Hi All, I thought I'd start a new 2006 thread for the October 2004 Mummies and Babies.

biglips · 22/08/2006 09:28

oh ive bought a padded toilet seat from Hoem Bargains for 2.99- i havent opened it yet

maisiemog · 24/08/2006 22:39

Alfie has been perfecting his kissing skills and can actually now do a proper kiss, so he does it whenever he gets an opportunity. Today he was kissing my leg when I was on the computer.
He is still pretty rubbish at talking, for a while there he was picking up new words and copying me, but he's lost interest again. His latest craze is jumping, he jumps all over the house instead of walking? We live in a flat, so probably not popular with the downstairs neighbours. Oh and he has started to line up things with wheels, like a train. Tonight he has his pram, two pushalongs, a lorry and a pull-along musical thingy all lined up down the hall and he pushes them along.
Is this the kind of thing the other babies are doing?
I look at those developmental charts sometimes, but he doesn't seem to do anything on them, just his own weird stuff.

Biglips I hope your DD hasn't been watching reruns of Father Ted, because it sounds like she has been listening to Father Jack - the one that sleeps in the chair and just wakes up to say 'feck!'.

Hi haven't been on here for a while, went on holiday then got new computer and had to remember my password!
My life is lived to the bob the builder theme tune at the moment, DS2 wakes up singing it and doesn't stop all day, its quite weird now that he has an opinion on what goes on the telly (and everything else for that matter). He likes to play cars and dego (lego)and would have me reading bed time stories till it was time to get up if I let him. He bangs on the fridge demanding grapes and on the cupboard shouting for beans. He still has a thing about grabing bigger kids round the waist and pulling to the floor which isn't to bad when its his brother or sister but less popular with other people.

maisiemog · 26/08/2006 01:04

Hi Geog I was wondering where you had got to. Hee hee! That's so funny about the bob the builder song. I don't think Alfie has seen the programme yet, but they have previews where Bob and the diggers are upside down and he gets really excited about that. He is still loving the Tellytubbies, does DS2 like them?
I know what you mean about the stories, Alfie keeps bringing me books to read or books with nursery rhymes in to sing. The current favourite is called 'Cave Baby and the Mammoth' has anyone heard of it. It has two sentences per page, so perfect for little no attention span people.

prettymum · 26/08/2006 01:46

hey mm, my dd is exactly the same, she knows few words, a lot of the times its 'oh no' when shes dropped something or 'where where' when she goes looking for things ie toothbrush which she leaves all over the flat!

she also goes banging on the fridge for grapes! and she knows where i keep all the sweeties and biscuits and stands below the cupboard with her arms stretched out towards it!!

she is also fascinated with jumpin, she jumps all over the place, i also have a ds who is 5 weeks and she knows how to climbo int his cot. i have caught her jumping around the poor child whilst his sleeping or when he's awake and he watches her amused!!

maisiemog · 27/08/2006 00:02

Hi Prettymum (I was wondering who took that name, I applied for it because of being so beauuuuoootiful , but they said it was gone, drat!)
I reckon some kiddies are too busy jumping to actually listen to any words, or say much.
Alfie told me poop today, but it sounds like boop, which means boob, so I ignored him, then there was this horrible smell, so I guess he really did mean poop. Now he just has to learn to say something before he poops.

CountTo10 · 27/08/2006 00:25

Hi hope you don't mind me jumping in but i've only been logged on for a couple of weeks. My ds is an october 2004 bub born on the 1st no less!! Just getting ready for bday no 2. We've started gently potty training. We bought books and potties as well as pull ups with buzz and woody as thats what he's into. He proudly marches round announcing he has his pants on!!! We've managed to get him into the routine of sitting on his potty every 20 mins and now and again he does something. At home we let him run around with nothing on and if he needs a wee/poo he'll tell us and we gently encourage him to sit on the potty which he will do but no necessarily to do anything. I think you have to listen to them as they'll tell you when they are ready and the experts agree that the later the better.

maisiemog · 27/08/2006 12:20

Hi there, it sounds as if you are doing all the right things. But watch out for the experts that say delay as long as possible, because quite a few are part of funded research by disposable nappy manufacturers.

OP posts:
prettymum · 27/08/2006 12:27

we tried to start potty training but i think we scared dd, we kept trying to get her to sit in the potty thinking she might want to pee, will have to try again and let her try by herself!!

she says poo when her db does poo in his nappy because he makes a lot of noise and she just learnt to say beebies so whenever the tv goes on shes comes running saying beebies beebies!!

maisiemog · 27/08/2006 14:54

Hi PM, I wouldn't worry if she doesn't get it right away, it's not a race. I found that if we put Alfie on the potty after a nap/meal/bath and then nappy the rest of the time, we had a few hits. But that wasn't even everyday to begin with.
I would never force him to sit on the potty, can you imagine the type of neuroses he would develop when he was older.

maisiemog · 28/08/2006 22:02

Does anyone ever watch Balamory here? Alfie likes it, so I often have to see bits of it. It's Suzie Sweet: the older wifey that works in the shop - she is sooo annoying. Everytime I watch the programme I feel like shaking her. I know she's supposed to be a halfwit, but she's so good at it!!
Oh and can't stand the Bobinogs either.
Like Tweenies though.
I went round to the local common with DP to watch him chuck his discus and Alfie insisted on running after it and carrying it back to me - they weigh 2KGs he was staggering about with them.

CountTo10 · 29/08/2006 14:17

My lo has a thing for Miss Hoolie - he hangs on her every word!!!! I don't mind it but its Edie Mcredie that gets on my pip!!!

geogteach · 29/08/2006 19:39

We went to Mull in May half term just so we could see 'Balamory'! DS2 is definately more of a Bob boy at the moment though. Is anyone else finding cleaning up after enthusiastic meal times exhausting. Today at lunch I had to change mine and DS2's clothes, put the booster seat in the dishwasher and wash the floor, at tea it was strip him at the table and put him in the bath. He also increasingly has an opinion on what he eats which is always issued as an order Grapes! Beans! Cheese! Cake! Fruit!

maisiemog · 29/08/2006 20:07

I haven't really given Alfie beans yet, and I can't see him getting them until he is about seven. Too messy. He can get in a right old state though, and he also loooves tseeeeees so that's always a bit hit. He kind of likes finger food and can't really be bothered with anything too wet, so it's not too bad on the mess front.
I bought some PVC type fabric from our local cloth shop in a sale, it has strawberries and stuff on it and was only 2.99 per metre. It's been great for when he peeps whilst eating minus nappy or puts stuff he doesn't fancy on the floor next to him.
I actually found some mould on the rug, where he had peeped and dropped juice so had to put bleach on the carpet. It's soo smelly. I hope it dries out ok.
Did you get your totsbots fixed incidentally.
What's up with Edie Mcreadie, is that Isla's Mommas incidentally?

KathH · 29/08/2006 22:19

Moley is definately a bob the builder boy - he shouts constantly bob digger! bob digger! He's also learnt to work the dvd player so its on constantly.

maisiemog · 29/08/2006 23:15

Alfie still loving tellytubbies. I like Tweenies, the stories are so sweet.

OP posts:
maisiemog · 29/08/2006 23:16

Oh and I sing that PCPlum 'I found your doggy' song all the time.
He has well-dodgy eyebrows though.

OP posts:
CountTo10 · 29/08/2006 23:19

We have lots of mess to clear up at meal times as ds has started to signal when he's finished by picking up his plate/bowl and upending it up on the floor!!!
MaisieMog - I don't know what it is about E.M. but she just irritates me!!!! Somehow I can handle all the others!!! If that was me you were asking re being Isla's mum, no little boy called Josh instead!!

maisiemog · 30/08/2006 10:23

Hi CountTT I thought perhaps Islas mamma had changed her name, because I vaguely remember her posting that her little girl could count to ten.
That's how logical I am.
I have a little boy called Alfie (Alfred) who was born three weeks early on Halloween woooooh! He has very little hair and eleven teeth, he's a little, skinny, but strangely strong boy who is into everything and speaks an incomprehensible version of English e.g. lorry = alyee??
Tell us about Josh??

OP posts:
prettymum · 30/08/2006 12:17

i cant stand pc plum, his dancing is awful and irritating( same for all the others!) and dd can now say cbeebies so its beebies all the time and after 7 its simpsons!

i bought her some crayons the other day, found drawings all overmy window sill, shoe stand , floor and today on her dads precious telly!! managed to clean it b4 he saw it!

CountTo10 · 30/08/2006 20:24

I had Josh on 1st oct 8 days late so only just made it into this thread!!! He's a rapidly growing boy with quite the personality. Blonde hair that keeps getting blonde to the point where people think I'm putting sunin in his hair!!!! He loves Balamory & Bob and car journeys where he regularly shouts out when he sees lorries, vans, diggers & tractors!!! He's chattering away although I think I'm the only person who understands him half the time!! He seems to be reaching the terrible twos early and can throw a tantrum in a second!!! He's gorgeous though (obviously I'm biased) and is so much fun to be around!!

KathH · 31/08/2006 21:08

countto10 moley was born on 1st (real name William) he was 3 weeks early & a bathroom floor jo. Biglip's dd was born on the 1st too.
