reastie · 20/01/2012 18:54

Oh, and for those people thinking about first birthday cakes - I'm thinking of making one like this for alice. It looks quite straight forward to do (and I do love a bit of hungry catepillar Grin )

debka · 20/01/2012 19:10

OMG ledkr what brilliant news for both girls!! So glad to hear D slept, and massive well done to little superstar Ella :)

choc glad R seems to be on the mend, must have been bloody terrifying at the time though :(

delia that is grim, YADNBU, they shouldn't have done it and I bet they know as well. My DH smokes but always outside and if he's looking after the girls he makes sure they are safe and occupied before he goes out, and watches through the glass door the whole time.

reastie that cake is gorgeous, even though I make cakes a lot for other people I have no idea what to do for S. We'll be away (o yes) at Center Parcs on her birthday, so she might just get a swiss roll with a candle in on the day Grin

blizy Jaxon, baaaaaad.... Jackson isn't even a bloody name, it's a surname!

Just moved S's cot into Imy's room today! Now she sleeps through pretty reliably and is waking a bit later we though we'd risk it. DH really needs her old room for his office, and it's been lovely getting his desk and paraphernalia out of the lounge, it's gorge in here now! Let's just hope they sleep... Although Imy is at my mum's (fingers crossed she doesn't have a change of heart before bed!) so their first night together will be tomorrow.

Emski76 · 20/01/2012 19:34

Delia, Iam furious on your behalf re smoking mil.i am an x smoker so can be very precious about it. Your dh def needs o put his foot down and tell her if OU find out its happened agin she will no longer be looking after C. Wow, I thought my mil was difficult!

Ledkr, brilliant news about Ella, and especially about D sleeping thru, what did you do different last night?

Choc, sorry R had been do poorly, how scary for you and how miserable for her. Yes, to being main caregiver, it's hard sometimes but I think most people assume it will be that way.

Reastie, am going to take a look at that cake. I really need to try making my own cake for Noah's birthday, I have a terrible habit of ordering all my cakes from Costco!

Deb, sweet that the girls will be sharing a room.

What are everyones plans for the weekend? Ben has football first thing tomorrow then Costco to pick up the cake, then Ben has his first Drama and Musical theatre class on the afternoon. Not sure how he'll get on! Sunday is Noah's Christening, so don't think I'll be getting any rest this weekend!

Have good weekends y'all.

ledkr · 20/01/2012 19:35

Blimey delias not bu at all,id go mental and i smoke when i go out Is she unaware of the risks? Tbh ive heard that the smoke is on the persons clothes so she needs to not be smoking at all when she has her.I would defo have it out with her,i once tried to launch a child protection enquiry when i went to a clients house and the 3 yr old was in an enviroment not unlike an opium den Hmm
choc hope she is better soon.
wiggs I tend not to do shoes untill they are walking properly, she wears leather booties and pram shoes,i got some nice sturdyish ones form matalan and they are just like cruisers but 3.50 a pair GrinDills wont walk yet she is still cruising.
borg Grin at the pirate patch for Nate. (has everyone read the mn classic pirate sex thread? Hilarious.)
reastie make a birthday cake? Are you mad? Sainsbos for me im afraid especially with 2 in one week.
deb Well done on your continued quest to be thinner Grin

Thanks for all your congrats for Ella.
The Dillster had her cleft palate review today. The op was a success and she should be ok,need to keep an eye on ears and speech now. Speech therapist says her vocab is like an 18 month old she was in fine form telling her who we all are and playing full on boo! Last night she actually switched on the keyboard so that she could play it,i swear. Its a tiny sliding switch.
off to watch corrie now Smile

ledkr · 20/01/2012 19:41

ems I am not going to analyse it. Nothing different apart from we have been pretty consistent with the night wakes, shush pat then leave the room then back after 5 mins for shush pat and so on. It maybe a one off who can tell.I was shocked when we woke up!It did cross my mind when i went to sleep how odd it would be when she eventually did it.

wigglesrock · 20/01/2012 20:39

ledkr fantastic news about Ella and both Dilly sleeping and her review today Grin I'm glad you scoffed at making a birthday cake, I am off to order Annas from local bakery, not much dearer with Tescos but twice as nice Grin

deliaskis that's horrible for you and C. My granny (Mums Mum) still smokes and she won't have one when she's at my Mums if A is there. My mum told her she could have one in the garage if she wanted but she just doesn't bother.

Chocoroo glad R is on the mend x

Borg have to say having a little giggle at N sleeping when you were visiting dh work.

reastie enjoy the testing and debka enjoy the extra space Grin

Mr W got his stitches out, his scar is really neat compared to mine Hmm

Nothing much happening here this weekend, I'm doing a split shift tomorrow - so will be mooching around my Mums on Sunday feigning exhaustion Grin

Oh almost forgot blizy Jaxon?, Jaxon?, Jaxon? Grin

ILovePonyo · 20/01/2012 20:52

Ooh lots to catch up on...

delia that is definitely not on, end of. Dp smokes and goes outside, he also still washes his face and hands after if he is with A. Tbh, smoking f*cking stinks (and I say this as an ex smoker) - now I don't smoke anymore I can really smell it on dp when hes been outside having a cig, its rank thinking how it must smell to a little baby. Poor C and poor you, let us know how you get on with mil. (did you notice my delia style swear Grin)

ledkr yay! Great news, and congrats to Ella she will be fab :)

reastie that cake looks easy you say?! Shock It'll be a sainsbos job for me too I'm afraid Grin

Borg ha at N being placid, people always look a bit shocked when A is being peaceful then she cries - she has quite a loud cry and I don;t think they expect it from a little one like her Grin

blizy Jaxon eh, he'll be having to spell that everytime he says it when hes older.

deb aww to the girls sharing a room! Maybe they'll encourage each other to let you have a lie-in Hmm Grin

choco phew glad that R is on the mend, what a relief for you. I can relate to being the primary care giver and having to be off work - can't see dp being off if A is ever ill. Though the babies do just want their mummies if they're poorly

emksi we're doing a food shop this weekend Hmm might take A to the park and the swings again actually. Hope sunday goes well, pics afterwards please!

A and I went to TWO music classes today, yes really Shock Its funny b'cos one you had to pay for and it was in a nice area - it was all yummy mummy types who seemed a bit cliquey and didn't make conversation, the other one was a free one at surestart in a rough area and everyone is dead nice Grin I have to say that A was a little star, she did me proud both times, plus everyone at surestart kept saying how cute she is

I just cut her hair in the bath, its a dangerous business, she kept crying and flinging her head around, maybe I should take her to a hairdressers after all Hmm

wigglesrock · 20/01/2012 20:59

ponyo Mr W cut Sofias hair when she was about 7 months (had to get rid of the Elvis quiff at some point), it was an unmitigated disaster Grin Been a regular hairdresser appt for her since then!

I took Anna and the girls to the library yesterday, A loved it, she sat at a little table turning pages it was the cutest thing ever until she got a bit bored, slid off the chair and almost split her lip open!

reastie · 20/01/2012 21:19

wiggles you just reminded me that DH and I were in waterstones with alice yesterday and DH was bouncing her on these baby bouncing toys in there and he didn't watch her properly and she fell head first onto the floor and screamed blue murder until she got distracted - it was dhs first taste of screaming baby in quiet public place and he looked a little flustered Wink

ems we were going to take alice to the zoo tomorrow but couldn't be bothered decided she was a bit young still to warrant the £££ entry fee so we're taking her to a local farm park type place then on sun it's family central with visits to my parents, my aunt and uncle are coming to see alice for the first time, PILs visiting and then we are visiting my granny.

tadjennyp · 21/01/2012 06:48

Well done D and E ledkr!

The smoking would really piss me off too, delia.

Congrats on all the weight loss and cute and placid baby comments!

Glad MrW's stitches came out fine.

Have a lovely day on Sunday for Noah's christening, Emski.

How did dh's serious chat go, Borg? Wink

Yy to wriggly babies at nappy change time.

So glad R is getting better choco.

I really ought to bake a cake for S too (a la reastie) as the frosting here is so sickly (no offence, expat). A's birthday is 3 days later though and she loves it so I might just buy one for her!

I know lots of Jacksons here, don't know that I'd want it to look like claxon though!

Have great weekends, all.

americanexpat · 21/01/2012 09:39

tad - they do like very sweet foods, don't they? Grin Last time we were there, I was Shock at how high fructose corn syrup is in everything.

blizy - "unique" spellings of a name drive me mad. Poor Jaxon is going to spend his life spelling his name.

ledkr - well done to both D and E!

Delia - can you have a look at childminders or nurseries to get a plan B in mind? As someone said, it's a huge trust violation and you're always going to be wondering if she's doing something she shouldn't. Sad Hopefully it was a one-off, DH will speak to her and it'll never happen again.

L actually slept through last night. Shock He had 7 oz of milk before bed instead of the usual 4 oz but he was never wanting feeding when he woke up before. Confused Like ledkr said, I'm not going to over-analyse it!

blizy · 21/01/2012 11:09

Huge well done to ella! And dilly if course Grin. I can't believe dilly will be 1 very soon.

Emski- hope Noah's christening goes well tomorrow.

Wiggles- glad mr w is on the men's.

Debka- yay to more space, hope the girls settle on with each other.

Dh is working today, I am supposed to be doing my tax return but after the day I had yesterday o can't concentrate. So a day of crappy tv it is. Let's just say my mum and sister have completely outdone themselves with nastiness. Angry

debka · 21/01/2012 12:40

blizy was it related to your uncle's funeral? As if you've not got enough going on without people being mean. So sorry to hear it :(

blizy · 21/01/2012 12:52

deb They are embarrassed and ashamed that I didn't go. According to my sister I should be over "it" now and think of other people. Oh and my not so dm said I have to stop using "that" as an excuse for my behaviour. I mean WTF, how dare they judge me and refer to my daughter (their grand daughter and neice) as IT and THAT! I know they said this because my big sis told me, she and bil were sticking up for me but my Dad just sat there not saying a thing.
I am so f@@@ing angry and hurt.

debka · 21/01/2012 12:58

FGS I am so upset and angry at such callous behaviour. Honestly, if they've never been through what you've been through, what right have they to judge you and your way of getting through this god awful year? Even if they HAVE been through it I still don't think anyone can judge- we all deal with things differently. I would be giving them a seriously wide berth if I were you, you and Zoe deserve better.

blizy · 21/01/2012 13:46

I just don't know what to do. I HATE confrontation so I don't want to pull them up on it.

On a different note, i have attempted to make scones and they as flat as pancakes! Any advice?

debka · 21/01/2012 16:12

Just distance yourself from them, keep them at arms length so they can't hurt you so much. :(

Re scones- did you roll them thickly enough? I roll mine at least 1.5 inches thick.

blizy · 21/01/2012 16:46

I will only be visiting my dad when I o ow she is working.

Hmm I rolled my second back quite thickly and they had risen slightly better. Think I will go back to shop bought scones! Grin

ledkr · 21/01/2012 17:24

blizy I dont know if you need affirmation of this but i am an old wise mum of 5 who has been thru many triqls and am also highly trained in many human fields. I can absolutely assure you that your grief is very justified and that they are acting like tools. As deb says distance yourself from them and dont waste time thinking about their foolish opinions. It must be lovely to go through life having never experienced real heartbreak and grief but id rather be who i am than an ignorant moron like them.I am offended on your,dh and Zoes behalf, extremely so.

reastie · 21/01/2012 18:35

blizy would your mum/sis respond if you wrote them a letter explaining how you feel and how their behaviour makes you feel and how you find it hard to explain in rl? I'm absolutely rubbish about confrontation too and it usually gets to the state where I'm making myself ill from stress before I say anything, which tbh I don't think is healthy or does me any good Hmm I hope you won't wait until it gets to the same point (or maybe it has Hmm ). You are not and have not done anything unreasonable at all. Don't think they are saying what other people think as it isn't. They have no idea from the sounds of things. Re: scones if you rolled them thickly maybe you overworked the mixture? You have to be light as a feather with scones Grin

american excellent work on the sleeping through Grin

Nothing exciting to report here. Am having a fragile day and hoping for an early night. DH is currently in the bath supervising alice crawling naked all over the bathroom floor - no screams yet so assuming there have been no poo related incidents Grin

debka · 21/01/2012 19:06

My two girlies are in the same room, tres exciting :) All quiet so far.... DH is closeted away like a bloody hermit in his new office so it's just me and the dog. I'd go for a run but it's a rest day today. Nothing on telly. Too early to go to bed, right? Grin

blizy am well jel of the scones, I make gorgeous ones after doing it every fecking day for 3 years when I worked in the restaurant, but I mustn't eat them now, stupid diet Grin

ILovePonyo · 21/01/2012 19:21

Aww deb hope the girls sleep well tonight.

blizy all I can say is that I agree with what everyone else has said, I don't know if you will ever 'get over' what has happened to you, I don;t mean that in a horrible way but Z will always be with you wont she. So what a mean thing to say - I don't know how they can justify saying that tbh?! Am very Angry on your behalf.

reastie you ok? Are you still worrying about work? Hope you get your early night.

wiggles A's haircut has resulted in an elvis quiff Shock I kept looking at it today thinking "it looks okaaaay...?" but have accepted but it doesn't and a trip to the hairdresses might be needed Blush

We have had a boring day here, food shop and thats itdp is out tonight however and I have desperate housewives to watch, woop!

blizy · 21/01/2012 19:24

Debka- don't be jealous, they have ended up in the bin. They were solid and rankConfused. Gutted, I was looking forward to a nice wee sconeGrin
