We have an outside area and a bin there, so I put the used nappies in an ice cream container, and when that fills up just walk it out to the bin - usually twice a day, or before I go out if the house is going to be closed up for a while.

CheshireDing · 09/01/2012 05:07

Well P has only woken at 3.30am but I cannot get back to sleep and DH will now be getting up in an hour and now the boiler is heating the water so making a noise. I think tonight is over.

I think it is just because I am so used to broken sleep now. This time last year I was convinced I was pregnant (even though the sticks were showing negative) and I have had rubbish sleep since that time, :(

Am now playing on the internet and listening to a baby trumping.

Engelsmeisje · 09/01/2012 07:48

I don't wear bf tops either. Just go with long sleeve top and vest top. Vest tops are getting a fair bit of stretching, but am guessing that once I stop bfing they'll be far too big anyway - had to go and buys some more bras last week. Do bf boobs never stop growing!

We don't use special nappy bags. Have a lidded bucket upstairs and downstairs chuck everthing straight in a bin bag that we keep out back (have a shed thing attched to the kitchen). May have to reconsider in the summer though and once we start on solids and things get a bit stinkier.

M just slept through the night for the first time! Gave him a dream feed at 11 after putting him down at 7.30, and then not a peep til 7.15 this morning! Hope it's not a fluke...

Got round 2 of jabs today, but M has had a bit of a snotty nose the ;ast few days (it's been bogies galore here) but not a high temp. He should still be able to have his injections though, right?

I need to start watching my mouth as I've taken to calling M "Mummy's little shitter" when we're at home and he's produced a particularly foul nappy. Not only do I not want him picking it up, but I'm worried that I'll forget when I'm out in public!

Really glad that we have bbc1 and 2 as I don't want M only seeing Dutch kids programmes. Had a friend over with her 2 year old the other day and they're struggling to get her to speak English (she goes to a Dutch daycare centre). She speaks a mix of both labguages at the same time! Guess it's a while before we have to deal with it, but am sure it'll go quickly.

GroovyRach · 09/01/2012 09:15

Well done little P and M!!! S has decided the last 2 nights to wake at 5.30am for a feed Sad. Think I'll have to give her a wee but extra now before bed and she must be hungry. She slept in her big cot last night for the first time! Was getting a bit long for moses, so it was time to change. Over Xmas while we stayed at my mums, she was in the travel cot all stretched out and seemed more comfy. Basket was starting to restrict her. She looks so small in it though!

Well my diet has def started today. Have put on 10lbs since I lost loads after birth. There is no junk in the house and I won't be buying any!!

Oh and cheshire that reminds me, one year ago today marks the start of S journey into the world!! God, can't believe it's been a year. I remember as it was the last time I seen exP. how funny!!

Sorry ladies really feel like a rant!
Dh still has "manflu" although this hasn't stopped him going to football/poker. But it does mean he can't get up with ds in the morning or help with housework he has spent pretty much the past week getting up going to work then coming home and going straight to bed I'm knackered and pissed off!!!

Ahh that feels better!

CheshireDing · 09/01/2012 12:19

Edward that sounds dog shit very unfair :(

Surely Manflu means it is too cold to be outside at footie?? Think you need to
put your foot down have a "little" chat with him.

Engels I have a friend whose DH is Bengali, their children just learnt to separate the 2 languages themselves overtime. I don't know how they do it but as long as children learn from the beginning it doesn't seem to be an issue as far as I am aware. Usually 1 language at school/with friends and one or a mixed language at home.

Odd isn't it Groovy, how things have changed. Glad I am off work now though :) Feel very lucky.

sassy34264 · 09/01/2012 14:54

engels i have 2 friends who are married to men from a different countries. one greek the other tunisian. the greek children csn speak fluently in both languages (they are 10 +7) but the tunisian children can only speak english (they are 7+ 11) the reason is that the greek dad only ever spoke greek to them, whereas the tunisian dad only spoke english.

eva slept from 6.30am til 7.30pm last night! i didnt take advantage though and only went to bed at 11.30pm. wish i had now. lee back to work after 3 weeks off and is only back sunday as he is having a leaving do on sat. it is his last week in his job and then he has 3 weeks of courses and then he is out of the navy forever...........hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CheshireDing · 09/01/2012 16:33

Con of P sleeping at night is that she has slept for 1 hour max today!! :(

Consequently I have got bugger all done, although she has received a £75 offer of compensation from the Halifax for my whinging. Result!! (I was willing to accept £25 at a push)

BB3 · 09/01/2012 20:49

Yay sassy - does he know what he wants to do post navy? Will be so nice to have home home full time x

re languages - dh only speaks to the kids in turkish. Ds is a late speaker (no idea if this is linked but suspect it is) but i'd like them to be bi-lingual.

groovy go dd on the rolling! Your pics are lovely on fb

Edward Angry at dh - mine is the same when he is sick (not that I can really complain at the moment I've had a sickness big and he had the girls last night so I could rest more).

Sorry if ive missed anyone, Hope everyone is ok - it seems impossible for us to shift sickness in this house. Ds is getting better and putting weight back on slowly, he's very clingy which I suppose I should expect - girls have third jabs tomorrow, if they're allowed them, then 4 month check with hv x

At the moment all are asleep so I'm going to hit the hay too x night

Scheherezade · 09/01/2012 21:34

Great news sassy !

First day the routine seems to have worked, he napped 12-3, and went down at 8.30, hopefully he'll have a dream feed when we go to bed, and still sleep till 7/8ish

Got a great vid will post to the fb page!

Busy times for you bb3, I doubt I'll get dressed out of jammies tomorrow! Glad to hear your boy is feeling better.

Didn't know about h&m, unfortunately I live right out in the country and rarely venture into town, but next time I'm in I'll have a look!

TallyBear · 09/01/2012 22:39

Groovy Seb has been in his cot for a week or so now. He wasn't getting too long for the moses basket but it was a bit narrow and as he loves to fling his arms around while he is getting to sleep he kept hitting the side. I've kept him at the bottom of the cot (not sure if he still needs to be feet to foot if he is in a sleeping bag) and hang muslins over the sides and end so it feels a bit more cosy than him being able to see through the 'bars' into a big room. Not sure if it helps but they are handy when he's sick! We are also lazy and put a muslin under his head so we don't need to change the sheet every time he is a bit sick in the night! Blush

Yeah for all the babies sleeping longer. Smile Seb has gone 6 hours the past few nights. Even though he wakes about 3 or 4am apparently this officially counts as sleeping through the night!

Wow my tummy's big. Put on about 3lb since xmas Sad Still not even started on the xmas cake and stollen and got loads of choc in the fridge....!

SconesForTea · 09/01/2012 23:38

Hi everyone, I haven't been on the thread since DD2 was newborn, just can't find the time to read let alone post. I've just about managed to catch up. I can't comment on everyone's posts due to severe Babybrain but BB3 hope DS is better and bilblio how awful getting burgled.

DD2 is 9w now and we're in no routine whatsoever Grin I was a bit obsessed with logging DD1's feeds, naps etc and this time I'm just going with the flow. She is a much more relaxed baby and i'm a much more relaxed mother this time - who's to say which is chicken and which is egg?

My only real complaint is that she absolutely refuses to take a bottle. She did a couple of times pre Christmas, but has since screamed and refused whenever I've tried. Does anyone have any experience of this, or can give any hints that might help...? She won't take a dummy either but that doesn't bother me so much (from being 100% anti-dummy when pg, I am now very pro-dummy, having seen how it calms my fractious toddler in any number if situations!).

Re gap between DCs - there are 20m between mine and i found the latter half of pg exhausting beyond belief. Less tired now with a baby. It is very hard work with 2 very dependent DCs (I don't know how you do it sassy!) and the 2 lots of nappies is a pain bug then i'm using cloth so they have to be changed more often. Everyone tells me it will be easier when they're older and playing together and I do hope so! .

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 09/01/2012 23:48

Here here on the nappies I worked out the other day that I'm spending around £70 per month on nappies :-O will definitely potty train ds next week before I go bankrupt
For some reason I'm now terrified of potty training but I've just realised if I don't do it now ill have to tackle weaning and potty training at the same time now that would be parenting hell!!

Scheherezade · 10/01/2012 08:19

Cyrus woke twice last night. Am shattered!

GroovyRach · 10/01/2012 08:49

Do you think our babies are all plotting together sch? S awake again for 3rd night running at 5,30am! Managed just to get her back over by putting dummy back in a few times! Little monkey Smile

MrsHende · 10/01/2012 09:02

Scones, I'd love some advice about using a bottle too! Lizzie is EBF and I expressed a bottle before Christmas but she wouldn't take it. I'm now keen to try again - any advice about expressing and using bottles welcome!!

Engelsmeisje · 10/01/2012 09:26

M is in on the conspiracy too groovy! After a perfect Sunday night, he was up at 2 and 4 last night.

M was really antsy after his injections. Not happy at all - has developed a new (heartbreaking) shrieking cry Sad

Welcome back scones. One of my colleague had the same problem with LO taking bottles. She just had to persevere: trying when LO was calm, or inserting a bottle mid-feed. She tried loads of different bottles/teats before her LO would take it.

I must build up my supply of EBM. DH has Thursdays off from now and I want him to get used to being in charge of feeding for the day(and I also want to slope off and have fun!).

Thanks for the language anecdotes. DH and I have agreed that I will speak English, he will speak Dutch to LO, but that we'll keep speaking English to each other. I just know we're going to get stick from the ILs (who think we will irreparably damage our child by speaking English to each other). Actually one good thing about going back to work will be to bring my Ducth level back up. 4 months of being at home and spending time on mumsnet and it's really taken a step backwards.

Scheherezade · 10/01/2012 10:15

Welcome back scones !

Is it the start of the dreaded 4 month growth spurt perhaps? Though to be fair, up until the last might C has stayed with us downstairs

Scheherezade · 10/01/2012 10:19

Bloody phone! I meant to say until we'be gone up to bed, so it was a lot earlier than he's used to. But he's 16 weeks on Saturday....

After exclusively expressing the first 8 weeks I never want to look at a pump for the rest of my life!

sassy34264 · 10/01/2012 10:24

welcome back scones it definately helps to be extremely laid back and to have relatively good kids.

edward i dont spend that and i have 3 kids. what brand are you using? i buy aldi's \asda/ tesco brands, and unless they've pooed or are quite wet, i dont change them. i think some people have set times a day when they change. never understood that. i think i prob spend about £40-£50 a month.
from my experience of bottles, it is just a matter of maturity. it is a different suck for the bottle than the breast. also it can help if someone other than you gives them, as they prefer breast and know you're the breast person.
im about to start expressing and ive never done it before. any tips on when the best time is to do it? i dont want mine everyday, it would just be for a couple of times a week when i want to go biking etc, so i dont want to upset my normal milk supply and i suppose i just want to have a constant back up in the freezer for when i am invited somewhere, instead of having to say no.

MamaMaiasaura · 10/01/2012 10:30

Yup babies conspiring. Jessica had me up last 2 nights. Last night was 2,30 then 4.30 and wouldn't settle till 6 she wanted to chat away. After bring used to her going from 11 till 6/7 it's a shock to system. She 11 and half weeks. Is this growth spurt time?

I was a right cow ds1&2 this morning Blush

MamaMaiasaura · 10/01/2012 10:35

Re bottles/dummies ds1 wouldn't take either but did suck thumb, I'd got steriliser, bottles pump and he had none of it..

Ds2 never even tried either as 8 years between boys and had go rid of all equipment. As we managed without before and I'm sahm we didn't bother. He didn't suck thumb. He did bfeed for a looooong time.

Jessica - not going to introduce bottle or dummy. She is a sucker and has found fist/thumb/muzzy

Scheherezade · 10/01/2012 11:17

C not interested in dummy, not found thumb yet, but loves a soft material toy blanket type thing, it managed to get him asleep this morning after being put down awake.

MamaMaiasaura · 10/01/2012 11:18

Scheherazade - clever baby Smile I've never mastered that with my babies.

GroovyRach · 10/01/2012 11:26

perhaps is the start of the 4 month growth spurt. S is only just 15 weeks this fri so maybe a little early. she isnt really waking up fully, more just disturbed and fussing. i did get up the other night to feed her after the tossing around went on for 40 mins, by which time she was awake! last night i was just giving her dummy back which seemed to work.

S only really takes a dummy when sleeping but is now also snuggling with a taggie blanket that my friend bought for her. its nice and fleecy and she holds it up to her face. also likes to play with her hair/ear till she is sleeping :)

having a quite day in the house. im off to the gym tonight for the first time since before xmas. dreading it slightly but needs must. had a good day food wise yesterday. lots of veg etc and no junk at all. once i have one good day, im back on it no bother. just keep thinking of the bridesmaid dress i'll be wearing in april to my best friends wedding and how i want to get some lovely photos of me and S together :) i will do it

right, baba is due to wake shortly for her nap so must hang the washing up quick. be back later
