phone...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2012 20:47

I'm sorry Ecuse, but your chuff story just made me spray tea over the keyboard!

I don't know how they get the coil out, but they do it without doing a section! A friend had her coil removed at her 12 week scan with her unexpected dd Shock Grin

{{Dairy}} go to bed early and just sleep when you can. Sod the dinner, clearing up and housework. I find in situations like this I just have to tell dh what to do. He is fab in many ways, but he does need direction when his mind reading skills aren't working!

I also do the subconcious sulking too, I'm a nightmare for it. It takes me a while to realise I'm doing it. Luckily dh spots it straight away and just ignores me or gives me a hug.

baby I has been having a slice of malt loaf for ages. Yes it's cake, but he doesn't have it everyday and I don't put butter on it

chillikat · 09/02/2012 20:57

I got paid for my KIT day in the following month's pay.

Dairy poor you and S. Hope you get more sleep tonight.

We have snow too. Hoping we'll be able to get to swimming ok tomorrow. The main roads should be ok though. It's been hard work with the pushchari on the ice.

Ecuse no advice but sympathy and eek!

M likes malt loaf, and so do I. I tend to think it's healthier than cake, though I have given her cake on occasion too, and tastes of all sorts of things I shouldn't... including various alcoholic beverages BlushConfused

Starshaped · 09/02/2012 21:00

Shock Confused ecuse. And that is why I've never been brave enough to try a coil!

Dairy Brew and an early night maybe? I agree that a good cry can sometimes help. Fingers crossed that S has a big sleep tonight to catch up on all he's missed and that you can get your head down in peace.

Hmmmm, I thought I'd get paid this month for the KIT days but my manager said I'll get it when I come back. It doesn't really matter, I'm back next month but that's not the point. I'm trusting him to sort the paperwork out and have no intention of working for free while I'm on mat leave!

Now, I'm off to try and persuade DH to nip up to Saino's for some malt loaf. What with my possible low iron levels it's strictly medicinal don't you know Wink

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2012 21:10

Don't buy the pre sliced malt loaf, it is shite. It just doesn't have the same moist squidgyness of the uncut loaf. The mini loaves that are individually wrapped aren't much cop either.

Not that I'm an expert or anything Blush

I have heard far to many coil horror stories to ever have one put in. I'm still waiting for dh to get the ball rolling (excuse the pun) wrt a vasectomy Hmm

OutMeAndDie · 09/02/2012 21:11

Hugs dairy

And ooooooo ecuse

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 09/02/2012 23:43

Mmmmm Battenberg (we really need a cake smiley)

Oh ecuse you poor thing, all that fishing around in your fanjo . if you havn't already please start a thread in chat entitled THEY HAVE LOST A THING UP MY CHUFF Grin
After that story you should definately make it into NBG's next dream!

Dairy Hope you and S are feeling better and currently tucked up in bed. After DS last week it was P's turn for the sicky bug today. She bought her breakfast up but has kept down breastmilk and water, Unfortunately she only usually has 2 breastfeeds a day so at bedtime tonight she was sucking away for an hour and I'm sure she's still hungry, hopefully it will increase my supply for tomorrow. Mum tried her with her usual formula when I was working this afternoon but it didn't stay down. Will try her with a finger of dry toast in the morning.

DS is still driving me potty with his diva strops. However, he did make me a lovely valentine card and shortbread at preschool today, so it's not all bad.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/02/2012 00:14

Diary hugs you sound exhausted. I hope you get some sleep tonight.
I also agree that you need to issue instructions to DH under these circumstances.

ecuse - Shock nightmare. My mum is a Dr and does lots of coil fittings, she is always on at me to get one - not fitted by her though obviously! Not a fucking chance now!!

We love maltloaf here, we get through loads. DS1 takes it in his lunchbox to preschool, and T loves it too although always ends up with a very brown and sticky face when he eats it Grin

Fizz for lunches I would stick to sandwiches mainly, else you'll be doing your own head in faffing about with bits and pieces - or I would anyway! T likes cheese, ham, chicken, hummus, whatever left over roast meat is in the fridge. B is perhaps a bit little for quiche, although T did have a wedge today, but on reflection it might be a bit salty, oops.
I put leftover bits of dinners in the fridge for T as well, so tomorrow for lunch he's having bean casserole (sausages all eaten!) with some grated cheese on it. The other day he had cold chopped up potatoes with a bit of creme fraiche and cold salmon with cucumber and celery sticks - something like that would be fairly portable?

DH has a job, thank fuckity fuck. He starts a week Tuesday, so we're going to have an 'on holiday' week next week when it is half term and go to the zoo and take the boys out for lunch and things. :)

Cyclebump · 10/02/2012 08:23

Hooray for job Ali!

Brew for Dairy, forget the housework, life is too short!

Oooh ecuse, hope they find it.

OutMeAndDie · 10/02/2012 09:00

Hooray for mrali

Starshaped · 10/02/2012 09:59

Fab news Ali. An excuse for some Wine tonight I think!

JKSLtd · 10/02/2012 11:49

Fab news Ali Grin

Ecuse eek hope it's found! Though I think i read on MN about them falling out occasionally could that have happened?

Dairy sympathies Brew

Still sniffling and coughing here today fed up wih it now.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/02/2012 14:35

Hurrah. Well done MrAli Smile sounds like a great plan for the half term too.

My chocolate porridge (product test via MN) has arrived and I am stupidly excited. I'm not sure why though as I don't really like sweet things for breakfast. Ds will think it's his birthday when he gets it tomorrow, although I hope he doesn't like it too much because I doubt I would buy it. That sounds very mean doesn't it? But we've managed to get this far without having sugary cereals.

I had an unexpected treat this morning. My dad came round and looked after I while I done some shopping in town - on my own! A whole 2 hours!

OutMeAndDie · 10/02/2012 17:06

[munches malt loaf]

JKSLtd · 10/02/2012 17:11
GsyPotatoPieEyed · 10/02/2012 19:33

Lovely to hear good news on the job front for MrAli. I now can't stop humming we're all going to the zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow, we're all......

Dairy Hope you've had a better day today.

P is improving, no chucking up today. DS' tandrums seem to have eased down too. Made sure both had an early night tonight, they were asleep by 7 (fingers crossed they stay that way until the morning). DH has gone out to his cinema club AGM so I am going to sort out some more stuff for the NCT sale, catch up with OBEM on the PS3. Later on I will get out the Bailey's and watch the repeat of True Blood (I dream of Eric Northman doing bad things to me Blush Wink)

I'm a wee bit Envy of the snow, we very rarely get it down here and DS is absolutely desperate to build a snowman.

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 10/02/2012 19:58

GGGRRRR... phone rang and woke up P, just took half an hour to settle her again. And it's ALWAYS DH' friends or family that phone the home phone in the evening. Perhaps if DH occassionally changed his bloody phone off the silent mode they might actually phone him instead!

chillikat · 10/02/2012 20:38

There should be reference to malt loaf on our next thread (though it's a way off yet). Favourite food in this house at the moment is dried apple, at least with M and me. I bought a bag last week and it's virtually gone now. I'm not sure if it's me or her that's eaten the most. Back to tesco tomorrow for some more (and the malt loaf)

I just nearly gave DH an asthma attack by showing him this thread.
