We're with Tesco for the car, legal and general for the house. One of the frustrating things is i'm not sure if I left my ipod in the car or if it was with my purse and keys. I told the insurance it was in my car, them found out i'm not covered so if I now tell them I don't know it looks like I'm lying.

Please check things like your pram are covered.

Engelsmeisje · 05/01/2012 08:08

That's rubbish bilblio. Think you need a Wine.

Reckon you need one too Fleecy Wine. (though perhaps not to be combined with paracetamol Wink)

Penelope1980 · 05/01/2012 09:14

I've been on holiday for a while, just home now and am totally behind on the thread! Sounds like a lot of you have a lot going on.

bb3 hope you son is better soon!

Groovy I don't know Amsterdam that well but went there myself a few years ago, and the advice I wish I'd taken was to stay a little further from the red light area than we did. The city is pretty small and easy to walk, so don't get hung up on staying central if you want to save some money.

Writing that really makes me want to go on a non-family visiting holiday. Maybe this year, although have no idea where to go with a baby.

bilbio that's awful

I am trying to start a stricter routine now for the evenings, day one went well, but no idea how it will pan out in terms of how often he wakes at night and whether we can keep it up. Being on holiday made me realise that I really want to reclaim my evenings and get A used to going down without me (which he had always done).

sassy34264 · 05/01/2012 10:14

groovy i always use virtual tourist as well as trip advisor to look up stuff about my hols. vt gives you things like- areas to avoid, off the beaten track etc.

bilbilo big hugs to you. x

BB3 · 05/01/2012 10:16

Hello ladies

We are home!!! Grin he's still not really well enough but we decided (with hospital) that the hospital and drs are upsetting him too much (his obs would be stable until a dr walked in the room then they'd drip right down!). And he managed 24 hours without regular oxygen so as long as we monitor him and keep up medication he can be home! Yay

Bilblio - One of my clients is an insurance company and we deal with a lot of customer issues I'd say it's worth writing and email to their complaints department really over stressing the situation they've put you in. Out of home cover

BB3 · 05/01/2012 10:18

Pressed send too soon - ooh cover normally covers things like laptops etc but I think they're being slightly over zealous on things like the pram. CDs etc fine but not that.. Play up how you're left unable to provide for your new born child and they might cave as it's only a few hundred pounds x I don't know what your chances are, depends who picks up the email x

BB3 · 05/01/2012 10:21

Penelope my mum has had the twins for three days and seems to have got then into a routine Confused! Do she's done the hard work for me! Grin

Groovy - probably too late but don't let the clothes dry if you can. If you keep them soaked the colour shouldn't set x

sassy34264 · 05/01/2012 10:24

penelope eva still goes down with me and she has only fell asleep twice herself in her cot. she falls asleep herself throughout the day downstairs either in her bouncy chair or lying on the couch, but bedtimes are a different matter. it was the same with the twins, it takes a while to just be able to take them upstairs, plonk them in the cot and go back downstairs and expect them to just go to sleep, imo.
im just starting to leave her crying for a bit. i dont do the controlled crying very much, cos i think they actually end up crying for longer than if you didnt. but i do it probably once or twice. so i'll put them in bed, let them cry a bit, then go up, pick them up, rub their back a bit and then put them down again. i might do it one more time, but after that i would leave them. you do really need to know the difference between a moany cry and a distressed cry though and i wouldnt do it yet as she is a bit young.

umph

was feeling good that the babies are dressed, dd1 went off to school after christmas hols today with fresh ironed uniform, sandwiches (usually end up giving her money as no time for sandwiches) and ive done every little bit of my bulging ironing pile. but just realised that every single room in the whole house is an absolute tip! 2 receptions and 3 beds, the kitchen (groan- is being painted) and even the bathroom has washhing all over the floor! help- im drowning in housework!!!!!

CheshireDing · 05/01/2012 10:34

Bilblio I second what BB3 says definitely complain, it's worth drafting a letter and if they reject it go to the Ombudsman. It's only a bit of form filling for the Ombudsman but it's worth trying.

DH and I were discussing weaning yesterday actually, DH is a Nurse and he said as someone on here said (sorry can't remember who) that research changes all the time, in another 10 years it will be different again. It used to be 4 months, then it changed to 5 months, then 6 months. By the time our babies have babies it will have changed God knows how many times. A MW DH works with said it's good to sit them in their high chair (once they are big enough) at the table when you have your meal and eventually they will probably start to take an interest in the food, even if it's just to squish and play with it at first.

Does anyone have a baby/child who is allergic? I am wondering if P is allergic to the dog or cat (DH is allergic to some cats) as her cold is still hanging around and will be 4 weeks tomorrow - which seems ridiculous. Although she is clearly coping with it better and is feeding better now. I am wondering how you were able to tell if your child was allergic, or will I have to wait years?? She has stroked the cat and not come out in any rash or anything, it's just the cold which is making me wonder.

Last night P only woke at 4am, then 7.30am. So proud of her :)

TallyBear · 05/01/2012 11:48

Bilblio how awful, insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying up. I agree it's worth pursuing.

Girls it's also worth checking that your insurance company knows about the new baby (first timers). Our home insurance was due about 3 weeks before Seb was due and I mentioned it when I phoned to insure, thinking that we might get a reduction as the house would be occupied during the day for 10 months, but instead they consider children a 'risk' and he ended up costing us another £17 a year!!

Quick story to share with you...feeding last night, 1am, I was thinking that Seb hadn't been sick much recently (fatal). Seb finished and was sitting up when suddenly his mouth opened and what seemed like the whole contents of the bottle spewed out! It saturated the muslin, his clothes and my pjs. He promptly went to sleep! I sat there for a minute not knowing what to do (do I still hold him upright for 20 mins to stop him being sick?!).

GroovyRach · 05/01/2012 11:51

cheshire have you seen doc about the fact that she has had cold for that long now? Seems possible that it could be an allergy etc. I wouldn't expect a cold to last 4 wks. Longest S has had one has been about a week. Usually 3 days or so really blocked but then eases up. Congrats on the sleeping, well done P!! Grin

bb3 glad ur home with ds and well done gran for getting girls into routine!! Lol

Thanks for all suggestions with Amsterdam. Me and friends went through it all last night and have decided to go to Dublin instead. Much cheaper with flights and hotel plus we can go for just 2 nights. With Amsterdam is was workin out 3 nights and I wasn't so sure about being away from S that long Confused. Hopefully book this afternoon!

Clothes are all in machine as we speak with cookout run. Fingers crossed it works! Left them all soaking in the bath so hoping its worked and I've not ruined a whole load of new clothes Angry!

bb3 pleased that your ds is home. wishing for a speedy recovery for him. you might find it happens quicker than if he was in the hospital, if the hospital was so distressing for him. poor mite. x

cheshire mine can have runny noses for longer than a week- but 5 is a bit excessive. i find that they can have runny noses, when they have kicked their covers off at night, or if they're not warm enough. might that be it?

tally i know its very controversial but i hate mine lying on their back. i put eva on her side from day 1 in the hospital, after she sicked up and nearly chocked on it. i think the twins were on their sides for a few weeks before they were on their fronts. they sleep better on their fronts too because it eases wind. i used to only put chloe on her front to sleep when i was awake and not at night,. but ive got more lapse with it every pregnancy. i wouldnt advise it, for obvious reasons but i personally would put them on their side if they are being sick. i use a rolled up blanket to prop their back up.

i had a horrible 2nd night in the hospital with the twins, because jacob had reflux and choked on it so bad that his face went purple and i buzzed the mw, who literally snatched him off me and took him to resus to put the mask on him. (i only found out a few days later when i saw my notes) i couldnt sleep a wink all night worrying. and its made me very scared of letting them sleep on their backs. it also has the added bonus of giving them all round heads Grin no flat heads in this house.

but i dont advocate it cos i know it has helped to reduce cot death. again, its just my personal choice.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/01/2012 13:10

Not all the way caught up yet but Cheshire my ds still has a touch of the cold he's now going 4 weeks but not nearly as bad as it was at the beginning, and DH has now had it 2 weeks, I think maybe it's just a really hard one to shake this yr. But if ur concerned I'd go to doc.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/01/2012 13:16

sassy both of mine slept/sleep their sides too with ds I always panicked and put him on his back but he always rolled to his side by himself I eventually gave up and left him to it. With M she sort of lies on her back but she always turns her head to the side.

Scheherezade · 05/01/2012 13:19

Oh tally that's disgusting!

Bilblio-new year new start!

Spent half an hour trying to get Cyrus to nap in his cot, he would scream as soon as I tried to put him down from sheer.rage, then when I picked him up he'd promptly fall asleep in my arms, about 20 times! Eventually he went off, (fromsheer exhaustion no.doubt) and has been out for over an hour and a half now, should I wake him? It took 2 hours to put him down last night, and he only did 6-7 hours.

CheshireDing · 05/01/2012 15:21

So pleased your DS is home now BB3 :) :)

Tally how come they never give any warning for the projectile vomiting!!?Funny how they can fall asleep straight away when it suits them too! Grin

P is in a grobag now Sassy and she is always toasty so I presume she is not cold, we started using a spa type thing last night too so maybe that's helping a bit . I am obviously hoping she is not allergic but it seems a bit odd, she seems a lot better though in the daytime too so then I think she would sound snotty all the type if it was the cat/dog, I guess ??

She has gone for her second set of jabs today with DH so hopefully she will still sleep well tonight :)

Did anyone watch "One Born" last night? I don't know why but it gave me the fear watching it, which is very odd considering we were having a home birth. I can only presume it was the hospital part of the programme but honestly I don't think I will watch it again next week (always used to watch it before P was born too).

strawberrypenguin · 05/01/2012 16:24

Tally it's so shocking when they do the massive vomiting thing isn't it, W has done it a grand total of 3 times and every time I've been more shocked than he has!

W is wearing 3-6 month clothes for the first time today, I don't know if I should Grin at my big gorgeous boy or Sad that he's growing so fast

Scheherezade · 05/01/2012 17:57

14lbs 8oz! He's slept all day bar waking for feeds, so am prepared for a hellish night.

TallyBear · 05/01/2012 18:40

Sassy how scary. I admit I've worried about that but Seb tends to turn his head to one side so it dribbles down his shoulder. That is why we tend to keep him upright for about 20 mins after feeding - hoping gravity keeps the milk down long enough for it to stay down! He's had a sicky day and gone through so many outfits. I had a lovely one on him this afternoon ready to go out; it was on for 20 mins!!

BB3 so glad your ds is out and on the mend.

Cheshire I watched OBEM last night for the first time in about 2 years.. So much more fun/interesting now I know I've done that!

strawberry Seb will be in 3-6 soon. I will be sad to see some of the 0-3 go. Need to get the camera out to take pics of them. Some of the sizes are so variable though. Got some 0-3 Pumpkin Patch trousers that only just fit.

Sch I've thought that in the past and it's been OK. Some days they are just sleepy.

LittlePebble · 05/01/2012 21:44

So pleased ds is back home BB3
bilblio sorry to hear about your insurance Sad
groovy xp is a prize t**t for missing these amazing first weeks and she's so gorgeous how can he have seen her once and not been besotted with those eyes!
cheshire yay for sleep.

E was weighed yesterday at 11.3 wks and weighed 16lbs 4 oz. He's a giant baby he's nearly grown out of some 3-6 month stuff! We've caved in last two nights and added 3 oz formula to the bottle of breastmilk he gets in the evening as he was just hungry and not sleeping. He's now having both breasts all evening, and a 6oz bottle of half bm and half f and he's lasting 3.5-4 hrs between feeds and going down before 11 so I'm finally getting a bit of sleep. I've been feeling rubbish though as I feel like I've failed Sad but he seems happier for getting sleep too.

Our doctor told me on 6 week check that we should give him baby rice at 16wks because of his size. Confused

Scheherezade · 05/01/2012 22:46

Little-. That's a big baby! But the bottle doesn't sound overly large, they need more bm than formula as its thinner, when Cyrus was only 8lbs he would be having 6-8 oz every. 3 hours, and after feeding.all evening its likely you're pretty empty and he's not getting anything out, just sucking on empty breast. That's the trouble I have with Cyrus, he was born 6lbs 13oz at 36weeks,.so would have been a big baby had he gone full term! I give him one big bottle of formula.at 10/11pm, to.give my boobs.chance to replenish for morning.

Scheherezade · 05/01/2012 22:48

Sorry for random '.' everywhere, posting on phone!

Scheherezade · 05/01/2012 22:53

Little, I really struggled to give him.formula at first, but reconciled it by thinking that the.formula maybe contained some vitamins/minerals/type stuff that was maybe lacking from my milk, down to my diet etc,.and its just one feed, he's still getting all the goodness of bm.
