Hi All, I thought I'd start a new 2006 thread for the October 2004 Mummies and Babies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
biglips · 21/09/2006 21:18

awww well done Alfie! Yes she was fine as let out a cry (i didnt know whether it was her or me!!! ) but i know my tummy did a somersault though! Once she had it done she was telling everyone in the waiting room she got a sore leg and was carryin it around with her

prettymum · 21/09/2006 21:37

hi i havent posted here for a while, dd went for her mmr and the new one on tuesday and she did not even flinch!! i was soo proud of her!!

shes starting to reach the terrible twos, she doesnt like sharing with any other kids anymore!! she throws more tantrums but she is still lovely and getting soo big!

geogteach · 21/09/2006 22:09

Sorry Maisie definately wasn't me on float suits, geog has arm bands or discs.
His bob obsession is such that bob toys are definately the way to go on the birthday front.
He currently has a thing about his pyjammas, screamed for 40 minutes because I got him dressed the other day and another time he insisted on getting changed for his afternoon nap and in order to avoid a show down I let him wear them to pick DS1 up from school

biglips · 21/09/2006 22:11

prettymum - she only just started the terrible twos!!!!!!!!!!!!!! blimey youre lucky as mine started hers when she was 11 mths old!!! ..i just ignore her most of the time she is going into one or give one warning and if she does it again then its bed - no toys - for 2 mins - its works for me

biglips · 21/09/2006 22:14

blimey i just done a conversion of how many feets is my dd is her height and once she is 91cm tall she is 3 foot tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maisiemog · 23/09/2006 13:39

Tweenie is certainly a big girl. What size clothes is she in? Are you having to buy her a lot of new clothes and shoes?
It's funny my mum can still sneak Alfie into softplay for free by telling them that he's 18 months and they believe her. I think the baldness helps, but he still is a little tot.
I looked into the float suit option and it's the most expensive, the arm discs look quite good and a cheaper option. Maybe one for the birthday list.
Oh and do all the babies wear wellies? I am struggling to find a nice pair of plain wellies.
Oooh it's the MMR on Monday, hope it's OK.
What time are the babies going to bed these days and are they all still having naps??

OP posts:
prettymum · 23/09/2006 13:45

dd is currently having a nap, so is ds so enjoying peace and quiet!! she normally has one around 12 for an hour or 2 and goes bed at 8.

geogteach · 23/09/2006 18:58

Geog has postman pat wellies, I believe wellies are an ideal recyclable so I think they've been worn by at least 4 others before him.
He still naps which is great cos my others didn't at this age, couple of hours most afternoons and bed 7-7.

maisiemog · 23/09/2006 23:32

That is very regular of LittleGeog, what a good boy. .
Alfie has been waking up during the night for the past few nights, he is getting two teeth: upper and lower canine teeth, so it must be a bit annoying.
His Granny and Grandad came to up from the Borders and they are on the case looking for the wellies - must be red or black.

OP posts:
maisiemog · 25/09/2006 18:24

Right, he had the MMR and it was OK. It was really quick, he did get a shock, but I clapped immediately and told him he was a clever boy, so he was a bit confused 'Am I? I am? What's going on?'
'Yay, I'm clever, my leg hurts a bit, what's that over there.....?' it was like that.
We had to stay in the waiting room for ten minutes, which involved Alfie running up and down the corridor laughing, whilst I chased him and tried to prevent him from running out of the front door.
The nurse attempted to weigh him, but she couldn't get him to stand still at all. She thought it was somewhere around 12Kg, which means he is still around 25th centile, which is what he was a year ago.
How do you get Tweenie to stand still for weighing Biglips, Alfie kept wiggling the whole time.
My dad met me afterwards and he told me Alfie would be a late developer. (As he is a paediatric expert Not!) Anyway he reckons the boys on his side of the family are all late developers. Apparently he was the smallest boy in his class for years then shot up to over 6 feet when he was 16 or 17. And my brother was the same then grew to six feet three inches when he was 16. So Alfie will be like Dudley Moore then overnight turn into Jaws from James Bond.
Have any of the babies had their eyes checked.
Oh which reminds my Jbad??? Are you there???
I'm wondering how Tobes is getting on.

OP posts:
geogteach · 25/09/2006 20:06

For eyes (unless there is a problem) they don't check till 4 as it difficult to get an accurate result. When DS1 had his he totally failed, consultant looked at his eyes said result was inconsistent, went back about a month later and he passed. Just as well really not sure hearing aids and glasses is a great look for a 4 year old.

maisiemog · 25/09/2006 21:57

What about being bald at 4, which is Alfie's plan.
We had a reminder to take Alf for an eye check because he may have an inherited squint. It's not really noticable unless he is tired when you sometimes notice a bit of a wonk when he is focussing close up. DP's two brothers both needed corrective surgery for squints, so ...
I was looking at the red book and, if Alf is 12 Kg ish, then he may be quite close to the 50th centile for his age. Which is quite good going for a baby who was 9th centile in weight.
Is Tweenie about 19kg Biglips?
I only have the boy's chart in my book, but that's well over 98th centile for a two year old boy, so she's going to be biffing those boys up.

OP posts:
biglips · 26/09/2006 21:23

maisie - tweenie is exactly 16.2kg which is on the 99.6th centile and her height is 90.05cm (91cm is 3 foot!!) so she come away from the 98th centile and is now 91st centile

When i was expecting she was always in the 98th centile so i always knew i have a big baby as i was all baby till on the last 3 weeks and started to get water across my belly - only a small amount.

Tweenie half sister (Dp's DD) is 7 and is the tallest in her class as always, but i met SD when she was same age as Tweenie and SD was abit smaller and her hand was abit smaller too.

im 5 8 and Dp is 6 ft. his 2 sisters are 6 ft, my brother is 5 10 but my great grandfather was 6 7 and my cousin who is 13 is 6ft and plus his sister is 6 1....so we are all very tall anyway.

Tweenie shoe size is 7F - her shoes are getting abit small. Her clothes size - she can fit in a 2 -3 yrs old clothes but better in 3 -4 yrs old adn can fit in a small size 5....

How we managed to weigh tweenie was luck as she was wriggling in the weighing chair so she stood on the electronic weighing scales in the end and managed to get it done

Tweenie had improved alot on her words but the only sentences that she can say is "Open this gate!!" (her safety gate - cheek!!) and "got to shut this gate"...she mainly uses single words but only a few she can pronounce it perfectly or otherwise its baby babble or not a perfect word eg "Dummy" she say "Dunny" etc (Dummy on her dolly that is as she doesnt have one and never had too and she doesnt suck her thumb either)

im surely that Tweenie got a straight afro!! as its going thicker and thicker but not growing downward!!! hhmmm!! still no haircut yet.

and here is the list of tweenies fave progs/films

  1. Star Wars - all of them!
  2. War of the Worlds - tom cruise one
  3. Shrek ("Feck" )
  4. Teletubbies
  5. fimbles ("Mimbles")
  6. Something Special
  7. and any signing programmes as she signs quite alot too
biglips · 26/09/2006 21:24

oh and she got 2 foot to catch up with my mum my mum was in shock!..she is only 5 foot tall

maisiemog · 27/09/2006 00:40

Oops, I didn't work out that weight very well. . My mental arithmetic ie awful these days.
Wow at your grandfather 6 feet 7 inches!!
My cousin John is over 6 feet 4 inches, at 22. My family is a mixture of tall people and small people as well.Does Tweenie like the Tweenies?
Did you find the MMR affected Tweenie the next day? Alfie has been good natured today, but was up from aroung 7:30 and was still up (no nap) at 10pm, he just didn't seem to be able to settle. He fell asleep at 5pm, but I woke him up so he could eat his dinner. I don't know if it's teething or the MMR.
I took Alfie back to the HV today (or the fishwife, as we call her) because I forgot Alfie's red book yesterday. So she had another attempt at weighing him. He was so tired that he just sat on the baby scale and weighed 12.26 Kg, so she worked out that he was on the 50th centile exactly for weight. Then she attempted to measure his height (very tricky) and he was 83cm, which is 25th centile - I thought he seemed like a tiny tot.
I think children are supposed to be around about the same centile for height and weight, but Alfie is very muscley, with no obvious fat, so he weighs heavier than he looks.
A woman at the surgery today picked him up and said 'Oh he looks like a skinny wee laddie, but he's awfy heavy'.
Apparently they have stopped the two year check now, there are no more checks at all.
Do any of the babies have two year checks?

OP posts:
biglips · 27/09/2006 20:01

oh yes (oops!) i forgotton about Tweenies ...

i didnt know that the 2 year check had stopped as i havent been notified about it.. better chase it up this week to see what wha and ill let you know

MMR didnt affect her at all...only the new jab one did as she had a red imflammed leg and a hard boil where the needle went in but it all went 4 days later..

Same with Tweenie as HV said that she is not carrying any extra weight for her height as she is spot on..she had always been a strong solid baby but she used to have thunder thighs but it had slimmed down alot....now my Niece (brothers DD) who is 6 mths younger than Tweenie had got those thunder thighs and weighs a ton !! but is shorter and rounder (she is sssoooo cute!!) where Tweenie is tall and long

maisiemog · 27/09/2006 23:08

Biglips, it might just be our local health authority that has stopped the 2 year check. It must have been a recent decision, because the red book still has a section about the check and what is covered.
Poor Alfie has got spots on his bum and 'bits', his thighs, feet and hands. I phoned the HV about the spots, but she says its unrelated to the MMR and just to see whether it develops.
I don't like the sound of that reaction to the thingy cocchal jab. Is that normal or do you think it was the needle?

OMG, I just got back from the doctors and Alfie has chicken pox. He isn't hot or anything, but he's a bit out of sorts and was wailing away at me in the shopping precinct near us. I thought I would let him out of the pram because he normally likes to run around there and it's pedestrianised, but no!
He wouldn't come with me, and kept pointing at random shops as if we should go in. When I continued to walk slowly and call him, he planted his feet down and stuck out his belly and wailed, he went all red in the face. At one point he ran into an opticians and stood in the middle of the shop wailing until I went and got him. Everyone in the shop was just staring at him.
So I persuaded him to stand in the pushchair, facing me (he wouldn't sit down - NOOOO!) and when we got in he had a piece of toast demanded 'boop' and then fell asleep, so he's in bed now.
Poor thing.
I've already had chicken pox so I hope I'll be OK, DP isn't sure....
Oh and the doctor said he wasn't to go to any groups or nursery in case he passed it on to a pregnant mum or whatever, so he's going to be all aloni until next week.

Masie - hope Alfie is feeling better soon. Moley had CP when he was about 6mths - my 2nd week back at work.

Moley is a star at doing the rigid baby thing when I try & put him in the pushchair - I just cant bend him in the middle. He's talking loads. Bought him a train set for his birthday on Sunday.

biglips · 28/09/2006 22:31

aww poor alfie - sending lots of kissys to him - mwah mwah mwah mwah mwah xxxxx

Tweenie hadnt had hers yet.

i will be posting a couple of bday photies for all you to see xx

maisiemog · 28/09/2006 23:59

Thank you for the sympathies, Alfie said goo!
Kath - 6months. I don't remember that, how was he? Did he get a lot of spots?
So it's full steam ahead for the birthday celebrations. What are you all doing??
Are you making cakes?
I was thinking of making a duck cake, because that was Alf's first proper word 'du-KK!'
What kind of train set Kath, is it a big one?
I hope you have been hiding Tweenie's present Biglips so she gets a surprise.
Oh and Alfie says Mmmmmmwah! back.
He was much better tonight, but there's something wrong with his mouth - He is getting four canines at the same time and DP reckons there's another molar. Anyway, every time Alfie opens his mouth a gallon of drool falls out - I've never seen him do that before. He sounds as if he's gargling. Maybe he has a chicken pock in his mouth?

OP posts:
biglips · 29/09/2006 09:08

my darling babe had broken her front tooth as she went flying over and whacked her mouth on the baby walker - aww poor thing

she is dressing up as a fairy on her bday on sunday with a tooth missing!! (its only a tiny teeny weeny stump there now)

maisiemog · 29/09/2006 11:26

AAAAAAAH! Big hugs! Is she OK? Poor old Tweenie (Baba), she'll look cute with a missing tooth. She can be the not-tooth fairy.
Alfie is a lot better today after having quite a bad night. He just kept waking up and changing position.
Remember to post piccies Biglips.
Grr, I'm supposed to be starting a class today, but I can't put Alfie in the (free) creche with CPox.

OP posts:
biglips · 29/09/2006 11:56

here she is....

Gald that Alfie is alot better and yes unfortunately u will have to stay at home

oh yes ive hidden tweenies toy kitchen in the spare bedroom so hope she doesnt see it from now till her bday. ive setted it all up ready for her.

maisiemog · 29/09/2006 12:04

Aaaah! She's very cute, it looks fine. What a lovely smiley girl she is.
Alfie is sitting on my lap showing me that he has little blisters on his palms and fingies. He doesn't seem very impressed, but then he forgets 20 seconds later.
He's like 'Ow, OOooh, grr,.... bus! Likes buses. Obsessed!
So what's happening at the birthday party? What time will it be?
