New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

OP posts:

ps, watching judge jd

Hazellnut · 03/02/2006 22:11

Tipex - a great post !

It was me that sparked the initial MMR conversation - we had originally decided on single jabs but as the time came close I decided to look into it. Not being a scientist by any stretch of the imagination I basically did this by reading a bit about the studies, and talking to lots and lots of people who have been through the decision. I knew that we would immunise in some form, that was never in doubt - I was hospitalised with measles at 18 months. We have now decided to have the MMR and I feel it is the right decision for us. Obviously, there are some doubts especially at times like today with a group of friends who are all doing single jabs (but, I did feel like I had at least done some more research than one of them when she said she was doing singel jabs because there were less jabs. hmm.). To me, which ever route we choose there will be worry but I guess that's parenthood.... Watched Judge John Deed tonight as well and DH and I did conclude it was somewhat irresponsible of the BBC to show this when people are still so uncertain about the vaccine. But I guess it got us all talking !!

Sorry to hear ds isn't eating (or sleeping) Tipex/ Goss. DD is erratic on sleep - seemed to be sorted for 6 nights, then another cold so unsettled again. At least we get some good nights though so can't complain. Happy shopping -are you after any special ??

DD a right old giggler here too. Isn't it cute ?!

W0MBAT · 03/02/2006 22:56

Hazellnut and Tipex - what informative posts! Thanks! The main confusing thing for me is the sheer amount of information about MMR. The NHS states that no vaccine has been studied in as much detail and as most studies have found that the pros outweigh the cons, my gut feeling says to go for it.

gossifer · 04/02/2006 16:38

ok ladies
some advice, opinions please
leon has been being sick again, but is fine, and there is no rhyme or reason to when, he's eating and drinking fine, but there is a little tooth coming through, so it might be that

had some unfounded idea that it might be to do with the formula, so for his afternoon feed gave him a bottle of full fat cows milk, first time ever and he downed it and seems fine

has anyone else moved onto fresh milk?

Hazellnut · 04/02/2006 17:29

poor leon Goss - we have moved onto normal milk but dd is 1. However, as Leon is presumably 1 in the next couple of weeks shouldn't think it would make much difference. In fact, I almost went onto it two weeks before her birthday as I finished a tub of formu;a. Also, if it is making him sick it would be better to change anyway ?! Mind you, have heard of babies being sick with teeth issues.

Am not sure that's much help but basically I would think it is fine especially if he eats well so is getting all the other things that are in formula from other sources.

sweetbean · 04/02/2006 17:42

Thanks for all your advise on MMR it is very much appresated (can't Spell)

Can i ask what are the side affects of giving cows milk and do's it have to be full fat ? as i would love to start dd on it as she is 1 on the 18th

Hazellnut · 04/02/2006 18:10

Don't think there are any side effects sweetbean as long as dd isn't allergic to dairy. I guess the main side effect is cheaper grocery bills !! I think they don't recommend it under 1 as formula/breastmilk has other things in it which the baby needs but it is assumed that once the child is 1 they will be eating more and so will get these nutrients from other sources. It does have to be full fat milk - not sure why as I believe the less fat the milk has the more calcium it has but I guess we shouldn't be worrying about our little ones dieting yet !!

Was meaning to add to the mmr thing that, one of the main things that struck me when I looked into it was the fact that almost every western country gives MMR so they can't all be wrong surely (esp. the more litigious societies than ours !!).

Angeliz · 04/02/2006 20:16

gossifer poor Leon Could just be his teeth i guess.
Amelia is drinking a little cow's milk with cereal and stuff and trying to drink dd1's milk this morning. DD1 was watching in horror say, "Mammy she's blowing bubbles in it!"

We chose seperate MMR for Alice and will do the same for Amelia but we also seperated the baby jabs. I've read loads, probably far too much on the subject and although i'm not anti-vaccine, i just thought ANYTHING that makes the risks less is worth it.I weighed up how worried and likely it was for dd to wait longer for the jabs and be exposed to the illnesses and we went for singles.
DD1 didn't have mumps till she was nearly 4 and we had her bllod tested to check for immunity at 3. Sadly she wasn't immune to ANY of the diseases she'd been vaccinated against. Had antibodies but not enough to be immune. It literally worries me sick all this.
Amelia is going for her first Men.C and HIb tomorrow as we seperated the baby jabs. She was supposed to have thenm at 7-8+9 months but with clinics cancelled and illnesses it's really late.
I beleive she'll only need 2 doses of each mnow and if we got them done next month when she's over 1 year, only 1 i think. I can't wait any longer though. I'm too worried.
Have been feeling really down taday. Don't know if it's hormones or what but teary and all. I've been depressed about the house as we moved 3 years ago and are STILL living with the decor
We intent to change evrything soon to make it ours.

Angeliz · 04/02/2006 20:18

Sorry, didn't have mumps vaccine till she was 4. Funnily enough though, she did have antibodies to mumps even though i never had it as a child! A cousin of mine had it really bad though so maybe i was exposed!

Angeliz · 04/02/2006 20:19

Also worried about the jabs tomorow. Every time i take a healthy baby to be injected with God know what i worry. Although that makes me sound anti, i'm not or i wouldn't get them done.

Oh someone slap me and tell me to cheer up.
Oh for a glass of wine.

starlover · 04/02/2006 20:29

hi everyone!

i hate all this MMR stuff... any jab stuff really! I keep thinking about how awful it would be if he had the mmr and then developed autism (i'd never know for sure if it was connected or not)... but then, it'd be just as devastating if we waited too long and he suffered complications or something from measles or mumps..
what a decision!

sorrry to hear about all the poorly/non-sleeping babies. roll on the nicer weather eh?

I haven't tried Linus with milk yet... keep meaning to buy some full fat stuff so that I can! I think the reason they advise it is because smaller kids do need plenty of calories etc etc that you don't get in semi or skimmed milk.

Linus is currently refusing to eat anything lumpy! argh! have reverted to pureeing. even banana gets spat out

Blondeinlondon · 04/02/2006 22:49

Hello all

No wedding outfit here. Friday I felt too tired and couldn't face the cold so didn't go shopping.
Will have to go next week

DS has been poorly - upset tum all tonight and today and a temperature too
Took him to see the emergency doc just to check and all okay

Blondeinlondon · 04/02/2006 22:49

I am losing it - too tired

Hazellnut · 04/02/2006 23:01

Sorry to hear that BiL - hope he's feeling better soon.

When you're feelign more with it - can you suggest anywhere near clapham junction I can meet my mum for lunch ? Obvioulsy child friendly and mother friendly (i.e she will say she onyl wants a salad until she sees the menu and then decide to have something far nicer ). The only places I know are places I would go for boozy nights out with friends after work.....

Blondeinlondon · 04/02/2006 23:07

oooh loads of good places on Northcote Road...

Crumpet next to JoJoMaman is nice. Good food, service can be patchy but it has lots of highchairs and good babychanging

Gourmet Burger Kitchen was good
Bueno Sera Pizza place - not been in ages but nice
Lots of tea shop type cafes
Everywhere is child friendly there!

Pub wise this place is a bit out of the way but very good food - I assume they do lunch and I've seen kids in there link

Hazellnut · 04/02/2006 23:13

ooh thanks - might head for crumpet actually, just realised was about to order some stuff from JJMB but can actually visit for a change !! Will remember the pub for another occasion though - will be good for meeting friends in.

Hope you have a good sleep tonight !

pjsmum · 05/02/2006 09:25

Hello all. Sorry to hear about the poorly and non sleeping babies. Glad its not just me then! DD is really struggling with sleeping. Still wont at nursery. I wouldnt mind so much if she then slept at night but no chance. I feel sorry for the children at school faced with a washed out teacher, who cant remember their names or what i am supposed to be teaching. Bless them they are good to me. Always get met with 'Is Polly ok, i wont be naughty today cos you are tired' Roll on half term, 2 weeks to go and its dd'd birthday

Blondeinlondon · 05/02/2006 09:40

Morning Pjsmum!

we had another completely exploded nappy this morning - yuck!
DS has managed to eat a little bit of banana and is now watching baby einstein dvd while I wait for the shower to warm up

DH still passed out in bed as usual

What are you doing today?

Hazellnut · 05/02/2006 11:26

morning gals... Sorry to hear dd still isn;t sleeping PJsmum but your school children sound lovely - there is some hope for the future after all ... BiL exploding nappy doesn't sound nice at all.

Well we had a terrible night - dd awake for 2 hours. I knew it wasn't cold (as we now have our heating on for a bit in the night - no thermostat - grr), I gave her milk which she downed so thought that would solve it but didn't so ended up giving her nurofen as I had noticed a tooth looming yesterday and that seemed to work. Today, DH is ensconced in the spare room working (although did let me have a lay in this morning), I have a sore throat and blocked left ear and need to tidy the house as we have an estate agent coming tomorrow morning to value it - can't believe we're actually starting the ball rolling. Just have to work out now how to tidy with a baby intent on wrecking the place (does anyone else have denby crockery ? I think they should market it as baby proof as dd has a habit of picking up breakfast plates and cups and throwing them on the wooden floors and they seem to bounce .

Hope you're all doing something more exciting this morning
