Okay so just to clarify (because I am being dim) does the baby end up in between the vest top and jumper (for example)? I am sooo bored of wearing the same tops so definitely need to figure out something more exciting.

I have sometimes just worn normal tops but that is when I am not going anywhere so it does not matter about getting my boob out.

We are going for a curry tonight though with a bunch of friends as one of them is emigrating so I have been trying to build up a stash of expressed milk this week. I don't fancy getting my boob out in front of male friends Hmm. Just thrown a hand expressed 1.25oz down the sink by accident :( :( I can't be bothered doing any more now so hopefully we have enough already.

GroovyRach · 07/01/2012 11:12

Imagine a vest top then t shirt on top of that. Lift t shirt up and pull vest top down from neck line. Boob just sticks through gap so to speak. Your top half is still covered by t shirt over top (and resting perhaps in baby's head/face and your tummy is still covered by vest as your only just pulling down enough to fit boob through to feed.

Sad about throwing away expressed. It's heartbreaking!!! Have fun tonight!

I'm off for a nice long walk to clear the cobwebs and my head! Gonna try S in sling for first time properly. Had a wee walk round house and she seemed happy in it facing forward rather than tummy to tummy with me. Think her view is more restricted that way and she is having to turn head right round to see anything! Nosey girl Grin

I bought some things called belly bands from the nct website which are basically like the bottom half of a vest top. So you can wear any top you like over it and when you lift it up your tummy is still covered.

MrsHende · 07/01/2012 12:10

H+M do feeding tops, in the maternity clothes dept - I've lived in them since Lizzie arrived! Otherwise I put a strappy vest top on under the top I'm wearing and pull the top up and vest down...that way keeping my flabby tum out of view and out of the cold!!

MamaMaiasaura · 07/01/2012 15:25

Just got couple more h&m tops. I do vest under other tops or boob tube which is easier to shove down as I have big boobs. Blush

Missed so much of thread again. Sorry to hear about ds bb3 glad he's on mend.

Sad for break in bilb it's awful what peope do.

Still here, finding it hard keeping up with RL so only lurk on this thread. Happy new year everyone xx

MrsHende · 07/01/2012 18:16

Has anyone got/seen nice feeding tops from anywhere other than H+M? I do love mine but they are all very similar.

Lizzie and I are going on our first night out tonight! Over to a friend's for a curry - can't wait!! Hair done, nail polish on, and a pair of sparkly shoes, I was beginning to think I'd never get dressed up again.

Scheherezade · 07/01/2012 19:50

Oh my god, Cyrus is practically twisting in half to watch the tv! He's a couch slob already!

GroovyRach · 07/01/2012 20:39

S does that too sch!! I usually have the tv on most of the time just as 'background' noise. She twists her head in every way to try see! I think it's just all the movement and colours that attract her. Funny tho!!

Scheherezade · 07/01/2012 20:51

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one, was prepared for a lynching! We always.have tv or radio on, he particularly loves midsomer murders, I think its the close up of the faces!

Penelope1980 · 07/01/2012 22:39

A has starting watching TV too! We are trying to stop him by putting objects between him and the TV, but feel that unless we watch a lot less ourselves, it's a battle we are going to lose. Not sure what age I'd put on actual kids tv for him then, what do most people do?

I miss H&M, we don't have that in NZ Sad I bougth 3 feeding tops online that I wore all the time at first, but as time passes am wearing them less unless I am going somewhere that I know I'll be shy to feed him. It's a local website though so probably not much use to you all

sassy34264 · 07/01/2012 23:43

no lynching here. after ive fed eva and winded her, i'll put her down in her bouncy chair and sometimes i deliberately turn it to face the tv! i know she likes the lights from it and it gives me chance to change\feed\play with the twins.
tv is not the baddie imo, its just that some parents dont talk or play with their kids and leave them in front of the tv instead. dp told me a couple of months ago that he saw a woman being interviewed on a programme (prob jeremy kyle!) and she said that she doesnt talk to her kid cos the kid doesnt talk to her! wtf!
my eldest dd1 is the youngest in her year (aug 30th) and children born at this time are supposed to struggle, as they are almost a year younger than half the class, but she still got above the nat average in her sats and is in top set at high school. and she watched tv when she was little. Grin

CheshireDing · 08/01/2012 00:05

Ha ha I am glad you have said that about your DD Sassy because P has tried to watch the TV a few times and I have turned it off in a panicky freakout as I read some American research had been done which said they should not watch TV before they are at least 2 years old. I have tried to tell P this but she ignores me and tries to turn her head like an owl to watch Ab Fab ;)

Thanks for the comments re the top layering, going to try it tomorrow :)

strawberrypenguin · 08/01/2012 05:59

Another one who likes the TV here, as others have said I think it's the lights and movement because the Christmas tree lights were also a big hit!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 08/01/2012 07:15

I also agree re tv being a good tool! And *sassy's" comments re it's not the tv but how you use it. I'm not very creative so I watch one of ds cartoons with him then use the storylines to act out with him and his toys. I do sometimes let him watch without me to let me deal with M or do some housework.

Did my zumba DVD this morning that's me officially started yay!!

GroovyRach · 08/01/2012 15:09

It's amazing the changes in just a few days. Last sun S couldn't even really lift her head up much while on tummy. Now she is pushing herself clean up off the floor!! Also rolled herself from her back onto her side. That's my girl GrinGrinGrinGrin

Thanks everyone for messages re: formula. Since adding some to feed before bed we've had a week of really good sleep culminating in six hrs last night and he only woke as I had to feed him as my boobs were leaking everywhere, he then went back to sleep until I woke him at 9am! Amazing GrinGrinGrin

MrsHende · 08/01/2012 18:15

Ladies, I've got a problem! My house is beginning to smell like stinky nappies! Blush

Which nappy bags do you all use? We have the Boots ones (100 for 50p!) which claim to be fragranced but aren't really doing the trick!!

Thank you in advance for your help with our smelly problem! Wink

MrsHende · 08/01/2012 18:17

P.S. Well done Groovy's S! Love the pic on Facebook Smile.

And well done Pebble! The world is a much brighter place after a night's sleep Smile.

CheshireDing · 08/01/2012 18:28

Wonderful news Pebble :)

We are on our third night of P only waking once in the night and yes I have had massive boobs that have leaked everywhere because she was waking every hour because of her cold prior to that.

Here's crossing my fingers for you that it continues (the sleep that is not the massive boobs!).

Well done baby S, clever girl :)

I don't know MrsH we just use a variety of cheap ones and we put a few nappies in each, i.e. it stays on the change mat throughout the day so I probably get 3 or 4 naps in it before tieing it, then I chuck it in the bin. I have not noticed any smell so far though. You have me worried that maybe I have become immune to baby poo smell Hmm. Our friend has some kind of nappy dispenser/squidger thing.

GroovyRach · 08/01/2012 19:34

A family I used to work for at the start of last year had a little boy of around 2 who was still in nappies. They lived in a top floor flat and had one of those nappy wrapper bins. When it was full tho, instead of taking the full bin (of stinky nappies!) down to the bin outside, they would put the full bin bag into a cupboard in the hall and take them all down every fortnight when the main bins would be emptied Confused. I was very early preg then and morning sickness was hitting big time. I used to have to hold my breath walking past it. I have no clue how they never smelled it!!! I tend just to chuck them into a cheapy nappy bag them into bin in kitchen. It's usually emptied every few days. Can't say I've noticed a smell... yet! Lol

Good on these babies sleeping better!! Long may it continue Smile

I can't ever seem to find tops for breastfeeding, they all seem to be maternity ones which look.stupid as I've not got a big bump anymore. It doesn't make sense, you need a breastfeeding top so you've obviously had the baby and don't need maternity clothes anymore! I can only think that it benefits mums who are pregnant and still breastfeeding an older child, who can't be as common as mums who have had their baby and want to breastfeed them now they're back to a normal shape! In fact I may send an email to that effect to mothercare

CheshireDing · 08/01/2012 19:49

Ooh do you think that is why they are baggy round the middle Scheh for pregnant Mums who are bf another baby? Like you said there cannot be that many of them though. I would just like bf tops that were fitted round the tum as I am a short arse and otherwise look fat.

Did try vest and then fleece today though which was ok actually. Better go, being called for feeding, again!!!! Think we are on a growth spurt.

bilblio · 08/01/2012 19:59

MrsH no nappy bags here except when we go out. I can't bear the thought of putting yet more plastic into landfill. We just wrap the nappy up and put it straight in the wheelie bin. The ones for when we're out are tescos degradable ones. Useful more for his clothes than his nappies. Personally I find the nappy bags smell horrible but the poo is okay. That will change once it's not just breastmilk. :)

When DD was born I used to watch lots of the history channel or news. DH likes food programmes, so we have videos of her on her 1st birthday dancing to her favourite music at the time, the Heston Blumenthal theme tune. :o
Unfortunately when I went back to work DH introduced her to cbeebies. To all first timers, my advice is deny kids TV exists for as long as you can!

It doesn't seem to have harmed her though she's doing really well with her reading, and she's fantastic on the PC... a little too good (our computer runs through the TV so we only really watch things online.)

My tone of voice changes when I speak to S, but I seem to have stopped it with DD. We occasionally use baby speak but we talk to DD as we would anyone else, we just explain again with simpler language when she looks confused. I talk to her about grown up things too when I can get away with it. When we drive to my parents she'll ask me to tell her a story about princesses. Last time I told her about Mary Queen of Scots. :o We can normally do half the journey before she's demanding "proper" princesses like Sleeping Beauty.
She's got a fantastic memory so she'll often ask questions about my stories months later, and completely confuse people. :o

Scheherezade · 08/01/2012 20:48

Haha, just realised I went on a bit of a rant there! I think.they're for new mums, to see through pregnancy and early nursing, but you'd think they'd realise a lot of mums breastfeed past the first week! I'm quite hourglass figure (I.e. big bum) so need.tops that fit at the waist! When I lift top up I usually manage to hide tum by my arms as I hold him, or you could always shove the muslin cloth there?

MrsHende · 08/01/2012 22:50

Scheh have you tried the H+M ones? Quite fitted, thick jersey material in long or short sleeves. Just now they have black, White, grey striped or navy striped. They're in the maternity clothes dept in my local shop but are not baggy!
